Vibrato is super tricky and elusive to many! One of the main problems with trying to figure out how to get the 'ideal' singing vibrato is that there is a mentality that comes with that quest that suggests we need to MAKE it happen. Really, we need to learn to LET it happen (like so many other things in great singing). In this video, I lay the groundwork for you to discover the vibrato you were meant to have!
"We want to accept the ghost."
- Chris Liepe, 2019
This guy knows how to teach in the most efficient way. Much better than other vocal coaches here on RUclips, especially Ke...nvm.
😂You mean Ken Templin? I can understand you completely.
😂You mean Ken Templin? I can understand you completely.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ken is also a great teacher and has given me results and his students aswell.
@@huss2600 He is, but he doesn't easily give out information on his free videos which I don't think is very efficient. Again, it's my personal opinion.
Every other vocal coach: vibrato is an oscillation of the voice that is natural produced as a result of great breath support and healthy singing
Chris: OOoOwoooOoooWoowo OooOo OooOoOooOO
hehe
@@chrisliepe Chris you are a Godsend man! You should look into Dax Riggs!
A lot more helpful the way Chris does
Wait, this much information is for free? You're madman, chris!
The best vocal coach on youtube
Thanks for the video Chris!
For people who watch this video every day to develop vibrato,
3:14, 5:44, - The Ghost
7:44 - Chest vibrato
9:30 - Slide up with vibrato
thanks
❤
my mom just called the excorsist..
but great vid keep up the good work chris :)
😔🤣🤣🤣
Over time, I've watched a lot of different vocal lesson style youtube videos and usually leave feeling empty-handed. It's not like that at all with your videos, you're the only one I've seen that really gets it and I could tell almost immediately. I've learned so much already. Exceptional channel, please keep up the great work. Much love from Oklahoma
Thanks for finding the words. Chris just left me speechless
yesterday I accidently found my vibrato. I'm about to teach myself singing with grit and as I switched of my grit I ended up in my clean voice with a nice vibrato at the end. For me it's a sign that I'm on the right way developing my voice.
RIGHT! People usually find their vibrato by accident! By doing silly things like imitating a ghost :) GREAT JOB
This is mind blowing! I’ve been trying to get vibrato for years and nothing I tried worked. Turns out I was always able to do it, but just didn’t know how to access it. Thanks for this great lesson!!
This is so spot on! The key is knowing how things should feel and not feel. That way you learn to sing with your body rather than just your "brain" 👍👍👍👍
Unconventionality is most effective way to teach voice and you're a master voice educator because you've rubbed off on me and my neighbors look at me like I'm out of my mind but I don't care. I wear it as a badge of honor. 🎶🎶🎶🎤🎤🎤
Been waiting for this one, you explain things so well.
Oh my God you hero! I asked for this a couple videos back and this actually made my day. Thank you!
Love your channel man. Im really feeling my singing improve, way more than the voice lessons i made for 6+ months! Thank you!
Your vocal lessons are awsome! Thank you so much for the free information!
killer lesson man! really cleared things up for me thanks! :)
Sometimes I have it, sometimes I don't. Thanks for the insights as always chris❤
I follow him and i love he’s tone and range and love how he’s teaching . It makes sense and very much helps me learning.so thank u so much your the best
The best man. Breaks down every detail
Great explanations, very simple, tons of informative videos at great length and doesn’t annoy us with endless plugs for a book or some “Top secret” tips we have to purchase. I like that. Just a man that loves music and wants to help others improve.
I've been waiting for this one!
I've watched nearly every video you made and you are the best teacher on RUclips I found so far. But actually this video didn't help me a lot. Of couse you explained everythig very well and I understood it, but that one essential tip was missing. Now I know some fundamental stuff for vibrato but getting into it is very difficult for me.
But keep producing those great videos you helped me a lot developing my voice. Thanks
Thank you for this video. I asked for this and you did the video! Can't thank you enough...
I have some work to do on this... but HUGE HELP! Thanks, Man!
from all youtube teachers i like you the most :) keep it up man! nice job! I would also like to see a video about vowel production, if you would be kind enough to share your experience on the matter with us, of course :)
Accepting the ghost. Now I understand why vibrato has always sounded so spiritual to me lol. Great vid again. I appreciate how articulate you are in these lessons. Thanks for everything you do.
Great video, as always. It's mind-boggling how much information we get for free these days!
Vibrato is the first thing ever that i've learned. Don't remember how or why, but it always felt natural for me. My advice is this:
Don't force it, let it come naturally, for some it might take more time to develop.
