I am very happy that your video on this nvivo coding is very helpful. i am not very clear as to how you create the containers for your research questions. Can you please make a special video on that aspect. I see also you were showing a powerpoint on in the video which is very interesting as well. I would like to have it if you do not mind sir.

Hi Philip this is really helpful and thank you very much. Can you help answer this question: When you talk about research question, is it the same as the objective? I mean can I use the objective as the containers as I only have an overall 1 research question with 3 objectives?
You're welcome! Yes, normally, if you don't have research questions then you can use the objectives as containers. However, in your case you could create a container for the overall research question and a container for each of the three objectives. I hope this helps!
Thank you Dr. I appreciate the quality of information from your videos. Just want to make a correction ...content or thematic ..which ever goes well with deductive or inductive coding ..what you described was rather the inductive process of coding and/ or deductive process of coding ...content analysis differs from thematic in that the former deals with interpreting words or making meaning from words, themes and concepts from the data ..reasons why arguments hold until date that it is more grounded on sociolinguistics and the pure artistic disciplines , in contrast to thematic which is aimed at identifying patterns and grouping meanings into buckets called themes. My understanding..will be glad to hear what you or other thinks ...
You're welcome! Thank you for sharing your thoughts about content and thematic analysis. You're right about thematic analysis which focuses on generating codes/themes based on the patterns and relevant information identified in the data. Therefore, thematic analysis is more of a inductive process. However, (qualitative) content analysis is more of an deductive because we normally go through the data using predefined codes/themes (i.e. code frame) - connecting the codes/themes to relevant information found in the data. Thanks again for your comment.
Hi ! Thank you so much for this fantastic video, it has been so helpful. For my research question, I am doing a follow-up study and I would be interviewing participants that have been previously interviewed. When creating a case do I import the previous transcript and the new transcript for the participant in one case? or am i importing the previous and new transcripts separately.. to form different "cases"?
You’re welcome! Yes, put both previous and follow-up transcripts for the participant in one word document and import it. With this, you can create one case for it.
I don’t normally create coding phases but what I do it to create a copy of the initial project after initial/open coding is done. You the use the copied project for the second phase - generating categories and themes. Alternatively, to make things simple, you can do all the phases in the initial project. Could you help me to resolve this error?
Thank you! Did you create a case for each of the participants/transcripts?
@@drphilipadu No and it was resolved when i checked your old tutorial videos.. thank you so much for sharing these tutorials and your response to comment. .... Great effort 😃
I’m glad it has been resolved 😊!! You’re welcome!
Dr. Adu, thanks a million.
You’re welcome!!
Thank you so much for this great and insightful tutorial. Question please: If I want to merge 2 child codes into a sub-parent code under a RQ code. How do i do this please?
You're welcome! The easiest way is to first create a code under the parent code and drag and drop the two codes you want to marge into the new code.
