Thanks for the review your video helps me make my decision on nice scope I just picked up today thanks a lot
I heard about this particular scope on a podcast that was about Vortex and included Corey your Optics Manager or one of the two Chris's, but they went into depth about the new gen Light Hunter Tactical scope. I really do like the feature set that it has, but without all the extra weight causing extras. The illuminated reticle can be rather nice in low light, early morning and evening conditions. I also like the Zero Lock feature and the low profile turret knobs. Practically their equivalent to the Leupold VX-5HD 3.5-15x44 scope with the Fire Dot reticle, that I have been looking at. Same price too. Not sure if I want to go with that one, the windplex or standard duplex. I have that Savage Model 110 Long Range Hunter that I told you about last summer/early fall and have a 20 MOA Blackhawk Rail on it, but I wouldn't mind moving the solid quality Redfield to another rifle and getting an even better piece since I am trying to set it up for out west hunting (hopefully a Wyoming mule deer and pronghorn combo hunt) this fall. Would I love to afford a high quality piece like this Razor HD LHT or the Leupold VX-5HD 3.5-15x44 in the $1000 range sure, but I am probably going to have to step down to the Viper lineup like HS or HSLR or the VX-3i in 4.5-14x50 or 40 with the Zero Lock and 30 mm tube.
Thanks for this really nice thorough overview and mild review since you have only used it on a few hunts out there Brady. Always enjoy learning and sharing about new products to help fellow outdoorsman and woman.
2 years later and this scope is now $1299 everywhere
In canada its gone up 50% in just 2 years lol
Vortex should’ve included the defenders cap with their higher end model scopes. Like the reticle and turret lock..👍
Just ordered one for my hell's canyon McMillan in 28 Nosler. Looking forward to trying it out.
That's awesome! Sounds like a shooter.
Exactly the scope I want.
Good video Brady,
I would like to see close up the trophy behind you, it looks beautiful , be safe and happy hunting.
Fantastic Review! I was on the fence of ths Razor the Viper PST gen 2 for my 300 WM. Thanks for a quality review. Subscribed
Awesome! Thank you!
@@danielfisher1741 I ended up going with the Razor LHT several months back after looking at several.
@@rickbottoms5260 after months of having it, how do you like it?
Bro, yes. I’m recently picky with reticles. I find a lot of the popular ones are a bit thick or cluttered. 19 oz very light. I can’t find anything lighter for illuminated scope with that mag range.
Agree - Most of the manufacturers are hung up on complicated and competition reticles - The HRS-5i illuminated is one of the most practical KISS reticles out there - Vortex hit that one out of the ball park
Do you have a 20 MOA rail on this set up? Also how many minutes of elevation are available with rev stop installed. Thanks in advance, love all the videos. Keep them coming!
I really like this and will probably order one but still considering another Leupold vx5 hd. Love the one I have now and it has everything this one has. Boils down to reticle and glass. So far, I do like this reticle better but not sure if the glass is better
Hey Tony. Thanks for checking out the video. The glass used in this scope is the same Razor quality throughout the line. The bigger heavier Gen 2 has the same glass just different optical systems. If you have any specific questions, our optics manager Cody Nelson is always willing to help out. You can call him at (702) 847-8747 | Ext. 2. He'd be happy to walk you through the differences.
Glass is better in the razor hd lht. I have both the razor and the vx5. The reticle on the razor is hands down better
Got a vortex razor AMG 6-24x50 for hunting a month ago. Dam, should have waited.
As nice as this is, I’ll probably stick with my Nightforce NX8 2.5-20 for hunting. Used it last October in New Mexico for elk. I was very confident mountain hiking with it knowing it is rock solid and that if I happened to bump it, it would still hold zero. It’s a few oz heavier but built like a tank.
Nice Reciew! Brady you should do a in-depth rifle setup.
If I remember right, he has a single shot bolt action rifle because he hand loads his ammo to an OAL to get it just off the lands. The OAL, however, is too long so the loaded rounds do not fit in the magazine. This is one of the weaknesses of the 300 win mag and a reason we are getting more modern designed cartridges such as the 300 PRC.
