    My wife and I are considering doing this full time to speed up our retirement. Except we will be purchasing a class 8 truck and doing the lowboy or flatbed hauling of multiple trailers and then transporting cars for a backhaul. And then we will only work 8 months out of the year and take the winters off. Right now we have narrowed our companies to either Synergy transport, Indiana transport or, Bennett. Ive been on the road long enough doing the winter driving here out west. Good luck to you all.

    A good way to start a maintenance account is to take so much cents per mile per load. For example the older your truck the more you need to put in. Such as 12-15 cent per mile per load. The newer the truck the less if you choose.

    Thanks for the info. I'm looking to get into this industry but want to start out in drive-away division first. Will I be able to stay busy and make good money in the drive-away division? Any adivce or information regarding drive-away would be much appreciated..thanks!

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  Год назад

      I will be completely honest with you. Unless you have a towable car or really good at the expenses for how you will find your way back to Goshen, Indiana. The rates for driveaway are not good for a stand alone driver, towaway is much more profitable. ( you get paid twice as much per mile as most driveaway units pay. Me and Jeff do very well with it , because I just hop in the truck with Jeff after I've made my delivery of the diveaway unit.
      Driveaway unit take Gasoline, not Diesel so you will not get any fuel discounts. All the companies only give discounts for diesel fuel.
      Rates right now run about $1.00 per mile for non CDL driveaway units.
      You can figure at least 1/3 of your gross will be for fuel.
      Then take out your expenses for your return trip.
      The RV industry ( just about all companies) right now, is on a hiring freeze until about February. But, you can call and check each company.
      Driveaway is very easy, if you can watch your expenses for your return trip , you will do good.
      If you can get a truck and do towaway you will make twice as much per trip. I hope I have not discouraged you, but, it is a tough time in the Industry right now, almost no loads on any companies load boards.. all the companies. We are hoping things will pick up after the new year. Hope some of this info will be of help to you. Thanks for watching and commenting on our videos!

    • @johnnyk2934
      @johnnyk2934 Год назад +1

      @@TransportBandits Thanks for information and for your honesty, greatly appreciated. I was actually planning on getting a tow car and maybe even working for a few transport companies to better my chances of getting back hauls. I'm not sure but I'm thinking maybe the reason towaway pays more is because of the maintenance factor? Maintenance for a small tow car would be far less than for a 1 ton truck, plus the fuel cost would be cheaper for a smaller car as well so it's kind of a wash in a way. Hopefully things will start picking up soon for the industry because I think I would enjoy this kind of work. Thanks again:)

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  Год назад

      Smart plan! A tow car is the way to go! And signing on to multiple companies would be very beneficial for you! Good luck with everything!! If you put in an application for Synergy, please consider putting " Transport Bandits" down in the referall box on the application!

      @@TransportBandits Okay yes I'll definitely remember to put Transport Bandits down as my referral. So let me get this straight, there is absolutely nothing right now on the load board for drive-away? Do you think it will start to pick back up in the early Spring maybe?

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  Год назад

      Oh let me be more clear on what I said, sorry I was not... right now there are 10 loads on our driveaway board... earlier this week we had about 20.. but, there has been practically no loads on our towaway board for the last 2 months.

    I loved you video for requirements. Question I have is... I take it that you both pull RV's. Just wondering do you make or can you make enough money doing that? I looking at doing the RV transport I was an owner operator for almost 20 years but got in the fire service and have been a FF\Medic for 23 years the gave up my CDL A' in 2017 ( what a dummmmy ). SO I guess my #1 question is can I mack about the same money as I did as a Owner Operator? Thanks

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  2 года назад +1

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  11 месяцев назад +1

      I would have to say no. Not unless you have a means of free transportation back to Indiana. Motorized rates are terrible. We knew several people who tried it and couldn't make much profit. basically you will end up making just enough to cover all your expenses. No profit in it much, unless you can, mabey, tow a small, D.O.T. compliant car behind the unit or team up with someone who is running the same direction with a truck to bring you back. You are responsible for your own fuel, and at the rates, you'd have to be very cautious on where to purchase the cheapest gas along your route. Just being straight with you.

    Are you guys going to be team drivers, with one driving and one using sleeping birth, I thought you needed a CDL to do that. You said in your first video you were having a DOT sleeper added to your truck. Any info you can add would be great.

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  3 года назад +1

      Yes. We will be team drivers when we use the Ford F350 with the Woodhouse Sleeper Berth install. We can keep the wheels rolling 24 hours except for the break times. You do not need CDL if you get the WOODHOUSE sleeper. It is the only one D.O.T. approved for pickups.
      However, in our last video, we cannot use that truck..right now, didn't have time to fix it.
      So we will be driving the Ram( where we installed a bed , but will still have to stop for our 10 hour rest.
      But, we ARE signed up for driveways too. So Jeff will drive the Ram, for now, and I will do driveaways ( or vice versa) going the same direction or area. (Twice the money, can't go wrong there!)
      We will have the sleeper berth ford, when we can get it fixed, and decide what to do from there.
      Hope this helps!

Do know if that’s going to require me to have a CDL? Or any I restricted to trailers with CVWR of 16000 lbs (28700 - 11,700 = 16,000)?

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  3 года назад

      No matter what your truck says. It's D.O.T. regulations that you can only haul up to 26,000 lbs combined weight without a CDL. This is where having a CDL would greatly improve your load possibilities.

      1 whole day of class going over everything you need to know about how to hook up, transport, pay, log, and deliver etc. Then 1/2 day for your truck inspection, getting your plaquards, plates, Comdata cards and your 1 st load.

    Is there some reason we can't go with more than one company to ensure we stay busy with our choice of routes?

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  3 года назад +1

      you can only sign on with more than 1 company if you are a motorized ( meaning drive-away) where you are just a driver for motorized units-you do not haul rvs with your own truck. You can only lease on with your truck to one company.. because that company essentially runs the insurance and lease agreement on your particular truck. if you have 2 trucks, i think it would be possible.

      PS.......did you try Horizon as they seem to be the BIG one?

    • @TransportBandits
      @TransportBandits  3 года назад +3

      @@Teeg60 We had a tough decision who to go with. Horizon was a big contender, considering they have a big nice truckers lounge, probably the most loads....but, we also know, we didn't want to be just another driver #. We are taking this on as a long term business, not just a job. So, we chose SYNERGY because his they spoke with us and it felt more like a family/team atmosphere. We have been in our own business for 30 years working with promoters and the public and know what it means to have a more personal connection with both.
      Therefore, we felt, for us anyway, Synergy, was the better fit.
      Who pays more, who has most loads, do they have a load board you can look at, toll reimbursement, and can you self dispatch are always some of the best questions when considering a company. But, remember, developing a good relationship with your dispatcher will probably be the most important pro when it comes down to it.
      Good luck with whoever you choose, They all have their pros and cons. Figure out what is important to you. Thank you and have a happy new year!
