I’m a long haul truck driver with a Skeletool CX that’s been on my belt loop every single day for 13 years. It’s beat to hell but still going strong. 48 states, over a million miles, thousands of miles of backpacking, and countless household chores. I no longer carry a pocket knife because of this tool.
🤙 radical
13 Years! That's gotta be a record!
Truckers rock
I’m going on 5 years, good to know lol
I believe it bro, I carried the same black kershaw leek for probably 5 years, don't carry it much now but it's my first tried and true edc knife
I have the Leatherman Micra. I have learnt that 90% of my EDC cutting tasks is best served done by scissors than a blade. Additionally, when folded up, there are no sharp edges to catch on fabric. A very underrated multitool.
I have a feeling the gerber splice is better
I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the leather man is higher quality, and has tools that’d be cool when you need them. But I think overall the splice is better, if you’re goi g to go with just one. But if you’re carrying another thing that takes care of the other tools then yeah the micra
But also the splice is half the price
As a Machinist the tweezers on the macra are invaluable, all the metal slivers.
Squirt S4 is one step up from Micra. Better built.
The awl is a great tool to use with your screwdriver to pre-drill a small hole to center and start your wood screws. Only needs to be deep enough to start the threads
On the SOG power pint, you don't have to fold out the tool to push the lock tab to close te opened tool. You can unlock the tool by opening (halfway) another tool, and you can close the tool. I love the size of the screwdriver! You can reach deep nested screws (e.g. battery cover screws in toys). It is pretty handy!
I was going to comment the same thing! Good looking out.
pair the powerpint with the 711L EDC ratchet (purchased from Amazon with the bits) and its good enough for most light weight tasks. The 711L ratchet is compatible with standard 1/4" bits and even leatherman flat bits and extender.
This is an incredible tip! Thank you sooo much!
I know I'm replying to an older thread, but I wanted to add on to this for anyone watching this video in the future. I've got medium sized hands, and it is very easy for me to open the PowerPint just enough to get my thumb in behind one of the sides to press down on the lock mechanism which allows me to set the tool back into the frame no problem. It is still very much a one-handed tool in that regard because I'm only popping it open maybe an inch to get my thumb in for the press. The PowerPint is my go to EDC multitool.
Dude says he Carrie’s it everyday but didn’t know that and none of his stuff looks used lol
Great video. I've started carrying the Midnight Manager the past few years as a second tool. The pen is one of the most useful parts of it. But love having the quick access to the scissors. It's small enough that when I come home it stays in my pocket while my larger knife goes on my valet.
SOG powerpint is my favorite tool of all time, used to carry the skeletool CX for a year, but was to big for me, then i rocked the gerber dime for about 8-9 months but allways wished it was just a tiny bit bigger, but then found the powerpint and its been in my pocket ever since, a good 5-6 month now. Ive done some mods to it like glued a magnet from a dead laptop to keep it closed so it desent open in my pocket, and ive filled down the bottleopenr to get a flathead driver.
The Compact is great! 👌 I also have the Mini Champ and the Squirt PS4 (both great tools), but the one that I ALWAYS bring is the Leatherman Style PS since I can take it anywhere (including where blades are a no go). Glad you got the Skeletool CX btw.
Thx a lot for the awesome content! 🙏
Great video. I found that for the Powerpint you can fit a flat Leatherman bit under the pocket clip. I carry in fifth pocket as well and the flat/Phillips bit works with the bitdriver.
My boys (and mom) gifted me a Leatherman after I lost my Swiss Army knife around 30 years ago, when there was only a standard model as far as I know. It has ridden in my watch pocket every day since. It hasn't saved my life or anything but if I had a quarter for every time that I used it I'd be a wealthy man. I've even developed the habit of holding it in place with my right hand whenever I run so it doesn't pop out of my pocket. I'd absolutley die if I lost it. I agree that scissors are a must for me, stray nose-hairs etc. as you get older. The pliers, half-serrated blade and file are also go-to's. When other guys go to look for tools I just break out the leatherman and get it done.
ayyy, was just hoping you would upload soon. I bought the Powerpint and it's been very reliable for its compact size
I have my Skeletool CX in my pocket and a Micra on my carabiner with my keys nearly every day when I leave the house. They make a good pair. I typically grab my Wave+ when I'm doing work around the yard or using the snow blower for replacing shear pins. The Powerpint has me intrigued!