Check out some of his previous videos, I think he does a rifle set up.
Hey Glynn. Glad you enjoyed it! Since more and more people are asking, I'd be happy to run through my rifle setup. I've published a few articles over the years on bits and pieces of my setup, but it would make for a great video.
@Chris Evans - You have a phenomenal memory! I do run a single shot version on my long range version of my Browning X-Bolt 300 win mag. I handload them to .015 off the lands running 215 Berger Hybrids, which does come out to having a very long OAL. At first, I thought it would bug me only having a single shot, but it has never been an issue and I keep that two round holder on the side of my stock for those "just in case" moments. With practice, I've gotten very fast at loading another round in while on the range.

Thanks for sharing this video,do the Hash marks line up perfectly what’s the disadvantage of using a SFP over FFP.
We have an in depth article breaking down SFP and FFP that you can check out here: www.gohunt.com/read/skills/first-focal-plane-vs-second-focal-plane-riflescopes-for-hunting
It should be able to help you out. Thanks for watching our video!
If your using the scope for hunting you want a sfp. On a FFP scope it’s damn near impossible to use in low light situations. Scopes take in the most light when you’re on low magnification, and a ffp reticle will too small to see, and if you turn it up the scope won’t take in enough light to see good. It’s a damn mess.
Love this scope. I’m getting the 4.5-22z50 today. What cheek weld do you have on that rifle? I’m looking for something like that. Thank you
Hey Christopher. Brady is using the kydex cheek piece which is drilled to his rifle. Another great option that's made by Triad Tacticlal, is their Stock Pack. It is super comfortable, and has a zippered side if you wanted to put ammo or anything else in there. It uses velcro spacers underneath to adjust the cheek height. Super simple design! Here's the link: triadtactical.com/triad-stock-pack/
They also have a different version without the zippered pouch: triadtactical.com/triad-stock-pad/
And here are all their designs: triadtactical.com/triad-tactical/all-triad-stock-packs/
On one of the adjustable McMillan stocks... you can use this just as a pad: wiebad.com/mini-stock-pad/ The pad there is designed for certain rifle stocks.
Great video. Buying mine from a Reliable Gun source
That’s a sweet optic. I’m sure they don’t care what I think, but I think a much more interesting magnification range would have been 3.5-18; it’s still low enough on the bottom to be useful, but 18x is quite a bit more useful for target shooting, particularly at 100yds where if the glass is good enough you can see the holes in the paper, but 15x is pretty tough.
Or just a 4-20x... Not a lot of difference between 3&4x.
I wonder how this glad will compare to a vx6hd or a Zeiss conquest v4...
It would be nice to see a shoot-out between this scope and a VX5 3-15. Have someone shoot like 300, 600, and 1000 yards with similar rifles. Do some low light compares etc. Hmmmm?
Awesome feedback Vance. We will keep that in mind for a future video!
What power is the reticle usable ?
What "bulky items" and "features" did they get rid of on this scope? Sorry if this is a basic question, I just became aware of this scope today. I was all in on the PST Gen II until a few hours ago
Hey Seth, thanks for reaching out. Not a basic question at all. Our optics experts would love to help you out with this! Shoot them an email at optics@gohunt.com and they will get you taken care of. Best of luck this season!
Can you see the reticle without illumination some states you are not allowed to have illumination
Yes, the reticle is still very clear even without illumination.
KISS - This is one of Vortex's GREAT long-range hunting scopes. FFP is great for match shooters who are compeating in broad daylight and shooting at sationary white spray-painted steel gongs.
For seeing game in low light, and at closer ranges (inside 200Y) using the lower power - FFP is worthless. Second Focal Plane SFP is much more practical. The SFP light weight LHT 42mm with the HSR-5i reticle is just about PERFECT.
The simple red dot in the center does'nt kill your night vision by lighting up an entire Christmas Tree reticle - If, you would be using it as a true DMR. Home Run Vortex !!!
It would be nice if they made a 2-10 version for the rest of the hunting community that are competant to shoot out to 300 Y.
You’re either a bot or posted this on a lot of videos shilling.
