Good stuff! Most classic sandwich is the pastrami on rye with mustard only. No cheese, but I understand. But with meat alone, it's still like eating a butter sandwich. Thanks Danny.
It was packed when I went, I started in line outside but it didn’t take that long. I personally didn’t think it was nearly worth the hype but I still recommend trying it for yourself because it was good so at worst you’re like me and think it’s overrated but you still get a good meal or you think it’s the greatest sandwich ever.
Contrary to popular belief, NYCers are friendly and happy to help someone in need. The thing is that everyone is going somewhere and they're just trying to get there without being disturbed or disrupted, and both are easy in the city. There's people engaging in all sorts of ridiculous performance art on the trains all day - nobody cares or bats an eyelash as long as they aren't being disruptive.
Mate, this is only the second video I have seen of yours, and boom, I had to subscribe. Love your work, keep it up, fella. Absolute UK dynamite! Love it.
I went to Katz Deli in 2018 and MY GOD I’ve never been so blown away by what is essentially … a sandwich. I saw it on Man V Food years ago and always wanted to go, it really is something special 👍🏻 Hope you’re enjoying NYC 😊
Same here. There were 5 of us picking where we wanted to go. I chose Katz because I’d seen it on Man vs Food. Ate half the sandwich whilst we were there and had the rest bagged up to eat later in the day. It was beautiful
All these places like Junior's and Katz's delicatessen, and the pizza place, are all nothing like they used to be. I'm 65 years old and grew up in New York, these places had fantastic tasting food with quite a list of competition among them which you don't have today. The food is just okay, and the prices are ridiculous! With that said, it is what it is, so enjoy!
I loved watching your Videos during the lockdown living in NYC. It helped with the anxiety to see your good nature. I would have loved to see your eating a fantastic Katz sandwich. It is a pain to get one but it is worth it now and then. ❤️❤️
I have a lot of different Canadian lineages that emigrated to America over the past century. This feels like something we would do (distant family is from Carlisle, Manchester, etc...) in the Big Apple. We're quite well-fed too, lol. Keeping cheery despite a lot of passersby having pained and inhospitable expressions on their face. I love it, 10/10!
I went in 2019 - Had the Rueben sandwich with pickles and a Dr Browns! it was incredible and worth remortgaging the house for! Glad you enjoyed it Danny!
As someone who lives in the suburbs around NYC, I have a few thoughts… 1. Even though NYC has some iconic Christmas/wintertime imagery, my most dominant memories are of how unbearably hot it can get. 2. I am surprised so many people on the street commented on how he was sitting at a fold-up table on the sidewalk. Traditionally New Yorkers will walk by any scene without looking or saying anything. 3. I’ve never been to Katz. I usually try to avoid touristy places, but it looked pretty awesome. The prices in the video seemed high at first, but considering the tasting samples, pickles as a side, and additional bread to make more sandwiches out of. That’s a good price for NYC.
Katz's Deli is a New York institution. I've been there many times. Yes it's expensive expensive, but for a once in a while treat it's so worth it. Tthe "cucumbers are actually called "half sour pickles". The others are "sour pickles". Also you should order a knish. It's either round or square. Personally I'm a round fan. I see you gott extra bread. Take home whatever you didn't eat with the extra bread. Make smaller sandwiches for the the next day . Yummy!!!
I visit newyork few years back. Katz is a must. My fiance and I had one between us because sandwhich is huge there is about a pound of meat in each one. They cook pastrami for days. They get through tons of it a week. Another must is Sylvias soul food. And Brennan and Carr roast beef roll you can have dipped in gravey. ( we did a man v food tour).
Pastrami and their Brisket are essentials, especially with their mustard and pickles. Also the hot dogs are brilliant. Eaten there around 8 times, and had them ship me whole pastrami for holidays.
Hi Danny - great to see you at Katzs! Great you managed to get the table up outside - it’s manic there! I LOVE their sandwiches they are just delicious - and I love the root beer!! if you’re still in NYC and it’s not too late please try Clinton’s bakery just a few doors down from where you were at katz! The most amazing pancakes with candied bacon and butterscotch sauce and amazing chicken and waffles I had in the whole of the city!! 🤞🤞🤞 really hope you get there, even if you’re not able to make a video of it! You may have to wait for a while but it’s worth it🤤
bruhhhh this guy has pure confidence my anxiety would be kicking in right now! I could never eat my food with people surrounding me or even looking at me.
