Can't turn off auto brightness!!! When I watch Netflix or any video media with subtitles, the screen dims when there is no subtitle on screen, and turns bright again when subtitles appear. I suspect it was the auto brightness setting, but there is no auto brightness setting. I tried turning off the SMART ENERGY SAVING setting, but the problem is still there. Then i turned off LG's DFC (Digital Fine Content) setting, still to no avail. There is no setting for it also on Mac's system preference display setting. Not for gaming? Have fun trying to play new games in 4k with 120fps like f.e. Cyberpunk 2077. 4k 60Hz is perfect for gaming - especially if you want the cinematic experience. Stable 60fps is the perfect way to play story driven games. You can also use the monitor to play with your consoles. All the ultrawide monitors seem nice for playing pc shooter but are a bad choice for consoles. If you like to play all kind of games 4k 60hz is the way to go. Also 5ms is way more than enough.

You said you prefer higher pixel density at 32 inches right? And 4K resolution is not enough. But you simply can not play games at high settings at a 5K 32 inch display. You take that into consideration right? No graphics card can sustain 60 hz at ultra settings in games at 5K resolution. And 4K at 27 inches is amazing and also people say 27 inches is too small for 4K and they recommend at least 32 inch displays. So 4K at 32 inch display should still be really sharp. As i said before 5K retina displays are not for gaming. Not yet anyway. Great review by the way. :)

Can you tell us who made the panel? is it BOE?
nope. it is LG IPS panel
@@eclipseturbo9443 indeed it's an BOE made panel mv315qum-n20 , not LG.
Would this monitor be ideal for video editing?
I'm thinking of this as a second screen and a UltraGear as main - I know insane luxury ;)
with the apple M1 this will work well
what resolution did you have to use. I have another LG 32" 4k, but keeps going to full 4k which is to hard to see.
60 watts is plenty, I have never seen the battery drain on my MBPro 2016 when connected even during video editing
What is the difference between 27un880-b and this monitor?
@MacRumors Do you think 32ul950 is better than Ergo? And how much? I am doing a lots of work in photoshop and illustrator dont know if the price difference is
justified? Tnx
great video! would you reccomend this monitor for photo editing besides video editing in addition to the mcbook pro 2018? you think color accuracy is fine enough? -considering that I do not print and work fully professional yet?! wouldd love an answer!
I’m interested in the same question…
@@aannovi82 hi Andrea! I bought and haven't wasted a single second for regrets. Perfect Size. Crazy Colors all amazing go for it! 😀✌
thank you for the video.
is it good for lightroom and photoshop?
if this was a 6k monitor i would so insanely happy
10/10 spotify band choices 😎
Which is your keyboard
your USB-C cable looks like under aggressive tension - @2:54 😬
You keep saying it doesn’t have the Retina display look but you do know that the only “Retina” option other than the iMac is the LG 27” 5K, right? What else are you comparing to? There is nothing else. (Well, ok, there’s the Apple 6K but whatever)
Can we use these monitor usb to connect Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard?
yes.
This actually looks like an ideal display even for a novelist like myself, particularly thanks to that 90-degree pivot that will let me look at more of a long-form text document at a glance. Thanks for the review on this, and while $700-ish (plus tax) is gonna put a hurt on my budget, it looks like this piece of hardware is well worth it.
Addendum: It turns out there's also a smaller, more affordable 27" model.

