Sorry to disappoint but Bruce's vox had to be duplicate and then overdubbed because of lack of reaction from the crowd. Steve Harris gotcha! And in the SoTC, Bruce ascending on the cross was not shown because of poor visual of the whole.
I mean it's good that they're being sensitive to people's feelings and reassuring them that the song is not about the KKK. Of course, with Iron Maiden, it could never be that. Iron Maiden is good people, besides being one of the greatest musical bands of all-time.
I'm nearly 60 now and have followed maiden for over 40 years. No other band gets my pulse racing and gives me goosebumps like seeing these guys live. Can't wait till July to see them again in London.
I´m a little over 40, and Brave New World was the first album that i bought, 23 years ago. I still love it just as much as in the first day. Sadly, i never saw Iron Maiden live...
Bruce's vocals need no introduction, but it's not often that Adrian, Dave, And Janick each get a solo. Steve's bass work is impressive and Nico is just being Nico (always on point, and have a great time in the process). This is the first time I've heard this version and it surely won't be my last. Thanks Doug (and your subscribers who recommended this).
SO this song comes from the Rock in Rio live Album/DVD. the DVD never got a remaster but the the Live CD did. it was rereleased in 2015 with in my ears a better overall mix. i can highly recommend the live double CD. it was the first live Maiden i bought. i was amazed by it. when i first bought it, and i had to buy the remaster version as well as my old double cd had scratches on it so it had a few ticks.
This is, in my humble opinion, Maiden's best live album. I have never had a sense I've missed out quite so much as when I watched the DVD, and regardless of how many times I have seen Maiden (I think I'm at 17 times now, I lost count), I still wish I could have been there. I highly recommend listening to the whole album, or watching the whole DVD if you have time. It really is an excellent performance from beginning to end.
@@Matakoshi i Agree. to me its often a toss up on Rock in Rio 2001 or Beast over Hammersmith as best double cd albums. thats why i say its a pitty/shame that the DVD never got a remaster. its outdated for me.
One of the all-time greatest Iron Maiden songs; Top 10, easily. On a lesser note this song to me is vindication for the much-maligned Blaze Bayley as the great singer he was with the band. On a greater note, this song is pure progressive and symphonic Metal at its finest. Besides being one of the greatest bassists ever, Steve Harris is such a songwriting genius and of course the very heart and soul of this legendary band. Iron Maiden was his baby from the beginning and he went through so many people just to fulfill his amazing vision for the band. I think he succeeded even beyond his wildest dreams. I know the RRHOF is an absolute joke but there is still no reason why Iron Maiden should not be inducted. Judas Priest finally got inducted last year. Now it's Iron Maiden 's turn. They deserve it no less than Priest did. 🤘🏻 Up The Irons!!!! 🤘🏻
Blaze Bayley had the impossible job of following Bruce Dickinson and the band did him no favours by refusing to downtune to accomodate his lower register. He's a very talented musician and his own solo stuff is great. How many people would ever have the balls to step into Bruce's shoes?
The scottish are British, too, so I think you mean the English! Also, the union between England and scotland was done on 30 April 1707, so when the usa got independence from Great Britain, that means England, scotland, and wales😜
Scotland is Scotland brother, not England (the tyrants in this particular situation) or Wales. Get a grip man. The past is ugly, don't try to make it otherwise.
I saw them on the 98 Tour with Blaze!! Great Song...and I saw them on this Tour in México City! "Futureal", "Sign of the Cross" are two awesome songs from the Blaze era to Bruce sings live!! ❤

Rock in Rio is their peak live performance imho, even if I like them more on their 80's era. But on this live everything was on point, especially Dave Murray, during the late 80s and 90s era he really stepped up, and created some insanely good solos. Bruce voice was also more phenomenal than usual in this show. Overall everyone was on point that night. Only downside is Adrian didn't get many songs to shine cause they still didn't completely figured out how to use 3 guitarists on the songs he didn't recorded.
This is the best performance of the song and still gets played today, I heard it live last year in Germany and expect to hear it again in Scotland this year
I first heard it with Blaze on the VXI tour back in 1998! Then in this concert back in 2001, as I was ata RIR, then on the 3 legs of Legacy of the Beast! A great song live!
This year’s tour is a new tour, they will be playing mostly Senjutsu and Somewhere In Time tracks, so maybe they’ll play Death Of The Celts, but don’t expect them to play The Clansman on this tour.

Can't believe it's been 22 years since this show, first time I saw Maiden live. Amazing concert.
This song and that live show leaves no doubt how important Bruce is to Maiden. You need to have heard and have lived with the Blaze version for several years... then to hear that epic chorus. Just amazing.
