I think Kitty not showing up was a lie from her. If she wasn't there, she wouldn't have been so upset about it.

I don't think Goldi ever felt that the bears weren't enough for her, she just felt out of place. Which wasn't helped by Baby constantly denying their family ties and calling her a thief among other names.
Which is why I feel him finally calling her sis at the end meant so much

Also I believe Goldie's is actually Gretel from Hansel and Gretel and in this version Hansel was probably killed by the witch and she got away then found the bears so she wanted her brother and parents back not realizing that she literally got that with the bears

First of all, sorry about the copyright, Secondly, This movie is still spectacular. It has gorgeous animation, top notch fight choreography, great characters, a great arc for Puss, and one of if not the best DreamWorks antagonists ever. I like how, at the start, Puss was bragging about having "never been touched by a blade." So the moment Death was actually able to cut him, Puss became a scared, anxious mess. It's the moment he realized he's not invincible after all.

I LOVE the subtle nuances in this movie you notice on multiple viewings. Like for example Kittys problem with trusting others - we know she was declawed, and it is true that many real-life cats after declawing (which is horrible practice that should be made illegal around the world, except for very valid medical reasons, btw.) develop trust issues.
Then there is Perrito. You notice he is the only one who actualy swears. I know its played for laughs, but then you realize he knows all those words from his abusive owners.
His challenges are very interesting too - like Perrito himself, they look nice on the surface, but there is hidden darkness in them, just like Perrito is very optimistic and cheerful, but then you get to know his terrible backstory. The Pocket full of posies? That´s old song (or poem?) about the black plague. And we see the flowers are indeed deadly, but just like always, Perrito doesn´t realize the danger.
River of relaxation? Well, how did his owners wanted to kill him? By drowning him in a river, where he could "relax" forewer. Field of quick and easy solutions? Well, what is usualy considered quick and easy solution? Suicide. And also killing an unwanted pet is quick and easy solution of getting of it.

Jack Horner in his story personifies greed. But in that telling he was a glutton. In this adaption instead of the usual shrek fashion where characters are misunderstood they instead doubled down on his story to be just a deplorable person not just greedy for food but for all magic because he felt wronged by magical creatures. The embodiment of greed. I think calling him just evil for the sake of evil is also inaccurate because it’s more accurate to personify him as a Psychopath. Lack of empathy. No respect for human life or anyone bar himself.
If you think of it, everyone in the movie is dealing with mental health issues:
    Jack is a Psychopath.
    Puss has PTSD
Kitty is lonely and suffers from trust issues
Perrito is the balanced element where his lack of understanding probably caused by a mental health issue or even a developmental issue like autism allows him to be so optimistic and wholesome whilst also having a dark path and ultimately all he wants is a place to belong.
Goldi also has issues but i think mainly as a contrast to perrito

I disagree on the notion that it's not the best movie of that year. It is a masterpiece and definitely in another league to the other crap they put out these days. Also Jack Horner is great. These days every villain has to have some background trauma which makes him really not that evil and Jack being like "Yeah I never had much, just loving parents, stability and a mansion - useless crap like that" has me in stitches every time it's so funny. 😂 To quote Alfred: Sometimes some people just want to see the world burn and it was refreshing to have a character that is just evil. Besides he had a motiv, it just wasn't one you could empathize with.
