I like the way Alex tries to break down the Pros and cons of the actual competitors. Then its up to the viewer to decide what is most important to them.

I had 2019 Titanium for 7 days as rental in CA. Did 800+ miles. It was very good and quiet. The 2.0L turbo did really well in mountains and on hwy. Overall, I'd buy it. The interior was fine. Not too flashy. I think that their Titanium trim would do for me.
Do you want to risk paying for 2.0 ecoboost engine long block replacement due to coolant intrusion after powertrain warranty expires?
Yea I wish I could afford the Titanium trim but I can only afford SEL which I think it has very nice features
Happy New Year to the hardest working man in the RUclips car review business.
Right Lane Hog I thought that title was given to Redline Reviews...But I’m with you though, this man sure gives us some well sort out reviews.
@@penvon Redline is far too biased on many reviews and generally spends most of his time focusing on "sportiness" ( or lack of) in every car he reviews. Alex offers far more details in a factual, unbiased manner. He also keeps in mind the intended purpose / customer of the vehicles he is reviewing and does not expect every car to be a sports car. Along with Redlines continuous passive aggressive digs Alex beats him hands down IMO.
Jeff M Exactly my thoughts, and he’s gotten worse since he got that Tesla & Porsche.

Interior looks madly outdated and boring compared to the competition
Not sure what you are comparing it too as Alex has pointed out the competition are all old except for redesigned Santa Fe.
@@normt5463 that's my point exactly. Even the competition that's older than this have better looking interiors.
cntcht no they don't
Mazda CX5 has probably best interior. I had few Fords because they always get me on their exterior but to be fair, interior is cheap and smelly. Rental quality.
You are correct, I didn’t like the interior even on the previous gen. for the export market edge gets different gauges, something similar to Lincoln’s gauges, but originally fro european fords
“It appears Ford has found all the buttons that other manufacturers have removed.” HA! Made me laugh. Nice! I agree, though, it’s a lot of buttons, but that’s a good thing in my opinion. :-)
I actually like the styling but if I got one it would have to be equipped with the NA V6.
I agree completely, unfortunately the NA V-6 Edge no longer exists. Thanks, Ford.
Precisely why we bought the 18 edge with the 3.5v6.
I had a 2014 Edge Limited with the NA V6. The twin turbo 2.7 V6 is a much better engine, and total vehicle.
0:57 ..."Edgiest of the Edge.." Lol!!
Front end looks better, but I wish they kept the taillights from the 2015-18 model (they looked better)
Yes! The light bar look!
One of my requirements for a recent purchase was the ability to hold my boxer dog crate plus luggage for vacations so I took the crate with me when looking at SUVs. In comparing the Edge to the Escape, the Edge was edged out because with the second row seats down, the cargo floor is not flat so the crate would not sit well in the rear. The rear opening of the Edge was also not as open as the Escape making getting the crate in & out more difficult. I ended up buying a CR-V. Cargo Volume (ft cubed): Escape = 68, Edge = 73.4, CR-V = 75.8.
Ford Edge towing capacity = 3,500 lbs and Honda Passport towing capacity = 5,000 lbs. Now the Ford Edge is about $6,000 more than the Honda Passport. Ford needs to rethink their pricing, seriously and Ford Edge acceleration is not that much faster than the Honda Passport, maybe by 1 second. My decision is final
Alex, wow you're very good at these man !! Thanks !!
The ST does come with a spare tire. I bought one on Monday and there is indeed a tire where that inflator kit is.
Too expensive for a Ford. Even SE versions are over $30K. Thick A pillars make it hard to see out of the vehicle and interior has tons of plastic components. But it is a nice car to drive.
Interesting vehicle. In the front end dead on shot it looked quite a bit like the Ford Fiesta.
Nah, I see more EcoSport than Fiesta
Awesome eh? Don't dream...buy!
