Man, the pooping technique is genius. I´ve seen many teachers explaining how to engage the right muscles for singing but none is as clear as this. Thanks!
THIS MAN SAVED MY VOICE, I was really screwing up my voice in a hardcore band and his videos with a little practice on the technique literally saved me from injury. love ya man! thanks for the quality free content!
I know, right? I finally understand what they all mean by "breath support" on a theoretical and physical level which I can clearly see how it will help me improve and how I can actually put it in practice.
Great lesson! This is what vocal teachers are trying to construe when they say "sing from your diaphragm". Explaining how things are supposed to feel helps so much...awesome channel!
Yeah too bad most of them can't show or make you feel like he did. Ordering a student do nothing, because a beginner singer has no idea about anything.
Oh, I think I finally get it now. So when we sing a phrase, the support muscles kind of dip, flex, and relax constantly to push the air upwards. I used to just constantly push air upwards without using those muscles like this; basically, I just locked them in place without those dips and blew a continuous stream of air always. It sounds much better and feels more natural like this. Thanks a lot.
Again I must thank you Chris, for 2 years now I’ve been working on vocals (even though I hate my own voice ) I finally got the courage to really let it hang on jam day and all I’ve heard is complainants, “you’ve really come a long way” “ that’s the best youve ever sounded” and it’s all because I found you and employed your teachings. Thank you brotha, keep up the good work
Been learning to sing seriously for almost a year and I just figured this out today, and alas I can sing freely it’s incredible ! On the right path finally
Thank you for being the best vocal teacher on the internet! I'm not kidding. Most people don't get into detail like you..they say "sing from your stomach" and I'm like how?? Tell us!
My whole life I’ve done it wrong and all my muscle memory for vocals are merely bad habits so I must start from scratch… already I’m hearing a difference! Im not doing songs not doing words for the next good while, focusing only on developing proper diaphragmatic support. .. in about a month or two I’ll put up a before and after… That’s how confident I am with how much better it’s sounding. Thank you!
Man, watching your videos has helped me so much. I’ve always sung from up in my neck and always wonder why my voice came out so thin and would get worn out after a single recording session. I still haven’t mastered the correct techniques yet, but I’m super hyped about the journey to get there. You the best
I can’t express how thankful I am for this video. The sigh doesn’t explain the muscles properly and iv just been flexing my stomach, not my insides. Thank you thank you thank you
I definitely feel like we are family!! With the love you have for singing and the passion you have to give others all your wisdom is very much appreciated!! You just dont give a 1 min video. You are an inspiration to us all!! Thank You so much for your articulations Chris!!!
Best singing teacher by far. You get straight to the point and have no boundaries for vocal expression. I was watching Ken Tamplin for a minute and he was a good singer but he didn’t strike me as good as a teacher as you.
Uhh, I just blew the back out of my shorts, nailed it😎 On a more serious note, love this video! After first discovering it, I could hear major improvements. But after a little while, I noticed I would slowly start reverting back to my old habits, unintentionally of corse. So I’m always having to come back and re-sync.. this vid is crucial
Chris your explanations of support are simply fantastic, man. You’ve taken an abstract term (support) - and through exercises - turned it into recognizable bodily sensations; AND put them into the context of musical exploration. Top notch, my man. Thanks!
Unbelievable what difference this makes. This probably just saved my voice for the long haul. And all the while giving more power & control from top to bottom.
This is not what i thought i would be doing today, but if there was anyman to lock eyes with while confidently almost shitting on my studio floor, it's you. This tells me that i have left my ego at the door, so i could sing better!
dude your video saved my singing. I had so much tension in my throat when singing but this video completely changed how singing felt to me. thank you so much!!!
i’ve had singing lessons for just under 2 years now and feel like i’m not making much progress. i’m not very confident in myself to try and perform to anyone but i’ve always wanted to. i’m specifically interested in more rock/metal vocals and learning screams and growls. i’m specifically wanting to sound most like Oli Sykes of bring me the horizon. i have been watching loads of your videos recently and they have helped me gain so much information and also some confidence to try out different things. when i try practicing by myself, i sometimes feel like i hold back a lot because i’m a bit anxious of what i might sound like, or if I’m too loud for others to hear me. i’m going to continue watching more of your videos, thanks so much for these!
Just felt obligated to comment. After finding the right feeling to engage the lower abs, it feels like the air flows effortlessly and much more rich. The difference in singing a song I was already comfortable was unbelievable. Another songs are not that easy to make this transition, maybe because my brain is already used to the wrong way. Now the objective is to relearn how to talk and sing to always engage like this hahahaha. Chris Liepe, you are amazing!
Man, your vocal power and control is some of the most insane I’ve heard! Would you be able to do a video on exercises for compression/cord closure in the future? I struggle with this and feel like the muscles responsible are weak as hell for me.
