I was so inspired by this video and made a canister filter out of this. The output was good but the canister filter is unable to suck the water from the fish tank into the canister filter though I filled the canister with media and water. Can anybody advice to this issue. I used a Sobo WP-5200 motor. What if power outage happen? Is it going to start automatically or we need to do something for this?

@@HasnahKamilahThanks for your answer. I was wondering this because i had a hmade canister under my fish tank. In fact, because of gravity the water still flow to the canister after a power out, then because of not working pump to return water into the fish tank water create lot of pressure on the seal of the canister, causing big leaks. In fact the faucet would reverse out air and water becasue of the hight pressure inside, leaking water too. But the way you are doing it, i think using my canister the same level of the fish tank would solve the leaking mess. The faucet will allow air to in the canister allowing pump inside a positive succion returning the water inside canister back to the fish tank. I would apreciate your comments. Thanks in advance.
Kalau pompa tidak terendam tentu saja akan rusak karena jenis submersible. Tapi sudah hampir dua tahun DIY Canister yang saya bikin masih berjalan normal karena selalu terendam air. Btw, makasih sudah berbagi pengalaman.

Kalau pake toples harus yang keras dan kuat (jangan yang tipis dan lentur). Tutup toples harus mempunyai drat kuat. Intinya jangan sampai bocor. Kalau tutup terlepas kemungkinan toples lentur dan tutup tidak kuat terhadap tekanan pompa.
I have tried making several canister filters. If the filter is placed parallel or higher than water surface in the tank, there will be air trapped inside the filter. With a small tap, the air can come out so that the pump will work optimally.

Fillingis only needed once at the beginning of the installation, if there is a power gone, it doesn't need to be filled again. Placing motor pump at bottom is a good idea, I'll try to make construction but it must be easy when maintenance. Thank you for your advice.
What s the power of ur pump? I'm using pump with power 15watts and flow rate of 1000litres/hour for this setup. I'm seeing the outflow s not forceful, it s very less
Tentu saja pengaruh apalagi jika panjangnya pada posisi vertikal karena akan lebih berat. Jika spesifikasi pompa masih sesuai paling bedangan flow air sedikit berkurang. Sebagai catatan, saya sudah mencoba posisi filter di bawah tanki aquarium 35 cm dengan total panjang pipa 120cm (input) dan 80cm (output) sekarang sudah berjalan normal kurang lebih 6 bulan.

Ukuran ring verlop 3/4" drat luar 1/2" drat dalam. Ukuran pipa aquarium yang saya tahu sudah standar yaitu 16mm. Belinya bisa satuan per 2 meter atau per 1 meter tapi kalau di market place biasanya maksimal per 50 cm karena untuk mengurangi ukuran paking pengiriman agar ongkirnya murah.
Bahan yang digunakan yaitu: 1. Pipa PVC 4 Inch 2. Dop (tutup pipa) PVC 4 inch 3. CO (Clean Out) 4 Inch yaitu tutup yang ada dratnya 4. Sealtape 5. Lem superkuat Epoxy (dua campuran resin dan hardener) 6. Ring verlop 3/4 inch (drat luar) 1/2 inch (drat dalam) 7. Pipa aquarium transparan 8. Sambunga-sambungan pipa aquarium 9. Timah untuk menyambungkan kabel yang dipotong 10. Solasi listrik 11. Keran aerator kecil (yang di video warna kuning) 12. Fitting pipa plastik lurus 1/2 inch - 16 mm (Cari di toko hidroponik) 13. Fitting elbow plastik 1/2 inch - 16 mm (Cari di toko hidroponik) 14. Lem PVC (lem paralon) Media filter: 1. Sponge kasar 2. Bioball 3. Sponge medium 4. Sponge Halus

Yang penting sebelum dijalankan filter harus terisi air dan harus merendam power head. Saya pernah menyedot bagian output dengan mulut 2 detik saja cukup tetapi posisi filter agak bawah atau sejajar dengan aquarium dengan posisi input filter masuk dan terendam air di dalam aquarium. Selanjutnya air akan sendirinya masuk ke dalam filter. Tunggu saja sampai berhenti, setelah itu baru filter dijalankan.
Pengalaman saya, kalau berkurang pasti ada kebocoran khsusnya di bagian input. Karena kebocoran di bagian input tidak akan terlihat menetes air saat filter dijalankan.

This is only an experiment but I have tried it in a small aquarium because flow water is not as strong as a factory-made Canister filter.
Requesting to add the technical names of materials used in description, to ask a hardware shop guy.

Kok canister saya air nya berkurang trs ya gan..apa ada yg salah..
Pengalaman saya, kalau berkurang pasti ada kebocoran khsusnya di bagian input. Karena kebocoran di bagian input tidak akan terlihat menetes air saat filter dijalankan.