I’ve been using the Leatherman curl for a few months now. It’s a great size to stick in the pocket without sacrificing feeling big enough to be useful.
Leatherman signal in coyote tan + bit kits and bit extension
+
Leatherman Style CS everyday for the past 3 years.
Perfect combination for all of my day to day needs
Originally the executive “orange peeler” was designed for pipe cleaning. The back side of executive peeler is razor sharp and works great for opening boxes
The orange peeler/pipe cleaner appears in a close-up in the title sequence for the original _MacGuyver._ Mac is using it to lift a cap off something.
I just got a Gerber Armbar Drive a couple weeks ago. I am loving it. It's the perfect size for work. I've paired it with my Gerber MP600 Bladeless.
I also have to give props in this category to my Leatherman Free T-2. The tool set is phenomenal. I really like the scissors and the Phillips is first rate.
Been following you since pocket now bro. Love your work. This is one of the videos I’ve been waiting for
Thanks for this review. I now have a SOG powerpint and i love it! Moded the bottle opener for it to be a bottle opener and flat head driver/prybar
Definitely advise everyone to try the leatherman Curl out! Been my favorite tool. It’s so light and has a great pocket clip
On one hand, what a person chooses to carry is obviously a personal choice. But it’s nice to see other people liking and using the tools that work for me. I regularly carry the armbar drive, the dime and I recently picked up the key note to put my keys on my waist. When I need to slim down, I have the Victornox Signature Lite. It has the standard tools but with the pen and a flashlight. It’s not a solid dedicated light but I works in a pinch. 10/10 would recommend. But if he does re-release his version, I’m picking that up quick.
Great video.
Skeletool and Sog PowerLitre are my most used too.
Another one Id highly recommend is the Ruike LD41. Great price, build quality and steel choice. Only downside is pliers are small and light duty only
I usually run a full size multitool, Gerber MP600 in a Clip&carry kydex sheath. I keep my Gerber Dime in a small pouch with a Gerber Shard & a Coldsteel Recon 1, that set up for real light minimalist carry. I keep a Leatherman Micra with Grimworkshop micro tools attached to the key ring with a Nitize S beaner. The SAK Bantam is a really good very light carry. It just depends on what environment I'm going to & what I expect to encounter when I get there. Enjoyed this video.
Just when I needed it, you gave me what I needed. Thank you TM!
Sold my leatherman wave to upgrade to a P2. Once I made the bit driver mod like in your P2 mod video I have never looked back and fell in love with it even more. It’s in my edc rotation every other day depending on the day’s tasks. The P2 is the winner for me!
I agree with most of your descriptions and choices, oddly my old first skeletool has a regular non combo serrated blade although I had to Dremel out the thumb hole because it was dangerously sharp edged. Sometimes I find that I need a really fine sharp blade and a folding scalpel blade holder serves the purpose really well. These take No. 25 blades which are cheap and easily replaced when needed, Samior TS51 Small Slim Scalpel Folding Pocket Flipper Knife.
Great video, really enjoyed the selection of multitools. Subscribed!
Victorinox Manager/Rambler is godly. It's got the most used tools from the mini-champ in a bit smaller package for half the price.
Love my Minichamp but i'll have to give it a look
Totally agree. Minichamp - useless/redundant tools = Rambler/Manager
I have to agree with you there. I myself have a Rambler which I EDC on a Lanyard around my neck each day, barely notice its there and use it fairly frequently. Personally I find the Minichamp bulked up by what I would consider useless tools on an EDC multitool. ( same for most Swiss army knifes tbh). really wish they did custom orders, so much potential for the perfect EDC multitool imo.
Agree. Rambler is the less -fluff version of the mini-champ.
Agreed. I've had the same rambler on my keychain with a small s clip for about 20 years. Love the phillips, bottle opener tool.
I owned the Wave (stolen) when it came out; purchased a Charge TTI eleven years ago (en route to Leatherman to get repaired); just purchased a Molle Black customized Surge and Free P4. I love the Surge but I like the versatility of the P4. I like my Leathermans for their differences!
