Way ahead of you on this. I took all the windows out of my car and haven't had a problem since!
Wow a million dollar idea
Now you just have to defog your goggles!
That's actually genius!!! and lots of fresh air!!! :)

Since I never clean the interior of my windows, I've always had interior fogging issues. I accidentally discovered the AC trick years ago, so I've pretended to be a genius about it. I can't believe it's never occurred to me that dirty windows would attract/hold more condensation. Thank you, Scotty, for educating this numbskull! Think I'll go clean my windows now.
me too. i never understood why, in the winter, on defrost mode, using cold air worked better than warm air. It's cuz like Scotty said, the cold air dried the air/fog. And plus, the hot air wasn't really hot enough until the engine warmed up. I think the best thing to do is leave the windows cracked about a half inch. No harm no foul. (But perhaps no stereo come morning).
I have tried air conditioning on but still getting foggy
When I start driving but when I stop it clears up and foggy again as soon as I start driving 😢
@@MP-hw6sx Sounds like your AC ISN'T working!

That anti-fog stuff tends to attract dirt & dust as well. If you use it you have to clean the insides of your windows a LOT more often.
I had my head hanging out the window like Ace Ventura the other day...
Now, I SEE why!
Thanxs, Scotty!
Always a fan.
Always look to your channel first for pointers.
N. H. Moreno omg lmao!!!
Should be part of the driving test, amazed at how many folk don't know this
I've totally been turning my AC off every time it comes on when I hit the defrost button. I feel pretty silly now, but I'm glad I know. my only question is: does running the heater and the AC put any additional strain on the AC?
NewGoldStandard it's no worse than running it on a hot day
Newer nissans lock the a/c on when the fan is on the windshield
all this time i thought there was some rong with my ac!! and i feel pretty silly also thanks for speaking up,, and i dont think it puts extra strain on the ac,, if it was made to do that !!??
NewGoldStandard: I didn't think there was a way to turn it off, it's usually automatic when it's turned to defrost. Mine is, you can't turn it off. I just pull the relay under the hood fuse box, unless newer models you can.
I wouldnt say "extra" strain but just more wear and tear eating away at the envitable time clock of your compressor.
Thanks for this video! All my friends think I'm crazy cuz I always turn the A/C on full blast when Windows fog up!! This is proof I am right!! 👍🏼😄💃🏼
That still don't mean you ain't crazy

This was actually quite a useful video and addresses a major safety issue, coz visibility is everything while driving.
Shaving Cream works great especially on bathroom mirrors, I'm sure it will work great on car windows too.
Speech is Violent To Keep You Silent ... I was actually going to ask about this. Is it also true for a tiny amount of dish soap? I have MAJOR problems with motorcycle helmet face shields fogging up, and also, my home windows that fog up really bad because of insanely high heat and humidity outside while I have extremely cold A/C settings inside. I’ve got security cameras in those windows that are blinded by the condensation. Will dish soap work?
@@SteveHacker That's a good question, I know watered down dish soap leaves a nice streak free finish on glass when used like Windex - But I've never tried it as anti fog.
Shaving cream works on the windshield, also. I tried.
@@SteveHacker
Try shaving cream.
@@SteveHacker I have the same problem.i hate it.shaving cream and dish soap didnt work too good when I tried.
Hurricane season in NY is the worst, Humidity at 100% constant rain and extreme heat. Nothing can defog my windshield when its raining during those months.

So..almost six minutes and your secret is clean your windows ? Brilliant.

