    Instead of sand you could use salt. It would rinse out easily with water when you're done and would have a lower chance of scratching the plastic.

      Instead of salt he could use sugar 😂

    Slick job! I think it's very important to know the purpose of filters in aquarium ecosystems. As a kid, I thought they are only for sucking debris, when the main purpose of course is helping with balancing the nitrogen cycle

    • @dimitrijekrstic7567
      @dimitrijekrstic7567 2 месяца назад +1

      Ideally we'd word that a bit differently but the point still stands! The main purpose is biological filtration for sure

    I've been using diy canisters for last 8 years.turns our they're really really inexpensive to make with some basic diy skills and tools and still works just as good as the commercial ones😊

    • @dimitrijekrstic7567
      @dimitrijekrstic7567 2 месяца назад

      Of course they work just as good as commercial ones! Just make sure you get a pump that has the same flow rate, and head pressure (so it can stand below your tank and pump water to at least 1.5m) and only use 20-30PPI foam as biological media! It's the best both when it comes to biological filtration, and when it comes to price!

    I have a question. I’m building my first terrarium. It’s a 0.8717678 Gallon ( or 3.3 L ) glass. And I have everything from your Guides : plants, drainage layer, springtails… but for the substrate I only have Coco fiber, spagnum mossing and charcoal. Do I need the other 2 thinks you are putting in your Mix? And how tall schould be the drainage layer for such a big glass?

    • @Theepiccollier
      @Theepiccollier 2 месяца назад

      I'm not him but I would recommend worm castings as well for the substrate, as it provides nutrients for the plants. I'm not sure the exact height and width of the glass you're using, but if imagining if its a foot tall, I would use about 2 inches of drainage, 2-3 inches of substrate and the remaining area for all the plants. Hope this helps!