As for a knife multi tool, I usually carry the True Utility Smartknife+
-Blade, with serrations
-built in flatblade screwdrivers
-mini pry bar
- 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" wrenches built in
-1/4" bit holder (for storage), plus bit driver slot in the tip for use
-mini file
-metric and SAE rulers (almost useless due to short length)
It's about $10.00 USD and has more tools and uses than the Gerber Curve, but due to size takes a role of primary pocket knife.
I have three mini champs and I love every one! I've gone to carrying more pocket size tools than belt design because they're just as handy.
Great video and comparison of the multitools! I EDC a Swiss Champ, great tool, just carry it in my pocket with a lanyard and a clip looped around my belt loop to take the weight, and into the pocket, just unclip it to use it. I also have a Rambler on my keyring.
I must say I prefer the Super Tinker to the Compact... the screwdrivers do it for me and it's less expensive. Still a great buy.
The squirt is my EDC, own 4 or 5 of them at this point. The scissors are small though well made, but the pliers cut too. Additionally the pliers with a little tweaking can be very precise, I use mine as tweezers having sanded and polished the tips inner surfaces to meet squarely. I'm rarely without one of these and a sharp knife to augment the small but serviceable knife on the leatherman.
I carry so many different knives. Usually 4 on or near me always.
I like my Leatherman Kick in my EDC bag, Some form of 3 to 3 and a 1/2 inch folding blade in my pocket, a Spyderco bug on my necklace and a 2.5 inch fixed blade mounted to the straps on my EDC bag. Pretty much got any situation covered.
I do like Victorinox though, just not as every day. I keep a Farmer in my other backpack for camping, bugout, whatever. It is there with some other stuff.
Nice video!
Oh.. One of my daughters got me my Mirca from ACE hardware years ago. Not sure if they still do knife stuff or not.
To close a tool on SOG Powerpint you can just partially open any other tool; it will disengage the lock and allow to close both tools easier than open pliers every time.
Got a sidekick super cheap and I cant help but to love it, got anything and everything i could need.
I still pine for the Leatherman SideClip I had back in the day. I have not carried a multi-tool since I lost mine and found out I can not get them anymore. The biggest thing is how thin it is. 1/2" thick makes for a much more comfortable carry. 2nd is that the screw drivers come out the end and the whole thing opens up so you get incredible reach. Perfect for getting to screws in the bottom of a computer case.
My Leatherman MUT EOD has been serving me well for a few years now. It's not really EDC friendly, though it does come with a pouch than can be worn on a belt. It has the best knife I have ever seen on a multitool.
Love my Skeletool! I carry the Skeletool RX. I like having a serrated blade in my bag since the knife in my pocket is always a plain edge. It essentially functions as a small saw which often comes in handy.
But Leatherman fights warranty Repairs, Gerber does not. Have a problem, Gerber makes the exchange/replacement painless.
Carrying either Skeletool or Gerber Suspension. Very handy here at high mountain desert plateau hideout NM. Suspension is heavy but....handy.
The one thing I'll say about the Gerber Dime is that the bottle opener is probably the best one I've ever used and not just on compact tools. It just works so damn well.
Great video, I take this opportunity to congratulate you for the channel, I learned a lot of EDC thanks to it.
Due to my work in an urban and formal environment, it only allows me to carry an EDC on my keychain. I carry a flashlight
fenix, a prybar kershaw and a leatherman micra. In my pocket, I also carry a Victorinox minichamp and a lighter. As you can see I have two of the items you showed. On some occasions I carry two victorinox (minichamp and tinker small) plus the fenix flashlight. Greetings from Tucuman - Argentina.
I use as my EDC a Gerber Dime, and while too small for some needs… is a remarkable tool for its size! It’s like the Mighty Mouse of multitools.
I really like the size and tool assortment of the Dime, but the pliers are WAY too flimsy. When I got one I bent it by trying to shape think wire. It was likely abuse. My second one I was careful with and bent the pliers anyway trying to twist with them. They seem tough for clamping, but not to twist
For me the Victorinox Explorer is my EDC urban carry, and if I'm going out of the city I'm taking the Victorinox Farmer X due to having a saw. Never felt like I needed one handed opening though.
