  • I had a chance to drive the Ford Edge Titanium for a week and it was a surprisingly good car. But it won’t ever replace cars on the whole. Here’s the good, the bad, & the ugly!

    Love this test drive and showing us what a Ford Titanium is compared to a regular Ford Edge. This one's very nice

    It's a car. Practical, 2 rows, storage space, and sits higher than an Outback (definitely a car) but I agree it's a car. So is the Escape. I like the Edge better than the Escape, and I could afford a lightly used Edge. The Bronco range are SUVs, but not really for me; I like having a car and wouldn't normally buy an SUV, but the Edge styling does it for me. I came to the Edge from a 2010 Fusion that I'm in the process of selling; I will miss the Fusion.

    If the adaptive cruise control is anything like the one on my 2018 Edge Titanium, you need to set the follow distance at 3 or 4 bars, preferably 4 if you want smoother braking in traffic. Anything less will be a very jerky experience guaranteed. That being said, even at 3 and 4 bars out, you create such a safe follow distance that other people constantly get in front of you because too many people sit 1 to 2 car lengths behind other cars. This sadly, means that the car will still be applying the brakes harder than you’d like because it needs to create that separation, especially if the person really leaves no room between their car and yours. The only thing that will solve that is changing the way everyone else drives which won’t ever happen.

    I think the 2019 Ford Edge ST is a much better buy. It has all the features if the titanium, plus a 6 clylinder twin Turbo and a towing package. Great exceleration and a beautiful blue exteria.

      I test drove both when looking for a used 19 or 20 Edge. I'm not sad about going with the Edge Titanium - it's basically what an Edge ST-Line 250 now is. I'm not a lead-foot and the Titanium is better for my driving, which is mostly long trips and my long commute. One thing, it's quiet. It's even quiet outside. If you want to hear the engine, this won't do it. With the audio system on at any volume, the engine is almost inaudible, so I keep the tach display visible to see what's going on. But it rides nicely while staying somewhat connected, and it will do what I need.

      Glad to hear that. I just bought a used Edge but had really wanted to find a lower mileage Flex but there aren’t many for sale that haven’t been in accidents or had multiple owners. The car I’m replacing is a Taurus X with the 3.5 6cyl which was very reliable and easy to service (except the spark plugs were a little complicated to change). I am hoping for a similar experience with the Edge (same 3.5 engine).

    I have this exact car in the same color. The engine sounds so poorly due to the high pressure fuel pump system. It’s not necessarily the engine note. The high pressure fuel pump volume varies with engine load. The same exact engine on a few year older model sounds noticeably better.

    I have trouble driving with the windows down on this car. It gets a harmonic "flutter" inside that hurts your head and ears.
    It eats brakes. Rears were grinding at 20k miles.
    The horse power rating has to be wrong. It really struggles with a trailer. Ford 7.3 was 180 ish HP. No way this is 250hp.

    I'm looking to buy one of these from a Car Rental place its selling for under 21000 dollars for a 2018 its original price was 35,000, not bad for a vehicle with 46,000 miles on it, I think time actually is what does damage to cars like rust and plastic breaking down from the environment

    • @rorybuszka2215
      @rorybuszka2215 Год назад

      I would reconsider buying a car from a rental agency. Those cars are used and abused. At some point they have to go. Hard driving does the most damage to a car in its first few years; there's a video where a ford tech changes the fluid in a part of the AWD system in a 2019 Explorer with only 30000 miles, and the magnetic drain plug already has quite a bit of metal on it, showing it has already had a hard life.

    What mpg are you getting from the XC90 as a comparison with this vehicle which you said gave 22.7 mpg

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  5 лет назад

      Good question. I’m getting 20-21. Though the XC gives up a few hundred pounds to the Edge. So it’s right on point if the weights were the same.

    • @jezzyby47
      @jezzyby47 5 лет назад +1

      What do you mean by gives up a few hundred pounds, which one is heaviest?
      It must be an American way of speech.

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  5 лет назад

      It’s an idiom yes. The XC is a full 350-400 pounds heavier than the edge. That alone would make up the MPG discrepancy of 1-2.
