Thanks! It's not really a "normal" jet bridge. It's like 5 jet bridges that all connect to another long jet bridge in place of having an actual concourse (kinda hard to explain). Long story short - it's a mess, and I hate getting those gates when I fly out of O'hare since there's no seating.
Looking at it from Google Maps, it looks exactly as you describe. Seems like they're just trying to squeeze as many gates in as they can. They have a similar setup at Midway with gates A4A and A4B, but there is at least a large waiting area.
United comes up with some creative ways to torture their customers with regional jet gates. My personal favorites: B79 at DEN (an even worse versions of this) and the "low A" gates at IAD. Honorable mention to the now-demolished king of them all: B84 at IAH.
Love seeing my CVG! I wish my flight would have been cancelled I would be shooting all kinds of vids and hitting the lounge! Liked! 💯👍🏼 happy to see the United flights! Hope to visit STL one day!
In Chicago, they were offering to put people on American did I hear for the overbooked flight ? Would they have not offered you the same thing because it was maintenance ?
I had a similar situation that you did a couple years ago in Chicago where I had to spend all day at the airport because of a missed flight. It's a nice airport to hangout in. Especially for plane spotting.
I agree. I can think of a lot of worse places to be stuck. I could have even hopped on the train downtown, but I didn't feel like dragging my bag with me.
CVG was a huge hub for Delta and their subsidiary comair. I worked for comair for about three years before delta decided to dissolve them after the merger with northwest. with northwest having a hub in Detroit and being it more cost effective Delta moved all their CVG operations up there sad but true. however with delta all but minimized in CVG other lower cost airlines have been able to pick up routes that delta previously had a monopoly on. The same thing happened with USAir and Pittsburgh. Another thing that caused a down turn at CVG was delta having to flip half the cost of an regional jet terminal for comair..not having the funds after the fact delta just walked away. agian something very similar happened in PIT with USAir. awesome footage btw. love your videos!
Alex Lopez for all those that rip on AA and the now dead AMR cutting flights there, what DL did to CVG and MEM was far more of a gutting. At least AAG built a new Admirals Club and have more flights back in even if most were the old US flights.
The ERJ-145 really feels like a small plane, both in how it flies and how the cabin is designed. If you're in a window seat, you really the curve of the fuselage cutting into your shoulder and foot room. That being said, it's very comfortable for short flights and the windows are huge. The E-jet experience is more like being on a small Airbus. Feels like a mainline jet inside and out, though I find you can get some pretty strong G-forces during takeoff/landing and they fly rough in poor weather conditions. As far as cabin comfort, the E-jets are fantastic. You'd never know they were (technically) regional jets.
CVG is really doing great now! They are the fastest growing airport in the US. More low cost flights are coming! Soon they’re going to have a huge cargo hub for Amazon with 200 daily flights. Yes Delta has really cut back on flights but they are starting to bring back routes that are making money in Cincinnati. The average airfare is now the cheapest since 2008.
When i was in O'Hare we had 25 minutes to get to out next flight which was one concourse over (of course) and we all had to use the bathroom so there we were running through the airport. Luckily we found one right across from our gate. We ended up being the last ones on the plane they were closing the gate right as we got there.
I'm going to try and do a trip report of my ABI-DFW-ORD-TOL trip next Friday. Thank you for all your Chicago clips. They help me get a feel for the airport. What advice does anyone have for a first-time Chicago O'Hare traveler?
I feel as if I traveled with you,my legs and feet are aching just watching the sped-up version of your connecting walk at ORD,appears as if you're walking to CVG! Good shot of those two MD-80's at STL,what with that delay at ORD,it might have been easier to simply rent a car and drive to Cincinatti.Good news though--SWA is coming to CVG so next time surely you can fly nonstop STL-CVG.Did you get any inflight snacks or drinks on your two flights?
Tyson Stewart if it does have a bit of a rebound it would be like what STL has had with WN. STL is back up to 15 million passengers, not like the crowding in the TW days, but it is easier to find flights out over time.
This is kind of like my last trip through ORD. Except my flight was cancelled due to technical issues. Rebooked for the next day. They were kind enough to put me up in the airport hotel for the night or send me back to Toronto and rebook to LHR for the next day.
I used to live in Cincinnati in the early 90s. I think I lived in The West End. I live in Chicago now and I sometimes want to go to Cincinnati to see what's changed since the early 90s.
