    my dude that is not a bit holder (the Dewault) that is a driver for 1/4" hex screws. You can for purposes of getting more perfect grip on various screw head types actually put screw in then hammer other end while screw tip is on hard object and that magnet will slide down, if u look the end of that is a 1/2 inch, the depth for screw is only 1/8th and so is magnet. any who, thats not a bit holder just FYI. great videos, always enjoy the things you find to show us

    So far its stopped me from likely getting mugged, made me look good in front of my college instructors, and helped me fix a thousand small issues)
    If you dont carry anything, I'd reccomend keeping a small knife alongside your wallet, it doesn't seem like it'd be useful often, but when you have it on you 24/7 "often" only has to happen once or twice for it to start paying off

    In my opinion the best edc i have found is a bic lighter (or zippo if your fancy and remember to fill it). A quality pocket knife. A mini blade screw driver and a quality flashlight. I think those four items can do 99% of the daily tasks I need. But anyway good video showing options

I’m no McGuyver, so I’d die pretty fast if my life depended on me assembling and using one of those kits. They’re also useful for lockpicking kits.

    • @HipposHateWater

      I have an instinctual gag reflex anytime I see those. Especially the ones you'd see with the kit included in a hollow "survival knife" handle, right where the the tang should be. Granted, stuffing the little bits and bobs into a separate pill box and using a normal knife with an actual tang as a separate device would solve all of my misgivings, but it's still a several decade long conditioned response lol

    • @barmstrong25

      @@evanf1443 To me it is common sense even for basic self defense. If you're wearing something that can get huge up on or used as a weapon against you. It is just my opinion I've been doing martial arts for over 30 years. This is why I would not use a paracord neck knife laynard without quick release connectors. This is why some knife companies use chains for knife laynard because they can break before being strangled. Do what you want it is a free country for now.

    • @evanf1443
      @evanf1443 2 года назад +1

      @@barmstrong25 I think we can agree to disagree. Even in self defense that sort of thing is unlikely since it often goes underneath my shirt anyway and if I’m in a self defense situation I’m going to cheat, a lot. I’ve spent over a decade practicing martial arts myself and in my experience someone is just as likely to try to choke you using your shirt or jacket as anything else, so wearing a necklace isn’t going to cause me any undue concern.

      @barmstrong25 2 года назад +2

    My EDC pocket knife is a Kershaw 1920 Select Fire. It has a very nice and beefy blade with no serrations. It holds a great edge and sharpens fairly readily. But it fits this video because it has a swing out arm with a 1/4" socket driver. 4 bits are in spring secured, swing out bit holders. It comes with two flat and two Phillips bits, but it'll work with any single ended bits. There's a very short ruler on the swing arm, and the recess it closes into is a bottle opener. Costs about $35, and has a nice strong pocket clip.
    I'm trying to find a good field knife sharpener. I've tried several. So far, the Work Sharp Field Sharpener is good for my needs. It has two diamond plates, coarse 220 and fine 600. There's a large ceramic rod that rotates to show a coarser and finer surface for honing. There's a very small ceramic rod for sharpening serrations. But the best part is the narrow but serviceable leather strop pre-saturated with green stropping compound. The whole thing is lightweight and compact, and works great on just about anything.
    I have and carry that Titanium tape measure on a shot bead chain around my neck asking with a tiny 550 lumen RovyVon flashlight with a glow in the dark blue case. One of the light modes is a UV blacklight that makes a good night light that doesn't destroy your night vision.
    I always have a small Fresnel lens in my wallet for emergency fire starting. If I have my bag, though, I have several fire starting tools and kinds of tinder.
    I have an odd EDC tools, a Covert Companion lockpick set. I'm a sport lockpicker, so it's fun. But if I must get through a lock, I have the tools.
    Instead of the bit vault, I have the Budi stick. Holds 6 microSD cards, two phone SIM cards, a short data and charge cable, with a full set of adapters, a microSD reader/writer, and a SIM tray tool. The other end is a small phone stand. It's a little longer than that bit vault, but it has more features.

    I like the idea of such a small ferro rod. My first thought was for that size you could attach it to a lanyard hole on a knife or sheath. Loop it though like a zipper pull so you can take it off easily and strike it with your knife spine.

    Stuff like the tape measure isn't necessarily key-ring material, but key rings don't have to be the only thing you might attach small tools to. Rather than having a box or pouch for small tools that you keep in a backpack, it strikes me that having a ring for your small tools, perhaps with short cable extensions on some of them, would be a good way to make sure you can't easily lose individual tools just because you've opened their container. You could even attach the ring to your belt (loop) or a backpack strap and use the jangling to forewarn bears and such when out on a trail.

    I realize this video is a year old, and I'm behind the curve here, but my EDC is a Milwaukee Fastback with the screwdriver end. I'm an electrician, and a knife of some sort is almost mandatory, the screwdriver end is a nice bonus for when I climb up a ladder and forget my Klein screwdriver, I just pull out the knife and open the junction box or whatever instead of having to go back down to my tool cart.
    I found this video because I was looking for tactical pens, a concept I only recently discovered and now I'm intrigued. I may get one, may not, not sure yet. So far I'm leaning toward the Atomic Bear, because it has a built-in flashlight, and as an electrician, I frequently find myself working in the dark. I'm also just an enthusiast of flashlights in general, and have dozens. Hardhat lights, penlights, magnetic work lights, etc. Lights that double as a phone charging bank, you name it, if you want me to just throw money at you and give me a product, put a light on it.
    One of my favorites is the newish Klein flashlight with built-in laser pointer, my only complaint with it is that the pocket clip is a bit weak, it gets ripped off my side by ductwork hangers and other typical things in a construction environment. It's a bit too bulky to be described as a pocket light, I can't really put it in a shirt pocket, and it often gets left on my truck dashboard even though I like it in theory and spent around $50 on it. I also had some lights I bought at either Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply, I forget which, that I quite liked but weren't very durable.
    They were these multi-function lights with a yellow plastic body, found them on clearance for like $7, discounted from an original price in the 20s. I loved them when I started using them, because they had a strong magnetic base, could stick them to I-beams, ductwork, sprinkler pipes, whatever to see what I was doing. The first time I dropped one, it held up, and I was pleasantly surprised, even though the battery percentage display got cockeyed. The second time I dropped one, it fell apart. It is technically still usable, the light still works, but the body is in 3 pieces with the internal wires dangling out.

    I think having a few ways to light a fire in the woods is always important. Personally I'd carry at least three, some sort of striker, a Sailors Lighter which is just a rope with some flint, and probably another type of striker or matches.
    Anyways I'm always looking for weird EDC gear because I don't use a flashlight for anything, I don't carry a watch never got used to one. I already have a wallet and knife, and pens are locked in for my kit.
    It's hard to tell if something will fit your lifestyle how active you are or where you work can change what you look for. So you never know what'll make your life a little easier until you see it

    I consider those gimmicky products as a waste of money, last one I bought was the Guppie from CRKT, and the blade spring broke after a year of only being used as a keychain
    Now if I want a knife and some screwdriver, I bought em separately, not in a gimmicky tool with thousands of functions, and it ends up being more durable and cheaper

    6:20, that's not a bit holder, the "dewalt one" that is a quarter inch hex driver. It will marginally hold onto a hex shank for a 1/4" drive, but it isn't a bit holder, nor is a bit holder a quarter driver, though there is some overlap where they will perform tasks meant for the other.
