"There's too much clothing" - whenever I find myself in a department store I'm always amazed at how much clothing there is, just a random collection of poorly made garments with no cohesive theme, and most of them will never sell. It's a very strange business to me.

Between Hugo Jacomet’s books and their respective channels, I have learned and discovered so much about craftsmanship and tailoring. It has influenced my choices and have been responsible for many of my sartorial choices in my journey. From my first made to measure shoes and suits and now finally bespoke garments, accessories and shoes; the craftsmen I have met are largely thanks to these two gentlemen.

Wonderful chat gents, have been watching Kirby for awhile now and his ‘content’ is second to none. Power to him for his taste and tenacity. Just writing this as you comment on the counter culture aspect of quality goods. Definitely something there I think. I'm way too late to seeing this on day 1. However, I'm glad to have come across your content and Kirby's content. In fact, it was one of Kirby's shoe shining videos that brought me into this community (thank you, RUclips algorithm). And, as someone of the latest generation(s) - it's a grey area, being born in 1996 - I want to ensure that as many of my purchases last; something I'm diverting away from my parents about. I must thank you two for that introduction a few years back!
Hopefully one day, I'll be able to enjoy bespoke clothing the same way you all do! It's tough to do so in a more physically active field of work, and not so much opportunity at this time to dress more classically.

Good for you! I also discovered classic men's dress from Kirby. it could be because I live in Canada and the RUclips algorithm searched American videos first. After watching Kirby and a couple of other American classic dressing content providers I realized that classic yet stylish men's wear isn't boring. And given I'm a female I am now quite envious of how good a well-dressed man can look. Women's wear just has far too many choices in styles and fabrics and few women can pull off a well-curated timeless wardrobe. I'd love to have a pair of even Carmina shoes but I have too many problems with my feet. I won't even go into my love of suit fabrics; it's like falling into a vat of chocolate for me!

    • @sbaumgartner9848
      @sbaumgartner9848 Год назад

Yes the RUclips algorithm has slowly introduced me to better and better videos on this subject. I'm a female but I've learned a lot from watching the menswear videos. If I were a guy I'd be really excited about what my future wardrobe prospects will offer. I actually want a pair of Carmina shoes but I have a lot of problems with my feet... but I dream maybe one day.

Terrific talk. It's so important, I think, to remind folks of the true value of quality + tradition. Fast and disposable are not very nice (as applied to anything, really...) when profit is the sole motive. Also, the way a small idea (style + business) can grow into something wonderful, one tiny step at a time. I proudly wear my dad's cufflinks with his lovely memory in mind. You lost me at tobacco use and shooting animals, but that's just my personal take. A walking tour of Napoli with you two stars would be delicious, I'm sure. Thanks for all you do.

The important lesson here is about positivity.
Believing in one's self, looking to others, and helping the community as a whole.
Either of these gentlemen (truest sense of the word) can show how to behave, but to have both together in one hit... parfait!
[As a side note: "It was 2005 and no one was going bankrupt"... only a couple of years later...]
    Thank you very much.

The sartorial message is certainly reaching the four corners of the globe. I attribute it to a general malaise people are experiencing with the world these days. The pushback is real and I believe the movement is just getting started thanks in large part to fine gentleman like you. Sartorial elegance to me represents order structure rationality manners taste tradition and style. Greetings from Newfoundland Canada

I watched Hugo on Kirby’s channel and now I have the pleasure of watching Kirby on Hugo’s channel. Really fascinating content! Hugo, you should introduce Kirby to the brilliance of two young NY tailors, who you profiled in an article in 2019 - Joseph Genuardi and Yosel Tiefenbrun. In the comments section of a couple of recent Kirby videos, he was unfamiliar with these rising master tailors. I have had Joseph make several suits and it has been a fantastic experience. A video with Sven Raphael Schneider, the unrepentant dandy behind the Gentleman’s Gazette, would be good content.

@@SARTORIALTALKS Ah! Rust is a better word for it! I just remember you video on pocket squares, it was RUST (not burnt orange) you recommended as a universal color for a pocket square. Whatever the nom, I have not been able to find one in a solid rust color. Indeed, I might prefer cotton/linen.

What an amazing conversation ..I have been the follower of Parisian Gentleman since the beginning and it was one of the main reasons why I started to dress in a suit and tie. But I feel like Kirby is correct on the fact that being dressed up is now an anti culture. And bravo to that. Keep up the good work.

Hello, Mr. Jacomet and Mr. Allison!
What a delight to see you together! I always enjoy listening to chats between fellow youtubers.
It was interesting to learn about how you discovered your passions and how YHVH opened up opportunities for you and your wives towards successfully fashioning a career out of those passions. A big smile came across my face as your (Mr. Allison's) testimony unfolded. And if I recall correctly, now a day later, I couldn't help but smile throughout most (all?) of the video.
May Yah continue to bless you and your families.
    Warm regards,
    Nicole B.

      @@SARTORIALTALKS Thank you!
In the U.S., I suppose we (English and Spanish speakers) predominately use YHVH (Jehovah/Yehovah) because of the KJV and RVR1960 spanish version of the Bible, but most people say "God/Dios". After I started to learn about the "Hebrew" communities (i.e. Hebrew Roots/Messianic Judiasim/ ect.), I came to find out that there's a rather tendentious debate over the name. I think scholars (world-wide or western and Christian, "Hebrew", secular ect. ) believe it's YHWH (Yahweh). I believe Hebrew speaking Jews say it's YHVH and would pronounce it Yehovah if they were to speak the name out loud. Among the various American "Hebrew" communities, I've heard non Hebrew speakers utter a number of variations of the name: JeHoVaH, YeHoVaH, YaHWeH (YHWH), YaHUaH (YHUH), and others. I hear quite interesting pronuncuations, but I don't remember them all. I even hear the same people changing their choice of pronunciation over time. It's quite the puzzle.
Well, that's about all I know about that.
From one protean nerd to another. 🥂
      Chao!

The closing bit about transcendence, faith and beauty is something this world needs right now. Jordan peterson talks about this idea occasionally and his investment in his suit collection and the message it sends during his speeches and how the crowd reciprocate and dresses up.
