Simon tries to make it sound like the club willingly lowered its standards. Taking on the stadium debt and being unable to spend at the same moment that Abramovich and the Glazers and the Saudis made money more important than ever inflating the market was the biggest factor. But you can’t say the new stadium was a mistake. It was something that had to be done to secure the long term future of the club and make them able to compete in the new circumstances in the long run, which it did. And everyone underestimates what it took for Wenger to keep Arsenal in the CL for ten years after the stadium move. And people also forget that there were a number of title challenges in there even though they didn’t end up winning it, as well as 3 FA Cups in the club’s “darkest period.”
Absolutely that was the right play in building ashburton grove but what changed is the sky sports/tv deal: was no longer how much the gate revenue was but how high you can place to take in the tv revenue. I feel like the "injuries" card gets played far too often as an excuse. No doubt, he didn't have the greatest injury record by any means, but I still feel like he lost that bit of magic once he started developing from his early twenties onwards. I personally felt that he filled out too much later in his career by putting on body mass which impeded the main attributes of his game of carrying the ball, commiting opposition players & being agile & mobile enough to swiftly turn away & wriggle past opponents with a quick change of direction. He was nowhere near as silky a player after that 2010/11 season. Of course, injuries didn't help, but I don't buy into the narrative that it was plainly a case of "injuries robbed him of going on to achieve greatness in the game." Even when he did go through spells of getting a consistent run of games in the side later on, as I said previously, he'd lost that bit of magic that he showed when he was first breaking through & failed to ever recapture it. I think too much emphasis is placed on the Barca game when he was 19 & his "injury record" as way of explaining as to why he never went on to become world class.

Shall we play Jordan bingo .... Wax lyrical .... the kids need to learn how to get over adversity ... I once owned Crystal Palace .... There are no leaders in football anymore .... HOUSE ... He's such a scratched record 🤣🤣🤣
That game against peak Barca where he twisted them up & tore through them was immense... I remember seeing Henderson at Liverpool at the same age and thought there was no way he'd become better than Jack..
"Twisted & tore through them" is a bit of an exaggeration. He more than held his own, but it's not like Xavi, Iniesta & Busquets were chasing shadows all game & couldn't get a kick. He was excellent that night, but the narrative that he completely gave them the run around & had them in his back pocket all game is a myth, mostly pedalled by fellow Arsenal supporters who want to push forward the arguememt that we had a potential legendary CM in our side but we were robbed of it because of injuries.
@oisin5684 we were robbed because of injuries... Jack was quality and he did give Xavi Inietsa & Busquets the run around in that game. Hence, Fabregas naming him as one of the most talented players he'd played with, that game as I said was immense but don't act like he didn't perform before all of the injuries to come...
@@oisin5684I question whether you supported Arsenal during Jack's breakthrough & watched him play... Not only Arsenal but England was robbed by his injuries.
@stunnerofagunner I feel like that "injuries" card gets played far too often as an excuse. Granted, he didn't have the greatest injury record in the world & missed the entire 11/12 season through injury but I still feel that from the age of about 21 onwards, he was far more laboured in his core movement, especially when in possession of the ball & didn't seem as free moving as he was during that 10/11 season. He had clearly bulked up & I just question whether that took something away from his game that he previously had. He had a bad time with injuries during the 15/16 season as well where he barely played but he had more than enough spells in the side in between & after that period where he had consistent runs in the team where he was playing every week. I personally felt that he had filled out a bit too much by putting on body mass which impeded the main attributes of his game of carrying the ball, commiting opposition players & being agile & mobile enough to swiftly turn away & wriggle past opponents with a quick change of direction. He was nowhere near as silky a player after that 2010/11 season. Did it? Or did it lay the foundation of where Arsenal are today? If those transfers never happend would we be in the position of trust, building relations and club unity.
