I could definitely use the universal wrench on this. When I’m at a rehearsal, that will work on the bolts that hold a music stand together, to tighten it up. It could also probably fit some wing nuts, if you shove one end into the narrow end.
Good points! Never thought of this.
I’ve been wondering who has been over tightening and damaging the music stands.
I would place the universal hole at the other end of the tool. That way the extra metal of the pry isn't in the way.
@@maxlvledc those keychain 'pry bar tools' are nice little paint scrapers😄!
I only carry and use pry bars that are at least 8" inches in length, such as the STILETTO TrimBar5 Titanium pry bar.
I don't understand why every tool designer out there insists on mangling good designs with bottle openers. If you can't open a beer cap with a pry bar across your knuckles then you're too drunk anyway. You'd have a stronger prying section, and the 4mm hex hole would be centered instead of off to one side. Agree on the excessive branding text on tools too, that's just tacky.
I 100% agree
Or you can just buy cans and use the pry bar to pop the top if your nails are too short.
A bottle opener says "this tool is fun". It's a marketing thing, so you think about using the tool with your buddies. Generally they don't even open bottles well. So pointless
I don't understand why they don't make a subsided opener all you need is the piece that hooks the lid.
I have seen ones meant to turn a bit and that I can kind of see the point, bit otherwise it's a was are..
EDC pocket dump challenge: count how many bottle openers you have
My son, 22yr, picked up my pocket prybar just to fidget with it last time he was over, 5 days ago, and now it can’t be found anywhere. It is absolutely driving me nuts. I have been looking at new ones since and cannot settle on one. I’m so glad to find a review on the Olight from someone I have grown to trust. Thank you brother!
Owner of an Olight pry here: overall, I've found it to be just as handy and useful as ANY quality edc pry tool
... HOWEVER, there is an issue to be aware of. If you plan to carry one of these in your pocket, the stainless steel pivot that holds the bits in place, is always spinning on its own in my pocket, causing the bits to fall out. This has prompted me to stop using it and start looking for a replacement, as I feel it's only a matter of time before the bits end up lost. Originally I attempted to resolve the problem by using a small tactical rubber band, but the rubber band grips your pocket edge as you try to put it in, causing it to slide up defeating it's intended purpose. Truly a shame, as I own several other Olight products, and really really like them all (they get used and abused and continue to function beautifully)
Thanks for the heads up
@@johnmarston2616 By the looks of it, you can actually tighten the pivot if you remove the pocket clip, so it won't turn that easily. You can see the screw hole under the clip around 08:39 - 08:40
Just got mine and I think it's the perfect size for getting better leverage when prying! I don't see much use in a thumb size pry bar. The driver bits and housing are awesome and all in all a very well thought out tool. The pocket clip is a little light in its retention but other than that I love it!
I have found myself increasingly in need of a pocket carry pry tool. I like the looks of this one
Alternatively, lose the wrench and holes add 2 more double ended bits and keep the length. If you made it as described above and changed the retention piece to be a 3 way, made it slightly wider they could slot a 5th bit in there or, my preference would be a small bit extender.
the two hex slots you say are useless, are probably to put the screwdriver bits into, for more torque than the end bit, because it'll give you more leverage having the tool sideways
THANKS for reminding us of this 'extra torque' option!
I totally agree, great EDC pry! I used mine yesterday to do some knife maintenance on my son’s pocket knife. The bits fit perfect 👍🏽
Great video! I have found the best use scenario for the universal wrench slot to be for gas, oxygen, and some water shutoffs. These are often exposed and easy enough to get to, but arguably easier to turn with this tool than with the pliers on a basic multi.
So glad I picked one of these up. One of the only big things I got in the last sale.
After carefully evaluating the tools in this video, I ordered the one most useful of them all- the Omnigrid ruler. Thanks!
Hahaha, awesome!
Seems neat and the driver bit looks useful, but for my tool pouch the little 5" mini pry wins. It looks like a tiny crow bar which means it has better angles than these pocket prys, and the coating is good for marring until you wear the coating off, at which point a couple of thin plastic prys (or stout bass guitar picks) tucked in the back of the tool pouch do great
These are some nice tools for heavy duty prying. This O-pry seems to be the best value of this bunch. I might be worried about bit retention screw turning, and bits falling out......I agree the closed wrenches are mostly useless. Maybe they could put a diamond file on one side? The Nite Ize DoohicKey ratchet is more light duty...but for under $15 bucks....pretty good deal to mate with a multi tool. Keep up the great reviews!
