This song is the truth yes Jody Watley is the best of all times. This song speaks a lot of volume lots of, Truth to when it comes too jealous friends and invy. Sometimes, you can have a friend aslong as you have something they want. But the moment they think is something that they cannot have that you have they tend to get a fucked-up attitude because they wished they were in your shoes ,knowing that they can have the same things if they work hard for it or pray about it, friends will get jealous if you get it a new car or come into some money and, they also think that you are obligated to do them certain favor's like become their taxi driver some friends act like you owe them something because you have something they want, but when you don't have anything they seem to disappear .A lot of times . people are not your friend that just want what you have and that's it. A real friend would be around for you even when you're broke so-called friends never want to see you get ahead they tend to like you more when you given them something or when you don't have anything at all, and if they do like you is because you are given them things that you have like if you have a new car they feel like you owe them something like you supposed to be their personal Taxi they want you to pick them up all the time ,they want you to cater to their every Needs & Wants but as soon as you can't pick them up then you are no longer friends ,anymore it's nothing like a bunch of freeloaders ,never want to see you get ahead . They will Often call you out of your name and tell you that you think that you're too good because you can't do everything that they want or need you to. A real friend is there no matter what so the part with Jody Watley says was it the lies they told you is a very true statement because people would tell you lies just to get what they want out of you. They also don't want you to get ahead because if they're not happy they don't want you to be happy either.

Tragically underrated in so many ways. Rihanna, Ameriie, Beyonce and many others wouldn‘t be here without her.

  • @RBS_

AHHHH! They used the Hank Shocklee 12" remix, for the Video!! FANNNTASTIC!!
OK, trivia TIME: Rakim did a UHF interview LOOONG ago ('89), and discussed this video; He knew Jody was going to have something 'big budget', and thought he may be flown out to Paris (like the 'Still A Thrill; Video), or an exotic locale, and was anticipating the video shoot. NO ONE told him about the motif, so he just went along, thinking it was gonna be a 'stone gas, honey'...
He resided in Harlem at the time, and they picked him up in a Limousine (the one in this video) in his neighborhood....and drove him ONE BLOCK, to a warehouse, filled with Drag Queens (LOVE the one with the 'tired' sign at 1:46!), downtown Club Kids, Bodybuilders in loincloths, gay black boys voguing, and the Elvis impersonator!! ...Rakim was NOT READY for that! he said, 'I thought I was gonna leave my 'hood for one night, and they drove me ONE BLOCK!'....ha-HAAA!!
Jody was NO WHERE to be found, and only showed up when he had to the rap part on the stage! ..he said he wanted OUTTA THERE, but knew this would take him (and Eric B.) to new heights as 'street' rappers, reaching for a broader audience....BOY, did it EVER; they were RAW at the time, and this opened the door for Mariah / ODB, Rhianna / Drake, Beyonce / Jay Z, and MANY, MANY others...THIS was the template, all, so RESPECT Miss Watley, PLEASE!

I don’t completely agree with this song but it’s ninety percent accurate because I have never had a genuine friend because I was to out of touch with reality because I was blinded by something I didn’t understand about myself, but now my eyes are open and God has opened them up for me to on guard because I was a loner in my reality, but I had Jimmie’s , dudes that I grew up with that I trusted but they were taken away from me because I really had one big buddy who was my best friend and he was older than me and his name was Melvin Reed.

I meant I had a lot of Jimmie’s and they came and went because like I said before I was my own best friends, but I was a leader and I knew who had my back so it doesn’t matter about friendship but it’s about loyalty and having comrades that are loyal and trustworthy when you need them to be there for me , it’s called street savoir de core and being strong and smart with wisdom and love for them and your fellow man and giving back to them that was there for me when I needed them and didn’t know it, but God did because he ordained me to be his servant that he could depend on to help those who he chose not me

Beautiful and eclectic Jody Watley sure contributed in making our growing years lively. This song for will everly remain A FIVE STARS rating.

Sometimes the friends who have your back are usually people that you don’t even know who has your back because God can designate angels to be their for you when you least expect them to be there, especially when you’re on the streets, because most of the time that’s where you need them, because you have to live by a code, and if you don’t have that too bad and like she said you have to be a leader and that’s a mason .

I was a huge fan of this song when it was released. Thought it was a nice track, but it took me 30 years to realize it had to be autobiographical considering the January 2022 interview of Howard Hewitt, and how he hated on Jody. Careful the ills you speak on someone's life. What God bless, let know man put asunder!

To me, and regardless of where you live in the world, it's extremely hard to find true, proper friends - the kind who never, ever let you down, use you (emotionally and/or financially), abuse/backstab/betray/bully/control/criticise/desert/hurt/judge/manipulate/mock/neglect you, or beg, borrow, grovel, steal, or ask for money from you! And I've had that problem since childhood, and I'm still a loner!
