Wow this was a lot of fun and easy to follow their explanations. I love when the manufacturers really breakdown their tech. It takes it from just sounding like a cool marketing term to a full understanding on why something is done and how it benefits consumers. They have some really cool information. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford a pair of bookshelves but even if that never becomes the case I’d love to just hear some of these products.

@17:50 the only subwoofer that has managed to disappear, and be inside musical tracks, instead of alongside it, are Rythmik subwoofers. I've yet to experience any other sub with high SPL that blends that beautifully. It's great Perlisten is aiming for the same goals. It's a very challenging one to achieve.
I loved it, very beautiful speakers also the engineering and love that has gone into these speakers is awesome, I always love the content you put out great systems and just so informative!!!! One of my favorite channels to watch!!!

@28:20 I believe Dan was involved in the XTZ Cinema M8 speakers and he probably thought: why settle for three tweeters when you can have 6 :P. I love my M8 speakers - insane dialog clarity!
I think it's interesting that the midrange domes are the same size as the tweeter. How does that create a lower frequency than the tweeter? I would expect it to have less midrange than a speaker that uses a 4 or 5 inch mid range cone.
They are probably just 3 tweeters. It looks very much like a copy of what MK Sound use in their legenday S150 series. It´s not a new design, it has been used in THX certified studio monitors (by MK Sound) for the past 25 years. The way he explaines it sounds so much like the white paper from MK Sound, I´m pretty sure it´s just a neat copy of their trusted design. The use of 3 tweeters enable the cutoff to the woofer to be lower than the usual 2khz. Thus calling it midrange.
Copying a design that is trademarked or patented would not be smart. It certainly could be inspired by another speaker design. “There’s nothing new under the sun.”
@@janthomassrensen1065 I hear one of their engineers was part of the original M&K company. You can definitely see the influence. It look like these guys have taken it to whole new level.
Any reason to sell through dealers rather than directly from factory? It was just a bit annoying trying to get info on pricing and whatnot but regardless these are some amazing endgame speakers for sure
Honestly RJ, I’m not sure why certain brands choose that model. Companies like McIntosh an Anthem choose to do that as well. Part of that might be to ensure that they get set up properly
It's also based upon target clientele. The folks buying these will generally "have a guy" who they call to get them their stuff and don't care what the cost is. That's how the dealer market works. How most CI target companies work.
I found this video very interesting as I just purchased the D215S. This will be my endgame subwoofer. It is good to know the details behind the subwoofer. I plan to get the D212S for nearfield. Nice work.
@@Youthman - I was not planning on this purchase, but it fell in my lap. After viewing SpareChange and Audioholics reviews, it was a no brainer. Your video has just taken all doubt about buying the subwoofer. Thank you.

JTR’s measure extremely well also. They very well might be able to achieve it. It just costs a premium for the license and I don’t see that license converting into sales for JTR.
It’s difficult to compare to brands when you cannot listen to them in the same room to compare them. I can say both make incredible products. JTR is definitely more industrial looking but if cosmetics are not important, they certainly offer a high performance / value proposition