I agree about the branding. I hate this even before knowing what EDC is, and many EDC products have excessive branding.
Since the wrench is already there, I'd try to come up with a good use for this space, maybe store something and wrap it.
At first I didn't think so, but the more I look at it, the more I agree. And to be fair, they all do it, it's just that there are quite a few who love to hate on O-Light. I have several of their products, and they work just fine and offer up a decent value.
I definitely agree olight really has there stuff together from there designs to fit and finish and especially the bundles and sales they have I'm definitely looking forward to that awesome give-away I'm a huge fan of olight gear
yeah Olight sales rock .. years ago i bought stuff & got a ir2 flashlight free ( i guess daddy to what you got ) .. i put it on my key-chain & 5 ( ish ) years later i still use it almost daily
I have one, as off today. And must say, I really really like it!
Nice vid!!!
You did it again!
I'll buy this!
Looks like a good prybar option. I like all the functionality (apart from the universal wrench, I tend to just use a Knipex Cobra for these kind of tasks).
Thanks for sharing.
Those is a REALLY well thought out design 👍
Awesome well made tool but I have never needed a pry bar in my pocket. I do carry a multi tool at times but my knife is 90% of all I need day in day out. Now if they added a utility knife blade to it I could certainly use it. Nice review.
Niteize makes a ratcheting one. One of my favorites is the Kershaw P2. Toor knives makes a really good stainless one with ceracoat, open end nut/bolt slots. For winter ice I edc one called the "Beast" from Squatch (Amazon) because the Phillips end is a good ice poker. Wallet Ninja is a good ice scraper. And don't forget the TSA friendly Gerber Shard....
OUTSTANDING review. You have another subscriber.....I think I'm gonna have to get this O-Pry.
Don't tell the wife.
Great review. Although I have never really needed a small pry bar, I do think they are a cool piece of gear. This one looks great and I do agree with you that a “mini” version would make a great option.
I agree with you...except for the issue of leverage. Maybe the redesigned tool would have enough for intended applications.
I went around the house looking for a nut to tighten with the uni-wrench. I found one on the coffee table handle. It really grabs on.
I didn’t find anything that I could pry open though.
With the Olight Opry Pro, they shortened it, got rid of the useless universal wrench and got rid of the useless 4mm extra holes. They added a whistle and improved the bit retention. Seem to address all your concerns except maybe the branding.
You could also use it to unloosen a screw cap on a bottle.
Crap! Now I need one! Agree whole-heartedly on the wrench thing…🙄, and for that matter, the bottle opener, too. I thought I remembered seeing another channel saying that Kizer is making their knives for them, but no clue on the tool.
It’s a nice pry bar, though.👍🏻
I agree. I bought one and it's HUGE. Not sure I will carry it.
I got one and I don’t mind the branding. One thing that I think is funny, and was pointed out by someone on the FB group, is the m’s in the “mm” are printed mirrored, LoL
Those holes are to give you more leverage using the bits to unloosen a tight screw.
Honestly working in a fabrication shop I have used the box wrench in some tight spots with another wrench on the bolt so that's probably the only case where it's useful otherwise I agree I could be omitted and still be a great tool
A fellow welder / fabricator. It’s nice to actually find another.
Olight is a great company and has excellent flashlights. I have bought many from them, and 5 star quality.
My big question about EDC pry bars ..... how often do people actually need a pry bar? I carry a heavy duty multitool every day for work, and have never thought that an EDC pry bar would suit my needs. If it suits you, all good, but personally I can never quite see the need. Once again, great video - thanks!
The people who really use it often are photographers, there are large flat head groves on every mount in existence! I use my constantly for that, for modding, and in many jobs it saves me from having to dig in with a nail very often. The other thing it is used for is opening packages so tape doesn't get on your knife.
Thanks - interesting to hear how useful these can be for people with different tasks to mine. Cheers!
@@maxlvledc I can see it being useful for a house painter to open cans of paint, as well. It would beat a flathead screw driver for that.