@@lessforloans Have no idea what you are talking about?
Won't ever use SFP ever again after learning how to use FFP.
Which scope do you prefer the Leupold VX-lrp 3i or this new Vortex?
Eye relief on the LRP is trash. I wouldnt buy another ever again and wouldnt use it if it were free.
I just want a 52 or 56 objective capped turrets hold over FFP reticle 2.5 to 3 low end and 18 to 20 high with daylight bright reticle this comes close but the glass I’m sorry is not the best?🤯🔫🧨
Brady, I just purchased one of these and feel like the magnification adjustment ring is incredibly stiff, like to the point I can't make adjustments with one hand. Did you have any issue with this when using it? I know people prefer them stiff so they don't move accidentally, but it's sort of ridiculously stiff imo. Just looking for some feedback if it's just an issue with my scope or common across the board. Thanks in advance.
Mine is stiff too... I’m assuming it’ll loosen up over time/use
@@BuffaloTrace602 vortex offered a few technical fixes, I tried both but neither fixed it. Then I found MK machining sells a throw lever for it, which did the trick. Vortex offered to send it back to replace but it was already mounted and shooting lights out so I didn’t want to mess with a good thing.
Do they offer this scope in First focal plane? I really liked everything about this up until you said SFP. Thats a pretty big deal breaker for me.
Hey Nikitas. At this time this new LHT lineup is only available in SFP.
Do you know the specs on the 3-15x50 lht ? I am having a hard time finding out.
It’s mil turrets with a terrible reticle imo. I love the reticle in the MOA version but I’d like the 50mm objective with it lol
What's the details on that adjustable cheek piece?
It's a kydex adjustable cheek piece that Brady installed. It's made by Hawkeye Cutsom Cheek Rest.
That is a whole lot of rifle and scope for a Javelina.
Very true. But all I own are 300 win mags and I don't like the idea of having different calibers for different animals. I also only have one bow, arrow, broadhead setup for all the animals I bowhunt. I've taken a bull moose with the same arrow setup I killed a Coues deer with a few months apart. I go by what I trust, and so a big caliber works for me.
Appreciate you checking out the video.

Lol, this comment... I guess you only run a 10 gauge as well... doves and upland don’t stand a chance... never mind the practicality of the question more is better
If this was FFP for this price, it would be an absolute home run. Otherwise, it looks pretty nice.
Most scopes meant for hunting are SFP
Which ring set do you use?
They are the Vortex precision match rings. With a .97 ring height. Could have gotten away with using .87 ring height.
You can check them out here: vortexoptics.com/vortex-precision-matched-30mm-rings.html?vx_ring_height=927

Great review of the scope but no footage looking through it is a fail.
Thanks for the feedback, that's a great point you bring up and we'll be sure to included that in future video's!
What bi-pod do you have on that rifle set up?
Rugged Ridge Gen II Bipod. 7-10 inches. You can check it out here: shop.gohunt.com/collections/rugged-ridge/products/rugged-ridge-outdoor-gear-extreme-bipod
Awesome-thx very much. Stay well!
Hi what bipod are you using?
That is a Rugged Ridge Bipod. You can find it here: shop.gohunt.com/products/rugged-ridge-outdoor-gear-extreme-bipod
I’ll stick to Leopold. My first vortex failed on me. Warranty was excellent but wasn’t worth the time taken from a hunt.
I've heard of a lot more Leopold failures >>> and have one experience myself with a vx5hd
Only change is radical everything else is other then physical look is similar to everything else in the lineup.
Why not just run a PST if you want a FFP "tactical" scope to do some hunting and precision shooting?
This is half the weight
Have to start saving my pennies
Can't beat if for the price - a good investment into your hunting career - Love mine
What keeps the elevation dial from being bumped and moved like for the windage? NOTHING. Oops. All that and failed that significant detail... Leupold has locking turrets.
Where are they built and made?
Vortex is based out of Barneveld, Wisconsin. All of the Vortex products are designed in-house and then manufactured by other companies in the U.S., Japan, China and the Philippines. The exception is its Razor HD AMG rifle scope, which is manufactured in Barneveld. Thanks for watching!
