Referring to the elements of the face as individual components will make drawing portraits harder.

Great explanation Tony, simplifying features as shapes and tones and constantly checking the shapes in conjunction to other shapes to make sure its in the right spot and size are game changers for me in learning how to do portraits! Thank you!
