Had these on my gravel/All road bike (GRX but had to swap out the front mech' for a 105) with STONE's very clever 46/32 rings for almost 2 months and 3000km+ here in the UK where it's basically rained non stop, I've destroyed a chain and a set of Swisstop pads in that time but the PM hasn't skipped a beat, I haven't even had to charge them yet. The "live" left/right balance readings could do with some smoothing in firmware as they jump around a lot compared to the Power Tap pedals on the road bike but the average comes out about the same, accuracy wise they tally with my pedals and smart trainer, and I get the occasional "spike" when on the really rough stuff, but that's pretty normal with PM's on Gravel so I'm told.
I’m super excited to try this out. I do so many bike builds each year, and it gets expensive having to fit the $700 Quarq/SRAM version each time.

Handful of months use on one of these now. Stoked
How’s battery life??
@@PatrickLino it is really good. I think it's advertised at 200 and would say it's at least that much. Rode through a wet winter in Australia and no issues with that either
Good shit Pat!!!
Thanks Grant!!
Have been using this for a couple of months on my road bike (Ultegra 12 speed) and gravel bike (GRX 1x) both using their original Shimano rings. Great results with good consistent power readings. Seems to be consistent with my Wahoo Kickr Core. The only issue I have had has been the crank preload bolt coming loose. They did changed the design so that it has a rubber o ring to stop this but I still have had that issue. I have swapped that out for a standard Shimano one (road bike) and an aftermarket alloy one which appears to fix this issue.
Have ridden them in lots of wet and muddy conditions and no issues. Battery life is very good so far and reckon it will only need charged every 6 months or so.
On accuracy I believe a recent firmware upgrade has brought it to 1% the same as their slightly more expensive QED crank.
I was wondering what those rubber o-rings were for. There was a single ring installed on the preload bolt. Are the extra rings simply just spares? Thanks for chiming in!
Have had a P505 on my gravel bike since June and I've been very impressed with it in about 3000km of riding to this point. I get very similar results to the Sigeyi AXO (another spider based power meter) I have on my road bike. Not using their cranks or chainring (mine has a SRAM 3 bolt connection so I use it with a 24mm axle crank that uses the SRAM 3 bolt connection), but the power meter itself has been great in every way. I also have the same HR monitor as you, and I like it a lot too - good battery life, very reliable results, and much more comfortable to me than a chest strap.
Wicked! How has battery life been for you?
@LukeRichardson1981, Please provide some details on that 24mm axle crank that used SRAM 3 bolt connection
great content, I love your videos
Thanks for watching!
I have had these for the last couple of months. The quality is really high for the money. Power meter seems reliable and haven’t had to charge it yet. I’m using Rotor rings, so can’t comment on Magene chainrings.
Happy to hear! Looking forward to using this for the long run.
Nice! I just picked up on the 11.11 sale. Will go 1x on my gravel bike.
Nice! How much was it on sale?
$250 after coupons!!!! @@PatrickLino
@@davidgarza2267 Dang...good deal!
I’m using a 4iiii power meter on a shimano branded crankset and it’s absolutely perfect 👍🏾
Nice! How much was the power meter?
Best review
I replaced my recall-affected Dura-Ace/Stages crank with Magene PES 505. So far, performance has been excellent. The battery still shows 98% charge after 250 miles of use.
98% after 250 miles is fantastic. Basically half a season worth of riding. That's what I get currently with my Quarq/SRAM spider power meters. Thanks for chiming in!
Great value, but I'd like to see a power output file along side of a tried and true power meter like the Favera Assioma similar to the likes of what GC Lama does. I've found some of the lower price power meters have some really wonky data and numbers that won't translate to another bike. Hence you feel like superman on one bike, then the kyrptonite on the other. :)
Full review and data coming soon. If you're in a rush, GP Lama did a full break down comparing the data to several popular power meters. The results were great.
SOLD! 😁
Yessssir!