I personally have not been super impressed with the Revel demos I have had. There’s no such thing as a musical speaker. It’s either a well designed speaker or it’s not. It can’t be good for music and not good for movies. Or good for movies and not good for music.
@@Youthman musical I meant as , is it good for music as well as movies. Yes totally agree that it should reproduce everything properly. Pardon as a musician of 40 years I tend to refer to things as musically. Not in the silly hifi manner. Thank you for the reply. The revels also measure well. What differences did you notice from the revels and the perlistens if you don’t mind me asking? Thank you once more
do we see new speaker coming to your hometheater..?..what do you think of the perlisen brand over the brand of subwoofers you have now ..?...great video .
The only way to know would be to have (3) S5m and a pair of their D215s in my room to compare. Not likely to upgrade to Perlisten as they would be twice the cost of what I have now.
@@Youthman It has nothing to do with quality. Why is it when people, like me mention China, the response is about quality? Its about communism, child labor, fair and livable wages. I was interested in these speakers until I learned they are made in China and the price of these speakers(expensive) does not reflect the cost of being Chinese made. A bit disappointing
I get it. Unfortunately the reality is everyone wants American made but they don’t wanna pay American made prices. So unfortunately a lot of businesses are forced to manufacture overseas. There is a high probability that your TV, appliances and electronics in your home, the clothing you wear and the computer or mobile device you are using to comment on this post were made in China. Nothing wrong with wanting to support American Made products, but most that make a fuss about it are not consistent with the rest of their purchases.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Due to the high cost, that likely is not in the future for my home theater. I am saving up for our 25th wedding anniversary this June. If I did, I would get (3) S5m Monitors to keep the tweeters and midrange close to ear level, (4) S4s surrounds and their new Atmos speakers when they come out.
They seem to be quite high quality but a couple things concern me. You would think being made in China that the pricing would be more reasonable. When someone compares pound for pound and quality Perlisten is quite a bit more expensive than others. I.e. Kef, Polk, Canton, Klipsch, Arendal, etc....... I looked at a subwoofer spec....... D12s......they mention -10 db and -6db numbers. Why? They are fluffed numbers. Why not show the truest output spec of -3db?? Its really an insult to fellow audiophiles. Odd they would think that's a good idea to list the specs that way. I have a pair of Canton 890.2 speakers I got new and shipped for $2100. GERMAN MADE, 63lbs. Their comparison R5t towers....7k! 58lbs. Pair of Kef r11's can be had for $4800....83lbs.....etc.
I think you are onto what I believe is a pure hoax. Decent speakers priced to make people believe they are better than they are. I’ll take my money elsewhere.
If they need to capture market , they should make affordable speakers that could beat manufactures like Kef, Golden Ears and martin logan in price range .
The reason prices are not provided is because they deal through dealers. You have to contact a dealer to get prices. The same thing you will find with McIntosh, Sonus Faber etc. Ballpark estimate is $7,000 - $9,000 per speaker.
These speakers look like serious business, but even their "entry level" R series cost about $30k just for the 5.2 set of speakers and subs, not including electronics for amplification and processing which could easily be another $3-5k in the lower price range. This is completely out of reach for 99% of people. However, when you consider spending $10k on a system that won't come close to this level of performance, then maybe upgrading years down the road, I can see Perlisten as truly end game in terms of being the last system you would ever want to buy.
Keep in mind, Perlisten doesn't really offer an "entry level" speaker. The R Series is more affordable than the S Series but it's still a considerable financial commitment. Their target customer is not the mass market like SVS, Klipsch etc. It would be extremely difficult to introduce a new brand and try and compete with those brands. They are smart to introduce their speakers in this mid-tier level as there is much less competition. I say mid-tier because there are plenty of brands that can run $100K - $250K for just a single pair of speakers.
@@Youthman That makes sense. Thanks for putting it in perspective. I was just thinking out loud... and maybe trying to talk myself into buying something like this as long as it's "the last pair of speakers I ever own", LOL. One question I have to ask you, if you've heard them, do you think the Arendal 1723 towers compete with the Perlistens in terms of quality or value? Just asking because those are more within reach for me.
The only experience I have had with a ren are their subwoofers try cannot comment on how the speakers compare. Also it’s difficult to compare speakers unless they’re in the same room and being reviewed at the same time
While these guys appear to have a nice product, I’m predicting problems for them. The marketing strategy of relying on distributors and brick and mortar stores allows them to only touch a tiny fraction of the real marketplace. When I went to their website there was no price structure. Always a huge red flag for me. They also appear to be really smart guys, but they have a little bit of an air of assumption that people will seek them out because we will somehow magically jump through hoops to buy their products. Well, without a good idea of what things will cost,(and I assume that the aire of superiority will drive their prices high) I’m not even going to pursue them. When I research to buy items, these guys are just too difficult to deal with, and I hate dealing with a dealership or distributor, I want more cost effective items, and I don’t want to pay for 3 stages of middlemen that add zero value to my purchase. I’m out.
@@Youthman I’m confused by your comment. Are these speakers available via Best Buy? The ones I have were not. Thiels in my listening room, and Bowers Wilkins in my theatre, with custom active feedback subs in a sand enclosure mounted on concrete pedestals. I’m not saying or implying that everything needs to be mass marketed, I just am saying that the brick, mortar, dealer, distributor business model has been largely crushed by the internet. When I do give a dealer type store the benefit of the doubt to check things out, I can’t stomach the unknown quantities of details that I have to turn over to someone that I don’t really trust because their entire business model is built upon inefficiency, even if their products are amazing and their knowledge is excellent. That’s how this industry got into 25000 dollar turntables and wire that costs 200 dollars a foot. Adding line conditioners to devices that don’t even use a/c power past the initial transformer. If crutchfield would carry them, then we would have something…. At least I could access them, research them better, and make a decision based on price if I wanted to proceed. Hell, I would even buy them from a dealer, no problem…. But in the meantime the ability to research these is pretty sparse.
I used to always called it "timber" as well. Google Timbre and you will find, "The fact that timbre comes from French influences its pronunciation: it is often pronounced \TAM-ber\ and, with a more French-influenced second syllable, \TAM-bruh\."
Emotiva [Jade design] and SVS Sound both have roughly the same annual revenue [~$10 MIL USD], employee size [~ 30 employees] and are located in the midwest. This could be a merger opportunity there for direct sell to there faux audiophile market?

