Being an American and having a middle eastern husband, this is spot on. I will never forget the first time I heard my husband call a man Habibi! I was freaking out, lol. 🤣
I think Arabs have a lot to teach us Americans. We always assume that our way is automatically better but I think our focus on individualism has made us lose touch with each others' humanity and social bonds. I have a lot of Arab friends and I've learned so much about myself, the nature of relationships, loyalty, and reciprocation.

Mark! When you announced this kind of videos I was so excited, now I can't wait to watch the Lebanon and Mexico comparision!! Greetings from Mexico and I think I'm ready for Brazil!!
North Americans like their coffee instant, or drip filtered. Lebanese dont filter their coffee. The more grounds and sediment in the bottom of the cup, the better the coffee. When North Americans cater for a function, they count the heads and make sure there is just enough food for each person to eat and drink. Lebanese will cater for an army whether it's a 4 person dinner or a family BBQ. When a stranger knocks on a North Americans door, business is done on the door step. When a stranger knocks on a Lebanese's door, he is invited in, offered food incesentaly and will not be allowed to leave till they have had a cup of coffee. When some one is complimented on something new in North America, the usual response is "Thank you". When someone is complimented on something new in Lebanon, the usual response is 'Muudame' which literally means "I'd like to gift it to you". When a North American offers something and the response is "No thank you" that is usually the end of it. When a Lebanese offers something, "No thank you" is a negotiated response which needs to be repeated several times because it is met with "Why? Are you not hungry/thirsty? It's nice, don't be shy try it! It's fresh/home made. Come on, for my sake. Wallah I'll be upset if you say no." In North America, people with money have power but everybody pretends money is not that important. ie "Money does not buy you happiness", "Everybody is born equal", "Don't let money be your God" etc. In Lebanon it's not uncommon to hear someone say "They are from a good family, they have money." In North America the family might take pride in one of their own reaching the pinnacle of their chosen profession. In Lebanon, the family take pride in one of their own only if they become a doctor.
"When North Americans cater for a function, they count the heads and make sure there is just enough food for each person to eat and drink. Lebanese will cater for an army whether it's a 4 person dinner or a family BBQ." I don't know which North Americans you're talking about, because where I live, we always prepare too much food even if there are more people than we were waiting for. "When a stranger knocks on a North Americans door, business is done on the door step. When a stranger knocks on a Lebanese's door, he is invited in, offered food incesentaly and will not be allowed to leave till they have had a cup of coffee." Same here except if you're an harrashing seller, who comes every weeks and force you to buy something or someone who try to change your faith.

I should also mention that lebanese family gathering is like vikings having a feast after a war victory at night ,and all that talking loud and telling stories and being open on everything

Comparing cultures is always on my mind. IMO the best outcome is when 2 opposite/antagonist enough cultures merge into 1 individual, family, community, etc. Back to reality now! Needless to say, it is very common for those of us Lebanese who do not relate to the Lebanese ways to feel like foreigners in their own country, or live outside reality, in a bubble. Is that why you seemed sad? Great video and great content! Your videos are awesome!!
This actually applies on all of the middle eastern countries, not only Lebanon. I think the hot climate in our countries made us more passionate, more emotional and more hot-blooded. Plus, due to the geographical nature of our region, our ancestors learned the hard way that staying in groups is more efficient and provides higher chances of survival, which explains why family values and loyalty were taught to us since we were children.
I love how informative and funny these videos are,😂😂.. Arabs don't know what personal space or private life means. But here in Algeria I think that we tend to be more awkward when it comes to expressing feelings and getting closer to others.. Or maybe just me 😂😂. Can't wait for the next video ❤
Very accurate keywords! Being a Asian women living in Europe for more than 10 years, I totally agree with your picks, however, some asian coutries (China for example) are more and more influenced by the values like individuality and personal spaces so it creates big conflicts in the family life , I wonder if there's similar situation in Lebanon.
I'm a Jordanian uni student studying in Victoria BC, honestly same, agreed with all your examples. Also, people in Canada go to bed REALLY early and the nightlife is pretty dead unless it revolves around alcohol (that's so boring and repetitive and not to mention expensive). People also like to meet on individual basis here rather than introduce you to their group of friends, like, if I text somebody and ask what they're up to, they'd say "I am sorry, I am hanging out with a friend, I will see you later" but in Jordan it'd be "I'm hanging out with a friend, come join us!". Mark, have you noticed differences between Canadians from different provinces?

