    But, for a daily driver, Ford Edges are solid cars. I had a 2014 Sport model, and am considering the ST. At pre-owned prices, this is an excellent choice.

    • @Goldenwoodz
      @Goldenwoodz 2 года назад

      Omg they are SUCH solid cars. I’d never ditch that older Edge with those big 22s for a new ST, it’s too bold and a true classic well built “old” Ford…I think the new ST ones are hideous compared to the last two previous generations of Edge Sports prior to the new 2019 “ST” sport model. ST should of been left with the focus only as that was an exclusive trim name for that car for many years and only by itself alone, now the Explorer comes in a ST model and the Edge now, shocked they didn’t throw the fusion sport off into that too.

    If you want one vehicle for all your needs all year round that will handle almost any road condition but you also want to have fun driving it then these sporty suvs are perfect. Don't know why everyone is bitching about it, not all of us have the money or space for multiple vehicles that serve multiple purposes. This is a jack of all trades, master of none but still pretty damn good at all of them. They're also incredibly safe and they have more versatility than 95% of the population will need from any type of vehicle 95% of the time. I think it's a pretty damn good rig....

      We have a 2016 Sport, absolutely love it and would never consider an ST. We think it’s hideous compared to the last two generations of Edge Sports and I think nobody ever talked about the Edge sports or noticed them much until the ST came along. Older ones seemed visually bolder in my opinion, especially the 2014 with huge 22in rims, you’ll never see that again after that year. ST was exclusive for the little Focuses n Fiestas and should of stayed at that, that was unique to them specifically but at least the new one still has a V6, thank god.

    This is the logical conclusion of current car buyer trends and the irrationality of American buyers. Its a Mid Sized CUV with a turbo charged engine geared toward emissions and fuel economy with sporty suspension, no manual option and an appearance package. Its the most cynical piece of machinery I've ever seen since Nissan turned the Pathfinder into a borderline Minivan. This thing is soulless and will be remembered as the vehicle that proved that car manufacturers could actually sell themselves out even harder than they did in the early 2000s. Buyers want something sporty but they don't want a sports sedan or coupe. They want something fuel efficient and cheap to maintain but they won't buy a compact 4 cylinder car. They want cargo space but refuse to buy station wagons or even hatchbacks anymore. And then everyone complains when they end up spending 40 grand on a Crossover cause they wanted everything in one package including an assload of unnecessary safety gizmos that are gonna break in a few years and leather seats they didn't need. If any of you want to support this instead of cars that are actually good, you go right ahead. I'm just gonna save up and stop eating so much overpriced fast food so I can have an actual sports car on the side instead of whatever this confused amalgamation of plastic and cheap iron is supposed to be.

    • @Wild-Dad
      @Wild-Dad 5 лет назад

We had an offer from a dealer similar to yours, about $40K fully loaded with everything but the winter package. For 2019 a similarly configured Edge ST has an MSRP over $50K. Real world prices are different from MSRP, of course, but I suspect even a very good deal wouldn't drop the price below $45-$46K. Not sure what you're getting at. The video I saw showed that there is very little difference between the "new" Edge ST and the Edge Sport. A mild tune and some swaybars does not make a "performance" car...and it definitely doesn't make a Ford ST.

    • @TheRealSmithFamily
      @TheRealSmithFamily 5 лет назад +3

      20% stiffer rear springs. 10% stiffer fronts, brake and cooling package available, mono tube over dual tube shocks/struts, solid sway bars, different front and rear facia to differentiate it from standard Edge's, power increase, 8 speed transmission, completely different AWD system with tq vectoring, software changes for improved driving dynamics. Sure, it's not a completely NEW vehicle, but Ford NEVER claimed it to be completely new. IMO, they took a good vehicle and improved upon it. I don't see the downside here! They said 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. I think they're being cheeky with that number personally.

      The downside is they called it as ST. The ST has been a driver-focused, manual-transmission sporty car for cheap. This Edge is a slight upgrade to the Edge Sport with a massive price tag. It's not an ST. Had they left it called the Sport, there'd be no complaint from me.