Love the Steve used an acoustic bass guitar on parts of this song. Saw then play this on tour in 2003. Loved the backdrop behind Nico of Eddie with a claymore!!
Thanks for doing such awesome videos on Maiden, Doug. Growing up, I had Rock in Rio on dvd and CD and the two discs on the dvd were both pictures of all those 250,000 people that were in attendance there. Great performance. Since you cover the end of Bruce's hiatus, it would be really neat to see you cover some of Raising Hell performance , his last show before departing for so many years and entering into the Blaze era... Man , seeing this reminds of all those times I've seen them live, and the crowd performance here in Rio must have been a religious experience for some! Everyone chanting....what a wild show!
Great video as usual. One of the best band performances (in my opinion). 250 000 fans. Awesome show. I recommended seeing the full show. Greetings from Slovakia.
Hello there, this song is by far one of my favourites, alongside the Sign of the cross, both of which I was able to hear live on their last tour. Just epic. My voice was dead after it, I sang it all. Cheers.
Blaze is vastly underrated. Sure, his time in Maiden had its flaws (though I do love the albums, but his live performances were rather disappointing). However, prior to Maiden he was AMAZING in Wolfsbane, and his solo albums just rock so hard. He has also collaborated with many people, for instance with Thomas Zwijsen in an acoustic project or two. I've listened to all his releases (including live albums in Wolfsbane and solo) and I must say it is a big mistake to judge Blaze only by his time in Maiden. That being said, Bruce nailed this song, of course.
@a carbon based lifeform the problem with Blaze live, is that Maiden didn' t tuned down to fit his range to not alter the songs, which lead Blaze to struggle too high for his tessiture
I try, but I just can’t get into the two Blaze albums. His vocals are fine, but the material is uninspired, and Steve Harris had free reign to write bloated, boring songs... Just my opinion, Up The Irons...
I played my acoustic bass(the same one Steve plays live currently, not in this concert)along with you Doug. I absolutely love this one. One of Maiden’s very underrated tracks.
Just got back from a trip to Edinburgh. London lad. This reaction was so amazing. They bring so much feeling and emotion to the songs they play. Always on a different level. Superb Doug
I first heard this on the virtual XI tour in Malta with blaze. This song stood out a mile from the other material. Great times watching maiden in the Mediterranean sun with several cold beers
It was not on the set list when I saw them last October, but was in Charlotte 2019, recorded it and still watch from time to time. Great song live, and here in NC Bruce had to explain that it was spelled with a C!
I was 16 when ‘Brave New World’ tour was happening. I went to my first bigger concert and it was for my favourite band. Having Dickinson back at this tour was also a blast. I still vividly remember the moment sitting on my best friend shoulders and screaming ‘Freeeeeedooooom’. One of the best moments of my life for sure. Up the Irons
You know what's brilliant.. Going back to your first maiden reaction before you knew what was going on.. You got the hooked... That's the maiden for ya!
This is the best performance of the song with Bruce singing, without a doubt. Brilliant epic tune. I saw this tremendous tune played live on the "Virtual XI tour" with Bayley. Big difference in favor of Bruce.
This brings back memories of watching this on dvd when I was a teenager. If you like the celtic feel get yourself into the band Big Country. Check out the song "the seer" has kate bush on backing vocals to boot!
When I saw them in 2019 he introduced the song by stating "For any Americans out here tonight filming this for RUclips, it's The Clansman with a 'c', not a 'k'". He then picked up a broad sword that he was using as a prop and yelled "Scream for me Toronto or I'll cut your balls off" !!!
While I like the RiR version I don't think I ever heard you analyzing a Blaze song sung by Blaze so it would be cool for you to give us your opinion on him sometime :) Love your channel
As far as I know you haven't got to The Legacy, Isle Of Avalon, The Talisman, or When The Wild Wind Blows yet..... you will not be disappointed, they are brilliant.
Freedom. Such an important word and meaning behind it. In these days, a very topical thing to sing about, as it was 25 years ago when Steve composed this. A very fine live song, get´s you pumped up every single time. No wonder why Blaze (speedy recovery) has it in his solo setlist too.
Hi Doug, you should react to a song called reach out by iron maiden, it’s a little different, because it’s Adrian Smith on vocals, and it’s a more Rock’n’Roll tune!!!
You should do something by Ghost. They're really big, and quite interesting, musically. I suggest Spillways, Cirice, Mary on a Cross, I Am, Darkness at the Heart of my Love, Life Eternal. There are many more, but that's a start. 😊
Sign of the cross is another song that you should listen to in its live form from this concert. Again its a blaze bailey error song that they played at rock in rio where they just took the song to another level
Doug, I think it is high time you reacted to the band Wintersun. Song is called Time. Absolutely most underrated metal band of all time. Btw, two of their former members play for Nightwish now. It's progressive, folky, technical, heavy, full of melodies and counter melodies. You'll love it!