@@JohnCastleSmokeless it isn't 4k
It looks like this one supercedes the 32UL950-W, which still goes for twice the price of this one. They're very similar otherwise.
Yes was debating which one to buy for my newly acquired MacMini M1 Costco on line had them for $ 659.00 less a $ 100 ! so I I purchased it , it is not as fine as my LG 27 MD5KL _B Ultrafine which is a 5k monitor , which has decent speakers as well as a 1080 P camera but for $ 600 bucks felt it was a GR8 buy love the ERGO arm even though I have a hutch on my desk but was able to fit it in ! would love to see the comparison between this and the 32UL 950-W their is a slight difference between the specs when you compare on LG website but not enough to justify twice the price !
It's not a direct replacement. The 32UL950-W is a higher spec monitor, with TB3, higher DCI-P3 rating, and is significantly brighter.
Hi mate, very nice review. I am about to buy the MacBook pro with the XDR display to do some HDR colour grading and I am wondering if this monitor will look similar when I hook them up. What do you think? (I obviously cannot afford the XDR monitor ;)
Can any Mac users speak to external audio questions with regards to this monitor?
I read a review that mentions since it is not designed for Mac, you cannot control the volume with your Mac's laptop. I even asked it from an amazon seller of the monitor and it confirmed.
So am I nuts or the only way to adjust the volume on the monitor makes this insane for Mac users?
Viedo editing enthusiast here, adjust volume like crazy up.
Really want grab this monitor + external audio but just not sure I can wrap my head around the usability now for adjusting audio volume...?
True you control the volume with a joy stick /button but no big deal it is easy
can this monitor be wall-mounted?
Can't turn off auto brightness!!! When I watch Netflix or any video media with subtitles, the screen dims when there is no subtitle on screen, and turns bright again when subtitles appear. I suspect it was the auto brightness setting, but there is no auto brightness setting. I tried turning off the SMART ENERGY SAVING setting, but the problem is still there. Then i turned off LG's DFC (Digital Fine Content) setting, still to no avail. There is no setting for it also on Mac's system preference display setting. I searched in the manual, explored forums after forums, still no answer. Any other people has this problem? Paired LG Ergo 32UN880-B with Macbook pro intel running on Catalina. Welp....
I know this comment was 9 months ago, but I just got this monitor in January 2023 and LG now provides the ability to turn off Auto Brightness in the settings: Settings > Quick Settings > Auto Brightness (toggle on or off). Anyone experiencing this issue may need to download and install the latest software from LG's website.
@@MrEmptyhanded Turned out it was a matter of Displayport cable. Thanks for letting me know though, I'm gonna upgrade the firmware for sure. Cheers
Does it have an kvm ?
Not for gaming? Have fun trying to play new games in 4k with 120fps like f.e. Cyberpunk 2077.
4k 60Hz is perfect for gaming - especially if you want the cinematic experience. Stable 60fps is the perfect way to play story driven games.
You can also use the monitor to play with your consoles. All the ultrawide monitors seem nice for playing pc shooter but are a bad choice for consoles.
If you like to play all kind of games 4k 60hz is the way to go. Also 5ms is way more than enough.
You can always play higher than 60 fps with some games. Having a low refresh rate doesnt seem to be much of a problem
I agree. I get an absolutely fantastic gaming experience from my 60hz Dell 4k monitor (u2720q).
Is there a smaller version?
Does this monitor auto rotate?
Hi, what is the keyboard model?
Thoughts on when apple or LG will offer a successor to the current UltraFine 21.5 and 27?
Personally, I don’t know and I feel like it might not happen.
Ultrafine 24 and 27
No speakers built in?
Does this work with m1 macbook pro?
This monitor is cheaper than the 1.5k screen, its only 700. Later, its worse than the old LG ultrafine released years ago for the Mac.... well thanks for the honest review
Hi, anyone know the height of the stand?
17 inches, Bottom of screen is 8 inches above the desk at the highest level.
IS this g-sync??? Need to know
does anyone manage to get the two usb3 port on the back working? It’s not working with my MacBook Air M1 (connected through usbc cable)
You have to get a plugable dock and using with display port and with a tb.
What gear do you guys use? The video looks crisp.
“It’s not 5k is 4K oh no I can’t stand the lower resolution so bad I totally notice the difference “
I know how it sounds right! That being said I totally understand what he means. I paired a 27" 4K monitor next to my iMac 27" 5K and after being spoiled with the 5K screen you can really tell the difference, it is not just the resolution but also colours for me. It is not a huge deal but it is there and you can easily spot it.
Make a review of samsum cj79 ultrawide with tb3
I heard every word you said in Dave Grohls's voice. Made a good video even better.
Yeah man! Go to the studio and record some stuff
lol why would someone subscribe before watching the actual review?
dude a retina display would cost a LOT more
Whats that desk pad called??
My guess is grovemade.com/product/wool-felt-desk-pad/?rfsn=3977485.1f6911
At my country the price is $660, is it worth it?
Edit: For 32" 4K how far distance for our eyes from the monitor?
If I want something of this quality for 4K gaming, what are my options?
4K gaming 😂 this probably has 60hz and freesync. At 4K even top of the line graphics cards will struggle to push above 60hz anyway.
@@David-oy6ck gaming is not only fortinite.
I play World of Warcraft TBC Classic on this on my Mac mini m1. No problem at all. I can not push beyond 60 fps anyway with this resolution.
Dell u2720q is the king of this 4k arena and price range. I've had it for a year and it's been excellent in every way.
My current GPU can't even keep up with it. So it's my GPU holding me back now, not the monitor.
Warning: Older MacBook GPU's (like 2015 and older) are not capable of displaying to this monitor. I had to build a whole new PC because of this 😅.
Nice video, but the popping whites and reds hurts my eyes.
It still had the waken up issue.
Does it have vesa