Jack was such a phenomenon talent, its just a pity his ankles never recovered and had too many issues after that first ankle injury. I always remember ow a young Jack Wiltshire absolutely bossed and ran the show in midfield vs Barcelona in the champions league. Excellent stuff...Love it...Jack
What a player if he wasn't injury prone
Still a great player with half a leg.
I feel like that "injuries" card gets played far too often as an excuse.
Simon's questioning shows much of Arsenal hate😢
I'm glad he asked those questions. Those years wilshere been thru the decline of the club I have been thinking why why why all the time. It makes sense now. That's harsh reality and I'm glad we are going back up. It's an interesting part of my life too
He wanted Jack to throw the club under the bus
"What's that got to do with the price of cheese?" S Jordan 2024
It's a common phrase.
When is the Mourinho interview coming?
Really enjoyed this convo
Spurs fan here. Really enjoyed this.
Respect mate!! You’re such a great guy saying that as a spurs fan!!! 🎉👏👏👏
Shall we play Jordan bingo .... Wax lyrical .... the kids need to learn how to get over adversity ... I once owned Crystal Palace .... There are no leaders in football anymore .... HOUSE ... He's such a scratched record 🤣🤣🤣
Top interview Simon
Jack will always be loved by the Arsenal fans
@stunnerofagunner Been supporting the club and following football since the 04/05 season, so yes, I have.
Confirming what all Arsenal fans suspected all along
Gallas was a prick
yep and proved it when he sat on his arse when the team needed leadership
Arsenal went in severe decline when they signed Arteta, Mertesacker and Podolski. Wenger was at the beginning of the end at this time.
And yet one is now the 1st team manager and doing a brilliant job, and the other is the academy manager and also doing brilliantly.....bravo Wenger 👏
@@originalrbp2869yep but I wasn’t talking about today. Those signings set Arsenal back a decade.
Did it? Or did it lay the foundation of where Arsenal are today? If those transfers never happend would we be in the position of trust, building relations and club unity.
@@originalrbp2869Well said, thank you
@@peterlpool1387 it was the move from Highbury to the Emirates that set arsenal back!
Jack was such a phenomenon talent, its just a pity his ankles never recovered and had too many issues after that first ankle injury.
I always remember ow a young Jack Wiltshire absolutely bossed and ran the show in midfield vs Barcelona in the champions league. That Barca team had xavi iniesta Messi, it was one of the best teams and Jack outplayed them.
Great video simon
He was absolutely immense that game
I couldn’t believe what I was watching
Charlie patino reminds me of wilshere hopefully he reaches wilsheres level
@thedon3071 completely agree it was a true masterclass from someone so young
@thedon3071 yes 110%, iv said the same about Charlie I just hope he gets given the chance at Arsenal
thank you for this guest, Im an Arsenal fan since 2007. Jack was my favorite player growing up. I'll never forget this game against Barcelona
Jacks honesty makes him very relatable to the fans on the street and you cant help but love him more and feel the emotions he went through during his playing career and in turn feel his determination to become a top coach and achieve the things he missed out on by helping young players to use what he learnt the hard way to help them to have a succesful career.
Jack is a great lad
Arsene gave us gems in Fabregas and Wilshire hope arteta can trust the academy talents like Nwaweri And Lewis scally football nowadays is easier for kids to play at high level
Love Jack... Simon still a Prat!!
Dont worry Jack, we loved the chant
Simon doesn't like Mikel , jealous.
He doesn't like anything/anyone Arsenal.
Good interview Simon Jordan👏👏👏
It is pity, the injuries. Jack Wheelchair

Nice that West Ham gave him a pay day on his way down.
One of the best interviews done on the podcast.
Shut up Jordan. It’s the guest we want to hear speak not you.
I don’t see the big problem with the chant to be honest
Exactly nothing wrong with it bit of banter
Its attitude and fitness
Professional Hospital patient who's career was blighted by Football
Jack was having absolutely none of the bottling accusation! You could see how pised he was and trying to be diplomatic 😂
