Slick job! I think it's very important to know the purpose of filters in aquarium ecosystems. As a kid, I thought they are only for sucking debris, when the main purpose of course is helping with balancing the nitrogen cycle
I've been using diy canisters for last 8 years.turns our they're really really inexpensive to make with some basic diy skills and tools and still works just as good as the commercial ones😊
Of course they work just as good as commercial ones! Just make sure you get a pump that has the same flow rate, and head pressure (so it can stand below your tank and pump water to at least 1.5m) and only use 20-30PPI foam as biological media! It's the best both when it comes to biological filtration, and when it comes to price!
This is awesome! Really good idea for me to use in conjunction with DIY reptile water fountains for the picky drinkers. Upsizing for bigger reptiles that like a good soak to help keep things clean between cleanings.
Nice one mate! You can get plastic pipe bending kits from PC stores that came with handy templates and bendable silicone insert to stop it collapsing. You'll save yourself some time not having to clean-out the sand!
Amazing, I am actually in need of this very thing right now for my desk paludarium. Perfect timeing on your video. I'll take a set of those lily pipes as well.
This is excellent! I love the detail of your video and plan to try and make my own. I just bought my first canister filter and love how low profile it is in the aquarium.
wow, awesome design, i was was thinking as a mini diatom as i have many jar ecosphere aquarium which at times water does get cloudy.great job and great step by steps.
If you plan on making at least 5 go to the hardware store and buy the nuts they are cheap and I prefer nylon O rings bc you can’t over tighten and have it blow out like a rubber o ring
Hi. Thanks heaps for this video, I’m going to try this for my small 10 litre planted bowl. Do you have any suggestions to control the out flow into the bowl?
I think it's actually because the fine filter is just there to catch the debris, But the coarse one is to do the biological filtration (aka good bacteria) so the fine one will need to be replaced quite often so setting it at the top makes it easier
I love your videos but I have a question, do plants need to be put in the soil at their roots or just set on top of the soil? Or does it vary between plants? I cannot find an answer anywhere
I know this is for a mini aquarium but do you think this would work for a paludarium if I make it a bigger container and a stronger pump? ? I want to have the pump that feeds the water on the outside to create more space within the tank and make it easier to fix any issues with the pump.
I use flow control valve in the middle of the outflow pipe. find one that could fit with pipe size. flow control valve with 1/4'' size was the perfect size for me
Hi I have a question. I once made my first Terrarium and then all my moss was a beautiful light green but then soon after 2 days it became in ugly version of itself... Dark green. I don't know how it happened, can you please help me
I can't find a cup like that to save my life lol.. Anyone have an amazon link to something similar that I can't seem to find. How much larger can it be? 500ml to large? 250 to small? Thanks :)
I'd spend more than a buck on the canister. I'd get one of those small reactor canisters from Bulk Reef Supply. They use real Mur-lok fittings, not that chinesium crap. I'd also get some of their RO tubing and holders. Those crappy suction cups WILL let you down one day, and drain the whole thing, or go dry. Wow. So much wrong here. "Use what you've got" is a garbage mentality when it comes to anything water related, doubly so when pets are involved. Cheaping out, or not using good materials will fuck you eventually. You can buy real bulkhead fittings in that size for like $1.50, then you aren't relying on CS glue which isn't designed for this at all.
hey! this filter was awesome! but i wanna request something, can you PLEASE like.. please do a desk setup glass BOWL aquarium? with just lemon shrimps (neocardina shrimps to be exact) and with alot of carpeting-plants! will appreciate ALOT if you did this with this comment on top :D
Mini Lily Pipes (Global Shipping!🌎) terrariumdesigns.co.uk/products/lily-pipe-outlet
Are you ever gonna restock?
You should sell the whole kit!
Instead of sand you could use salt. It would rinse out easily with water when you're done and would have a lower chance of scratching the plastic.
Instead of salt he could use sugar 😂
Just tried the salt & it works great! Much easier to wash out with some warm water. Thanks for the idea😃
@@TerrariumDesigns Awesome. I can't take credit for that though. Saw Dean do it in an Aquarium Co-op video a few years ago.
@@Sandhills_nature_hobbies you're a good dude
No, just do sand changes every so often. Once every 6 months or year
Slick job! I think it's very important to know the purpose of filters in aquarium ecosystems. As a kid, I thought they are only for sucking debris, when the main purpose of course is helping with balancing the nitrogen cycle
That exactly what I thought when I was younger too!
Ideally we'd word that a bit differently but the point still stands! The main purpose is biological filtration for sure
I've been using diy canisters for last 8 years.turns our they're really really inexpensive to make with some basic diy skills and tools and still works just as good as the commercial ones😊
How did you make it? Show us

@@avijitsikdar5514 i made it pvc pipes. Search "Om Fery Canister Filter"
Mind blown 😮😅 simple, elegant DIY design. Ok, I need 3 😂
Great job with the lily pipes, the sand is a clever trick.

BRILLIANT! 🤩
Thanks mate!💚
You have inspired me to do my first nano scape and i just want to say thank you so much!
Yes you finally make the filter ❤❤❤❤❤
Nice one mate! You can get plastic pipe bending kits from PC stores that came with handy templates and bendable silicone insert to stop it collapsing. You'll save yourself some time not having to clean-out the sand!
Fantastic idea, well done! I love your attention to detail, it looks very professional.