Also the fact that this thing cost almost 60k is ridiculous
The interior looks cheap af
It is not 60k they start at 32000
statler gould well the model I saw at the sf auto show had a sticker price of 56k so ya.. damn near, after taxes and shit.
statler gould remember cars don’t only stay at base price, people option them up
dygardion 91 barely goes about 50k
It's slower and has the same dated interior. Sad 😑. I do appreciate Alex roasting the Sante Fe on every crossover review though 🤣🤣🤣.
But Livernois has a ECU tune good for 4XX lb-ft of torque...
I am lost where does he roasting the Santa Fe? Only thing he ever says about it is that it is slow (which is a fact) and that the MPG sucks (which is another fact) but then compared to this and other crossovers that normally compared with it, he normally says the Santa Fe is the better pick. He even said it at the end of this video lol
I wonder why they didnt put the adaptive shocks on this, Like they did with the fusion sport.
We really liked the Edge but also liked the fact that the Lincoln had adaptive suspension, higher quality leather, better seats (with massage), and the longer warranty. We were looking at a top of the line edge and saw real value in getting into a Lincoln. That is exactly what we did. We bought a new 2017 Lincoln MKX Reserve with the 2.7 earlier this year instead of a newer 2018 Edge Sport for those reasons.
We recently purchased the 2019 edge titanium w/ “titanium elite” package and we (my wife’s car) couldn’t be happier with it. I highly, highly recommend the $800 “elite” package because it feels like a completely different car. In fact we test drove multiple regular titanium’s and had decided against getting one. For $800 you get better sound system, better interior trim on doors, handles, etc and better rims. I hope if AoA does a video on Edge titanium he does the elite package because we felt it to be a major upgrade at little price (considering sticker ~$50). Co pilot system w/ adaptive cruise is unmatched at any similar price range, and this is the first Ford to get it. Feels like Tesla’s Autopilot on freeway. Overall we love it! Test drove many competitors including 3 row and my wife absolutely loves it.
Gee, that's great, but don't tell "Ratridez" in this forum because he "owns his own mechanic shop and work on these peices of crap", and they're 'another fail from Ford". Another high school Chevy (junk) fan boi.
Yep...ford need to fire whoever it is that does their interior design...it’s just so far behind what everyone else is doing.
Yawn. So, who are YOU a fanboy for?
Save 20k and get leftover edge sport leftover
Emanuele Favuzza Edge Sport has a far inferior suspension that absolutely cannot manage the weight and stiffness of the 19-20 inch wheels. ST still struggles but less.
That's what I did. Bought a used 3 year old with 30,000 miles Edge for $20,000 instead of $38,000!
@floyd watt thats normal resale value for any SUV. Get with it.
If there were a hybrid/plug in Edge, I'd be very interested
here so early that the intro chime sounded even more distorted
Funky dash - check. Funky gear selector - check. Wheels too big - check. Hello Passport, I pick you.
Alex , I have been reading a lot about direct injected engines and intake valve carbon build up and the associated maintenance costs and issues. I also read that the Ford F-150 2.7 for 2019 is designed with port AND direct injection to help with this issue. BUT I cannot find where the 2.7 in the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus or Edge uses this new design. I need some feed back from someone that is knowledgeable and most importantly very trust worthy. As a long time subscriber I know that guy is you. Do you have any knowledge of the Nautilus engine, as that is the next purchase I intend to make. If the Nautilus does not use the new engine design, then I am going with the 2019 Lexus RX 350, as it does use both port and direct fuel injection. I hope you will find some time to advise. Thank you.
I wait for the day when all vehicles have 15 speed automatics getting 25 mpg in a Ford Expedition MAX ST
Good review, but can't understand why Ford would ruin the Edge Sport by making it more unusable in daily crossover life (stiff suspension, summer tires, etc)... Makes no sense to me.
They needed to put the ST Badge on something now that they're done with sedans and hatchbacks. They chose this.
Gave serious consideration to the previous generation 2018 Edge "Sport" in the first quarter of last year. I liked the styling, the size, and the performance of the 2.7L turbo V6. But the family SUV is my wife's daily driver and she was less impressed. She wasn't willing to give up an occasional use third row of seating and found it challenging to locate the corners of the vehicle through the steeply raked windshield and long hood. Add to that the 50 Shades of Gray interior and it didn't make the cut. I don't think the "ST" badge would change her mind.