I wish they’d lower their prices a bit, i have no doubt they sound sublime but pretty much everything is above $7000 and for a new brand that’s just a little too high
Curious why a new brand would be required to create inexpensive products. If they can compete or beat brands in the same price bracket, there is no need to reduce their price. For those with lower budgets, they have the new R Series.
You can have a great speaker without being THX certified. But with Perlisten being a brand-new speaker line, it was incredibly smart of them to be the first to receive THX Dominus Certified. It gives them immediate credibility. Also, Dan Roemer has designed many speakers and subwoofers on the market today.
Love America speakers especially subwoofers as far as home cinema goes...Hence I've been running 2 reference M&K MX 5000s for 20 years now so I'm a bit familiar with the topology of this lovely subwoofer ... Can't wait to see the new offerings from M&K Dominus subs especially as all major film studios including DTS, Dolby and THX use M&Ks...
@@Youthman What you say is SO true that speakers and the THX certification that used to mean something, until THX sold its soul to anyone with the coin that wanted to stamp THX on their box. Pay the money, here’s your sign. Why would that be any different for the Dominus? My trust in THX is long gone.

Thank you once more
Wow! Amazing videos. Perlisten is a really special company. Really excited about their new affordable line of speakers
Glad you enjoyed the video Dave
do we see new speaker coming to your hometheater..?..what do you think of the perlisen brand over the brand of subwoofers you have now ..?...great video .
The only way to know would be to have (3) S5m and a pair of their D215s in my room to compare.
Not likely to upgrade to Perlisten as they would be twice the cost of what I have now.
@@Youthman true they are pricy
amazing video
wish they were made in the usa
They have their own manufacturing plant in China so they can stay on top of quality control.
Whatever happend to klipsch new beast subwoofer?
I emailed them a few times last year asking about it but did not hear a response. I’m not sure
Dan, respect! 👏👍
Great video Michael! So are you thinking about switching out your JTR for the Perlisten?
@@Youthman do it! I bet that would be a killer setup!😬
@@Youthman THX dominus rated atmos speakers.. yup, finally something that can make it sound like Godzilla is in the room :)
My channel or Patreon needs to get a lot bigger for me to be able to afford a Perlisten Hone Theater. 🤣
@@Youthman what if money was no object, what would you prefer, JTR or Perlisten?
nice McIntosh amps!
For sure!
You can't go wrong with them. They also make some amazing speakers.
For such a so called ninch market, they're sure are a lot of fantastic speakers out there nowadays!🤪🤯😳 Great interview!😇
Thank you kindly Big J
What is the price and why their website doesn’t let me buy it?
Most higher end brands (McIntosh, Anthem, Paradigm etc) do not sell directly to consumers. They sell through dealers.
@Youthman So, how do we find a dealer? I called a few places I know with no luck.
Email ryan@ascendav.net. He will take care of you.
@Youthman Thanks, Michael.
Glad to help. Ryan is pretty great about responding to emails. Let me know if you do not hear from him.
Good video
Thank you kindly
Which speakers were you listening to!!!
Nice video interesting company 👍🏻
Thank you
They seem to be quite high quality but a couple things concern me.
Maybe someone from Perlisten can answer your question.
@@Youthman I may go and listen to their r-series. I live an hour away. Hopefully I can listen to them there
