Wow! I'm sure the pieces you are donating will be a wonderful surprise for someone to find. You have beautiful dishes.
Love your humorous wit and wisdom about knowing what donation items to not include on the video.
Hello Denise, it takes a lot of emotional energy to part with the things we have fond memories of. As I've gotten older though, I get less usage out of them and my children have no desire to have them. Those two factors made decluttering a lot easier for me. So, after passing much of it on to other relatives, a yard sale and donating, I only have what the two of us use daily.
I made a few rules years ago. If it needs glue, trash it. I refuse to be attached to broken things any longer. If I don't use it, get rid of it. It's amazing how much we accumulate through the years. Oh, Mary from Mary's Nest sent me! New subscriber. The tiered dishes will work on a vanity or dresser for makeup or jewelry.
I'm so happy you kept that little turtle! If you'd donated it I was gonna have to drive over and find it in the thrift shop. Looks so cute displayed where you can enjoy it.
🤣
Thank you, Denise…you are inspiring! I have kitchen clutter, too and I love when you said you didn’t need the tureen to remember your auntie. So very true! I am the one who has memories attached to so many of my dining & kitchen items! I don’t need them to remind myself of those friends & family…we had wonderful times together that I can pull up to remind me of them. Thanks! You are a treasure…
I liked this because you tackled one space. Too many do a whole kitchen at one time (way too overwhelming). Thank you.
I just can’t declutter anything else. I went through my things years ago and I still have a lot. When I pass away I hope my children don’t hate me 🤣😂. My home is very orderly but I am not a minimalist and most likely never will be. I love to organize and keep my home clean. Everything looks great on your shelf. Wonderful job ~ Janet 😘
I just found your channel and am binging. I LOVE your videos and your personality. I have really enjoyed watching them. Thank you for all you talk about in them. I look forward to more videos. :)
I so enjoy your videos, it's like stopping by a friend's house!
Decluttering is ongoing for me. I've recently realized that some objects I like but don't use as intended can find a new purpose. Your aunt's soup tureen has lovely curves and without the cover would make a great planter or vase!
Oh my.. so appropriate for me.. goodwill here I come!
Denise, It was hard to believe that all of that came off of that one shelf!!!! I have two sets of luncheon plates also. It has been quite a while since I used them. You are so funny I love those tea pots also.
I’m here from Mary’s Nest and loved this video! Definitely subscribing now and watching more of your content.
This is timely for me! I had already started my list, so I’m going beyond the list to actually doing this!
I have soo much stuff! Yes, keep that gift item private.
I so appreciate you for your advise and practical demonstrations! When I put something in a donation box, I find I get a little excited thinking this [whatever] will find a new home where it is appreciated and useful (instead of collecting dust on my shelf!)
I'm here from A Hoarder's Heart because she recently posted a video and said it was for Mega Motivation.
I have things I live and don’t use. I’ve been donating them gradually. So it’s not so painful!! To the garage and a month or two later to the thrift store!! I used to do a lot of entertaining, but not anymore. I try to keep this in mind when clearing. Only have a few distant relatives left so no one to give it to. I have even taken out half the dishes and glasses and store them in the garage. The rest I use until I break one!!
Teapots are great planters
Thank you so much! This is encouraging me to clean out all of my kitchen "things," too. This really helps me see it being done.😍😍😍
Giving your Luncheon trays or other family pieces to one of your children may be nice. The luncheon trays also good for shtf days when paper and plastic plates run out .
My daughter helped do an estate sale. The little old lady had a bunch of stuff but most were broken and glued. They sold for pennies if at all. She told me in no uncertain terms to get rid of my broken and glued items before she had to get rid of my stuff. I think of that all the time. Good job decluttering.
Denise…I totally get it. I’ve decided to go ahead and part with those luncheon plates and cups. My friend wants them for her church teas. I can always borrow them back when I need them.
In the local area a lot of artists use broken China pottery etc to create beautiful art!
Very good advice thank you friend
Great organising video Denise 👌👌
You have inspired me to go through my kitchen cabinets!
Hi there, Mary's Nest sent me here, new subbie 👋
It seems that part of your identity is being a hostess and making your house a home. So, these items are all part of that and I have found that items that re-enforce our "identity" are the hardest things to part with. However, in the past few years, I've adopted more of a use it or lose it philosophy. Sure, I can love it, but then I need to USE it. Just loving it is not usually enough to justify the real estate it takes in my house or add to the inventory that I need to manage. For example, you wanted to clean out the cabinet and you like to wipe things down with bay oil... but that seemed like quite a chore just to wipe down the cabinet. So fill the shelf with things that you love, but make sure you use them. As you are being intentional with using it, you can determine if it's still worth your time and make you happy. Like the time it takes to change up things so often or to climb up into the cabinet to pull something out, may eventually have you let something go as you decide you don't LOVE it as much as you thought. Anyway, great job peeling that onion layer as you went through and let some things go. And I love that you mentioned you don't NEED that item to remember your fond memories of your aunt. If it's not serving you, let it serve someone else.
Oh...and that is all part of my identity, too, so I totally get the loving those kitchen items. I just have been getting really honest with myself the past few years and how much energy I want to spend on those things and now, I'm pretty happy with the amount we have and I can use all the items and get them when I need them for family/friend gatherings!!
I have some of those luncheon plates and the matching glasses that were my great grandma's. I rarely use. I think of her when we use them. 💕💕
Thank you, Denise! Very motivating!! I'm going to start with one shelf!!
Great job! I do admit, though, being a teapot collector, and also appreciating beautiful tureen, my heart sank a bit when some of your ironstone pieces went for donations. My husband built me two shelves for my teapot collection, and I do limit myself to that and my China cabinet. One tureen sits on my China cabinet, another in a kitchen cabinet, and is used for serving chili and soup. But, those are my soft spot items! I will look over other things for donations...inspired!
I love your turtle measuring bowls.
Great motivation! Thank you for sharing.❤
Thanks for this Denise. You have me thinking of some ceramic teapots that I don’t use anymore and they are just taking up space. I think I will just keep a couple and donate the others. I’m sure someone else can use them. This has me thinking about other areas of my cabinets to de clutter.
I really enjoyed this, Denise.
Hi Lois. Thank you. What’s the clutter situation at your house?
I'm staying on top of things for the most part, Denise. I'm currently going through some much dreaded paperwork as well as getting a load of craft items ready to take to the Salvation Army.
Bay oil is a good idea. I do use bay leaves.
I just love the fragrance of bay oil. It’s such a clean scent.
I love your show
Thank you Linda. What the clutter situation in your kitchen?
Actually did this today!! Way to much. Like you some things sentimental but don’t need anymore. Sending some to family members donating the others.
I actually had some food that had gotten pushed to the back and had to be thrown away!! Money wasted😢
Hi Mrs Denise. I wanted to send pics of my pantry reorg. I should have taken before pics but I only took after (before was a little scary). Do you have an email I can send it to, or should I share mine?
I miss your vignettes.