DO NOT try to produce it by chopping up your voice (rapidly constraining the airflow, sounds awful and is extremely inefficient)
The tone produced with vibrato should be always constant, with even and the same volume.
It should be produced by changing the pitch just slightly (let's say one semi-tone higher or lower) and then switching between those two tones in a wavy manner. You can do it mroe slowly at first, and then kinda work with it and try to figure out what feels most comfortable.
Yeah man, thank you very much for doing this! Great tutorial, as always. You explain everything so clearly.
And as always, my dogs are equally impressed (and confused) by your tutorials lol..I'm waiting for them to join in.
every video contains golden information. thanks for sharing!!
I'm so glad I found this video in time to be practicing during the spooky season. ❤
Thanks man! I do not know how much I can do with this, but I am very grateful for your effort
Stick with it! Give yourself a lot of patience and grace! :)
Omg! Love this coach! I hit the golden nugget on RUclips ♥️
Thank you for this lesson 😍
Now this, I don't have any problem doing :). Thank You for the lesson Chris!
Chris, I want to find out if this is not the reason why i cant properly use vocal fray when singing... I have no problem singing in fabratto but vocal fray and grit is very difficult...
Thank you so much, your lesson is really indepth.
I have been studying singing for... 8 years? (Not really applied the whole time, mainly in the beggining) Using mainly youtube videos, and I can tell two things from your videos:
- Many things I have learned from joining the knowledge from mutiple sources, are really well explained as a whole in your channel.
- Since I realize that, I can also tell that the things I haven't learn are explained in a really complete way, that makes me without that NEED to seek many and many sources for each small thing.
tldr; Great job!
You're a brilliant teacher!
I have been singing for 40 years and coaching for 20. You cannot force from the throat and it's a natural outcome of good support...l agree with you on much of this. I find it to be THE hardest thing to teach. I was born with a natural vibrato, blessed l should say, so it's even harder for me to try to teach how. I am sending this to my students who are straight toning everything..
You are incredible ...
No offense to my singing teacher but your videos are so helpful! I’m learning a lot from them, thanks dude
You deserve so many more subscribers
spread the word!! :)
This might be the best vibrato tutorial i've seen
Loving all the videos, was looking up vibrato lessons to try take the flat sound out of my vocals as it make any performance sound a bit 💩💩without having some nice wobbly notes!
wow! I love the way you explain! singing is such an abstract art, cause it involves A LOT of sensations...and the way you MAKE the sensation happen so your students can really get it, is amazing. Excellent job! :D
I LOOKED THIS UP LAST NIGHT AND HERE YOU ARE. Being the God send.
Thank you, man.
Awesome! Thank you
Questa non l avevo mai sentita!!!!! Un consiglio efficace ma soprattutto divertente grazie!!!!!
You are the first angel we see when we get to heaven
I just shared your video in the VOICE GEEK GROUP :) this is way too good and needs to be out there :) definitely learned a lot about vibratos so thank you so much brother! like 2 from me :)
Thank you!
What group? Is it a discord group?
Great video. I always have some troubles with vibrato in a certain way, I’m gonna give it a try using this techniques…
👍 thank you! Ghost, it works! 🙏
One of the best videos on how to do vibrato I’ve seen on YT (and I’ve watched many). Thank you, Chris, this is so helpful. 🙏 Now off to work with and accept my 👻
Glad it was helpful! Keep at it!!!
Thank you so much😊
That's the best ghost impression I've ever heard!
Thanks. I've learnt a lot from you.
you are like a magician
You're welcome!
The sound you made at 4:50 got me laughing really hard😂🤣🤣
Hahahaha same here! I thought it was the best cartoon-character I ever heard. Hahaha!
This video works, I found how to move my vocal cord thank you
I developed this type of vibrato years ago and can't unlearn it. If I'm not wrong it should be called a "laryngeal" vibrato. Which isn't natural and I don't know how to get that. When you pay attention to the big voices' throats (like Mariah, Whitney, Aretha, etc.), they don't move their larynxes as we do. At this point, I'm somewhat convinced it's either you have it or you don't type of a phenomenon. There have been times I felt it happen naturally but it keeps reverting back to the artificial one. Sounds almost as good but it doesn't feel good to know that I could be better lol
yeah, that was helpful!
Thanks Chris
Very talent teacher .he know guide his childrens..
I love this exercise
Genius
Thank you
Guest i'm not the only one noticed that this exercise is way much effective then the other lessons out there......thank you sir. I'm developing my vibrato to much better now...god bless you. From Malaysia 🙏💕
Thanks!
Love your stuff, man. By the way, if you could upload a lesson of how to sing like Jay Buchanan - I'd really appreciate it!
