The BEST Exercises For Your Thyroid (Do THESE & Avoid The Rest)

  • Exercise is probably one of the best treatments for your thyroid that you aren't taking advantage of. Don't believe me? Here are just some of the benefits:
    1. Higher free thyroid hormone levels.
    2. Lower TSH level.
    3. Faster weight loss.
    4. Increased muscle mass and better muscle health overall.
    5. Improved mood.
    6. More consistent bowel movements.
    7. Reduced inflammation.
If you wanted to take advantage of a treatment that can help you almost as much as a thyroid medication (without the need for a prescription) then exercise is something you simply can't ignore.
But how can you exercise for your thyroid? And if you do, how do you know which exercises are best?
Exercising with a thyroid condition is difficult, but not impossible. Symptoms like fatigue, and muscle pain, which can stem from low thyroid function, can limit your ability to exercise but the good news is that exercising can actually help alleviate these symptoms.
If you are going to exercise, the best combination of exercises includes aerobic exercise along with strength training. Doing both of these will allow you to take advantage of the benefits of exercise without causing more harm than good.
By the way, exercise works for ALL types of thyroid conditions including hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, those post thyroidectomy, and those post radioactive iodine ablation.

The biggest thing I learned as a hashimoto's patient when it comes to exercise, is moderation. The body recognizes physical exertion as stress. Which increases cortisol and when that's out of whack it's very hard to lose weight. Two years ago I started a daily routine that consists of stretching, then alternating between light weights, balance, body resistance exercises, and moderate cardio. I no longer push myself for deep long workouts or try to compare myself to folks with normal thyroid levels because it just ain't gonna happen. Since accepting this and doing regular moderate exercise, I feel great, I haven't gained weight and feel really good.

@kitchensink I have elevated TPO antibodies but I haven't been formally dx with Hashimotos. I have found when I exercise to intensely, I start exhibiting signs of high cortisol i.e. terrible moods (stressed for no reason), terrible sleep, damn near depression. Anyway. Idk if you will see this message but I'd love to connect since we have similar issues.

Adding boron supplement, taurine, l-carnitine, and b vitamins has helped me so much with my energy levels. I have had low cortisol and suspected thyroid issues but this helps me a lot. Also licorice helps but you have to cycle it in and out. Also I make sure I’m getting enough magnesium, d3, k2 and iron. I’ve been anemic in past and that affected my energy and thyroid. Best wishes.😊

@@queenofswords420 Did you ditch ALL grains from your diet? THIS is the one and only step that helped me. Whenever I even think of a grains of rice (let alone gluten wheat) I feel sooooooo bad.
Only when you discover how amazing you feel when you REALLY throw those grains out of your life, you will find the discipline and resolve to really stick to no grains as a life decision.
Of course I also finally developed a discipline of taking selenium, iron, iodine, D3, K2, C, B-complex, B12, magnesium. Only if you really stick to all of this you will see that infact you CAN do so so much to heal yourself from this.
I have Hashimotos but have still not been diagnosed. I read tons of books on Hashimotos....my doctors do not know a bleeping bleep about that illness....so how can they possibly diagnose me? I went to the hospital for another problem and they ran the tests.....the TSH came back with the value of 10 and those idiots wrote SUBCLINICAL HYPOTHYROIDISM. SUBCLINICAL????? I am telling you that I feel like dying every day. I am gaining weight even when I look at food. I am battling depression. I am battling crazy fatigue......and that is still subclinical??

So yes....I am giving CARE-FUL advice to others. There were days that I would feel like falling in the ground and never getting up, driving my car was exhausting imagine going for a walk or exercising. So I decided to go to an Endocrinologist and that was the day I got diagnosed (May 29) with hypothyroidism (unfortunately genetic), I cried my eyes out bcs all this time I wasn’t the problem and it wasn’t in my mind. I actually felt relived but also sad to be a chronically ill person.
Now its 1 July, Im on medications for my hormones, taking multivitamins/omega-3/antioxidants and also in a healthier diet (gluten and dairy in less quantities and more whole foods like vegetables and fruits).
And now finally I feel powerful again. I have lost 9kg and I can finally run for my first time.

