I have been detailing cars for over 20 years and have learned many tricks and hacks along the way. Today, you'll learn how to defog car windows quickly, using proven methods!
Windows fog up because the colder outside temperature cools the glass and the warmer air in the car causes moisture to condense on the inside of the windows. This is mostly the case during the winter months or early in the morning.
In this video, you’ll find out the simple steps you can take to make sure you get rid of that fog quickly and also how you can prevent windows from fogging up in the future. One problem though, foggy windows often happen when its really cold and/or raining outside, so you DON'T want to open the windows. THE SOLUTION IS THIS:
Step 1, Turn you defog fan on HIGH
Step 2, Set the temperature to MEDIUM heat,
Step 3, Run the wipers on the FASTEST setting AND CONTINUE to run them (even after the rain has cleared) for about a minute until the fog clears. You have to get the exterior of the windshield as dry as possible, otherwise the moisture will retain the cold air and prevent the heat in the cabin from transferring to the outter edge of the glass.
Basically the fog eliminates when the difference between the interior and exterior temperatures are less extreme.

Couple more tips that I've found actually work. Make sure the car is as dry inside as possible. Use rubber mats so you can quickly throw out any water from snow on your shoes. Lower the sun visors if you're waiting for the screen to de-mist, it helps trap the warm air from the AC and speeds up the process quite a bit.

I was never a fan of anti fog products. For me spotless grease free glass, and as dry as possible carpets always worked for me. Also cracking open a window. Great video

@@kdm_kata84 Of course it does. Aircon literally removes water from the air, that is what it does. The water condensing on your windows due to temperature difference is what the "fog" is.

Will this help if my car is fogging on the rain, even if the A/C is blasting the windows

Open the window as small as you can just to let air in no rain the turn the heater to cold then turn it on to high setting so it's cold inside as well as out side the car will not mist up

So I just wanted to ask, on a rainy day if I want to use my car, I get in and see the windscreen is all fogged up, I follow your instructions to defog it.. once it’s all defogged, do I switch off the heater ac etc and use the wipers only.. or do you have to keep everything on to stop it misting again.
Also to turn the ac on do you recommend that the car engine stays on first for a while

Here in Scandinavia we have cold winters as well.....& this winter i´ve had a spray bottle of over 90% proof IPA/Isopropyl alcohol lying in the car & used it to spray the front wind shield, side windows & side mirrors (on the outside) as a fast way to clear ice.....which really worked very well (made sure not to get it on the paint...only on the glass).....beats having to scrape & scrape....
Yup that's also a great tip to prevent frost buildup on the exterior glass! ;)
Same here in rainy Seattle: I use 99% IPA in a spray bottle and a clean dry cloth

I'm in Florida with the heat is just impossible!
I just clean then use shaving cream, rub it in until it disappears let it dry and wipe again with a clean microfiber and they don't fog up for about a month. Never done me wrong lol

Roll down the windows in a severe thunderstorm... Turn on the Ac that doesn't work... Turn the recirculation off and suck in the sweet smelling antifreeze from under your hood... All sounds like good advice. Hats off!

I turned on ac and heater and it worked
Cool I liked the video before I even watched it. You can make the interior heat up faster. It works for me but I don't if it will work for you but try it. Ok put the fan on all the way, heater on all the way, recirculation button on, and the controls on the center vents. Try it and see if it works.

@@amaim23 he means the airconditioning in the car itself. If u set it on cold and have it running for about 2 mins the condens inside of the car dissapears. You can also just drive with your window open if your aircon doesnt work.
Hi Pan, All I do is put on the a/c and set the air to blow directly on the windshield and not through the whole car. The fog disappears almost instantly.
Does this apply in warm temperatures, too (summer)? Where I am it cools down pretty drastically at nights and gets hot during the day. Until the sun has completely risen, the condensation on the exterior is pretty serious. Windows down seemingly makes things worse and sometimes I drive with wipers on. I can't figure out the right balance to keep the fogging down.

If your car has an "auto" mode on the AC. Try to use it. Had the same problem for almost a year until I read my car's manual. Also, i always keep my temperature between 20to23 degrees celsius and on "auto" mode.
Warm air can contain and hold more moisture. A/C decreases the amount of moisture. So find the sweet spot in this combination and that's all you can do. But, as written in one of the replies, make sure the inside of your car is fully dry. Wet fabric or doormats are just terrible and fogging everything up.
Very interesting! Pan, what surfaces can you apply the anti-fog to? I was wondering if this would work for snowmobile helmets? Great tips though, thanks for sharing.

hey pan what can you recommend for preventing ice forming on the windshield
I make my own de icer with 2 parts isopropyl alcohol 1 part water and a 1/2 tbsp of dish soap for every 8 oz I use. Spray it on before the ice accumulates it will prevent it from sticking or if you forget spray it on the ice wait one minute then scrape it off. Works for frozen doors and locks as well. You can also get de icing wiper fluid too.
does this work against fogs on the exterior of the windows and windscreen too other than the interior...?

In an emergency, swipe a cigarette against the fogged glass.
One additional step when cleaning the glass use a scrub pad or magic eraser to remove any “vinyl fog” from glass. Just helps ensure super clean glass.

Works too. Last time I did inside glass I used magic eraser and 50 percent IPA. The IPA thing came from Ammo Larry.

