I mean this S85 engine is very superb and fulminant in sound and technology, but so complicated in his components. So many horror stories about owning such a car :D Still a joy for every car enthusiast .

Also the OEM oil weight is massively thick, which is great on a track day but again, cold start wear. These engines LOVE to be beaten on a track and wrung all the way to the limiter again and again. The problem with them lies in the day to day driving, starting them cold when all those fancy cams/lifters/etc in the head are dry... slowly receiving maple syrup oil while the rod bearings scream for relief. Then the salesmen/dumbass owners floor them cold because "hey its a fancy bmw i dont have to wait for this thing to warm up" and they tear the rod bearings apart within 40k miles... I honestly think if those engines had some kind of heat pad in the pan, that kept the oil at operating temp 24/7, and all other service was done perfectly... that thing would rip like new for 200,000 miles at least. -independent bmw tuner/parts developer.

nah they're really really cheap due to horribly reliability and obsurd maintenance costs. A manual v10 m5 with 115k on the clock was listed for $15k usd here recently

It’s called preventive maintenance and all cars require this in some way to stay in good condition. I’m a bmw owner as well and I get it I have to sell my e38 because the cylinder head is too much but as far as driving it fits that description well

You don’t throw rod bearing you spin rod bearings and that’s the only problem with the V10 replace the bearings yourself when/if you buy one you don’t even need to take the engine out

Faris Ali lol you know nothing of these cars, SMG clutch gives out after a few lunch controls, specially when you use the Euro spec that holds sit around 4K the us spec launch is at 1.5k, give or take, the clutches on these lasts a good 10-20 lunches before a new one,