I'm thinking CVG is now a white elephant, since it isn't as busy as it once was, a lot of airlines have left, and the size of the airport is getting smaller.
13:42 cracks me up. "Please remain seated until the seat belt-*ding*" On the STL/CVG bounce back theory: Not sure if you stated it, but I saw where somebody said that SWA mainly took over all the ex-TWA routes that AA abandoned in 2003. Since there was still demand, SWA saw it and took over. Did you know that some of the former D gates (ex-Ozark, I believe) are being converted to E gates to keep up with SWA demands at STL? I honestly don't see CVG as a city that has high demand for air travel (unless your origin/destination is CVG). Not much going on there.
Hi, I have been watching your videos. Great video by the way. My question is did United compensate you for the delay? I heard in your video that the gate agent offering 400 dollar voucher to anyone volunteering on the 1pm flight to take the later flight. I know you were standby on the 1pm flight.
They just gave me a $10 meal voucher (sigh). Though I complained to United's customer service team and got an additional meal voucher and a $150 travel credit. Always worth reaching out.
Did you write to customer service online? If they can give someone a 400 flight voucher for catching a later flight because their original flight was oversold, they should give you more or the cost of your ticket. I would hate to be stuck at an airport that long. Unless it was at an airport in Asia. Those airports there are so much better than the airports in the US.
Wow reminds me why I avoid taking those commuter Airlines legacy jobs and only stick to Southwest anymore had the American eagle have a flap motor issue at the gate took 5 hours to find another plane when I went to Omaha Nebraska last year
Same thing happened to me a couple years back. I had to go to Tampa for family reasons, but I had to connect at Houston. The flight left at 7:30 AM, so obviously I left the house early. I firstly parked at the wrong terminal, so I took the world's slowest bus over to the other terminal and made it just on time.....but it was cancelled. I ended up taking an 8:00 flight to Newark, which is where a flight to Tampa was waiting for me, so I was told. I got there at around 3:00 PM. However, I didn't get the seat I was told I would get back in Vegas. So, I was on Standby for the next 8 hours until I finally got a seat on an 8:30 flight to Tampa. I arrived at 11:00 PM, 7 hours behind of my scheduled arrival. Mind you, all of this was with United Airlines.
Great footage! Especially approaching Cincinnati!! Wish I could find footage of someone flying that high above Louisville on here.. I’m sure it’s on here somewhere. Just probably labeled something silly to make impossible to find lol #safetravels
Yes... if you fly any carrier besides United. I don't know what they were thinking with those awful slimline seats. If you've ever flown on a UA CRJ-700, they have the same ones.
I can't say the *seats* are more comfortable, but the cabin is a huge improvement. Wide aisle, high ceiling, full-size overhead bins, huge windows, and way more shoulder room at the window seats. It's an improvement over the CRJ-700 in almost every way.
Geez this was similar (although not as bad in my opinion) to what I had to go through in Newark back in 2015. Though I missed my connection due to aircraft maintenance and the weather. I was put on #1 for my standby flight, which was cancelled.
First plane I ever flew on was an erj-145 then MD-80 then A319 then two more erj-145's on the way back. Except we weren't on United we were on American.
I'd love to see the cost/benefit on that CVG trip. Honestly, I'm doing my own cost/benefit living an hour and a half away from STL in Chester and 6 hours from ORD. ORD is coming out cheaper on a bunch of the cost/benefits. I can see why people in STL that were spoiled by TW were complaining about the AA dehubbing. Problem was TW was never well run and they probably factored into why the old AA went bankrupt. I know people in STL hate to hear it, but it's true. There's exceptions to that rule but they involve WN or AA flights like LAX that didn't get lost. Internationally, if I want to go to London (I'm planning on doing a soccer involved pilgrimage) I'm cutting $200 plus out of not going to STL. If it were business travel it would be different but on a personal trip I'm better off cutting cost.
It's now almost 3 years since this video was put on you tube but Cincinnati Airport (CVG) has not took in several low fare airlines including Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines which is a good thing. Delta had a monopoly going at CVG and it was in Deltas contract with the airport that anytime any gate became open at CVG Delta had the first chance to lease it thus keeping low fare airlines out of Cincinnati. Now Delta has competition in Cincinnati and the airfare is much more reasonable. Sounds like Delta is also is over priced in St. Louis with their Cincinnati flights. I suggest the people flying to Cincinnati from St. Louis push Southwest to open up direct and non stop flights to Cincinnati. I am sure Southwest fly's many connecting flights from St Louis through Chicago Midway to Cincinnati.