I would call to make an appointment as they aren’t really setup as a “demo store” per say
@@Youthman yep I would definitely do that wouldn't just show up there
I think you are onto what I believe is a pure hoax. Decent speakers priced to make people believe they are better than they are. I’ll take my money elsewhere.
If they need to capture market , they should make affordable speakers that could beat manufactures like Kef, Golden Ears and martin logan in price range .
That’s what their R Series is for.
Cool
Prices would be nice. Spending 20 mins looking for a price drives some people nuts
The reason prices are not provided is because they deal through dealers. You have to contact a dealer to get prices. The same thing you will find with McIntosh, Sonus Faber etc. Ballpark estimate is $7,000 - $9,000 per speaker.
@@Youthman looking for dealers in Wisconsin?
is that a shock collar on the dog?
I just went online looking for them I found them to buy never mind a little too pricey for me 💯🤦♂️
I wonder who informed me regarding using only one speaker when evaluating a speaker's performance?🤔🤫😇 Amir and Sean Olive.😋
They likely learned it from others as well.
I believe Floyd Toole recommended that as well
@@Youthman
He's the person who invented this method with Sean Olive I believe.😉😇
Also it’s difficult to compare speakers unless they’re in the same room and being reviewed at the same time
Cool stuff WAY out of my price wheel house
Mine too but still super fun to demo
I’m out.
Nothing wrong with buying your speakers from Best Buy.
Never heard it called tambre or tamber. Just familiar with timbre or someone yelling "TIMBER!!!" when a felled tree's about to fall on your head.😁😁
I used to always called it "timber" as well. Google Timbre and you will find, "The fact that timbre comes from French influences its pronunciation: it is often pronounced \TAM-ber\ and, with a more French-influenced second syllable, \TAM-bruh\."
Will Audio Advice sell PerListen?
Emotiva [Jade design] and SVS Sound both have roughly the same annual revenue [~$10 MIL USD], employee size [~ 30 employees] and are located in the midwest. This could be a merger opportunity there for direct sell to there faux audiophile market?
the molding alone and digital printers making this stuff must be $$$$. Wonder where their financing is coming from?
You would have to ask Perlisten.
I have always encouraged SVS Sound to get into the multichannel amplifier business.
I can get a perlisten 9.2 package for NZ $117,845.00 😱
These guys are enthusiastic but come off as regular guys.
They both are very down to earth, Hone Theater and 2ch enthusiasts at their core

None of y'all going say nothing about the DOG 🐕 JUST WALKING AROUND
We talk about the dogs several times in the video.
Are these all made in China?
Perlisten has their own manufacturing plant in China.
@@Youthman Thank you for the Reply!
Gladly!
The Perlistens look like mini Synergy horns.
From Danley Labs?
@@Youthman yes, with the midranges on the waveguide, placed for time alignment with the tweeter.
Gotcha. Danley makes some cool speakers. Most are designed for massive venues (concerts, stadiums etc)
Yup that’s the first thing I thought of what I saw the midrange/tweeter setup.
"Tactile ", "harmonic restoration" TAKE A 🥃 shit EVERY TIME THEY SAY THESE
Have fun with that.
👌👍😁
Looks like it's out of the average consumers pocket range lol 😆 but looks nice to at least look at
Yes they are above my budget as well but like you said, still fun to enjoy.
As much as I found the THX certification relevant (because there was nothing else) in the 90s, today I no longer bring much credibility to it.
“Tamber?”
Some say Timber, some say Tamber.