To me, it's not about using it all the time but to have it when I need it.
That being said I wouldn't carry one of these large pry tools unless it had a knife on it.
I have a Gerber Shard that's been on my keys for years now and came in handy many times. I use it for rough tasks to protect my knives.
It can also be taken on planes and into areas where knifes and therefore most multitools aren't allowed.
I understand the desire to shorten the tool but, you ARE compromising on other aspects of it by doing so: you're reducing the overall leverage of the tool and cutting into both rulers substantially. That trade off might be worth it for yourself, but for those that don't mind the length it's basically just downgrading the tool.
The two smaller holes up top aren't useless either, they're easily used as a wrench with the included bits. The lack of built in retention isn't even an issue, as you can push against the side of the bit that protrudes, locking it in place more than well enough to loosen a tight fastener or break some loctite. They also add a small degree of weight reduction to the tool, right now it balances at the end of the clip (pretty perfect) and filling them in would spoil a nice tough IMO.
Overall it's fantastic value though, definitely worth the cash.
Don't rule out Amazon: Olight runs sale pricing every now and then on there, I got my Baton 3 premium edition at sale price there, and was able to leverage Amazon's gift card top up bonus to get it even cheaper.
Looks amazing, might buy one
Found it in stock on Amazon. Looks like it's all out on their site
Mine came with a short length of paracord in the box. I believe that the two holes are for attaching a lanyard, though I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that. (Lanyard would get in the way of the screwdriver.) So, the holes have a use other than overtorqueing your drivers, it's just not a very well thought out one.
I like the silliness of the little smiley face.
Awesome tool
Those 2- 1/4” holes near the clip are for the screw driver bit so you can have more torque. It’s not a “nut-driver” but they are sockets for 1/4” drive bits
They are 4mm holes not 1/4", but yes you are correct about torque. The issue is that 4mm bits can't take that kind of torque anyway.
Think of the gap created by the closed universal wrench, and the other two little holes as weight reduction more than anything else.
I like the smiley face! You already said that it's an outstanding value, so why be "bothered" over a couple of holes (for eyes) and a smile below it? I have a Griffin pocket tool, and tbh, I usually forget I have it at all. First time I used it, the metal (brass) deformed on the "pry" side. The Griffin Ti "Original" versions run $45 plus shipping, and you get a lot less utility - so much so, that all I really use it for is to hang my keys from my pocket, eliminating the 5/16" Hex hole (gotta affix the key loop somehow!). You're right, this is a great value, and I will be ordering one.
.
:)
Agree, good value vs the competition.
It's made by a chinese company called Tacray. I think my biggest issue with the Opry is 1) it's size, and 2) the little rotating closure holding the bits in place has too much potential to have them fall out if it gets rotated in the pocket, which Ive seen is starting to happen to every day users of this thing. Having riveted edges with rubber gaskets in addition to it would be a nice 2nd level of security to keeping those bits in place
Agreed, it's not beating the slidekick imo
yes, opens up on its own and the bits come out in my pocket at least twice a day.
Love my opry having said that I had to sand smooth that bead blast finish to get it to take an ano and that damn little tab over the screwdriver bits keeps flipping in my pocket and dropping the bits.
I love not having the magnets, that's ingenious. I know I can't be the only guy who ends up with a ton of little shavings stuck in everything that's going to magnet on it.
hi thanks for the review. I just get mine last week for 50€ here in France. Very pricey compare to other brand. Here we have a very limited acces to edc stuff and when we have is always at high price compare to USA.
Pricey compared to which one? I've never seen one that does these things for this price.
Great looking tool.
Would you rather see a differant feature in place of the universal wrench or just make the whole thing shorter.
Mike
More storage would be nice.
Maybe the holes are for a lanyard.
If it was smaller it wouldn't have the same leverage strength for the pry. I understand how the wrench is not useful, last time I needed one on the fly this design wouldn't have reached the hex nut. Perhaps the same length and a single 6mm bit going across ways with Philips#2 bit would be better?
£50 in the UK which is 62 bucks at the present exchange rate! I can buy a Leatherman Bond or a Victorinox Swisschamp for that (if I shop around online for the best price) so I'll pass. But great review, I really appreciate the fact that guys like you buy these items to help us decide how to spend our money! Thanks.