I haven't owned a "domestic" vehicle in years but I had hopes for the Edge. Perhaps the ST will find a market among those who WANT a performance vehicle but NEED an SUV. Have to say, though, that the difference between a six second and a seven second 0-60 time in a family SUV may be appealing to stoplight drag racers yearning to recapture their inner adolescence it's probably irrelevant to most buyers.
I think it’s silly that Ford for rid of all their cars
Despite them not being as popular but they sold in American about 450,000 of their cars, half of that the fusion alone
That’s 450k people that most likely did NOT what a crossover so if those people want a new car car then ford might lose out in those sales.
I own a crossover and hate how popular these things car, sedans are way more fun to drive!
I own a Ford sedan. It's likely the last Ford I will ever buy. SUVs/Crossovers/whatever are heavy, tippy, poor handling trucks and only a workaround on US safety laws to maximize profits for manufacturers.
okleydokley and I feel more people will be like you! I don’t blame you I drive and suv and I’m like wanting a sedan now lol
The Fusion and other sedans were mostly discounted fleet sales. Ford (and it's accountants) are not stupid. They ran the numbers and made a bold decision to maximize revenue and profits.
alliejr does fleet sales not count?
@@dygardion9130 Fleet sales count, but they do not count as "450k people that... did not want... crossover".
Edge of Desire
Isn’t edge model older then Murano and the Murano isn’t going over mrsp. Ford sell out the edge Sport faster and cheaper than the ST. Why call it st
Emanuele Favuzza they both came out in 2015
Nice SUV but I don't trust ford reliability so I'll stick with Hyundai Sante fe instead.
Oh!!!! Santa Fe so sorry for you
Make sure you don't get one with the 8F35 transmission
I like the Edge, but I wish Ford and Chevy made adaptive cruise control easier to get in lower trims. You would have to buy the highest trim then add packages to get it on some cars.
I'm getting a 2019 Ford Edge SEL next week. I cannot wait to get it and drive it. Always been my dream to drive an SUV above 2012. 2019 would probably be the newest vehicle I've ever driven.
Nice car if it were 10 grand less. Isn't this model due for a refresh?
I took a shot every time Alex said "definitely" and got drunk very quickly.
Love to see you do a review on the new 2021 Ford Edge with the new screen sync 4 and new updated interior and some outside lighting changes

I'm so confused. For this money you can get a loaded Nautilus which is better at being a crossover, or a Fusion Sport which is better for fun driving. Who is this for?
@Tyler Ryce No, the ST starts at 43k. If you want driver assists and heated seats it's about 48k. A similarly equipped MKX is 49k
@Tyler Ryce Yes that was my point
future62 mkx isn't the Nautilus.
@@whiteandnerdytuba Yes it is.
future62 Nautilus is the facelift. Costs a little more
Awesome video. You are the only reviewer who covered child car seats. Wife and I were trying to decide between the escape and the edge but the issue was having space for 2 car seats in the rear with space for an adult.
Thanks
I test drove a 2019 edge st recently and found the bolstering on the seats was immediately uncomfortable. I'm not a big guy but it jammed into my thighs and made me rule this car out in just a few seconds. A shame because it has soooo much jam.
Really expensive and unimpressive. Really whoring out the ST name on this prior year Sport trim. Interior is quite dated looking and poor as well. Competition does it much better. Side note, I would take a Focus ST or Fiesta ST over this all day. Such a mistake Ford made.
Thankfully the light bar at the rear is gone. I don't like them at all.
3:50 What about ZF?
What I noticed in Ford models: there is a lack between the overall exterior and interior design. While the exterior is continuesly refreshed most times, the interior, especially the middle console, stays for a while. That's nothing, what we don't see from other manufacturers, but Ford seems to have really big periods when it comes to the interior.
ZF's is a 9 speed
What about Mopar, when it comes gears in their transmissions, don't they have eight or nine
Ford Edges are here to stay. I wish they'd add kiddy seat in third row.