First time seeing your review, I subscribed. Awesome, positive attitude, no care in the world other than having a good time on the sidewalk with your delicious deli meat treats
I lived quite close to Katz for many, many years. It is amazingly delicious and an experience I try to get many guests to experience. The crowded experience is not for everyone, but for the adventurous types who want to have a great pastrami or corned beef sandwich, it's incredibly memorable, not just for the food, which is great, but also for the historic photos on the walls. I appreciated the way you gave a real sense of the crowded masses yearning to eat Pastrami. Great review and glad you liked it! Serious star power getting them to bring you your tray outside. Enjoy NYC!
Really interesting to see a Brit's take on a New York institution. Always interesting to see the little details that people (like me) who grew up in NYC took for granted
I tried this place for the first time a few weeks. It's okay, nothing mind blowing. Definitely not worth $25 a sandwich. Been living in NYC since '93. It's one of those places that you go just to say you've tried it.
Great show. I remember walking in there only to walk straight back out again it was packed. I went straight into the pizza place next door, half an hour later I had the worse diarrhoea. Next time I will definitely wait
Looks decent. Very high prices but then again it is a touristy spot. I like the way they gave extra bread because you could nearly pull some meat from the big sandwiches and make more little ones with the extra bread.
Really loving your channel, I recently discovered it and your videos have/are helping me get through a rough time. Thank you! Those sandwiches look absolutely amazing, holy hell. I want to get on a plane and go to NYC just for Katz, I would happily pay 20-30 dollars for one of these badboys. Glad you enjoyed them!
1) That’s called a half-sour pickle. 2) That’s not burnt on the pastrami. It’s the peppercorns, juniper berries and other seasonings that coat the brisket while smoking. 3) Do you see how they gave you 4 extra pieces of bread? That’s so you can make two sandwiches out of each one you bought. 4) I grew up on this place in the 60s and 70s when it was cheap to eat there.
I grew up on the LES (Lower East Side) in the late 1950's-70's and Katz' was my neighborhood deli. Best in NYC. I now live in the Phoenix area and I miss Katz's SO much. Whenever friends and family came to NYC a trip to Katz' was MANDATORY. They still talk about it today. This video reminds me that they can send their food overnight, and so perhaps at Thanksgiving or Christmas I'll relive the past. I'm glad they still sell Dr Brown's soda (black cherry was my favorite) to go along with my stacked high pastrami on rye with mustard, really great fries and a Gabila's knish to go. AWESOME Memories. I don't know if the old tradition of tipping your server got you a little more meat or is not allowed anymore. Give it a try.
So happy you like my favorite place in the world. Have been going with my dad since I was a kid. Hope you gave those half-sour pickles a try, they are a delicacy!
I've been there a long time ago but hasn't changed much. The food looks great! I just noticed you drove right past my home! BTW it's the Lower East Side where Katz's is.
The worker who brought the food outside for him looked back in expectation of a tip. I hope that he or cameraman tipped him when they went inside for a 'doggy bag' to put the rest of the sandwich in to take home and to return the tray.
Delightful, as always. Someone must have told the management how many viewers he has in the UK, because I've been to Katz's many times, and if I regular customer has asked for their meal to be taken out onto the sidewalk, they would have laughed in his face and/or thrown him out.
"Someone must have told the management..." For sure, for sure ! A lot of these famous deli's have a reputation for being abrupt with the customers. I've been to a well-known cheese steak place in Philadelphia where if you don't know the short-form sandwich lingo they use, they have very little patience with you. Same in Montreal. I doubt if a busy famous place in the Big Apple is much sweeter with the customers.

everyone who orders a sandwich gets a little taster plate like that, it wasnt just danny getting the content creator privilege lol
@@docdoc8556 There was enough meat on that plate for a regular sized sandwich!