A saw for the city?
@@waltswild out OF the city, not out TO the city🙂
@@pkennethv this makes total sense LOL thanks!
2nd the explorer. It is awesome!
I carry my Free P4 almost every day and love it. Some call it "gimmicky", but the easy one handed opening is the best feature 👌
Wonderful video demo!! Thank you!
This is a great look, thanks for sharing! For me, I carry a Compact every day, but have considered swapping it out for a Climber.
I got the victorinox executive for $12. A guy on fb ordered one and they sent him a box full(like 18). So he sold them to people cheap. I freaking LOVE it!! I’ve used that obscure tool in it a bunch of times. It’s a great size on a small carabiner on my edc bag.
I'm a fan of the Gerber Dime....The pliers are a slight flaw, in that the springs that lock them into place can fail if you put too much pressure on them...But, on the other hand, the tolerances at the tips are so tight that you can use them as stronger tweezers, to extract those splinters and tiny metal slivers, or even hairs! The bottle opener also can be used as a wrench to turn some common sizes of bolts and nuts. I hang it by the bottle opener too, attaching it by a mini carabiner to my keychain.
If you do much camping, the Huntsman Swiss Army knife has a nice saw to make camp gadgets, a lace puller and leather working tools (like a point for sewing leather) to repair heavy fabric or leather items. Also the scissors, toothpick, tweezers and a couple of blades. Cutter and screw driver bottle opener. Not overly thick for having so many tools.
Love the power pint! I’ve had it in my pocket ever since I first saw your first video of it. I recently lost mine about a week ago while unloading a lawn mower off my trailer and had to instantly buy another one! What jeans are your go to? Just curious because different pants have different size 5th pockets. Great video man!
Super roundup of the smaller multi tool options 👍 I have the charge TTI and yes it's just a little bit too heavy for the pocket. I also have the Powerpint which is indeed very handy. My only gripe is that the Phillips tool is too small and there is no option to clip on or store a separate 1/4" bit. I work as a mechanical technician in dusty conditions wearing a leisure /track suit bottoms inside a TyVec disposable overalls so a belt carry is a non runner . I actually find the much maligned Gerber Lockdown Drive my preferred option but it just depends on your unique circumstances.
SOGG PowerPint has been my EDC for a couple of years. I may not be the pickiest guy, but I think the build quality, i. e. : machining w the gears is pretty great. I originally found it the most 'fidgety' to just sling open, but - using the pocket clip - it constantly fell open in my pocket, until I added a tiny magnet to the 'free' end. Now it's not a fidget item, but it solved the extremely annoying in-pocket self-deploying issue, which often made it very difficult to get out, because it would get really jammed up when open in a pocket.
I carry the Malga 6 which I liked because it’s basically a SAK with Micarta scales and a cool fork as well as the blade is M390. Not necessarily the most versatile, but it does everything I need it too and it’s lightweight and compact.
Maintenance fitter and I daily a Skeletool CX. It's amazing and the perfect maintenance tool! I don't go a day without it - at home or at work. Actually... I've got 2!
The Victorinox Compact is the standard 91mm size, which includes the majority of Victorinox's catalog. I do agree they should incorporate some of the tools into more models, though, such as the little file in the back, the pen slot and the included pin. The combo tool is pretty cool too, but I know that, like me, a lot of people actually enjoy both the flat head/bottle opener and the can opener separately. Anyway, yeah, most swiss army knives are that size.
The awl on the Gerber Armbar Drive makes total sense... it can be used to mark out spots on the wood where you want to put screws in.
I’m not sure what model I have but I got it as a gift in the early nineties still works today usually kept it in my car great tool
I've been carrying the Micra for about 10 years now I buy a new one every 2 years just because the spring of the scissors wears out. I carry it exclusively as an EDC grooming kit, the scissors make excellent finger nail clippers and the built in tweezers are very useful. I pair the Micra with the Leatherman Wingman so pliers are covered. It's a combination that has been working for me for years, so I probably won't be switching anytime soon.
Why don't you send them back for warranty repair?
