    I just bought this. It's fantastic. The color is really good out of the box. It's 4K not 5K but to me still looks really sharp and clear. I had to poke a hole in the desk but it was very easy to set up.
    I got it on sale for $599 direct from LG. Worth every single penny. Very Very good display.

      Can you choose larger text in the display preferences as available in the built in display of the mac?

    • @mbvx7
      @mbvx7 4 года назад +2

      @@mionome501 no. On my mac mini I had to go "scaled" and lower the resolution to 3008 x 1692 to make text larger. Windows doesn't have this issue because of the way they do scaling. of course you can still CMD + / - to scale text on a Per App basis. But as you likely know, that is limited to "sections" sometimes like in Mail app. (cmd + only enlarges text on the email, not the preview on the left side etc.) There is no "best for display" option like on an iMac.

    To match Retina display PPI you need 4k at 24". Anything bigger will a lower PPI.

    • @Gunshinzero
      @Gunshinzero 4 года назад +8

      The UltraFine made for Apple is a 5k monitor at 27". That's 217 ppi and has Retina affect at 16 inches.
      Even at 4k 32" you can have the same affect but have to sit 25" away from the screen. I don't think anyway really needs to sit closer than 25" from the screen when you have 32" across so I think the review's point is moot.
      For people who want an MacBook like experience the only valid complaint with the resolution is that it isn't 5k which allows for extra tool room on screen when working with 4k content. Obviously that wasn't what they were targeting with this monitor though.

    I feel like the DPI is kind of a dealbreaker. That was the main benefit to me of using the 21.5 or 27 ultrafines.

      Apart from the incredible ergonomic stand, the USB-C charging (and data connection to the USB 3.0 ports built into the monitor that the review didn't mention) is a lot of added value for some, especially if you have a lowly MacBook Air with only 2 USB-C ports. You can't get that with a DisplayPort adaptor. I'm thinking of changing to this from a 27UL850 which is a lovely screen but a bit too small for me nowadays, and the usual LG C-shape stand it has is awkward when it comes to desk space.

    I bought an LG Ultrafine 4K display last month to connect to my iMac. I think it's a great display but for the first couple of weeks I noticed some annoying light bleed around the edges. Oddly, after 3 weeks of use the light bleed is gone. I was disappointed to to see the light bleed considering the $700 price and because I plan to buy a second when I'm ready to retire my 5 year old 5K iMac. I found others also complaining about the problem. LG wasn't much help when I called them. Apple was more helpful since I bought it from Apple's online store. I have a long return time because I bought this display during Apple's holiday shopping time. Since the light bleed has gone away I feel confident about buying a second. These displays can be daisy chained which is a very nice feature. I plan to do that.

    How does it stack up against Retina? As a web/UI designer, sharp pixels are crucial for me. Currently, I'm using a new 16-inch MBP from work, mirroring it to my own iMac M1. However, I'm tired of constantly mirroring, especially since I can't use the iMac as an external display. While the mirroring isn't quite Retina anymore, it's still pretty good. I'm curious how this alternative compares and if it's worth buying on sale or if sticking to mirroring my iMac is a better choice. Appreciate your insights!

    This actually looks like an ideal display even for a novelist like myself, particularly thanks to that 90-degree pivot that will let me look at more of a long-form text document at a glance. Thanks for the review on this, and while $700-ish (plus tax) is gonna put a hurt on my budget, it looks like this piece of hardware is well worth it.

      Yes was debating which one to buy for my newly acquired MacMini M1 Costco on line had them for $ 659.00 less a $ 100 ! so I I purchased it , it is not as fine as my LG 27 MD5KL _B Ultrafine which is a 5k monitor , which has decent speakers as well as a 1080 P camera but for $ 600 bucks felt it was a GR8 buy love the ERGO arm even though I have a hutch on my desk but was able to fit it in ! would love to see the comparison between this and the 32UL 950-W their is a slight difference between the specs when you compare on LG website but not enough to justify twice the price !

    • @BrianFloresGoesTo11
      @BrianFloresGoesTo11 3 года назад +2

      It's not a direct replacement. The 32UL950-W is a higher spec monitor, with TB3, higher DCI-P3 rating, and is significantly brighter.

    Can any Mac users speak to external audio questions with regards to this monitor?
    I read a review that mentions since it is not designed for Mac, you cannot control the volume with your Mac's laptop. I even asked it from an amazon seller of the monitor and it confirmed.
    So am I nuts or the only way to adjust the volume on the monitor makes this insane for Mac users?
    Viedo editing enthusiast here, adjust volume like crazy up.
    Really want grab this monitor + external audio but just not sure I can wrap my head around the usability now for adjusting audio volume...?

    Can't turn off auto brightness!!! When I watch Netflix or any video media with subtitles, the screen dims when there is no subtitle on screen, and turns bright again when subtitles appear. I suspect it was the auto brightness setting, but there is no auto brightness setting. I tried turning off the SMART ENERGY SAVING setting, but the problem is still there. Then i turned off LG's DFC (Digital Fine Content) setting, still to no avail. There is no setting for it also on Mac's system preference display setting. I searched in the manual, explored forums after forums, still no answer. Any other people has this problem? Paired LG Ergo 32UN880-B with Macbook pro intel running on Catalina. Welp....

Anyone experiencing this issue may need to download and install the latest software from LG's website.

    Not for gaming? Have fun trying to play new games in 4k with 120fps like f.e. Cyberpunk 2077.
    4k 60Hz is perfect for gaming - especially if you want the cinematic experience. Stable 60fps is the perfect way to play story driven games.
    You can also use the monitor to play with your consoles. All the ultrawide monitors seem nice for playing pc shooter but are a bad choice for consoles.
    If you like to play all kind of games 4k 60hz is the way to go. Also 5ms is way more than enough.

      Dell u2720q is the king of this 4k arena and price range. I've had it for a year and it's been excellent in every way.
      My current GPU can't even keep up with it. So it's my GPU holding me back now, not the monitor.
      Warning: Older MacBook GPU's (like 2015 and older) are not capable of displaying to this monitor. I had to build a whole new PC because of this 😅.

  • @urazsoktay5275
    @urazsoktay5275 2 года назад +1

    You said you prefer higher pixel density at 32 inches right? And 4K resolution is not enough. But you simply can not play games at high settings at a 5K 32 inch display. You take that into consideration right? No graphics card can sustain 60 hz at ultra settings in games at 5K resolution. And 4K at 27 inches is amazing and also people say 27 inches is too small for 4K and they recommend at least 32 inch displays. So 4K at 32 inch display should still be really sharp.
    As i said before 5K retina displays are not for gaming. Not yet anyway.
    Great review by the way. :)