How long does it last?
How would you do this in a tunnel though? My cousin drove into a tunnel and the windshield started fogging up extremely fast, which was a bit of a scary experience for him. I guess rolling down windows and turning off air circulation isn't an option in a tunnel due to the exhaust fumes you'll get inside the car.
I think it's because of the rapid temp change.

I have a auto temp system and do NOT have a outside option now what do I do because when I turn the heater on I get bad fog like I can smell antifreeze ever so lightly

I'm new to gyeon products I just started using their q2 tire and really like it. How long does the anti fog last per application?
On the website it reckons about two months
1 to 2 months in real life conditions.
Does it work in tinted windows!? My wife’s card has the front windshield tinted.
I live in a mountainous area, each day I drive down the mountain is it right or wrong to assume the change in temperature as I drive down could also contribute to the window fogging up
clean the inside of your windows with dish washign detergent then wipe them with shavign cream This will keep them from fogging up

I'm in Florida... the fog is on the OUTSIDE. Wipers and Rain-X don't help. Heat does, but it takes a few minutes.
Using the AC works like a charm, unfortunately, I'm up north and can't open my windows because they're frozen shut. -14 below zero celsius today and that's nothing. We have cold snaps that are longer and much colder. And, I use shaving cream on the inside of the windows.
I have a old car parked out side but lately in the cold weather condensation is building up on the inside now I'm not opening the car so no cold air is getting unwell the car is not warm on the inside why would this be happening or how do I stop it

Pan I need your help. I got the Karcher k5 and the Wands that came with it don’t have a 1/4 inch fitting to fit my foam cannon and I can’t find the wand online that does. Any ideas?
For Karcher, you need a special adapter for K series pressure washers.

In my country the windshield get foged up/ humid from the outside, is there a solution for that?
But you also still need to get that moisture out of the air. You can buy 1 lb and 5 lb bottles of desiccant beads on Amazon for relatively cheap. Then take some muslin bags, the eight-by-ten are perfect, or use a couple of old socks preferably tube socks with one inside the other. You're going to want to use a couple of them in the vehicle with the beads. They will absorb the moisture that builds up inside the car. Right now I have a vehicle that I just purchased in June that really has severe moisture problems on the Windows overnight. I've honestly never seen a car this bad. So I'm going to be purchasing the beads to try to alleviate this issue.
How on earth do you turn on both at once, I dont have a dial for my ac, just a button and temp controls, so if my heater is on (warm air) my car wont let me turn on my ac, I press the button and it flashes and then turns off. I know I can probably crack my windows but when its 16 degrees farenheit outside I dont want to drive the interstate for 5 hours with my windows cracked open

I am trying to buy time and also save money to get my heater core fixed but my windows are fogged up when I get off of work in the we hours in the morning
My problem is that when I get rid of the fog,i still have streaks from where i wiped the window.Not so noticeable during the day but I hate it at night when I am trying to see through my windshield,and the streaks and new fog combine with the headlights from oncoming traffic.

The water in my house was already soft to begin with (new construction, and I live in a city with super clean water) but I added the system as an extra step. Can the Gyeon anti fog go on tinted windows too?
Not sure. We usually only apply this to the windshield. You’d have to email Gyeon customer service and ask.
Best thing is to put a layer of shaving foam and rub it clean with microfiber towel.It really works.

What about when it's hot and muggy outside and I'm trying to use my ac but my windshield keeps fogging up on the inside? Houston is terrible about this
Exactly! Houston has had hot, muggy rainy days for over a month! I cannot figure out what would help. Very distracting..wipers on/off..windows up/down. I need to be able to see in this insane traffic!

The Gyeon anti fog is this haze free after applying ? i clean the windschield on the inside with eraser and used carpo fog fight ! now i have a lot of haze on the surface if i buff with the mf i gets away after 30sec it came back again . i don't get clean windows. if i used eraser again the glass surface is clean with no haze .
But the anti fog is gone too .
I've heard that too about fog fight. doesn't seem to work properly anyway you apply it. hoping Gyeon would be better.

When starting a detailing company, should you start it on the countryside where competition is low but also the demand or should you try to start i a main city. I live 50 kilometres from Vienna (Austria) in a small city (7000 people) but there are many small cities and villages nearby. I am thinking about starting here, I love Vienna but Im not a big city guy in general. And what would you say would be a good starting budget (Tools, maybe used old van or wagon/kombi, chemicals,ect...) About 15 000 Euros?

anti-fog products never work. why? they "work" cause they resist fogging up for a short time after application, but 1) you can see greasy residue in night driving while lights come through it and, the worst, 2) the moisture condenses on the surface and starts to drip onto your dash instead of fogging. So you get partly greasy dripping all over the dash and greasy streaks on the glass while it flows down.

It depends on too many factors to say exactly. It varies depending on your climate, if the car is garaged or constantly exposed to the elements...

One doubt.. Turning the heater and A.C both on.. I thought when u turn the knob from blue to red, no matter u turn the A.C on or off, it will be only heater on, not the A.C..

No, but the important were is that the air passes by the Condenser That's going to get the humidity out of the air and that's what's going to Defog the window. If you want to now how AC blows hot air see the video about portable air conditioning from the channel technology connections