    Took a serious look at the 2018 Ford Edge Sport earlier this year. I liked it. My wife (who is the daily driver of the vehicle) not so much. For 2019 Ford has added a little power, an eight speed transmission (versus the previous six speed), and some bells and whistles that Ford claims merits the ST badge. All of that comes with a significant price increase. I'll withhold judgment since I haven't driven it but I'm skeptical that it's worth the price bump, especially since in terms of pure acceleration it seems to have lost a bit compared to the Edge Sport. (Perhaps a result of tire choice?)
    Based on its merits as a suburban hauler with mild off-road capabilities it's a mixed bag. About the same size as the Kia Sorento the Edge doesn't offer third row seating. The tow rating has been upped from a paltry 2000 lbs to 3500 but that still trails the Sorento's 5000 lbs. The interior is attractive but hardly cutting edge (and definitely not eye catching. What's with the toy tach on the left side of the instrument cluser?) I do like the 2.7 V6 twin scroll turbo so if one is looking for a peppy, relatively affordable crossover, it's worth checking out. But ultimately I had to agree with my wife that the V6 Sorento was a better choice. I don't think the updated version of the Sport would lead to a different conclusion.

      @Anthony Tomaro I think you're confused. The 2019 Edge ST does not have a 3.7L V6. It has the same 2.7L V6 as the previous year's Edge Sport. It's the same engine as the base engine in the Ford 150 and the (soon to be extinct) Ford Fusion Sport. You may be thinking of the Ford's 3.7L NA V6 that was available in the Lincoln MKZ or the 3.5L V6 that's available in the Lincoln Navigator.
      As I said, I seriously considered the 2018 Edge Sport. It was a budget bargain for a (modest) performance crossover. But there's a reason it was $20K+ less than the Durango SRT or the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. With the 2019 Edge ST that price gap narrows somewhat but it doesn't appear that the performance follows suit.

      The Ford Edge is 188.1 inches in length. The Kia Sorento is 189 inches. In fact, the Sorento and Edge are the two smallest mid-size crossovers. Each is about 11 inches shorter than the Mazda CX9, for example. Virtually no one (who knows what they're talking about) would classify a Sorento as "full sized." No more than the Honda Pilot, the Toyota Highlander, Nissan Murano, Grand Cherokee, etc, all of which are larger than the Sorento. Full-size SUV's include vehicles such as the Chevy Suburban, Tahoe, the Ford Expedition, and the Lincoln Navigator.
      Yes, the Edge has significantly more torque. It has a definite edge in acceleration, about 1 second 0-60, for example. (6 seconds versus 7 seconds) Doesn't change the fact that it tows 1500 lbs less than the Sorento.

      The Kia has 252 lb-ft of torque which doesn’t arrive until 5200 rpm, the Edge 2.0L has 275 Foot Pounds. You will not tow 5000 pounds uphill on the highway at keep up with traffic. The Sorento also top out at 48K. The Edge ST is much better handling and if you don't all that power the SEL is just find with the 2.0L. Currently in New England you can get about $5000.00 rebates right now on the 2018.

      If you know anything about towing torque is what moves the load. At 252 lb-ft which doesn’t arrive until 5200 rpm your engine will be screaming to tow a 5000 pounds. Visit some campgrounds and you will not find any Sorento's towing travel trailers 21 to 25 feet which weigh about 5K. You won't find Edges there, or Explorers either. They are not made for it and don't have the brakes, suspension, tongue weight to comfortably. Plus the trailer outweighs the tow vehicles.

      To me, it’s not really so much about the power as what else is available in this price range that’ll get you more credibility than an Edge. For $55k, you could also get a modestly optioned Alfa Romeo Stelvio Sport or BMW X3 with the M-Sport package. And both are just as quick or quicker (and “COOLER”) than the Edge ST... Just an observation.

      You can buy a ST with for the low 40's and the price will just continue to drop when more land on the dealers lot.

      You can find a lightly used 2016 Cherokee SRT for under 60k at most dealers.

      How do know how lightly it has been used? You already lost at least two years or warranty and you may not know if the truck has a tune in it that could void the warranty if something would break in the engine. So you will get 14 mpg, have less cargo room, poor quality, a droning engine, but it is faster.