I have a left side stages power meter and have been thinking about splashing out for a drive side for a while. I’m guessing there would be issues running different brands on drive vs non drive but is it even possible?
This Magene power meter includes the crank arms for $300. Just swap your existing chainrings to this power meter 👍🏾
I’m a dumb dumb… for the longest time ever I didn’t actually understand the key benefit of a spider based pm is it measures the power from both cranks! $300 isn’t bad at all!
Can you also ride an Ultegra R8000 11-speed group with the Magene 12-speed chainring?
Yuppp
You installed small chainring backwards -> side with text (it says inward) should face bottom bracket. Also that side has small margin around hole for better fit of bolt.
Yeah I fixed it after the first ride
I haven’t checked mine after 1000km. No issues so far
@@PatrickLino Thank you for answer!
Any guess to which frame I will be building to pair this power meter with for testing? Drop a comment below!
Tavelo
@@martinbichler7089That’s a pretty good guess actually.
@@PatrickLino if so, then I am very curious about your verdict...
just ordered PM patrick, how you finding it so far?
Works as intended. Gonna probably order another one lol
DOES SPIDER compatible with cannondale or fsa ???? The shpae of connection looks similar
This is for Shimano 👍🏾
This Magine chainring is competible with Shimano 11speed r8000 ultegra chainring??
Yup
Magene QED is bomb proof .
Crazy hearing all the good reports on the power meter ha
@@PatrickLino the c406 is also top notch . The reality is .. the Chinese are the Experts in all things that are Velo.
i don't understand why there is a rubber o-ring on the preload bolt ... do any of y'all have an idea ?
I believe it’s a measure to prevent the bolt from unloosing itself
Did you get the Magene promo code for there wheels ?
Not yet. They are reworking their discount program 🤷🏾♂️
@@PatrickLino sounds good Patrick. Thanks for the update. I will get them with your promo code when available.
Does this also work on MTB?
Yes if the your MTB bottom bracket is compatible with Shimano 24
Anyone know if this is available in Europe/Norway?
Contact Magene
I got mine in the UK via Aliexpress from the official Magene store, took about 3 weeks to arrive and came via the Netherlands, the reviews are good and seem genuine, lots of picture reviews of installed cranksets which is always a good sign.
@@chris1275cc 3 weeks from AilX ain't bad at all!
@@PatrickLino They are doing this thing called "choice" now where with certain items they take over the shipping from the seller a bit like eBay Global, I guess the idea is they can fill a shipping container super fast with all the orders from different sellers, get it on a ship/plane quickly and get it to one central distribution hub were local couriers distribute, some stuff they guarantee 7 days but 12-15 is more common. Ordered quite a few bits through it, not just bike stuff (I'm a sucker for a cool looking "desk diver" mechanical watch LOL) and is been pretty fantastic to be fair.
you guys lucky - my powermeter broke - well housing unglued from the aluminium after only 5 rides - adn they offered warranty fix but shipping costs amount to 50% of price of a new one!
This was your Magene power meter??
@@PatrickLino yes the p505
@@arturpiasecki6654 I'll be sure to keep an eye on this. Thanks for sharing, and shame you had to experience that.
👀
Gotta test my 350w sprint
How is this compared to 4iiii ?
In terms of what specifically?
Data wise, connectivity, battery life and so on. @@PatrickLino
@@Cortes19882012 If you watched the video, you will see this was an unboxing and first look. Full review coming soon. ❤️
Yo-hoh-ho :)
(Breathes in deeply) “Yoooooo”
53t ring 🤌🤌
It's for my low cadence! 🤣
I've been running Sigeyi crank based spider power on my mtb and gravel rig this year, very similar looking to the Magene you have here. Zero complaints, accurate, and super easy charging that last "forever".
@@Bigkidbird4 Quarq setup is like $700 a pop. Happy we finally have great alternatives
Just installed the p505 power meter with pes cranks and qed rings.. what a piece of crap, chainrings you can bend with your bare hands, crankarms noticeably twist under load. Waste of money!
Thanks for watching!