Dear Mark, here are some suggestions for your video comparing Brazil with Lebanon Latest information from Lebanon consulate in Brazil, says that we have more than 3 million Lebanese and their decent people living here. I'm one of them. Music Samba drums with derbak. Brazilian loves drums as Libanes, in several corners of cities of Brazil, will find a sambao or a pagode taking place. food Barbecue, lots of meat, beans with rice are everyday dishes In restaurants NEVER the waiter takes the bill to pay without the customer request, very different from the USA, and I believe the same in Lebanon. I honestly do not understand why the Americans do this, it seems they want to exploit us from the restaurant. Here in Brazil, it is the opposite the waiter takes to bring the bill, even to show the public that the restaurant is crowded and good. We have the famous BBQ, ie, different types of meat are served at the table until you say enough! Scheduled meetings, parties or general meetings We Brazilians also have difficulty arriving at the exact combined schedule. Business meetings, 15 to 30 minutes late are acceptable. We always start the meeting with jokes, talking about football, politics and laughing at our own mistakes as Brazilians and there is no time to finish Parties always arrive 1 hour late is correct and there is no time to end. best regards Only 1 or 2 kisses at most. Man never kisses man, until a little while ago, now that homosexual marriage has been legalized, this is already becoming common. Beach, pools and clubs Small Bikini for Women and Swimwear (Speedo) for Men Traffic We are champions of traffic accidents. Much because of the bad conditions of federal roads, but also because of speeding. We love a race, like Fast n Furius. Waiting line We've been worse, but overall if the front person gets distracted, he loses his place in line. Climate We also have the four seasons of the year in just one day, of course you can not ski in the snow because we do not have snow, but you can wake up and have breakfast in several clothes, lunch with a T-shirt and dinner with a sweater. Well this occurs only in the South and Southeast of Brazil, already in the north and northeast is heat 365 days a year. Sport We love sports, volleyball, basketball, beach tennis, extreme sports and of course soccer. Mark, I love your videos, I'm going to Lebanon now in July !!! I'm going to take my Brazilian wife and children to see my homeland, I'm absolutely sure that they will love it, and their videos are helping them and many others to understand a little more about our unique culture. Congratulations!! P.S. I have many Lebanese uncles living in Quebec. Maybe you know them.
Thank you for all the information, my friend. That’s very kind of you to take the time. I’m currently researching and putting everything together. Coming soon!
A good healthy mixture is the best, tbh i think east asia's family relationships are alot healthier than it is in the middle east... Its like "the sweet spot"
There are still subcultures here in the U.S. and Canada that are collectivist. I’m of Acadian (aka Cajun) decent and the last name thing resonated with me alot.
Les Canadians anglais et américain sont pratiquement le même, they speak the same language and their ancestors are usually from Ireland and the uk, the same things, and have very similar cultures
The Arab world in general is so much into last names, not only Lebanon. Your last name spells out who you are and how well-off you maybe. Lebanon is a small country and families know each other. In the US or Canada you cant keep track of who is who unless they are extremely famous. Besides that, the last name does not mean that much to them! I think its not easy to compare an Arab country with north America. Its like comparing Apples 🍎 to Oranges 🍊
I'm curious about the concept of maturity in Lebanon. In western society if you don't get out of your family home, if you don't start your own story, an independent one, you are immature. How is that in Lebanon?
I am Lebanese. When I first met my husband he was uncomfortable with the Lebanese traditions. After 22 years he's used to it. This video explains my family perfectly!! 🇱🇧❤️
I was definitely born in the wrong country.. I've been saying that since I was a little kid. 46 year old American here and I would love to live the way Lebanese people do.. I've always been fascinated with their culture but I've also been falling for a Lebanese man in recent years which has made me want to learn even more

