    We knew David James for a few years in the 90's when he was at Liverpool.
    Lovely bloke, lovely family. We used to go to his house, he'd take us to training, picked us up from school...it's always bugged me the criticism he received because i knew how much he cared and how much it hurt him and he was such a genuinely nice fella he didn't deserve it

  • @Cael175

    Brilliant as always. David James very underrated, of course had a bad spell as most goalkeepers do but in that era with how vicious the media was he had no chance of recovering to the height of a big club again. Still something to be said about going on to become England no.1 into his 30s after being so low. Fair play.

    I love hearing Simon Jordan interview Simon Jordan

  • @dod10YT
    @dod10YT Год назад +62

    I feel Simon Jordan's questions and interview technique are more about him putting his opinion over rather than drawing out the opinion of the person being interviewed. I appreciate Jordan covering awkward topics but does he need to layer his opinion before the person gives there stance? In doing so the question becomes loaded and therefore may affect the response. Just a touch more listening and less interrupting would give more of an interviewee's perspective.

    • @tokhmi2006
      @tokhmi2006 Год назад +6

      Exactly! Simon talked way too much in this episode and had to give his own opinion on everything.

    • @HaroldBolton-xs9vd
      @HaroldBolton-xs9vd Год назад +1

      You do get that but I also think Simon has he genuine interest in sport and wants to hear others' opinions on his opinions.
      Also it's leads to a unique interview. If Simon didn't impose himself the questions would be "what's your greatest moment?"

    • @stephengreen6683
      @stephengreen6683 Год назад +3

    • @dod10YT
      @dod10YT Год назад +4

      @@HaroldBolton-xs9vd I think we would get a somewhat less Jordan-centric exchange in a scenario where Jordan asks a question, receives a response and then challenges or opines on that response. IMHO it is just the layering of his take before the interviewee has a chance to respond I think may potentially change the response to for example, defensive. As mentioned, I enjoy coverage of difficult subjects and hope that continues but Jordan's interview technique detracts from the final product for me.

    Love this podcast and always been a fan of David James, especially as a neutral. Heard on the Fozcast that Fozzy reckons DJ could still play professionally and I think that just shows how respected he is by other professionals. Even the odd dig at John Barnes, Sol Campbell and Razor David James got a little defensive as he didn't want to comment, remaining committed and to loyal to these team mates, which not being team mates for so long just shows true loyalty and what'll always exist. I started this pod when it first started and loved them, but fell behind. In the last two days I've watched 5 episodes. Johnny Nelson tomorrow and Barry McGuigan and then up-to-date (aside from the odd few who I'm not keen on). Always thought David had all the attributes to become one of the great keepers; physical stature, intelligence etc. However he was sadly lacking in the most important one of all for his position, 'Concentration'

    England tried that in the 80's with mainly Liverpool players. It didn't work. They were crap. Something about playing for England.

    Aaaaaarrr omg . David , please mate if your going to do podcasts or media interviews have something to say . Don’t air brush over history. Actually meet David numerous times in 90s and he’s lovely man but piss off airbrushing over your failings . That generation of Liverpool players should of been seen as a golden generation until your lapses in concentration or maybe mental strength cost us badly and ultimately changed the course of football history. Also saying you quit smoking when you where 30 says a lot . Be honest, you mean quit smoking cannabis at 30 . I knew that anyway but I’d prefer you owned your own decisions in life and openly admit you smoked cannabis when you played at Liverpool. Sadly you let that team /club down badly also that generation of players that should of achieved a lot more than they did .

    Several times Simon uses the argument of using the known to determine the unknown. Firstly, in his disapproval of Gareth Southgate and his decisions not to make changes at certain points in games, and also the idea that the current crop of English players are as good as they are because they have benefitted by player under foreign coaches and with foreign players.

    James didn’t have a great career at Liverpool but he didn’t exactly have Hansen, Lawrenson or Gillespie etc in front of him. And you can debate that the rot set in before he even joined the club. So in closing, thanks DJ and sorry for being so hard on you!