@@bazellis yeah, that's america for you dude, the portion sizes are humungous lol

you're the man. Your confidence to pull up your table anywhere, is awesome 😂
Thanks Danny. You are always so upbeat and positive. You really cheer me up. Bless
You. Never fail to make me laugh ! Keep up the good work. 👍🏼👍🏼
Popping off that chair and table was the highlight lol...well done, sir!
Good stuff! Most classic sandwich is the pastrami on rye with mustard only. No cheese, but I understand. But with meat alone, it's still like eating a butter sandwich. Thanks Danny.
“Wait a minute am still in car ere” as it drives off made me laugh more than it should 😂
This is my new favorite channel. Love his demeanor and spirit.
I’ve never seen such a busy food shop!! Proves how good it is by seeing the amount of people there. Expensive but very filling!!
Its the taste !!!!!
When I went the line was going down the block.
Danny bringing Yorkshire friendliness to the streets of New York, they don't appear to know what friendly is though🤣
Like any other major cities in the world.
Miserable gits
That reminds me of the video called 'Northerner terrifies Londoners by saying "Hello"'. I don't know what show it is from. Pretty funny.
@@EinkOLED my daughter was in Hanoi for a visit. Pretty big city. She said everyone was incredibly friendly. Not everywhere is the same fortunately
Great video, I don’t really leave reviews, but this one pulled on my heart strings
Danny, you in NYC at Katz’s is essentially my lockdown dream come true. 10/10
“Mate. Mate!! I’m still in the car here” needs to be on a T-Shirt! 💯
Mate, this is only the second video I have seen of yours, and boom, I had to subscribe. Love your work, keep it up, fella. Absolute UK dynamite! Love it.
Katz Deli is the one! Absolutely loved it when I visited NYC! The pastrami is mind blowing
Next time, try Mile End Deli in Brooklyn. Best Montreal Smoked Meat in NYC, by far.
I'm Swiss and we pay a lot for everything over here but 25 bucks for a sandwich? - no way!
@Jasmine Beckett Good observation.
As a Brit living here and watching your videos....you got SO lucky with the weather. This wasn't hot...this has been beautiful for a week now!
As someone who lives in the suburbs around NYC, I have a few thoughts…
Katz' is not "touristy". It is a legitimate NYC deli/restaurant.
@@petermoto409 Katz is definitely touristy and they capitalize on it. There are plenty other amazing jewish deli's in the city
@@usaf2011 Of course there are. I never said they were the only Jewish deli in the city
@@petermoto409 Katz is a tourist attraction at this point lol
Concrete Jungle...
Beautiful! Glad to see you here! Now I am starving!
Yummy!!!
I prefer the square knishs 👍
I feel like it’s a “NY Institution” for tourists more than it is for NYers
He ordered cheese though 😬
I visit newyork few years back. Katz is a must. My fiance and I had one between us because sandwhich is huge there is about a pound of meat in each one. They cook pastrami for days. They get through tons of it a week. Another must is Sylvias soul food. And Brennan and Carr roast beef roll you can have dipped in gravey. ( we did a man v food tour).
Great choices.
You may have to wait for a while but it’s worth it🤤
You forgot to mention John’s On Bleecker
@@ianloeb1672 totally 🤘😊
bruhhhh this guy has pure confidence my anxiety would be kicking in right now! I could never eat my food with people surrounding me or even looking at me.
Been to NY so many times, I love pastrami, I want to check this place out! Thanks for the vid!
First time seeing your review, I subscribed. Awesome, positive attitude, no care in the world other than having a good time on the sidewalk with your delicious deli meat treats
Absolute legend taking the table and chair to NYC
Their soup is delicious too. The corn beef on rye, amazing
So pleased your having good time, also great to see your finally feeding camera man lol. That sandwich looks like a triple heart bypass 😄
Yes one must feed the cameraman or no camera man.
'so pleased you're'* and 'great to see you're'*. Both times it was a contraction of 'you are' so it's 'you're'.
@@ryanmitcham5522 no, he meant it was his finally feeding camera man 😂
I am absolutely loving this series! I can’t wait to see where you go next!
The hospital.
The look on his face at them prices!! Can take the man out of Yorkshire, but you can't take the Yorkshire out the man
Such a joy to experience his joy…my reminder to be joyful
Danny you need to go to New Orleans, so many amazing places there and unique food
Agreed
If my mum wasn’t Irish I might not understand much lol. Danny boy, you are awesome. Much respect.