Here in Brazil, it is the opposite the waiter takes to bring the bill, even to show the public that the restaurant is crowded and good.
We have the famous BBQ, ie, different types of meat are served at the table until you say enough!
Scheduled meetings, parties or general meetings
We Brazilians also have difficulty arriving at the exact combined schedule.
Business meetings, 15 to 30 minutes late are acceptable. We always start the meeting with jokes, talking about football, politics and laughing at our own mistakes as Brazilians and there is no time to finish
Parties always arrive 1 hour late is correct and there is no time to end.
best regards
Only 1 or 2 kisses at most. Man never kisses man, until a little while ago, now that homosexual marriage has been legalized, this is already becoming common.
Beach, pools and clubs
Small Bikini for Women and Swimwear (Speedo) for Men
Traffic
We are champions of traffic accidents. Much because of the bad conditions of federal roads, but also because of speeding. We love a race, like Fast n Furius.
Waiting line
We've been worse, but overall if the front person gets distracted, he loses his place in line.
Climate
We also have the four seasons of the year in just one day, of course you can not ski in the snow because we do not have snow, but you can wake up and have breakfast in several clothes, lunch with a T-shirt and dinner with a sweater. Well this occurs only in the South and Southeast of Brazil, already in the north and northeast is heat 365 days a year.
Sport
We love sports, volleyball, basketball, beach tennis, extreme sports and of course soccer.
Its like "the sweet spot"
hhhh ,so funny, will i see you next month in montreal ?
There are still subcultures here in the U.S. and Canada that are collectivist. I’m of Acadian (aka Cajun) decent and the last name thing resonated with me alot.
All of that can be honest about Iranian people too !!! that's kind of funny😂
Mark plz do one comparison with spicy Mexico
Les Canadians anglais et américain sont pratiquement le même, they speak the same language and their ancestors are usually from Ireland and the uk, the same things, and have very similar cultures
Actually, the Americans have more roots in Germany than the uk
According to the last study I read, the predominant ancestry dna in the US is German. Of course this might be changing.
I love your content your voices is very attractive with all the respect to your beautiful wife ❤
I see a lot of similarities between lebanese and brazilian culture ♥️
Lotsf brazilians are from lebanese origins due to immigration ..much love
@@christelleazzi1735 actually I think latinamerican culture is almost the same of Lebanese, not just Brazil. Btw, I love that
The Arab world in general is so much into last names, not only Lebanon.
So true
You the man Mark.. Most of these points apply to the Middle East in general haha!
I'm curious about the concept of maturity in Lebanon. In western society if you don't get out of your family home, if you don't start your own story, an independent one, you are immature. How is that in Lebanon?
Lmao at shish taouk part. I’m in tears 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
I am Lebanese. When I first met my husband he was uncomfortable with the Lebanese traditions. After 22 years he's used to it. This video explains my family perfectly!! 🇱🇧❤️
Maaaan u make me laugh soooo much
Ur 100% right as always i am lebanese after all
Thank u for making my day ❤️
Oh my where have you been? I missed you 👍💗
I was definitely born in the wrong country.. I've been saying that since I was a little kid.
46 year old American here and I would love to live the way Lebanese people do.. I've always been fascinated with their culture but I've also been falling for a Lebanese man in recent years which has made me want to learn even more
Love it!
all the things that you mentioned about Lebanon is same in Turkey too 😬😀
Why do I think it's now between America and whole other part of world?
Asia's similar with what you have just discussed there.❤
Omg Ur so funny i cry so truth 😂😂😂😂