Hooked on maiden from the first time I heard the sound house tapes in 1980 wow what a journey Sadly original was always my favourite with Blaze and then followed Wolfsbane and then his solo. career Bruce does his stamp on it and any maiden live concert you just enjoy the atmosphere UP the Irons long they may continue
Fabulous Video !!!! Just so you know, as a fellow British person.. People from Scotland are British. Britain is an island nation made up of 3 countries.. England, Scotland and Wales.. Called Great Britain... If you include Northern Ireland the we are called the United Kingdom.... The U.K. Keep up the good work I loved this video !!!
Yes, I noticed that. Britain either refers to Great Britain (the island), or the sovereign state (country) the United Kingdom. I have to correct you: Britain is not an island nation, but an island with three nations.
When the Wild Wind Blows is a must listen. It's one of Maiden's most progressive songs. The live version off of En Vivo is fantastic!
Yes, that should be the next Maiden Monday!
i agree, wonderful song
Progressive?
I always thought it sounded like it came straight from a stage musical.
Def should be a Doug review on wild wind!!
I've been saying this for months! Along with The Talisman.
One of their best live songs ever! The crowd goes crazy with the words “ Freedom”.
It should be "The illusion of freedom" that they sing because that's what we all live with.
@@mister_syre Freedom is not an illusion, it´s an ideal...
Sorry to disappoint but Bruce's vox had to be duplicate and then overdubbed because of lack of reaction from the crowd.
Steve Harris gotcha!
And in the SoTC, Bruce ascending on the cross was not shown because of poor visual of the whole.
When I saw them in 2019 when he introduced this song, Bruce said, "I want to emphasize this is The Clansman with a 'C'.
So, when did they change it?
When professional victims found that they have something to make something out of nothing
Yea they got some static from a certain crowd at one point.
I mean it's good that they're being sensitive to people's feelings and reassuring them that the song is not about the KKK. Of course, with Iron Maiden, it could never be that. Iron Maiden is good people, besides being one of the greatest musical bands of all-time.

Omg, that is absolutely top sport! Crazy.

Finally I’ve been waiting for this reaction
You know its a good song when Doug fires up the air drumming! Hell yeah brother!
A lovely suggestion and a lovely reaction! ⬆️ Fe
I was just thinking yesterday if you already reacted to this song before 😂 Nice 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yes, very Celtic and Nicko is always smiling and having a good time.
Thanks, Doug. Up the Irons!
Great IM video very emotional. Great reaction!
Powerslave is the song that you are looking for! Try it!
Insanely sweet song. Iron Maiden always were in my life and I love them so much.
Now, on to Death of the Celts!
Love the Maiden Mondays!
SKY OVERTURE by Uli Jon Roth!!!!!🎸
Great song! Great reaction! Thanks Doug!!
I was at this show. Rock in Rio III, Rio de Janeiro 19 january 2001.
Would be good to see you do a song with Blaze actually singing it! Fortunes Of War, The Aftermath, Educated Fool.... I could go on
My favorite song with Blaze on vocals is Edge of Darkness from the X-Factor album.
@@Xorgrim that is a great song. So many underrated tunes on both albums
Doug, I think it is high time you reacted to the band Wintersun. Song is called Time. Absolutely most underrated metal band of all time. Btw, two of their former members play for Nightwish now. It's progressive, folky, technical, heavy, full of melodies and counter melodies. You'll love it!
I was there, few meters from the stage. Best show of my life!
Hooked on maiden from the first time I heard the sound house tapes in 1980 wow what a journey
Sadly original was always my favourite with Blaze and then followed Wolfsbane and then his solo. career
Bruce does his stamp on it and any maiden live concert you just enjoy the atmosphere
UP the Irons long they may continue
Fabulous Video !!!! Just so you know, as a fellow British person.. People from Scotland are British. Britain is an island nation made up of 3 countries.. England, Scotland and Wales.. Called Great Britain... If you include Northern Ireland the we are called the United Kingdom.... The U.K. Keep up the good work I loved this video !!!
Yes, I noticed that. Britain either refers to Great Britain (the island), or the sovereign state (country) the United Kingdom. I have to correct you: Britain is not an island nation, but an island with three nations.
If you listen closely to the chorus Dave Murray is actually emulating a bagpipe on his guitar.
There's a cool 'guitar-as-bagpipes' section at 2:15 in this Steve Morse song: ruclips.net/user/shortst7LmQwzjdeA?feature=share
That's one of my favorites!
I´ve been in on the Maiden journey since the beginning and IMO, The Clansman is their sescond best song.
best maiden song! Doug is almost part of Iron Maiden fan family!