The way i understood how it's supposed to feel when I have the best support is to sing a scale up and down while doing a sit up and try to maintain the same volume on the way up and down. Once you get the feeling, it's not difficult. It's so important to know what the diaphragm is and how it operates.
Dude - It's possible you've just changed my life by watching not even five minutes of your video. There's something about the way you imparted this info that just changed everything about the way I sing. I'm totally going to finish this vid and watch loads more of yours, but I've been busy preparing for a show I just had this past weekend. Usually after a 30 minute set, I'm fried and have burtn the top (and almost all) of my voice. Even though I came down with a cold on the day of my gig, I still got through the set and had barely hurt my voice at all. I was hitting higher notes I usually strain for after a couple of songs, right the way to the end of my set and was told by someone I trust that it's the best she's ever heard me sing. Usually, if I read what I've just written on a website, I'd completely dismiss it as a fake advert, but dude... THANK YOU. Can't wait to learn more.
I have gained a lot out of your unconventional methods of conveying how to sing healthy. I enjoy all your content, but this vid is one I keep coming back to. Thanks for doing what you do!
That was my problem for a very long time! I’ve always let not enough air flow through me and with high notes i was getting tried very fast. Plus it makes my singing more clear! This is what solves the problems! Huge difference in feeling after doing this exercises before singing! Thank you so much!!
I've sent this to every person I've talked to about extreme singing, and I feel really good knowing that they'll find the same abilities as I did. You're the greatest, Chris. Thank you so much ❤️
Im working with a vocal coach now but i just found you and feel sooo comfortable with your approach because being confused on singing correctly and strengthening my vocals has been a struggle
Such a great, confident, comforting presence and teaching style. Thank you for this, I’ve been experiencing upper body tension while singing for a while, and that yawning/sticking the tongue while bearing down exercise is a great one to really get the feel! Much love ❤️
Just found your channel and watching you all day. Signed and have watched the Free Voice training already. You are really opening a whole new world for me. I used to "sing" many years ago, of course completely the wrong way not heaving any access to good materials back then and now just trying again to learn it the right way. You are a great educator and really pro. Fantastic channel, fantastic videos and content. Thank you very much.
I got a hang of diaphragm breathing but there was much more to it. I got a coach and I started leaning into the sound and feeling it. Believe me I felt it when I did. I just figured out where it was coming from and man... I just started laughing my ass off. You have to maintain focus there, but you know what that spot actual is in esoteric terms? It's Kundalini energy. I did meditations focusing on that. The energy literally rises naturally. I wish you all the best Chris. The right spot is no where near the voice. In fact the total opposite.
Excellent video, for months now I have been trying to understand how to support without straining and engaging the right muscles, this video saved me, thank you so much

Thanks! After watching your vids for one night you've explained things sooo much better than I've learned in months from the self-proclaimed 'professionals'. Breaking things down into analogous but normal bodily feelings makes it so much easier for beginners like myself to understand things like support, fry, head voice and compression etc. Nice one!
I need two videos from you. 1- How to sing from my diaphragm? 2- How to keep my pitch. When I out of tune is a Semitone and if I'm higher is a lot higher.
For the first request, join my free course in the video info. It explains all about how to sing from your diaphragm :) for the second, lookup “why your pitch is bad” on my channel and you’ll find what you’re looking for
Well, you helped me to realize I can sing powerfully without tension O_o didn't connect the dots yet. thanks! 🙏 This helps with being able to do it at will though xd
Chris, I just found you several days ago. What a treasure it has been. In one of your videos, you advised against tilting your head up or down. But did you not tilt your head up in the beginning demo in this video? Was the mike placed too high? Please clarify for this newbie.
tilting your head to reach a pitch is a no no for sure. tilting to reach a mic, still probably not a great idea, but if it doesn't cause any tension... all good :)
I'm so thankfull this channel exists! My vocal coach recommended me to watch some of your videos and I'm really happy to see that they are working into my vocal abilities. Just one more time: thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!

Chris! great thank you! You clarify many important things in your video - found you a month ago - you tips are working! You explain very simple and your examples very nice - this video is about support...how many years I have been looking for a normal advice with examples, pretty and not. Continue this way!
what a great teacher. thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I can't tell you how much your videos are helping me correct my mistakes and fix bad technique.
This is the video ive been searching for for 10 fucking years! Ive seen so many videos and i can match the notes but idk where the hell to sing from. Thank yooooou
Man, I'm Sorry Chris. I love you man but 10:33 had me incapacitated for a good bit. The lesson helped me a good bit. You're amazing for sharing your knowledge and techniques!
How the hell is this guy not famous???? I mean teaching aside .... his voice is AMAZING! Better than anything on the radio today.