It is best
Said scope 12 times in the first minute :O Wow !
This is crazy. These scopes are selling for 1800 now.
They’re like 1100 on GovX I’m looking at them rn
Where is this scope made though? AMG is made in America... Razor Gen 2 are made in Japan... everything else is made in the Philippines and China. Would be awesome if this one was made in America...but would settle with Japan as they are top tier as well.
Another review of a dial up scope with no illustrations of how well it does or doesn’t track. How about a simple box test. So many people slam leupy’s tracking but nobody shows how well other scopes do or don’t track.
Get some Talley rings, that scope is sitting way high. Look how much cheek riser you need
The reason it is sitting so high is I took off an older scope and just put this on quick since I had a hunt coming up in a few days. I had a bigger Vortex PST Gen 1 on there before I put this scope on. This gun also needs the cheek riser because I have a 20 MOA pic rail and the standard stock doesn't have much rise to it. Thanks for checking out the video.

I think Vortex has missed the boat, not going FFP on the is model such a shame. I will stick with my viper hs-lr for now ...
I'd agree. I own a SFP Vortex in a 2.5-10X range and I'm perfectly fine with it. Once you start getting above 10X I'd want a FFP scope.
Ffp isn't my first choice in a hunting scope... At low power the reticle becomes so small it is all but useless. Sure it has some advantages, but for hunting, not that important to me. Seems like sfp Scopes are lighter too.
Not sure why. On a 15x scope anytime you're using the reticle for holdovers you're likely at full power anyway. Now if it was 25x on the high end....that's another story.
FFP please. Hsr-5i for 50mm please. That's what alot of customers want. Please listen.
Yep. That was a head-scratcher.
Not if Vortex will fail but when.
At least you have lifetime warranty when it ruins your hunt.
B Ricks - Just curious how did your Vortex scope fail you? I've used several different Vortex scopes that I have purchased and none of them have failed me. The one I had on this rifle previously was a Vortex PST Gen 1 and I have roughly 18 kills with it (mostly mule deer, but several elk and a bear). It's seen a ton of hunts and still is going strong. Then on my muzzleloader that I previously used in Utah (scopes are legal), that scope is still performing flawlessly. I wouldn't say I'm hard on my optics, but I definitely don't baby them.
Just trying to get a feel for what might be going on.
Thanks for checking out the video! Hope you have a great season.

On one scope I had the elevation turret assembly completely fell off 2 weeks before was to depart on an Alaska hunt. Another scope completely quit responding to turret inputs. Also had 2 spotting scopes separate by the mounting collar. So yep I'm done with the vortex crap products. What a disappointment I really wanted to like them but they will fail every time.
b c what models were these scopes?
@@bc-jx7oy I am also curious what models you had issues with.
I have 2 first gen lh's that have been great. Haven't been gentle with them either
It sounds like a good light weight option. He makes it sound like it has some revolutionary features but there is absolutely nothing on this optic that is really new or game changing. If a scope in that price range with an elevation turret doesn't have a zero stop it's archaic in this day and age. 5x zoom ratio... please. Gone are the days of your dad's 3-9 power scopes. 5x is the minum if you are going to be dialing and shooting at extended ranges. It sound like a good light weight scope, but there are a lot of really good optics in that price range with more features. Honestly, it sounds over priced to me.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment! We live in a great age where we have lots of available options for all of us to use when it comes to optics and scopes. I'm hoping to continue to get some field time behind this scope, but so far, I do enjoy what this scope has. Along with that, I do enjoy that it doesn't have a bunch of extras that don't have a benefit for what I'd use this scope for. If someone's the person that is looking for one scope to satisfy a lot of use cases, then I'll stand behind my thoughts that this is the perfect do-it-all system.

@@GOHUNT It sounds like a solid optic. Thanks for the review.
It’s competitors are what? The vx5hd and maybe the Zeiss v4? It’s lighter than the v4. It’s priced exactly where the market has similar scopes, and I like the locking turret, I have spun my Zeiss v4.
