This version of Swan Lake has earned a special place in my heart. Like all great fairy tales, the line between reality and metaphor is blurred, and the bond between the prince and swan is so powerful. A mix of love, longing, and self-fulfillment. Tchaikovsky's music is truly immortal, and the emotions are so strong throughout the piece.
OMG wish I hadn’t found out. He was incredible!! It’s like I was interested to know what Stan Kirsh (Highlander) was doing now only to find out he is no longer with us. Can’t look at the series in the same way any more. Still we can still enjoy Scott Amblers artistry on video
how could one imagine a pas des deux between two men beeing more sensual as the performance of Cooper and Ambler. But I also like the Winsor-North pairing of 2012.
I went to see this ballet today and absolutely enjoyed every moment of it Matthew bourne is a genius beautiful dancing magic music .cant wait to see another of Matthew bournes creations
Both Adam Cooper and Scott Ambler were involved in the creation of the ballet. Their chemistry is amazing compared to later productions, e.g. Richard Winsor, where the Swan is more "at arm's length" and lacks eroticism.
This original version, released on DVD in 2010, is sheer genius and a thing of extreme beauty. The second, released on Blu-ray in 2012, is not as good (NO Adam Cooper!). A few months ago a third version was released on Blu-ray and it's much, much inferior. Why not re-release the original on Blu-ray?
I agree! There is a special chemistry between the two dancers. Gay or straight, it has to be convincing, and the two live performances I've seen were, for lack of a better word, "limp". The Swan lead dancers were condescending; but who knows what life is like on a road tour?
Just watched it (yet again) OMG What could ever be more beautiful and sensual! Trouble is can’t enjoy pretty delicate girls in tutus any more. I’m a straight 77yr old female by the way. Not that that happens in the slightest
I love swan lake but this number no matter the iteration always, for the most part, seems off. While yes it is a story of longing desire yada yada insert normal tripe here. This particular number is usually portrayed in an uncomfortably predatory way less playful longing and more come here so I can devour you.
It gets more and more tender as it goes along - besides, the scene with the black swan/the stranger is twice as aggressive and gets worse as the scene goes on
I would believe that is the intention behind the dynamic of the swan and the prince, which has it dark predatory undertones throughout the ballet, especially the final death scene.
Nothing to do con gays. There's no love between two men, it's a young prince who has to grow up, just like when the dancer is a girl. Don't see the dancer, see the swan.
So lovely to see Scott Ambler the best Prince
It is devine! the talent of these dancers!! Cooper and Ambler beautiful Pas de Deux Swans.

@@agnetapeeters548 i am not sure but i have heard it was a car accident.
I have an ex that loved Pas De Deux...unfortunately she spelled it dough.
Can someone tell me what this story about?
Is this a same sex version of Swan Lake? What's the story ?
Yes it’s by producer Matthew Bourne...it’s fantastic and there’s lots about it to Google /research.
It's essentially the same story. about love that cannot be. Think Romeo and Juliet and give it a fantasy element.
On Wikipedia there’s a great synopsis!

gays
some problem?
Adam Cooper is married - to a woman. His wife is also a former Royal Ballet dancer.

Well, it's certainly not Jamie Bell who played Billy Elliot. He's a professional actor not a ballet dancer.