I WAS interested in the Edge but I see way too much technology that I really don't need and am not willing to pay for. I wonder how much these gadgets add to the cost of the vehicle. Really dislike the Co Pilot 360. I prefer to drive a car, not a video game.
NO FORD FOR ME. I will be looking at a Hyundai.
They look good but the interior is just a total drab and it drives like a van
Ford should seriously get away from encasing EVERYTHING in hard black plastic. It looks ridiculous.
Happy New Year Alex! I like this SUV compared to others.
Dear car reviewers, please tell us your height so we can relate.
Alex mentioned in some of his other videos that he is at least 6 ft tall (can’t remember if he ever included the inches as well) but I do get what you’re saying.
It’d be nice when he rates the front seat comfortability that he puts an icon on the left screen where he has his rating and include how tall he is.
If you watch Redline Reviews with Sofyan Bey he’ll often mention his height at 5’7”
@@josiahstearns9615 Exactly, great idea! It should be a no-brainer to put that info there, somehow.

Alex, in regards to your comparison of the Edge towards other competitors - one area where the Edge (not the ST model) is superior to the Santa Fe is the ride quality. I've driven LOTS of Edges over the past few years and their ride quality is pretty comfortable. The new '19 Santa Fe's ride quality is FIRM, PERIOD. Unfortunately, that's typical Korean suspension tuning for Hyundai - too bad they couldn't have borrowed the Kia Sorento engineers for a few days to tweak the Santa Fe's suspension, since the Sorento's ride quality is very good for a SUV. The Santa Fe's ride firmness was a deal breaker for my family. Had Hyundai tweaked their Santa Fe suspension more like the Sorento, I would have gladly bought a mid-grade Santa Fe with the regular non-turbo engine (more powerful than many reviewers imply, the MPG was good enough for me).
When we were shopping for our two row five passenger crossover Subaru Forester XT was at the top of our list but then I noticed an Edge Sport passing me the other day and it got me very interested so I gave a quick Google search to figure out white kind of beast that is, told my wife about it and long story short we have a 2018 Edge Sport in Tri-coat White completely loaded sitting in our driveway. It's hecka quick and best part about it? Wife loves it.
Or get the audi q5 with the audi badge and the same 0-60
A pity Audis are fugly (huge grill and nothing else) and part of Volkswagen (shitty company).
A comparable Nautilus to a optioned out ST is about $10,000 more. You’re right the ST as a pretty harsh ride, but it makes up with good handling.
This is y I watch your reviews Alex.. You are the only one of all the people that have RUclips car test drives that gives visual demonstrations. I watch the other fellas but your my fav cause u use the visuals (car seat - bags in the trunk)👍🏾❤️. I hate watching a review and they talk bout a car seat or space in a trunk but don't show how it looks. My only single wish is for your 2019 reviews that I hope u can squeeze in a comment about how headlights function at night as in seeing while driving. I see a lot of the crash test ratings talking about weak or good headlights.
ZF is like, "Hey, what about our 8spd??" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_8HP_transmission
Alex, pls compare Edge ST vs RDX A-Spec, so many people are asking, it is a fair comparison. I am interested in handling, agility and inside feel/ technology.
I was very excited for ST but was left feeling let down. The 8-speed is not a good match for the engine and Edge Sport with the old 6-speed felt faster and more engaging. Ride and handling is much nicer than the Edge Sport but still not great. If you want a performance SUV that rides properly on 20s, get a CPO Porsche Cayenne.
should i go FORD ST EDGE or RDX ASPEC or what else in this price range 43-46K SUV crossover please guys advise
Both the Edge and Natilus got a refresh, and look beautiful! Then you go inside and see the dash/infotainment.... They've kept the interior that looked good in 2011. Probably the #1 reason why people would pass on one. Just a poor choice to keep that alive. They gotta create something more timeless. Vw does a rly good job at it, take notes Ford lol.
Alex, I have not seen you comment on this, but why is the Ford Edge not sold with 7 passengers as it is on other markets?