I’m not excited about this move to super massive erectors like 6x+ you end up compromising in other areas and have awful tunneling, super dark on full power, and terrible parallax issues. None of which have any business on a hunting optic.
I agree its not revolutionary, but it is a good offering IMO and I look forward to putting mine through some torture.
@@str3tchr leupold, tract, maven, burris, sig sauer, Swarovski, zeiss, bushnell, nikon, nightforce, meopta, trijicon, Steiner, GPO, Athlon, etc. Etc. They all make scopes in that price range that are solid options. They all have different features and most are heavier, but not necessarily by much.
Like I said, this seems like a really solid lightweight option. But given vortex history of poor quality control, moving production of their Razor products to China (what I've read from multiple sources but don't take it as gospel), and my personal history with vortex, I would hesitate to pay the $$ for this optic they are asking.
Just my opinion though and I really hope they prove me wrong and it turns out to be a great value. I just feel there are much better options, even if you have to sacrifice a few ounces.
Let me know how yours does. I would love to hear or see more reviews on this.
I do disagree with you on the 6x variable power options. At that price range they are well made and the issues you describe are minimal. And in my opinion they have plenty of business on a hunting optic.
I agree with JMCmath. They arent offering anything new but they are doing it right. I'd rather have a scope that is built with the best materials and tolerances then a scope for the same price with more bells and whistles. A lot of alpha glass isn't all that feature rich but it still demands a premium for reliability and quality of craftsmanship.
I'd like to see what's under these turrets! At 19 oz this thing is great competition for the bushnell lrhs.
Nice scope but spend the extra money and buy a leupold VX6HD 3x18 or the 4x24 x52 I have.. best glass I have ever seen for a hunting scope.. it’s designed for hunting... the test is for 1/2 hr before first light and last light.. this scope is made in Japan.. the leupold , everything is made in Oregon.. the tube walls are tougher than anybody’s.. every scope they make goes on their punisher machine.. I have vortex scopes.. I know the warranty is good but so is the leupold.. you won’t have to use it.. and it’s for life.. after getting mine every scope I have compared to it are junk..
I have the VX6HD 4-24x52 also. I really love it. However, I have all ready had to send it back once for a black speck on the interior of the glass. Now i have to send it back because the elevation turret lines up in the middle of the hash mark at about 6 or 7 moa so i can't tell whether I'm dialing to 7 or 7 1/4 moa. It's still functional but for the money i paid for it it shouldn't do that. Also the illuminated reticle is not daylight bright on mine. Leupold will cover it under their warranty but I have to pay for shipping to their facility and insurance. Just my experience.
Also, and Brady may be able to clarify, but I think Vortex moved the production of their razors to China. Some or most of the components may still be made in Japan. I'm not sure.
Really doubt the scope tube is stronger than a Nf. 🤣
@@jeffreyd513 NF scopes are super heavy making them super tough. It would be interesting to compare it to the lighter NX8, however. For the weight, leupold hunting scopes are awesome. They just got a militaty contract for the Mark 5 HD I think, another sweet optic. One thing I really love about the VX6HD is the leveling feature. The reticle will flash if it is not horizontal eliminating the need for a bubble level. Really awesome feature. Might be overkill, but I'm not the person that wants multiple calibers for different game. All I own are 300 win mags. I love them! They shoot phenomenal, I can get fantastic results hand loading, or in a pinch, factory ammo is readily available if I'm in the middle of nowhere on a hunt and somehow forgot my ammo and need something in a pinch. Light weight.... this has no features to make it light weight, pretty sure the bolt on Level doesn’t lighten it up... oh and illuminated reticle that makes it illegal to use for hunting in my state...
Move to a better state then, sounds like a you problem
The level is an add on piece that I put on all my riflescopes, no matter the application. I want to ensure I level out my gun before I take any shot. Also, you can always just not put the battery in the scope. It's like a pickup truck, just because it has a trailer hitch package, doesn't mean I have to pull a trailer around all the time. Probably a bad comparison there, but just because something has a feature, doesn't mean you have to use it. Thanks for checking out the video.