Another great tip from a time tested, trustworthy and reliable source of wisdom, Scotty Kilmer!
IG and Scott towels are also both time tested and reliable. (Heres a tip: A stitch in time saves 9:
Instead of simply 'spray/wipe/done', best to buff until no streaks are visible. Spending a little more time and attention to detail will help ensure your windows stay looking great longer and reduce the overall times needed for reapplication.)
I really like this guy he is a basic person not trying to make it rich just trying to help and for that I say thank you
Never have foggy car windows again!!! Simply apply sledge hammer to window.
That sounds like a Russian solution! 😁
Instructions unclear. Hand stuck in toaster
Problem solved 😂😂😂💀💀💀
Hey! Now I can see out my windshield!
But what do I do about the bugs?
Scotty should I buy a Chevy Volt?
As always, great entertaining info, Mr. Scotty. I like blue shop towels, too. Pricey but worth it.
I repair small engine equipment as a hobby and many of the principles apply to cars. But your tips really help me to get past the point of knowing just enough to get myself in trouble. Like a vehicle's heater not blowing hot because the coolant is low. Wow, never would have thought of that!
Hey Scotty, Love your channel. Big hint!!!! No ammonia cleaners if you've got window film applied to the insides of your windows. It rots the film badly. So after I got new film applied, I started using an ammonia free cleaner that comes in a spray can. It's good stuff and cuts the dog drool and nose prints off my windows really well.
Wow great i turned on emergency lights and stopped my vehicle because of fog when i watched this video it solved my problem now i started driving with clear windshield thanks❤

Shop towels are great!
Very useful little treats!
Those blue towels are the bomb. They are basically paper towels but they are so tough you can literally run them through the washing machine and reuse them!
They're basically paper towels on steroids. Good for buffing and hand drying as well since you can squeeze the water out of them and reuse to your heart's content.
I wrap them around hot dogs and eat them!!!
Especially scotty brand!
@@willywayne5299 that sounds pretty appetizing
Scotty, you are a wealth of information. I've learned a lot more since watching your videos! Keep 'em coming! Thanks!
If you're technique produces a streaky windshield try this.
I prefer a small hand held rubber squeegee. Apply window cleaner and clean with shop towels, then squeegee the moist excess. I usually pull the squeegee from bottom of windshield to the top. Wipe the squeegee after each full stroke.
But celicas don’t get foggy windows....

Anti Fog sprays are great on the bathroom mirror . 😅

Scotty it is so cold out when this happens and the engine is cold. I don't have time to wait for the engine too warm up. I have to get to work.
Floyd R. Turbo start it 5-10 minutes before you head out. Or just wait about 2 minutes idling and then get driving steadily. Car should be good and warm for you at that point
Wait 2-3 minutes before heading out if you're in a hurry. Otherwise, newer cars are technically good to go and all warmed up in less than a minute, assuming you're not driving it around like a Nascar lol.
That being said, I'd still take the extra time regardless. Could use it to get your bearings straight or set up a playlist for your radio before heading out.
I’ve two sets of socks filled with silicone cat litter put under the seat and in the boot. I barely had fogged up windows since I put them in. It happens from time to time but way less than without them. Try it.

Thank you! Useful info about the AC compressor 😊
Those towels are soft and strong! 🙏
ALSO- if you find your windows fog up more when you you turn on your defroster, you may have a leak in your evaporator core and heather core like me! Pretty sure th heater core started leaking then caused corrosion of the evaporator.

Good hint for keeping the inside windows from fogging up, First clean the window, dry and wipe shaving cream onto the window, wipe to dry it clear with clean rag, old sock or news paper.