Crazy though that I never lost any weight from having a hyper-thyroid. My newest dr had said that I needed T2 for my metabolism but wasn’t aware of it being made until I found you. EXCELLENT VIDEO!
I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's along with breast cancer at the same time. Talk about brain fog and being tired! I skipped the chemo and radiation to shrink the cancer before surgery (lumpectomy), and after surgery had twenty days of radiation (4 days were "boost" sessions). My husband twisted my arm on radiation after surgery. I have cancer elsewhere and in remission, due to immunology treatment, so chemo was immediately off the table and I was not enthused about any radiation but this is targeted and I could lay face down to receive it.
My GP started me on Amrour thyroid medication and after upping it a bit, my brain fog started lifting but I was tired from the radiation and my thyroid. My GP is your typical allopathic doctor and immediately wanted to put me on Synthroid. I adamantly refused that. My mother went through hell on that. Armour normalized her. Her one Edno had her get a radical hysterectomy, due to a heavy cycle that would have been unnecessary had she been dosed correctly with Armour. Her gained weight also came off with Armour. She was a miserable person till she was dosed properly on Armour.
What helped me tremendously with both was walking. I'd go out for a walk everyday after radiation therapy. Where we live there are woods, deer and other animals. It was soothing, distracted me, lifted my mood and I began to feel terrific! My radiation doctor was very impressed with lack of the usual side effects beyond beyond being slightly pink. I stopped having thyroid and radiation fatigue.
Having listened to this video, I think, just simple walking, helped me get through radiation, Hashimoto's and heal better.
My GP recommended Endo is horrible. I will get rid of him soon. I am hoping to find a functional or integrated doctor that can handle my thyroid issue. Having had Grave's disease years ago and leveled off with PTU it seemed to go into remission. I used to go through the Endos like crazy with Grave's. All they wanted to do was ablate my thyroid and I refused that. So it is not surprising that I got Hashimoto's later. One Endo told me that eventually I'd go hypo without ablation.
My immune absolutely system hates me but we have to co-exist. ;) I also have MS but I got that under control with diet and not on medication for that. It is amazing what diet, exercise and a positive mindset can do for you! I am on a very clean diet, - no refined or processed foods, no sugar, no carbs other than what I get from cruciferous vegetables and if I was to label my diet, it's Keto. I am looking into switching or merging with the Mediterranean diet. Keto keeps the weight off. Keep upbeat friends and avoid toxic people. No one needs more stress in their life. Stress is also a health enemy.

I have hashimoto's hypothyroidism and my basal body temperature prior to waking is 36 celsius which is already low. Recently I found out that after working out (around 30 mins of slow pilates like movement) it dropped to 34 celsius and after just 1 set of hip thrusts (with moderate weight - around 40kg and I used to lift more than double) of hip thrusts it drops to even 33.4 celsius. It's worth mentioning that I'm no newbie to working out. I guess I shouldn't allow for these drops to happen, so for now it looks like it's only walks and slow yoga that I can do. Exercise and preserving range of motion, is important for everyone, especially as we age. 😎
Those of us with hypothyroidism should pay extra attention to pre-exercise warm ups, gentle stretching and transitioning quickly between movements, as hypothyroidism can be “associated with accumulation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in the extracellular matrix, which may, in turn, predispose to tendon calcification.”*
Calcific tendinitis affects the elasticity and recovery of tendons. Spontaneous ruptures have been reported in the literature. Just saying.

I love exercising, it's a a big factor with my mental health, in particular group exercise classes. But even though I do some sort of movement every day, most days it's a yoga class, or an aerobics/weight class and eating pretty healthy and at the optimum range for my tsh level according to my endocrinologist, I just can't lose any weight. I know I've gained muscle, but the cm around my belly is the same. About a year and a half ago I started gaining weight, even though I'm healthier, eat less sugary treats, move a lot more (most days I do 10k steps) and have also cut down on high impact exercise like my aerobics class (only do it 1-2 times a week instead of 3 times) due to cortisol. But I just can't lose weight, and it's so demoralising that my efforts just don't translate to my exterior and I don't know what else to do without being miserable due to being super restricted in what I do. Especially when I was unhealthier and able to lose weight.