Best combo is a pocket knife with a squirt on your keychain, so it's always with you. If you work in construction daily, i would change that to a more substantial multi tool, such as a skeletool or Wave if i used a multi tool a lot.
My favorite edc multitool is the leatherman sidekick. It
fits in my pocket so well.
I'd personally go with the power pint + some Victorinox depending on the occasion + a main blade/something for self defense.
The victorinox executive was the first multitool I ever owned. My dad gave it to me when I was in cub scouts, and it is still what I think of when I think SAK.
I'm 50yrs a cabinet maker. Dozens of edc multi tools (at least 7 lost to TSA for keyring carry)
Front pocket is premium real estate for me so compact is a must. I will always have a dedicated single blade EDC knife right front outside. (currently out of 50 to 60 is CJRB cleaver beast, Ken Onion SS leek and the incredibly slim sleek reverse tanto Coast LX502-all dependent on work that day or pants worn)
Left front evolved to my ring zipper pull leather card/fob case attached with 1/2" curb link chain and leather belt strap. Since a multi tool was a must and 5th pocket wasn't available due to pill case i attached it with premium mini locking niteEZ carabiner-locking feature a must! So i can slip case in with tool and 3 keys hanging out top very accessible or I slide it all down and with it quick tug I can access the tool.
And after 25 years of trial and error i first did not agree with much of op's list (i like the leatherman micro a lot) until the end and the last few. So my dedicated multi that has consistently been of daily use that i have given most of my mini multis to my daughters, wife, the kitchen drawer. And I'll say that often need use of pliers such as one of the Leathermans (the #1 multi tool I own but isn't and EDC is the leatherman Juice that has purple scales, saw, metal file with reverse a diamond hone! Plus) but I've given up on pliers for this dudes last pick: The Victornox Mini Champ2 (has to be 2) Why? The quality of the blades is still up to Swiss standards. The 'orange peeler' is actually a deadly sharp hook blade very handy for string cutting, minor gutting, it has a mm/in tiny rule -super useful. The micro Phillips/bottle opener i use 2x a week at least. the keyring, nail file scissors , micro slotted standard Swiss quality. Toothpick, i always have a dozen in storage as i use it every day. (this is the only modification i do. I switch out the tiny tweezers for the more practical tooth pick) And by far the most useful tool? How many times am i in a situation where i need a pen and none are to be found by me in my shop or the clerk or client that needs a small visual aid? Not more then other tools like scissors or file but everytime i remember and pull it out it makes it worth every penny.... and unfortunately mini chamo 2 is usually priced well north of $45. That tool is the retractable ballpoint pen cartridge which for an inch long rarely runs out of ink and is easily replaceable for a small price and rights about as well as the Fisher space pan at all angles and upside down and maybe in water but I haven't taste stress and maybe in water but I haven't tested that. and I believe the reason I specified the Swiss mini champ ll is because the Swiss mini champ comes with the same tools but There is a LED flashlight where the pen is in the 2. I have never had much use for the tiny little LEDs to retractable pen is a far superior choice and the deciding factor for me. And the OPs waffle steel mini champ has all the tools except it doesn't have a slot for the toothpick or the LED light if my memory serves me. It might have the tweezers which is the same thing as a toothpick if you switch out. I think the waffle steel is a premium vintage feature that looks great and sometimes feels better than the plastic scales. ( sometimes with luck I can find a new one for 30 to 35 and occasionally I'll throw down for a used one < $30 if I trust the seller when he says it's 99.5%. And I have to keep at least one in reserve at all times because even though it's on a locking carabiner I'm at the age where if I have one for more than a year it's good and more than a couple years it's amazing because these things have a way of disappearing when they're off the chain. And I just can't function without one. So, i can edit this list down to 3 w Leatherman micro, and the regular thin executive which are ubiquitous.
anyway, the last tool made the time i spent watching worthwhile*
*oh, i forgot-15 years ago my wife got me the outrageous Victornox deluxe executive with Sterling 925 scales with my initials engraved. Of course I'm not caring that on my ring with keys and in fact I think it ended up in her jewelry drawer where it sits only to be brought out maybe once a year to polish it, appreciate it but not use it just because it's so fucking nice. hopefully I'll make it to an age where I have the luxury of just slipping sterling silver multi-tool out of my fist pocket to unfurl the nail file and scissors to keep me busy in my rocking chair on the porch. thanks OP for taking the time and yes this is a compliment even though I would never carry most of your pics
That Compact has “Plus” scales, with the extra slot for the pen. Also the bottle opener is also a flat head screwdriver and a can opener, with the wire-stripper notch. Also, it’s an 84 mm model, the Pioneer is 93, and the standard plastic scaled slip-joint models like the Spartan, Huntsman, Champ and Tinker are 91 mm.