Anyone know the width of the cargo floor? Looking for 48 inches of flat space in the back of a vehicle. Thanks!
Put a damn spare tire in the vehicle! I don't know what has gotten into auto makers lately but a spare tire is a necessity screw the stupid inflator kit that does no good for a blow out
American manufacturers finally have caught up with their Asian competitors in fuel economy. Same mileage with 100 more horses is quite impressive. @17:07
In 3 years time, this overpowered rental car will look like a 10 year old H3. That is, as pointless as it is tasteless.
who use cable charging in 2020? cmon ford, have you heard of wireless charging?
Steering while is so ugly
If you don't get the performance package with the summer tires and larger brakes, then you do still get a spare in the ST.
IT's funny 95% of the people commenting on this SUV never test drove it. Plus you can get this car for $46000 fully loaded after all the deals
C'mon, Alex. You used to show us the turn signals. That takes close to zero effort to showcase and yet, you overlooked that this time. Please don't slipping now. You're one of, if not, my favorite car reviewer.
What type of gas do you fill up for fuel economy test, regular or premium ?
Only 1 thing i dislike is the frontgrill.not look like masculine or aggresive look. But overall its a nice car.
Worth spending the extra money and getting the 6 cylinder nautilus .
Higher price doesn't mean it's in another category and doesn't make it better. If they're similar sized, with similar power for much less, it's just better
Meh - lease if you're into spirited SUV on road driving...waiting to see what the electric SUV based off the Mustang platform will do.
@12:14 xc60 is a closer competitor than the GC. and the xc60 T6 is faster than the edge st. and much better equipped. and much nicer interior. and superior AWD system.

Why wouldn’t it be warranty? If out of warranty then upgrade and get crazy fast.
@@smarticus6384 true for the first few years, but what about year 4 5 6?
gladdy02 actually the EcoBoost uses Honeywell GT turbos and are engineered to provide maintenance free operation for at least 10 years or 150k miles. They are also water cooled and Ford designed this system to be able to operate and cycled at wide open throttle and maximum boost to maximum heat load for 10 minutes, then with instant engine shutoffs. That is about as stressful as a Turbo can get. These are not new engines anymore and these are not turbos from the 1980’s. EcoBoost engines are well into their second generation. They were first put into production in model year 2010. Millions have been produced and are running without any issues. Im torn between this or the RDX Aspec. The RDX for me looks better in and out but its slower. Which of the two has better handling?
Is this a rebadge of the sport model with more torque?
The way to decide would be to drive them on an icy road. Does the Edge maintain traction during its moment of torque slip? It seems like that would leave the driver with a moment of uncertainty.
What are the ratios of torque distribution for different driving modes?
Ugh! Rotary style shifter...
Quite frankly I got used to it so much on my Fusion Sport I don't even give a second thought about it.

Interior center stack looks primitive and out of date with it thick bezel frames around the LED screen.
Edge vs. Nautilus. Worth the savings?
I recently bought a ‘19 Sorento EX, and also drove an Edge Titanium trim for a week as rental while on vacation. I’ve been extremely satisfied with the level of quality from Kia, interior materials, infotainment, safety features etc. On the other hand, I was disappointed with the Ford. The interior quality seems cheap, especially the fake carbon fiber looking plastic, and it really seems outdated given it is at the same price point as my Sorento. I like the Edge’s drivetrain, but in my opinion the Sorento wins and it’s not close. BTW, the adaptive cruise, and lane keep assist from Kia are amazing!
ryan r. I looked at the Sorrento if the Edges’ interior is 80 % plastic than the Sorrento’s is 110 %! The infotainment is onpar with Ford on it’s best day and subpar on a good day. The Sorrento also doesn’t do anything for me in the looks department
Great review, as always.....but I don't get the comparison to the Grand Cherokee.....two totally different vehicles
Size wise they are both the same but yes ill happily take the 5.7 v8 grand cherokee.
If you're gonna buy an Edge just buy the Explorer.
I hope people hate this car so it’s cheaper to buy used.
Alex, couldn't you compare this car to the new Acura RDX?