That's the idea! Sometimes it's a NO, which is still a good thing
@@maxlvledc Exactly! RUclipsrs like you have helped me a lot to buy some great gear.
I own the Leatherman Bond: it has most things I would need and leaves off 'frills' that are 'nice to have' but add bulk. The problem with multi-tools other than this Olight is PRYING something. BLADES are not designed to PRY. They tend to SNAP.
@@jamesellsworth9673 That's true about prying, I'm always amazed to hear/read about people breaking knives using them a pry bars. If you need to do that then it's a good idea to buy a pry bar but not for £50! As to the Bond it doesn't have scissors and a saw which some may see as essential but Victorinox do the best scissors and their saws are as good as Leatherman, or better in the case of the one on my Rebar. So if I get the Bond I'll pair it up with a Vic anyway, the Climber for urban EDC or the Farmer X if I want a saw too.
Dominic, you talked about modifying the end of the prybar because it is too thick and rounded. You already did it? can titanium be filed away as if it were normal steel? I recently got an Opry, and I must admit that I would prefer the tip a bit sharper and less rounded, to use it also as a scraper
The problem with converting it into a scraper is that it becomes too sharp to pocket easily.
I’d use one of the 4mm bit drivers for a small lanyard, but the lack of a small nail pulling slot may knock it out for me. Not absolute, but it is a drawback.
Another thing about the universal wrench is that i feel loke its facing the wrong way on almost all these types of tools. The larger holes usually face away wich means u have to push the tool into the nut instead of pulling i know its a nitpick but still just another way its less useful
Wait! Your right! I missed this 🤦
Yea the ball detent is in the clip and be careful if you take the clip off that insert with the ball detent will fall out.
I agree, they need to make an Opry 2.0 and remove that universal wrench. The clip is a little weird, a more basic cleaner clip would look much better.
The 2 holes are 4mm hex wrench holes, I would have thought they would be very useful at times. 🤷♂️
Nope, you have to hold the bit...and putting that much pressure on a 4mm bit will 100% break them
@@maxlvledc I suppose that is true for the finer tipped bits, would you say it's the same for, say, torx or alien key type ended bits? I have not had much use of 4mm bits to be honest.
@@DracoWolfsbane I've torn out the sides of torx bits from too much torque maybe with really high quality ones you reduce the chances of that happening but I dunno. Allen/hex might work but they also don't have an hex bits on them and you'd still be pressing them in with your thumb which would be very uncomfortable.
@@gnomersy1087 well, that sounds fair enough. You have more experience by the sound of it so I will take your wisdom on this. Cheers for the info!!
Yea..! Giveaway time, then again we're too far away. No probs. Great vid mate.
It will go international, all I ask is to pay the difference in shipping
this looks great but is the clip permanently on there? i didnt see any exposed screw holes for it and for me personally it would just get in the way and add unnecessary bulk. that being said the thing with the detent ball potentially being a part of the pocket clip is kinda cool and kind of annoying. Overall a great video! thanks
I think the clip holds in the ball detent...if not I would also remove it...will try it!
You should check out Eos pry bars they have a few different styles and flamed titanium made in USA under 50 give or take
I saw that! Not a huge one piece pry person
I would use the universal wrench for my boat battery terminals and solar charger....
I think a pry bar is a useful tool, but only as a pry bar and nothing else. No holes or cut outs and the ability to hit the pry bar with a hammer if need be. If I want to have a multi tool, then I would have a separate item for that.
You deserve more subscribers 🇺🇸💪🏾
Ty!
What do y'all carry a pry bar for?
I've never understood that as part of a carry.
They're cool tbh, but I can't think of any situation I've been in that it would be useful.
I used it quite a bit when I was moding things regularly. Also I use it a ton on various jobs I had.
@@maxlvledc Fair enough
1:10 - make those 4mm bits double ended and now you have twice the choices.
What make and model is that, anyway?
Wish the slidekick was still in production!