My favorite compact edc is the victorinox manager. I carry it mainly so I can see the look on people's faces when they ask for a pen and I hand them a tiny pocket knife with a retractable pen.
I use an armbar slim.. screw driver and knife combo!! I use it everyday at work. The no locking screw driver hasn't been an issue because you can turn it 90 degrees and get extra torque.
You can unlock the tools on the Powerpint by partially opening another tool on the same side. It presses down on the bar and releases any locked tools.
I love my Gerber Armbar. As a traveling aircraft mechanic it has come in very handy. It’s in my pocket every day now. All of our oil is still in metal cans from the 50’s for some reason. The pointed awl has been great for puncturing oil cans to service engines. The screwdriver has been used numerous times to save me a trip to the toolbox in the service van. I carry this and the baby Fenix flashlight every day in my pocket. Would be lost without them.
Which Fenix flashlight you talking about?
Dang, buddy! You need an old fashioned can opener with the triangular edge!
The best mini SAK is the midnite manager. No doubt about it. It’s much smaller than the mini Swiss champ but doesn’t have the pointless tools like the cuticle thing. You also get a pen and a flashlight. It rocks! i actually use mine all the time, Ito stays on my keys always. Knife law in the UK is really strict but i can ave that on my all the time without worrying about causing offence
I definitely think the nextool miniflagship deserved to be on this list. It is much better than the gerber dime for example. Although the construction is inferior to the leatherman micra, its scissors are more powerful and for the price it is almost unbeatable. If I lost it, it wouldn't hurt too much, which makes it ideal to carry in your pocket
I'd go just a bit smaller for a keyring knife, and use the Victorinox Rambler. Has most of the useful functions of the Minichamp, and also the correct orientation for the scissors and main blade opposite the ring, but is a lot more compact.
I'm an electrician by trade, and I carry a wingman every single day on my belt. I upgraded the pouch because the nylon wasn't cut for my line of work to the leather pouch, but I use it every single day. If I upgrade, I'm looking at a free. I only wish they would have scissors because I use them like crazy!
I love my powerpint. Best tool i can get because i don't have the money for a Leatherman. I cant stop talking about how much i love this tool. The powerpint is very strong and fun to use. Thanks for the video!
i have carried a gerber dime for years and never knew about the tweezers and that info could of helped me so many times
Just watched this and glad you commented on the MiniChamp, as I've been wondering if you were bringing it back. I would definitely pay more for this if you brought this back - not sure if you can do a pre-order or poll to gauge interest, but thought I'd throw it out there and put in my two cents. Thanks!
The minichamp is great, but I prefer the rambler. Don’t really miss the extra tools and it’s thinner and less expensive! Great video, definitely need to give more of these a try.
The manager is an even better step up from the rambler, adding the pen instead of the toothpick (can replace the tweezers with the toothpick if desired)
But the midnight manager is not an upgrade, it's a wasteful existence - the sorry excuse for a light does equivalent to nothing, only adding noticeable thickness to the piece
I've carried a Leatherman Wingman in my my backpack for the last 8 years or so but I barely take it out since I started carrying the Style CS in my pocket every day. I also have the Style PS for traveling (no blade, small scissors + terribly flimsy pliers).
great Vid Taylor, my usual carry is a Victornox Credit card, just fits in my slim wallet (Chums) making for a very simple EDC. I do have a Gerber dime and yes the file is crap! but I do use the package opener all the time .... one question though, on the bottle opener the top has a rotating tube, do you know waht this is for?? or any suggestions for its use. Cheers
Bob
I have a few different multitools that are with me basically every day. I don't have all of the options that most of you have because of local knife laws (which means I can't carry a power pint :( or a wave) But if I am on site, I have my Rebar. When I am at school, my pencil case has a craftsman version of the micra (mostly used for the scissors and nail file/scraper). If I am just out and about, it is all about my juice c2.
