No 6.5 needmore fan nor vortex. Would have gone with the 257 Weatherby
Should have gotten the 280ai.
New subscriber, keep us updated. That's a very nice rifle!
Thank you for the sub. I just checked out your channel and subbed as well. I will have a new video with an update coming out as soon as I get my scope back.
@@BigTimberLodge I don't have a lot of 6.5 Creedmoor content, but I did review a very nice custom rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor
@@ReloadingWeatherby I'll check it out!
Awesome
It sure is an awesome setup. I am excited to spend a decent amount of time with this hunting rig and do a follow up. Thank you for the sub.
I’ve had the same problems with some Hornady ammunition
I sent photos of the primers to Hornady and they want me to send the ammo into to them to see if they are off spec.
@@BigTimberLodge hopefully you can get some closure with all this. I know how frustrating it is whenever things keep going wrong with new rifles and scopes
@@noahhorinek I should be getting the scope back in less than 2 weeks. I made some adjustments to the Weatherby with the direction of a technician at the company. As soon as I get the scope back and mounted I will be testing everything out again and post a video so that those that want to follow along with this journey can, and maybe learn something from my hardships. I do have a good feeling that there wont be anymore failure to fires that are due to a light primer strike.
Would’ve gotten it in .300 WBY instead but definitely a beautiful rifle 👍
I would love to own that cartridge one day. This purchase was based off my needs for a certain style of hunting I am doing in Colorado. I hear the 300 WBY can easily take down anything in the Western hemisphere and a lot in Africa too.
@@BigTimberLodge beast of a cartridge, but a lot consider it an unnecessary .30 cal magnum because of the kick and the barrel burger that it is, but I just love the history of it, love that I get over 3200 FPS with 180gr out of mine. No need for holdover to about 300yds. Again beautiful rifle, should’ve been more patient when they were out of stock last year… good luck to you 👍
I had the same issue with hornady 223rem I had 2 out of 10 go off
You're the 3rd person beside myself in the comments of this video that has had that issue. I'm wondering in the QC at Hornady has gone down
@@BigTimberLodge that was just in my daughters bolt action I can’t remember if it was a 40 round box or a 50 round box I tried some in my ar as well same thing
I had a Hornady 6.5 round go click when I pulled trigger cost me a 150 class buck.
That breaks my heart to read
That’s why I load my own. I have taken all North American big game an never had a misfire. None!! 😀
I've had trouble with Hornady ammunition before.
How did you keep the grit from going in the screw holes on the mounts
If you're talking about lapping the rings, I used painters tape. I show how I did it in part 2.

Talley medium or high mounts? Thanks!
So I purchased the Talley 30mm Weatherby lightweight medium height ring
@@BigTimberLodge thank you so much!
What type of mounts do you put on
I used Talley lightweight rings
Did you get it fixed?
I think I did. There is a part 2 to this video showing what I went through.
Just bought the same rifle in 6.5-300. But I don’t understand putting heavy scopes on these…. Anyway I dropped a 3-9 Trijicon Accupoint on it. I’m also getting sub .500 groups. Great rifle…. It better be for what we paid for it!! Box test worked out perfect for me, so tough to say what’s going on. If you get a chance look through a Trijicon Accupoint. It’s Japanese glass so is super clear and bright.
Great to hear your setup ran the box text well. The LHT 3-15x42 weighs in at 19.1oz so I would still consider it a lightweight scope, but not an ultralight scope. I agree for the price we payed for these rigs they better be perfect.
19oz is not a heavy scope….
I agree
Yeah, they were not good primer strikes or you would of went bang.
Considering you've got about $5k invested, I would be totally pissed
Luckily I think got it fixed. I made a follow up video. But yeah out the box for that price I shouldn't be seeing these issues.
@@BigTimberLodge what was the problem with ignition ?
@@Clambelly the firing pin wasn't flush with the cocker inside the bolt. Also I think i had a bad box of Hornady so it was a prefect storm. Shallow primer strike with primers set too deep. After adjusting the firing pin I was able to get the two failures to fire to go bang.
@@BigTimberLodge Thanks again for your reply. Glad it all worked out ! I am curious, did you consider Christensen Arms vs. Weatherby, if so, what made you choose one over the other?
@@Clambelly That is a great question. Yes, I looked at both and ended up going with the Weatherby because it is the lightest in it's class. It is listed as 4.8lbs on Weatherby's website however when I got mine it was lighter than that. With the Razor HD LHT and Talley rings the rifle is sub 6lbs. I went this direction because last year I built a rifle off the Bergara HMR B14 Wilderness platform and although it is a tack driver, it weighs as much as a lead brick. So, I went the opposite direction with this build.
Vortex Scope made in China, why not an American made scope, say a Leupold………
Leupold are junk. Great glass, terrible mechanics unless you go with the Mk4 or mk5hd. If you're investing that much into a rifle might aswell buy a nightforce.
That one is made in Japan. Most leupold are China. Don’t care have both….but…. Facts matter
@@jpbaker1988 All Leupolds Scopes are made in Beaverton Oregon. Some glass is made in Japan. They are all stamped Made in the USA. Some Spotting Scopes and binoculars are made in Japan, the BX 4 and Bx 5s. The BX 1 and BX 2 Spotting scope and binoculars are made in China……. All Leupold Scopes are designed, machined and assembled in Beaverton….
Why would anyone spend that much money on a needmoor!
Buy a swarovski and boom optic problems are gone
If the LHT ends up not cutting it. I probably will go with Swarovski because they are great glass and lightweight
