Hi Kiwi, I just purchased an add-on item called "Leatherman Skeletool Hammer/Jammer" I'd post a link here, but YT doesn't allow that. Not only does it have a small pry bar, but a hammer and a 1/4" slot for bits. Gander Flight, thank you for your suggestion, I've taken it up. I did replace the secondary bit in the handle with a Torx bit since I find I often need one. It's such a handy EDC tool.
I didn't know Leatherman had these flat and Phillips bits together like that. Thanks! I have carried my CX for 4 years now and have never had any problems. Thanks for the video! 😎
Absolutely love the Skeletool CX. I also use the combo bit in the driver. As a Canadian i prefer to use the #1 and #2 Robinson (square) in the handle because a lot of the screws i run into are Robinsons.
ordered the same bit pack but for a different reason… up here in canuck land, robertson (square) heads are the most common. i already had the leatherman bit kit (the big one) so i had a bit with the #1 and #2 robertson (square) so now with only two bits in the skeletool i have a flathead, #1 - #2 philips and the #1, #2 square… awesome tool, never leaves my side.
Thank you I lost my Leatherman Freestyle CX and have been looking for a replacement. I thought the bit was affixed and wouldn’t buy it become of it. So now I’ll be looking for the Skeletool
@@GanderFlight I bought the Leatherman Skeletool CX it's nice but, it's not going to replace my lost Freestyle CX. Great video thanks, I’ve just got the skeletool as a present, I’ve had 2 wingman in the past and loved them. One thing I noticed straight away with the skeletool is the pliers head doesn’t naturally stay open like the wingman did. is this something that changes over time with use or is it closed and you need to awkwardly handle it to open and close it when your are using it? Big deciding factor for if I’m going to return for another wingman or not as I don’t have the time or the hands when I’m 10 foot up a ladder trying to loosen a stubborn nut on a lighting fixture .

Its not about knowing you can change bits - its about selecting the combo bit that should come with the unit from the factory. Have a nice day Herve! Thanks for the comment
I added two Robertson bits to my Skeletool. In Canada we are more likely to come across the Robertson screwdriver bit than the Phillips, and whenever l do find the Phillips screws, l usually replace them immediately with Robertson screws...much more reliable.
I had an old Leatherman Marlboro Edition you want to go out again sent it back it was damaged they sent me a brand-new rebar I think they went beyond their warranty on that one
Based on the photos on Leatherman's website I'd say you're correct. For an EDC knife I don't care for serrated blades though and its easier to switch out the bits than it is to swap a blade.
Cool video, up here in northern Canada at the hardware store I work at we have sold roughly half a dozen Skeletool tools and each one has had the dual bits in the package, so your bit problem seems odd to me. P.S. in the old days long before Covid we used to get the wave, surge and Skeletool with a loose ROBERTSON (or square) number 2 and 3 double sided bit loose in the box (I called leatherman and tried to order more and they said they didn’t know what I was talking about) a shame as square bits are super popular up here eh 🇨🇦.
Have these sales been recently? Maybe they updated the packages? Hopefully? Very interesting that you got a few loose Robertson bits - that would be a very unique shape for a skeletool bit!
@@GanderFlight when Leatherman released the free series with the grey coloured sheaths was when we STOPPED getting the spare double sided bit loose in the package with each tool, a real shame since at my hardware store almost every single screw we sell has a Robertson (or square) head and since no one at Leatherman customer support appears to know how they were made (and therefore I can’t order them as I was told they “don’t exist in our product catalog”) so I hold dearly onto the 3 I have as I use them many times daily to help customers and keep them preloaded in my wave or surge as we hardly ever use Phillips up here. I received the bits when I bought my regular skeletool, wave and surge over a period of roughly 5 years but like I said, when the grey sheaths and new Leatherman logo and packaging released, well that was the end unfortunately. Very long winded but I thought you should know.
