Skating on a beloved romantic comedy movie scene filmed there. Like the Bull and Finch in Boston, AKA Cheers. Both Meccas for fans, but rarely live up to expectations. As a Boston Jewish deli guy, this is not a deli at all. It's a sandwich shop, and a bad one. There is no way you can justify a $25.00 sandwich. And $3.00 for a can of cream soda??? There's a reckoning day coming for these lying, cheating individuals.
I'm a Londoner. I had the joy of spending 3 days in NYC on business once; I had one day off work to enjoy the City. The lady running our NYC office, an absolute darling, made me a one-day NYC sightseeing tour list, based on my interests. Among the museums and history, was lunch at Katz's. Best sandwich ever.
I was in Vegas and Katz had a place; it is since closed, and was next to a New York pizza joint. I ordered a pastrami and corned beef; not thinking it was a big sandwich, and ordered a large pizza next door and didn’t pay attention to the size or price. They both were ready at about the same time. Whoops! Well $75 later I had a 1 lb pastrami sandwich and and 24” pizza. 😂
Went today for the first time. Was definitely on the list of to do’s. Unfortunately not what I was expecting. Of course I had the classic pastrami. Believe it or not, there’s not much flavor, and the sandwich literally falls apart. They are better off selling bags of chips rather than french fries. The fries were obviously a day old and the worst I’ve ever had. By the way, you pay when you’re done eating and at the exit. It’s cash only, they probably have an atm and wack you for using it, just another way to make a buck off the customer. Once was fun, but they won’t get me again. Certainly not a 23.00 dollar sandwich.

had the rueben there about a month ago. Honestly it was worth every penny. I havent had pastrami of that quality ever from any other restaurant. You gotta understand, if you order any pastrami sandwich or rueban from any other restaurant what you are getting is dry, refrigerated meat that you can just pick up from your local supermarket. Their pastrami is the freshest pastrami that you can ever have. Very few places in America make their own pastrami from scratch and you can tell when you eat at Katz, all other pastrami sandwiches fall to the wayside.
I miss the days when rubins was $12 in my neighborhood but so many closed down over the pandemic. The sandwich hurts the wallet but a must in NYC. It’s pretty clear the bread just an after thought to the meaty goodness 🤤 🥪 🥩

don't think so. especially when Langers don't even make their own pastrami, they get it from RC Provisions. I've had Katz since I was a kid and I've lived in socal for the past 18yrs, and there's no LA deli whether it be Langers, Canters, Nate n Al's, Jerry's or Brent's that can touch a Katz pastrami. also that's like me a new yorker saying that NYC has better Mexican food. there's a reason why deli is better in NYC and why Mexican is better in Socal.
nysdgiants I’ve lived in both places (NY for a shorter amount of time) and the bread at Langers puts it over the top. I can buy Katz rye bread at any bakery. I don’t see how them not making the pastrami themselves would have anything to do with it it, but I guess it’s just preference.

The appropriate beverage is a Dr. Brown's cream soda or a Cel-Ray. And be nice to your waitress; chances are she can kick the shit out of you."

So are you in IB, PE, consulting or VC? Hahahahaaa
Funny thing is that people complaining about their sandwich prices while the sandwiches are the only items worth the money there. I've seen someone went there and ordered a hotdog, that hotdog cost him 10 BUCKS! 😨

Lived in NYC early 70s. KATZ was a must stop once a week.
had the rueben there about a month ago.
Anyone who hasn’t had Katz’s pastrami, has no idea what their missing. But also, I totally understand not wanting to pay the price. Personally, I go here now once in a blue moon, used to go here all the time, but screw the price hikes!
I went there two weeks ago, for the first time. The cutter was really helpful, let us taste a piece of pastrami and brisket to compare. The food was good. It is a good place to visit if you don't mind the high price

Katz is so good but tbh, Langers in LA is better. (Better pastrami, better rye bread)
Tyler Tilla No
don't think so. especially when Langers don't even make their own pastrami, they get it from RC Provisions.
I don’t see how them not making the pastrami themselves would have anything to do with it it, but I guess it’s just preference.

it's called double baked rye at Langers.
no new yorker orders a pastrami on rye at Katz they order a pastrami on club bread.

The appropriate beverage is a Dr. Brown's cream soda or a Cel-Ray. And be nice to your waitress; chances are she can kick the shit out of you."

Lance Gearin they’re good, but each sandwich has 16oz of meat on it. They’re about 1.5 pounds.. not 5lb (they’d be losing money if it was over 2lb) that’s more per pound than Kobe beef ribeye caps...