I believe his English
Great show. I remember walking in there only to walk straight back out again it was packed. I went straight into the pizza place next door, half an hour later I had the worse diarrhoea. Next time I will definitely wait
$25 per sandwich!! Steep? It’s f’ing vertical!!
‘MURICA baby!!!! 💪🏻😎 🇺🇸
Plus tax and tip. Prolly.30? Easily

Looking like a bunch of homeless chaps bruv, what are you wearing
You described Rootbeer to perfection :D , realy enjoying these thankyou x
Looks decent. Very high prices but then again it is a touristy spot. I like the way they gave extra bread because you could nearly pull some meat from the big sandwiches and make more little ones with the extra bread.
Man the subs are coming in thick and strong! 👍 💪
I died laughing when the cab started driving off with him 🤣🤣
You are SO BRAVE to set up a table on the sidewalks of NYC! Taking your life in your hands, mate! 😝🤣👍 good onya! ❤️
Not really. He wasn't in the hood but what do you know.
You've obviously never been to Leeds on a match day!
Really interesting to see this famous place in action. It is quite pricey, but the sandwiches are HUGE! Nice one Danny. 🗽👍
Not worth the money imo
I like a sandwich more than a cooked meal, but that really didn’t appeal to me. And why were the extra slices of bread on another plate?
@@mollybrown465 not a fan of them. Very overrated
sorry I cannot agree with just over 50 quid for 2 sandwiches
@@mollybrown465 There's over a pound of meat on each sandwich. The extra bread is to make more sandwiches.
So how does Katz's compare to Chompies?
'Fenella' was a right space cadet. Reminded me of Harry Enfield's customers in the "I Saw You Coming" shop.
All she needed was the purple hair...
😂😂
@Pete Sanders milkmen do it on your doorstep 😂
I thought she was vanella or Amanda.
Expensive but those sarnies are next level! Those line-ups speak for themselves! 😎
So happy you like my favorite place in the world. Have been going with my dad since I was a kid. Hope you gave those half-sour pickles a try, they are a delicacy!
I've been there a long time ago but hasn't changed much. The food looks great! I just noticed you drove right past my home! BTW it's the Lower East Side where Katz's is.
at $25 a pop ?
I love our Danny zero fucks given eating outside on his own what a proper Yorkshire Ledgend give this guy a KNIGHTHOOD 💯🔥😎👌🏽
Dude, I must have watched every review you have done since I found out about you last week. Loving your reviews!!👌
Not sure Danny know yet that tipping is expected in the USA 🇺🇸 lol 😝
The worker who brought the food outside for him looked back in expectation of a tip. I hope that he or cameraman tipped him when they went inside for a 'doggy bag' to put the rest of the sandwich in to take home and to return the tray.
In Yorkshire tipping means fly tipping your rubbish on wasteland 😂
No wonder the taxi driver tried to take his arm off!
@@robbiekop7 so true lol 😝 workers in the USA relay on tips to get by.
@@adzhx Which is disgraceful. Imagine taking money off customers for food/service then expecting them to pay their staff on top of that
Delightful, as always. Someone must have told the management how many viewers he has in the UK, because I've been to Katz's many times, and if I regular customer has asked for their meal to be taken out onto the sidewalk, they would have laughed in his face and/or thrown him out.
That’s complete BS!
@@PedroGonzalez11111 It was only BS yesterday, but complete BS today. I seem to be getting better by your utterly irrelevant "standards", Pedro.
I'm sure rhey would have.. So they were definently aware of who Danny is
This is obvious. It was the greeter guy who served him, not the cutter. I don't see the problem.
I have never been to New York. Those sandwiches left my mouth watering. Another great review
You're meant to have the pickles with a bite of the sandwich.
Goes really well with the meat and also mustard
Sounds amazing tbf
Why not put the pickles on the sandwich?
@@pekkalanger5076 I dont think they will fit.

What a legend! I envy his peace of mind. I would be paranoid and ashamed of putting a table on the sidewalk while people in the queue look at me.