I love this video 💛🧡❤
Great, Glad you enjoyed!
you're the best
Doing the ghost is not so easy as you'd think! Can't do it so fast.. Maybe with practise it'll be easier and faster even? All your videos are very good and well explained.
thanks a lot
I love the idea of "accepting the ghost 👻"
Is it just me who is not able to make that ghost sound only😭
Great lesson, I always like your approach by telling us what what to focus on and what it should feel like. I'm hoping this will help my endurance, did you find your vibrato got a little flatter the longer your singing sesh went on when you were first starting out?
Yes!
Now I can make a cool sounding ghost haha thanks 😊
F....Hell .. I finally got it !!!!! Thanks vey much indee for the fany faces Chis. After a long joney my vibrato is here in auto mode !!!!
11:36 is what unlocked it for me for some reason, the going to a higher note part
I have vibrato naturally (or i have mastered it as a kid idk ) cause of my clean voice, and now with chris's vocal courses i'm learning the opposite - rasp, fry ,i still sound like someone is scratching on a glass with rusty nails, but hey,i'm getting there haha
Would be amazing voice overs 😭😭
Hey Chris, I have a question
Almost every singer I'm sure has dreamed about making it big, but it seems like only the tiniest amount on earth can actually do it and work as a full time singer in a band.
We all appreciate your insight about the world of singing very much. Can you imagine doing a video about your thoughts on the matter?
Best Regards!
We’ve talked a lot about this very thing in my group coaching program! Had some great discussions! Would love to have you pop in for some sessions if you can. You can find more info at mymusicalvoice.com
@@chrisliepe thank you very much! That sounds inspiring
Woaw....awesome video. Just joined your channel and I have been blown away at your wealth of experience and demonstrations. One question though. Is this the kind of vibrato that is used by R&B singers when they do riffs and runs cos it sea like they just change their notes using their vibrato or it is more like their riffs and runs ride on their vibrato.
It sure is! I actually cover that exact angle in a course I did with jonny craig!
Please, I am in desperate need of an analysis of the man, myth, and legend that was Harry Neilson. Joy, 1941, Lifeline, One Is The Loneliest Number, etc... Any of his songs would be great. He was John Lennon's favorite singer for a reason. The dude had phenomenal tone, control, and range. Please, please be the first vocal teacher on youtube to analyze this great mans work.
P.S. Thank you for everything!
This is very helpful, really the best I ever seen
Great video and explanation!!!
Since there seem to be different ways to produce vibrato, do you know if the vibrato you show in this video is the same as the one Chris Cornell and Layne Staley used?
It is!
Chris have you ever checked out Lisa Hannigan’s ‘prayer for the dying’? Would kill to hear your opinion on what type of vibrato that is. It’s so beautiful and she might be my favourite female vocalist.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 jokes everywhere in this video.. I'm subbing..
Hey, Chris. Maybe you should make a video about vibrato aesthetics, considering how many different styles of vibrato there are and which should be used for which genre :)
Might do a whole course on vibrato... seems to be a hot topic!
@@chrisliepe looking forward to it!
Can we get a lesson on improving overall tone of voice?
I've got one! It's called "Your Built In Tone Control" :) Give that one a watch, and if it's not addressing what you're looking for let me know and I'll make another one!
You should have done that ghost sound a couple weeks ago. I could have used it.
hehe... I actually did!! (in my how to sing like Jeff Buckley video)
Hi Chris, great video.
Question, if we are trying to avoid using the diaphragm, how would one engage vibrato in higher chest notes? I've heard many great singers do it like Freddie and John Farnham. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Keep up the great work mate!
Thanks! Sounds like a follow up video to this one would be helpful! Gonna do one!
no wonder it felt so lacking when i use my diaphragm to do vibratos. btw my throat hurts from trying to shake it so much now ;-; but im still willing to learn!!
my vibrato is inconsistent. sometimes it'll be too much and go sharp, other times it will be too weak. is that just a "i need to practice more and it will strengthen and even out over time" issue or a "i'm doing something wrong" issue?
Now I need another tutorial on how to do the ghost, because I really can't. And if I force it my throat hurts 🙈
Request an invite to my course Discover Your Voice at chrisliepe.com I can help you further!
4:46 Absolute legend
Do a 'singing style' of Ed Kowalczyk form Live ;) that would be wicked man
Please , do a video How Sing like Michael kiske!!! Pleasee
Saludos
I watch RUclips videos and follow the tips given by coaches for practicing metal screams but I end up breaking my voice ...can you tell me excercises to strengthen my voice and also to make it sound powerful.,
I just sing in front of a fan. Done! XD
