CORRECTION: The Steam Deck will allow Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to render at 1280x800 when the game is opened in handheld mode. It does still cap out at 1280x720 when docked and opened via the Steam frontend. If you open the game in desktop mode on the display you intend to play on it will display more resolution options (it even let me choose up to 4K). I made the mistake of testing the handheld resolution after testing docked resolution without first closing out the application and reopening it in handheld. And I didn't think to test opening the game docked in desktop mode. I sincerely apologize for the error. - Alex
I think you don’t need to go into desktop mode to play at a higher resolution docked, you need to change the game resolution in the properties section on steam. By default all steam games have their resolution locked to the steam decks max undocked resolution for performance reasons on more intensive games.
The steam Deck allow whatever resolution you want if you just go into properties and force a native or specific resolution for the game. I've been playing at 1080p 60fps the whole time, you can even go higher if you wish.
In gaming mode, you can select the resolution of the external monitor used in gameplay by going to the properties of the game (where you change the proton version and other stuff)
This isn't the only game to have this option on switch. Ion fury was released years ago and had a 60 fps unlock mode. This console is pathetic, my pc can run this thing maxed out at almost 300 fps yet the switch can't even muster a solid 60 with no anti aliasing and reduced draw distance.
“Unleash the beast” was such a confusing name, but I think the game ends up looking better. It feels more alive. It also runs flawlessly on Mac via Crossover at 1080p60, which is great.
@@ridgeleyds1281 I have an M1 Mac mini with 16GB RAM. The game crashed for me at any resolution higher than 1080. Wired Switch Pro controller works perfectly.

The Steam Deck can run the game at higher resolutions in game mode, you have to go the game's properties and set the (game) resolution to native. It'll target whatever resolution of the display the Steam Deck is displaying/connected to.
Every switch games needs an "Unleash the beast option". I have given up on lots of otherwise amazing games on the switch because it's just 30 fps. And I am talking about games that looks like it can run 60 on the gamecube.
Likely because it is more accurately “targeting” 60fps. Although as the video suggests when the Switch gets upgraded, this unlocked mode will actually run at 60, like how you can go back at play Sonic Unleashed at a more consistent frame rate on Series X
I'll usually let resolution/jaggy allergic people be persnickety, but for this game, who's style is rooted in pre HD era graphics and intentionally has blocky textures like those drawn for the faces, I AIN'T HAVIN' IT! It fits the package better for me. That level of anti-aliasing on PC breaks my time machine immersion.

Don't really see the appeal of a steady frame rate if it is always lower than the variable higher fps.
Because of frame pacing. If the frames are inconsistent, you will experience jittering that could result in missed inputs.