  • @lam7750
    @lam7750 2 месяца назад

Thank you. But one size does NOT fit all hypothyroid patients. While most have excess weight, a few like myself have the opposite. We have weight loss as one of our issues due to hypOthyroidism. Uncommon, but it happens to some. So exercise actually increases our cortisol and increases inflammation which when combined with menopausal effects of other hormonal changes especially estrogen, this is a huge problem. Bcoz we already have muscle deterioration and weaker bones etc which can be detrimental if we exercise even a slight bit more than a fragile level. That balance or level is critical and difficult to arrive at. Just letting you know it’s not a one size fits all thyroid patients.

I know this is hard to except because it does seem like when you do the exercise, the symptoms come up, but more than likely it’s not the exercise that’s taking your hair out nor is the exercise. Because thyroid problems are a problem of inflammation -that means when you exercise you move the inflammation through the lymphatic system which is needed. Also when it comes to your hair, it means that you are nutrient deficient… if you look on Dr. Child‘s video list you’ll probably find a list of vital vitamins-such as I did when I first was diagnosed with a thyroid condition; and my hair was combing out by the wads, and my skin was dry. I got on his list of vitamins that are vital for nurturing your body, by getting the correct nutrients iodine, vitamin C, DHea, magnesium zinc, vitamin C, etc. those are the things that your body is depleting of because of the information and once you get that in control as you’re exercising these things will all come together. You cannot expect to start some thing and get immediate results but continue on as he’s advising and I’m sure to tell you from my results you will see the benefits.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at a year old; been taking Synthroid, Levo and have tried armour for all my life. I now have vitiligo and my endo suggested I might have hashimoto's, hmm..I used to compete in NPC Figure which includes bodybuilding but not to the extent of getting huge. But six months after my last competition I all of a sudden started gaining weight even though I didn't have any changes. It gradually increased from 115 lbs to 150 lbs and then it plateaued. NOthing I did made me lose weight. I still exercised, ate healthy for the most part but still no results. Then one day and further on, I started losing weight and got back to my old weight. This stayed for two years and then again there came the weight gain up to 150! I'm now at 135 but want to get down to my svelte former self. I've found that I have developed food intolerances on some days. Like, I can eat a PB&J sandwich with no problem and then another time it doesn't bother me at all. This happens with various foods. Do I have leaky gut or something?

The weight just keep going UP and I feel I eat less and gain more. I know I am in starvation mode and not doing myself any good and messed up my metabolism. I struggle and don't feel hungry. What has worked for you to lose the weight? I am sorry and I hope you can get this under control as well. We all need a support group for this. People don't get it when they don't live it! The biggest issue with Hypothyroidism is the autoimmunity causing your immune system to attack your thyroid. So solving your auto immune condition is what must be done, and yes that can be done. Using an elimination diet will help get rid of whatever is in your diet causing you auto immunity. A Carnivore diet allows you to get all the nutrients needed to stay healthy while eliminating pretty much any other cause of your auto immunity. Eating only meat for six months will have amazing results. Then you can slowly one by one add things back in and watch for symptoms or your auto immunity returning. I found out my auto immunity was being caused by consuming Dairy as well as lectins. There is now numerous studies that show that lectins contain Plant compounds that Mimic certain amino acids, and when consumed to body is fooled into incorporating these amino acids in tissue building. However your immune system cannot be fooled and when it spots these false amino acid tissues it attacks them. Your Thyroid is the most sensitive organ in your body to pollutants like these plant amino acids. So I will link to a Video with the related studies in the information section below. One last thing I did that dropped my inflammation numbers way down was High dose Vitamin D3 along with vitamin K2 as MK7. That is a whole separate explanation if you wanna know more direct message me.