P.S. I just noticed your comment about unusual shape, if you look at a standard 24 piece (I believe) bit set you’ll notice one of the bits is a square number 1 and 2 bit (known as a piece of the Canadian bit set) but up here we use the number 2 and 3 and rarely the number 1 bit driver, so that is why the rare 2 and 3 bit is so useful eh.
@@GanderFlight just like all of the other Leatherman bits appear to be “flat” it’s the same for this one except their shape was a very small square to begin with so the profile is as flat as your American Philips bits. As long as you don’t put a ton of torque on them I think it’s amazing you can have 24 bits in such a small package (I keep my bit set in the back of my sheath) and I have used at least half of the different bits to solve a variety of problems at the hardware store I work at.
I would love to take my Skeletool when traveling but because of the knife it wouldn't get through TSA obviously. Does anybody have any modifications to get it through TSA? I suppose I could just remove the blade altogether but a scissors or something else in its place would be great. Let me know what you all think. TY

why not just buy the bit kit? comes with like 30 bits and if you don’t want to carry them all swap the one from the skeletool with ones you’d rather carry
The "Carbide Glass Breaker Bit" pairs great with your bit of choice (Tungsten Carbide Glass Breaking tip / 1/4" Screwdriver) just wish the plier tips together formed a 1/4" hex or from other comments a robertson #2 might be best in North America. A Gerber Suspension NXT gives it healthy competition sub-7oz, pocket clip, sprung pliers, more tools all locking and outside opening - complete for FAR less $$$.
Same exact thing happened with me I was fiddling with my zero turn and I had my skeletool I need pliers so I used it and snapped the pliers same was as you 😂😂
I own five Leatherman multitools. The skeletool is by far the worst one. You are right about the lack of being user friendly with regards to changing screwdriver bits. I demonstrated this as well in my review video. I showed the tool being used in various situations and went over many of the pros and cons. I got mine for $40.00 off the shelf. And, I feel this is overpriced for the quality and functionality of this tool. Now, the local stores have them for $85.00. SMH
@@GanderFlightSorry for the late reply as I just saw this. For everyday use: Rev Heavier Duty; Surge I keep a Micra and Style PS in my altoids tin in a leather belt pouch. Take care.
I have the skeletool, and I know about the bits that are available and I have a few replacements, as for the warranty I had to use it on a different tool, which was shipped to me defective, never used, brand new but defective. Well the return process was difficult, I didn't like leatherman's request of proof requiring photographs or a video explaining my problem. At the time producing a video was not something I could do. So I sent them a letter and photographs, plus receipts. This was also an engraved item which I paid for under Leatherman's additional charges. Leatherman did not want to give me a refund or replace it, so they fought the whole thing. Their reason was that there is no refund or replacement for an engraved item even though it came defective upon shipping. They simply wouldn't do it, that is until I told them, that I am a collector of multi-tool and that I have a showcase which I sent them a picture of that has 20 of their products in my showcase, all of them brand new. And I threatened that if they didn't honor their warranty, I not only would never do business with them, but everybody I bring over to see my showcase and talk about multi-tools the subject of Leatherman's refusing to honor their warranty will undoubtedly come up. Due to this threat, leatherman replaced and engraved the tool, but of course I had to send back the defective multi tool so that they could evaluate my claim that it was their fault not mine, but no apology, just silence. All of this took a lot of time and patience. I nearly gave up more than once. That's my story, and it's 100% true, so don't trust leatherman to replace or repair your tool, especially if it's been engraved. Thanks for listening. Interesting video.
Sorry to hear you had a sour experience. I don't think its unreasonable for them to require photos or videos of defects before processing warranty claims.
@@GanderFlight In response, I would say since Leatherman would be receiving the tool in the process of the return, they need not put their customers through such an ordeal to provide prove with video evidence of the defect, because they could see it themselves when the Tool arrives. And I did include a letter describing my complaint. Also, I recently became part of the RUclips community and have a Channel of my own so you may not see me by my formal username. If you want to visit the channel it's, (The Best Channel you ever Knew) I even set it up so that you could go there using the channel name, (The Cure to Mental Illness). Enjoy.
