I really like the use of bright colors in contrast with the actual dark content of the story. It's an effective way of establishing that something is terribly wrong, but they're pretending everything is fine.
I remember watching this when I was younger and being so mesmerized with the colors and animation, everything about this in general. then four years later this is the main reason why i want art and animation to be my career

( SPOILER WARNING FOR OMORI ) in short: sunny and mari got into an argument about the upcoming concert the two of them were doing together. sunny, overwhelmed by everything, pushed mari down the stairs out of pure anger. mari falls down the stairs, breaking her neck in the process. basil, who was lurking in the background made a mental photobook of the events. this photobook isn't real. sunny runs down the stairs, and brings her to her bed. she didnt look human. basil(i believe) tells sunny to then frame that it was a s-ic-d3. sunny and basil then bring mari to a nearby tree, to hang her on it. mari's body silently hung from the tree, as both sunny and basil slowly feel guilty. four years pass by, and sunny had yet to leave his house. you can choose between opening the door for kel, which unlocks the real world segment. or, you can choose not to open the door, which keeps the real world segment locked. this unlocks the hikkiomori route