Me too! 😭😭😭
When or how often do they put on a sale? They are out of stock currently but u say wait for a sale to get bonus stuff and i just wanted to know when the best sale times are? Thanks in advance and Thanx for the great content! Keep up the great work
They havn't announced mays yet, but it's coming toward the end of the month
@@maxlvledc Thank you- i await anxiously; and i hope their stock replenish's. Thank you for the info and taking the time to reply
Don't confuse that with olight's new pan. The O-Fry.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great review 👍🏻 didn’t mention the ruler 📏 inch and mm on each side
Truth
great video thanks for sharing! i would’ve loved to pick one up.olights branding is terrible!! at least it isn’t the horrible hot wheels logo on the knives..definitely waiting for another sale.
Checked your link for Amazon for the pry bar and it is not available and they don't know when or if it will be back. Also tried the Olight store and there is no listing for it.
Noo! Sucks...
i've been looking at all kinds of multitools for years. the problem is that every multitool carries something that can be construed as a knife, no matter how ineffective. i had a multitool banned at universal studios because the was a "knife" in it. i'm sure the pry bar would be interpreted as a chisel blade knife point by some bureaucrat.
🙄
They shouldn’t have put holes in it and have longer bits (that would fit the longer slots that could be there with out the holes. And I’d like some length on it for leverage (that’s what she said) kool tool/kool video Brotha
Can you not use those 2 holes at the head to twist lengths of wire together?
Genius idea!
So does olight have a certain periods/dates that they hold sales?
It varies
EDC for life!
Would you please test the universal wrench
I'm still trying to find a nut to use it on lols!
How about a bicycle?
Hail, Maxlvledc! We who are about to pry salute you!
I just had to say that.
O Pry really is a terrible name, though.
What is the name of the tool that has the bits in the sliding pocket with the N on it?
It's the Novelcarry Slidekick
I believe that this tool is £50 here in the UK and I wont spend that amount of something like this.
I think I remember someone saying that Olight and ruike have the same parent company. I don't think that people should be as sprung on titanium as they are. It has its uses and so does aluminum, but steel is the true miracle material.
Ruike and Fenix are the same, olight is separate
@@maxlvledc Thanks!
I guess you could argue those two extra holes are for lightening.
Yeeep
I use those wrenches on mountain bikes
I wonder how that internal wrench would work as a shackle key?
Shackle key?? No idea
@@maxlvledc Used in sailing and rigging.
ruclips.net/video/U-gMMYDM81Y/видео.html
5:18 they should not get rid of the tip, but have it on the opposite side
This is an exact copy of the Tacray pry bar. I knew I've seen this before.
Actually I check, it's not an exact copy. The tacray has no inline driver. However it's likely made by them.
If they shrink the prybar, you won't be able to get as much Torque. Also, the holes are for lashing.
Good points
Or you could put more screw driver bits in place of the wrench
Maybe I missed it but where is it made?
China, it's a fair assumption that anything made in Ti this cheap is made in China.
Is vero engineering owned bye bestech or did bestech make them and ship them to vero to put there name onto?
Bestech is the oem
BESTECH is the OEM, Vero designed...I can say from experience that the items I have had from BESTECH are some of the highest quality I've ever held.
I think I would have gone with Pry-O 🤔
When are the sales? I don't have anything by olight yet.
Monthly. If you join the FB group you’ll know ahead of time
Last one was their 15 year sale...nothing on this month yet.
How many times has you said “dang I wish I had a mini pry bar in my pocket” YEA NEVER.
I havent used a can opener in 25 years and as for a pry bar, Maybe twice in 15 years. I dont see any value in it unless you are a bartender or maybe a painter, and that is assuming its thin enough to open a gallon of paint.
I have a request: a video of someone actually prying with pry tools. Please include prying with the flathead on a 91mm Victorinox...
Ooo, good video idea.
T6 and t8? Why not t10 and t15 or t15 and t20? Those are the most common I believe
Kizer makes their knives I wonder if they do their pry tools as well ?!?
Don't think so, kizer could do better.
I'm gonna play devil's advocate on this one, despite not being a big fan of olight by any means I might add, that perhaps-- PERHAPS-- the two 4mm holes by the stickman are ideally for a lanyard? I dunno, just food for thought
]]
Your the 3rd person to mention the lanyard, you may be right
Its not advertised as a universal wrench its advertised as a 14mm wrench.
I would rather not have the bolt wrench and instead have 2 more double sided bits.
Agreed