Glad you enjoyed it! That’s the reason I love them too, especially in smaller scapes where an internal filter would block up too much space
Absolutely Brilliant!
Pop off man. This is a great video!
Thanks mate!
wow. freaking amazing
This is awesome. Thank you for sharing!
This is 💯 % amazing! You have a new sub mate 👍
I appreciate it!

This looks awesome 😮
Bought the pipes, excited to try making the filter!
Appreciate it! They’ll be posted out tomorrow:)
Fantastic job. I’m definitely going to make a few of these
This is absolutely awesome! Thank you very much :)
great job, dude 💕💕💕💕
Thank you!
Thanku for making this video I.
I was waiting for it

Thanks for sharing such a great idea
This is amazing!!!
Very nicely done and explanations.
Amazing work 😊
Very cool build!
Good Job. Bravo Zulu.
i made my first cannister filter and its so easy i was wonder if i did it wrong. nope! next time i might use a cannister bigger than the tank itself
Great video! Looking forward to try!
brilliant work!
Brilliant!
Thanks ❤
THX for the video! 🥰👍
great vid
Useful vedio
Quick question, could you fit a check valve onto the output pipe? Great video! 😄
wow everybody so grown up, not one comment on the 1:32, this is not the internet I grew up with
fortunately for us the whole world grew up, maybe the issue lies with you.
How is that pump once the filter gets a bit "clogged" does it need alot of cleaning? Will the flow drop
amazing
Muy educativo.
Nice job. Just i want to ask if pump still works ? ... sticker on it say : with water only ...dont need to be submered ?
❤❤❤
Can you use two 8mm instead of an 8mm and a 10mm?
Hi. Thanks heaps for this video, I’m going to try this for my small 10 litre planted bowl. Do you have any suggestions to control the out flow into the bowl?
Awesome
Would you not want the coarse filter sponge first? So the fine filter floss doesn't get gummed up as quick.
Very cool build. I think the filter media is in the wrong order though?
I think if you use the white less course one first it will clock faster
Wonderful video. Is there any reason that the fine filter is at the top closer to water intake (flow in) and then the coarse filter?
I think it's actually because the fine filter is just there to catch the debris, But the coarse one is to do the biological filtration (aka good bacteria) so the fine one will need to be replaced quite often so setting it at the top makes it easier
I love your videos but I have a question, do plants need to be put in the soil at their roots or just set on top of the soil? Or does it vary between plants? I cannot find an answer anywhere
Can I use salt fill to pipe?
I imagine salt more easily flushed with water
Yes
Omg I wish I could make this but I’m not capable. Do you by any chance sell your hand made stuff?
I know this is for a mini aquarium but do you think this would work for a paludarium if I make it a bigger container and a stronger pump? ? I want to have the pump that feeds the water on the outside to create more space within the tank and make it easier to fix any issues with the pump.
Do you think we can switch the in and out flow placements?
Why would you want the water to contact the fine filter media before the coarse sponge?
Do you have a link for the pump you're using?
Can I use it in 25-30 liter aquariums? Should I use a bigger one?
Hey, im new here and im really like your vid. For ecosystem, can i use a cocopeat? If i can, should make it wet?
Hi! 💚
bom dia
qual bomba(motor) vc usou no filtro
I would gladly purchase this filter if you could make them and ship to the US 😜
When will you restock?
Can I just use silicone pipe?
If i buy the e-book does it work in the Netherlands? 💚
It’s not translated, but yes you will be able to get it:)
@@TerrariumDesigns that is no problem, i will buy it! 💚
Where do u get the insects from for your ecosystems
Is there a way to regulate the outflow any ideas?

Give people more details. What kind of lightning did you provide, what was watering like, what else was going on in the tank?
I can't find a cup like that to save my life lol.. Anyone have an amazon link to something similar that I can't seem to find. How much larger can it be? 500ml to large? 250 to small? Thanks :)
Can. I use this for a Newt set up ?
the pump is not in water?
Waiting for huge paludarium🎉😊That paludarium for vampire crabs?????
I’m excited to release it! 🦀 + 🐠 + 🦐

is there a reason you don’t use charcoal in the canister? wouldn’t that promote healthy biome?
I'll save it to make nano tank for my mom later
Did you give tierra epica permission to use your video?
Any idea where I can get these supplies in the US
US link are in the description:)
Problem that super glue will not hold over time when it´s in water! It will not attach to many sort of plastic witch many containers are made of.
Always use plumbers tape on all of the threading
bagus sih om, hang on saja lah biar gak ribet kalo kecil mah
You have the flow backwards, inlet should be at the bottom, outlet at the top. Like eheim
Sangat berbahaya pompa sible di luar air,,, 😱😱😱😱
So sad you’re sold out of everything
Guess that’s really a good thing g tho ❤
Can i buy this from you😂

Everything but the canister copied from another video.. no credit deserved!
wasting your time. I did different think in my pond and posted here check out.
The way you talk is a bit annoying. I can't explain it. Monotone? Same pattern of tone over and over again? Idk. Great video, though.
