- Hey folks! I work at Google and I wanted to share with you guys that I work as a Google Software Engineer. I want to tell you guys why FAANG isn't the only end game for you. By the way, did I mention that I work at Google? Have a wonderful day folks!

!!UPDATE!! After much thinking, I decided not to take the job offer with Albertson's.
If you guys haven't seen my latest community post, you guys will come to realize that Albertson's did not offer me the $260k TC that I had initially thought :( The offer was for actually $26k I misread and added another 0 without realizing 😔
The job offer also wasn't a position where I would work on Distributed Cache Systems. I would actually be working on distributing cash (by working the cash register).
I tried to get the hiring manager to up the numbers by showing him my $200k job offer from Google as a negotiation tactic, but this seemed to upset him. It got pretty ugly and there was some insults thrown by me (and I may have insulted his inability to reverse a linked list).
I eventually left the Albertson's grocery store and had been hoping for him to call be back with a better counter offer in light of me showing him the offer I received from Google.
This morning I received an email notifying me that I am no longer being considered for the position.
I am hurt and disappointed. I felt like I was more than worthy of a candidate for the position, but I understand that a company like Albertson's only hires the best of the best.
As bitter as I am, thank you for the opportunity Albertson's. I hope to become a team member some day later in my career ❤
Albertson is trash good thing they realized your potential and didn't wanna hire you.
Apply after the cooldown period. You'll get there eventually. Dont lose heart. It's not easy getting a job at Albertson's. But, with enough drive and hard work, you'll get there.

Hi! I found you through your vlog. And I hope you're feeling better now. I do believe that you need to cut yourself some slack, you are not even out of your 20s and doing more in a year than people do in their lifetime. Also, although you may say that you are the worst in your team I think that you're way brighter than even the average academic student (because otherwise everyone would be working at Google, wouldn't they). As a comp-sci student I hope to one day arrive where you are at (although most probably I'll just grab financial mathematics and work with hedge funds (I'm already a workaholic, so that would just be a benefit)

@@boyalgo yeah... However I still am a long way from getting my bachelor. The idea of working in a job is still pretty foreign to me. You got yourself a sub. I love getting "real" updates from people working in a field I may end up in
SWEs at startups aren’t compensated anywhere near what FAANG devs are. You can’t just say the stock is worth $70k and then say it’s worth much less than $70K the next sentence.
If you join the right startup you can. Uber/Lyft pre-ipo was giving similar numbers to a lot of big tech companies (and still are), Airbnb, etc. Of course a lot of the people joining very early stage didn't know what it would become later down the road and become the huge names that they are today. But their offers were/are still equivalent to FAANG.
If their company never goes public and fails, that $70k is worthless. You are getting paid a tiny fraction of the company (and they valued that fraction of the company that you're receiving at that number). So you are a part owner of the company and if the company fails, so does your fraction of the pie.

Hi, love your videos. Do you work with people that don't have degrees? I've been contemplating going back to college for the sole purpose of being a more attractive candidate in the hiring process.
Hey Greyson! I never worked with people without degrees. However, I have met people from completely different fields that switched into software engineering. My friend got an econ major then did a bootcamp and got offers from Meta and Amazon. I met a mechanical engineering major who later switched into SWE later in life and joined Uber (when I interned there).
I think college may make you a more attractive candidate, but it is expensive! I've heard good things about bootcamps from friends but no experience personally!

Interesting. I work at FAANG in Europe as a SWE but only get 40k minus taxes. Basically as little as in any other arbitrary company. But I am also mediocre, so there's that.
No one ever factors in the cost of living when talking about salary.

Seriously though, developers who work on lower level systems are underappreciated in the current market. It drives me nuts how someone can legit just do web development and earn 6 figures easily, yet a compiler engineer struggles to break that boundary... Why? ._.

Won't most private companies let you sell your stock for some value decided by a third-party auditor? If not, isn't that money as good as your hopes and dreams?