I live in St. Louis and I love aviation. Your channel is the perfect fit for me.
Did you deliberately gate check your bag, or did they make you do it?
I've watch all of your vids probably 3 times! Now it's this videos turn!!! Good work!!!
That Jetway at ORD is by far the longest I've ever seen. It's the length of a darn concourse at some airports! Great report as always.
Thanks! It's not really a "normal" jet bridge. It's like 5 jet bridges that all connect to another long jet bridge in place of having an actual concourse (kinda hard to explain). Long story short - it's a mess, and I hate getting those gates when I fly out of O'hare since there's no seating.

LOL, what an adventure. Then again, isn't travel ALWAYS an adventure? Look forward to seeing the tour, looks very nice at first glance
What kind of camera/filming equipment do you usually use? Thanks.
Loved it! Always look forward to your trip report videos!
Wow that is so crazy but the good thing is that it was a safe trip
Love seeing my CVG! I wish my flight would have been cancelled I would be shooting all kinds of vids and hitting the lounge! Liked! 💯👍🏼 happy to see the United flights! Hope to visit STL one day!
I forgot how much I love watching these
In Chicago, they were offering to put people on American did I hear for the overbooked flight ? Would they have not offered you the same thing because it was maintenance ?

Just curious, what was the cost difference between the nonstop flight and the Chicago connection flight? I always enjoy your trip reports
It was significant; like ~$150 vs ~$600.
CVG was a huge hub for Delta and their subsidiary comair. What is the Embraer aircraft like? I don't know anything since I mostly fly with 787-800s whenever I fly.

I'm shocked you didn't get mugged in Chicago O'Hare! Kidding! I love your videos. Their so relaxing!
Did you get any type of credit or something when your flight was canceled?
When i was in O'Hare we had 25 minutes to get to out next flight which was one concourse over (of course) and we all had to use the bathroom so there we were running through the airport. Good selection of music.....especially when you could not get on the flight and were waiting until 5:30 pm. sets the mood for sure
Thanks! I try my best to make the videos flow naturally with transitions/music/pacing. Sometimes hard when they stretch for 40+ minutes.
Does Southwest not have a direct from St Louis to Cincinnati I know they did in the past seeing as i have flown it.
soundman447 Maybe not at the time
What an adventure! Blame it all on that second flight.. lol
I missed my flight once in DFW when my connecting was to Puerto Vallarta. So I had an overnight layover in DFW
How was the flight from Chicago to Cincinnati a 14 hr flight? (5:30pm - 7:49am)
Whoops, that's what I get for doing a copy/paste with that title. Surprised it's taken someone so long to notice.
man window allignment on the E170 sucks, like 2/3 of the windows are screwed up, ive been on one once but only for a 30m flight (LAX-SAN)
Do you think that CVG might resurge as a viable airport since Southwest has extended coverage to there?
Tyson Stewart if it does have a bit of a rebound it would be like what STL has had with WN. STL is back up to 15 million passengers, not like the crowding in the TW days, but it is easier to find flights out over time.
Tyson Stewart CVG could be a good focus city for WN or F9 I believe.
It’s gotten a lot more busier
southwest has two gates at cvg
Quick question, was Trans States Airlines originally the regional division of TWA?
did you have to go through security before you got on your flight to Cincinnati that you booked?
Yet again, awesome video man
This is kind of like my last trip through ORD. Except my flight was cancelled due to technical issues. Rebooked for the next day. They were kind enough to put me up in the airport hotel for the night or send me back to Toronto and rebook to LHR for the next day.

Good for Southwest (WN) but for those who are on the points accrual kick, I could see why they might want AA to add a few of the lost flights back.
Great video. Amazing music.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
CVG is still trying to bring new airlines in. WhenSouthwest comes in June they could change the Airport a little bit.
you were in my area, great video as always keep up the great work
Not a direct flight from St. Louis to Cinn? Seriously?!

Your Plane Almost Ran Over The Boeing 777-200!
On The 2nd Flight.

Oh that’s not Cincy.. it’s Peoria lol anywho! Still great footage 👍🏼
Great video! What’s the song called in the beginning?
For comparison with seat room, how tall are you?
Are the ERJ-175 seats comfortable?
Yes... if you fly any carrier besides United. I don't know what they were thinking with those awful slimline seats. If you've ever flown on a UA CRJ-700, they have the same ones.
I have flown the Crj-700, but according to United the seats are slightly larger on the ERJ, so I was wondering if they were more comfortable.
I can't say the *seats* are more comfortable, but the cabin is a huge improvement. Wide aisle, high ceiling, full-size overhead bins, huge windows, and way more shoulder room at the window seats. It's an improvement over the CRJ-700 in almost every way.
Would you fly on it for over 2 hours? The thing I like about the plane is that it has no middle seat.
I did a 4.5 hour leg STL-SFO last year. It was perfectly comfortable. The E-jets fall in the same class as the Boeing/Airbus narrowbodies in my mind.
Geez this was similar (although not as bad in my opinion) to what I had to go through in Newark back in 2015. Though I missed my connection due to aircraft maintenance and the weather. I was put on #1 for my standby flight, which was cancelled.
Yeah, as far as airports I wouldn't want to be stuck in for a day... Newark is pretty close to the top of the list :)
im traveling to phoenix from omaha this tuesday
The Elevator Channel have you live stream on RUclips
Seriously? No direct flights to Cincinnati from STL?
D N In the description, he mentioned that Delta does fly nonstop between STL-CVG, but he took United via ORD because it was cheaper.
Not bad, good engine quality on the noise, If you fly SAS to Europe, you would like them.
What's the song at 17:30?
First plane I ever flew on was an erj-145 then MD-80 then A319 then two more erj-145's on the way back. Except we weren't on United we were on American.
I used to love Embraers, but over time I've gotten less tolerant of turbulence, which these places can't seem to handle all that well /:
I've noticed the same thing on the E-jets, not so much on the -145. Though I still love the plane.
CVG is also a Delta hub
mitch lunger Delta dehubed around 2013
The airport (actually in Kentucky) is close to nothing.
Hmm. United + Overbooking = ?