Yes of course that's kind of a no-brainer answer to that question they should definitely come with the Phillips and Flathead replacements. Just add saved by dollars to the price and then you get all three of these items in your kit and there's no having to wait or making a special order everything you have is in pocket and isn't that what it's supposed to be for? Good customer service and thinking about what a customer's needs are and providing those needs without charging the customer extra money really in the long run is the smartest thing to do for a business because if a product works and someone is happy with that product they are more than willing to say so and good publicity goes a long way the same with bad publicity. If a customer has a good review and tells his buddy about the excellent performance the quality and craftsmanship of a product plus the customer service and the forethought that to add certain little things such as the extra bits really goes a long way for the customer and not only will we say so to others about it but we are much more likely to maybe even buy another product just like this just to have as backup or in our backpack or whatever bag
I love the minamalist and high quality blade design of the skeletool. In my opinion, for my needs, best one out there.

if this is the biggest complaint I'm gonna go ahead and buy one!
I carry it everyday and haven’t been disappointed 🎉
why not just buy the bit kit? comes with like 30 bits and if you don’t want to carry them all swap the one from the skeletool with ones you’d rather carry
another great option!
Just get the Super Tool. Philips/Straight are built in, no dropping bits.
To each their own :)
I broke today in exactly the same part. The design of the pliers is bad.
This is basically a pliers with some embellishments. If the pliers break so often, it means the tool is a waste of money.
👍
Yes I do you the man
Enjoy!!
Use the flathead screwdriver to save your blade from prying. You're only going back $60 + delivery and tax for the replacement bits if you chip it.
Someone else pointed out using the metal part near the carabiner on paint cans - I tried it and it fits perfectly!
The "Carbide Glass Breaker Bit" pairs great with your bit of choice
(Tungsten Carbide Glass Breaking tip / 1/4" Screwdriver)
just wish the plier tips together formed a 1/4" hex or from other comments a robertson #2 might be best in North America.
A Gerber Suspension NXT gives it healthy competition sub-7oz, pocket clip, sprung pliers, more tools all locking and outside opening - complete for FAR less $$$.
The Gerber Suspension NXT has too many tooks - thats why I love the skeletool - just the ones I need.
My NXT is still very hard to close locked tools
I use my lips to hold the bit when i switch.
That'll do - but this is much easier and quicker :)
the tool looks like a makeshift on the go tool, not made for big jobs. i just got one and when the time comes, i will try it.
I enjoy it and use it quite a bit
Should have one bit only Philips and flat
Yupp - and thats what we solve in this video.
Cool
👍
CX+ for scissors!
??? Is "CX+" a new model that has scissors instead of pliers? I'm not seeing that on Leatherman's website
@@GanderFlight no, it's just my wish
@@KurniadiPrathomo-sp5zd ahh - gotcha!
Agreed
👍🏻
Same exact thing happened with me I was fiddling with my zero turn and I had my skeletool I need pliers so I used it and snapped the pliers same was as you 😂😂
Major bummer right? Were you able to get it replaced under warranty?>
@@GanderFlight yeah I shipped it out hopefully I'll get it back soon
Nice video I think I buy a skeletal
Enjoy!
Should have been like that by default. Hopefully Leatherman notice this video.
Would be cool if it was!
Most people will never use anything but the knife and bottle opener
eh... I think the bit driver gets used a ton
This is exactly what I'm going to do with my Skeletool
It definitely helps!
SMH
Whats your favorite?
@@GanderFlightSorry for the late reply as I just saw this.
For everyday use: Rev
Heavier Duty; Surge
I keep a Micra and Style PS in my altoids tin in a leather belt pouch.
Enjoy.
Been doing this mod for like 7 years lol
It really should come this way...
@@GanderFlight IKR!!???
👍
Sadly long has LM gotten more publicity and cash issuing CLOSE TO PERFECT tools.
2 bits were cumbersome??? 😂😂😂
Having to swap two bits, one form each side of the handle versus flipping a single bit around -- yupp 100% cumbersome comparatively.