Other than pliers and screw drivers, for me it is all about the awl and the can opener. I cannot tell you how many times I have actually had to open cans with a multi-tool even though I was at someone's house.
ever sense you introduced the Powerpint in in basspro video, I have been carrying it almost daily at work. My regular multitool is a Gerber MP600 Diesel that I have used for probably the last 10 years. I still carry it however it is something I carry outside of work as it is carried in a leather holster with my Olight Baton. out side of that, the Powerpint is with me every day when im working as it is easy to conceal in the pants and is fast when I need it on the fly. I have also been known to use a Gerber Armbar Slim Drive which is the same as the Drive however it only has the driver, the knife and an bottle opener / all on it. i have come to put those in my kits for a regular screwdriver option instead of actually carrying screwdrivers in my bags.
Carried the Executive since high-school. I really like the orange peeler, it was a good box opener and flathead. The nail file was a good size 2 Philips head for light work, but I broke mine trying to loosen a really stuck screw.
I carry a leatherman bond with pocket clip everyday. I have beat it up working on a farm for the last year. It has held up great.
The Leatherman Free T2 is my EDC baby-sized multi tool. Basically same tools as the Gerber arm bar but without the bits. I've considered the arm bar and probably will end up grabbing one, but I'm a remodeling contractor and I use the large flat head on the Leatherman as a pry bar very often. I'm not sure if that cry thing on the Gerber would work as well. I also carry miniature sets of crescent brand slip joint pliers and adjustable wrench and they work so much better than any set of pliers on any full size multi-tool.
Great vid. Simplifies everything.
I would love to have a “bladeless” skeletool with large scissors!
That’d be perfect for travel! That’d probably work well for me since I like carrying dedicated pocket knives for knife tasks. I guess you could get a multitool and remove the blade
That would be great
Just getting into my EDC .subbed
You need to try out the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit X. The ergonomics are simply unbeatable.
My favorite is the Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit, weight is acceptable 210 grams, and works really good.
I have a Victorinox Ranger, it has "CAMPING" written on it with a little wigwam, I've had it about 7 years and couldn't live without it, the only thing it doesn't have is pliers, I've used the needle for a number of things, it's good for helping get splinters out.
I carry a Victorinox Compact in black in my purse, I love it and use the scissors quite a bit, plus I keep a Leatherman Squirt around, the little pliers are pretty dang handy. I’d love to get a Power Pint but haven’t been able to justify it to myself yet. Probably soon though.
The awl in Armbar Drive is useful when you need to make a starting hole into wood for a screw. Also you can hit crazy sparks from a ferro rod with it.
The executive is my favorite SAK, and was used on my favorite MacGyver episode. Unfortunately the 74mm has been discontinued which is why it is so expensive now.
Yep, The Classic SD Alox hangs on my keychain ready for action... That and a Rovybon Aurora A1 are always my very basics
Here's a trick for closing the locking tools on the SOG Powerpint. Instead of opening the tool to depress the lock bar, I defeat the lock by partially opening another tool on the same side of the handle. That will disengage the lock from the tool you were using, then just close them both at once.
Not going to lie those skulls are pretty sick if I didnt just buy a winter co factor I would be getting a nice wall mount
Lately I've been carrying 2 multitools in a pouch. A leatherman mini tool for pliers and a SAK classic for the other tools. I have a designated knife so a blade isn't an issue. Once the GOAT comes out, that will be my main for awhile.
I too have lost a skeletool to the bad pocket clip. I replaced it though and I have been using the carabiner to clip the tool on the edge of my pocket with the tool hanging inside. I have carried it this way for years no issue, not only is this more secure but is also a bit more stealth
Great choices!
I love my Gerber MP600 it does the job for me.
On the Victorinox Compact. The pin is good to use when you have a splinter. I always use a pin to dig under the splinter to pull it up and then use the tweezers to pull it out
I would love to have one of your Minichamps. That little tool rocks