REV UP (AND REV DOWN) YOUR FOGGY ELECTRIC WINDOWS!!!
A/C compressors are dead on arrival with my cars. That's fine GM quality for ya.
It's very confusing on a humid summer morning. Not sure to blast warm or cool air to clear it so I do both. =\
K05 T4R I just unplugged the thing
Reduce wear and tear and little better gas mileage
Put windows down a bit and heat on
Can’t do this with limousines and paying customers though
They sell aftermarket A/C compressor bypass pulleys that work really well. I recommend installing one if you dont mind not having AC
@@JT-91 I wouldn't mind not having AC in my winter beater! I'll consider the bypass since I already have to replace the squeaking belt. As for my restored '99 Eclipse (summer car), not sure what's up. The line was clogged with like 40 PSI of refrigerant but blows warm so I purged it. There's no winning. T_T
@@DareToBeDeviant It's a common problem on 90-early 00s GM vehicles. They engineered the compressor to fail. I was tired of dealing with it on my blazer so i installed the bypass. I had to make custom bolts for it but that wasnt hard with an angle grinder.
K05 T4R 😁👍
Invisible glass is a great glass cleaner. Works as advertised and a little goes a long way.
😂 Lmao I laugh when he said “stoner glass cleaner”
All that burning resin residue needs a special glass cleaner.
I love stoner glass cleaner. I do detailing on the side, and it's good glass cleaner
So heater on highest setting full blast + AC on +defrost on= got it
xxXRuby RedXxx I have an older car so I have to choose one or the other :(
@@joshisajedi2461 I would go with A/C, I find cold A/C air works just as well, unless the windshield is actually really cold. I also keep the air on recirculating, as the A/C will eventually completely dry the air out, as opposed to bringing in fresh air that has moisture in it.
HAN SOLO - Well now my heater doesn’t work at all either. I can’t even get the vents to work.
Yep .... clean windows is my first go to! Nothing like a vehicle with crystal clear and clean glass!
I wish I could go back to the days when people used horses instead of cars.
I felt the same thing as well but I forgot about all the poo that's going to be left on the streets and unless you have a cart it will be freezing in cold climate countries. Think of it as riding a motor bike that runs on food and water not petrol😂
Henry Fuentes Riccardi 10-4 dinosaur
If you clean the windows first let them dry. You can then apply shaving cream to the interior glass. This will prevent fogging on the inside. Last about 3 months before reapplying needed.
I liked how you added the Y at the end of the Scott towels 😁
You can turn your heater on and leave a window open just a crack, the outside air can come in, and the warmer interior temperature will help to prevent condensation. Do it at the start of your drive time before your windows become foggy and before you need to use the defrost cycle to clear them.
shaving cream will work too my wife said
You are crazy when you speak, but a genius when you explain!
I love your way!
"stoner fog cleaner!" 😁😁🤣
This is the many reasons why i love Scotty Kilmer
oh this is ridiculous. A real driver knows the road route and situations by monitoring the palm of the hand.
I keep a charcoal de-humidifier bag in the car. It absorbs moisture so there’s nothing to condense into fog on the inside of the windshield.
I don't even no why i watched this but the sound of his voice is jokes 🤣
Ordinary soap works well. Rub a bar of soap on a damp rag and use the rag to wipe the inside of the windshield and any other window you want to keep clear. Buff the soapy surface with a soft cloth or paper towel until it is clear and dry. I tried it and it kept my windshield condensation-free for 4-5 months. The same trick works on diving masks and mountaineering goggles.
@scotty. I know a good lifehack for that. If you put at night a bucket of boiling hot water in your front seat. In the morning when you come in the car it gonna be cold but not foggy. Then u just throw the water out. Or if you buy one of those 12V Cup Warmers and have them on near the window for the whole night.
Just use WD40 on your window or maybe cooking oil......
WD40??
@@sl4983 no never do this lol
Here in Florida heat doesn't work. The AC will clear it almost instantly. When I lived in Ohio I used to get an anti fog treatment for my eye glasses. Can not remember the name of it. It would be vary hazy when you put on and let dry. After you rub it clear again it would never fog again. That is what I used on my windshield while there. Came to Florida and couldn't find it anymore. That was 40 years ago. That is why I don't remember the name.
Does anyone ever win? lol
my only problem with using AC with the defogger is fuel consumption, here in Canada in winter I have to turn the car on for a while before driving , leave it on full blast hot defogger with AC on, I found a trick on youtube for my 2010 civic that makes u disable AC with defogger it comes handy if u want to turn AC off for a while but eventually it will fog again.
My heater fan broke one winter. I put a bunch of rice in an old sock and that dried the air out nicely.
I use the rainx wipes not the spray. They definitely help but does not solve the problem. I’m gonna try to get them clean per Scott’s instruction!
SAve time on watching video CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS
"clean, non-offensive comment" - hahaha
oh damn,you stole my thunder.
Shaving cream wiped on windshield is the best defogger. (Wipe on, wait a minute, then wipe off DanielSan)
You know them silicon bead packs you get with everything from new shoes to beef jerky? Collect those and put them in a bag. I use a crown royal cloth bag and its about 1/4 full. I sew the thing shut and cut just under the crown logo. And velcro it to the back of my rear view mirror. My windows never fog up any more in my chevy cavalier. As for my larger VW passat TDI im having a more difficult time making it work like the cavalier, i can rest the bag on the dash while im not driving so i don't have to wait for the driver side to defog. Just an idea for ya guys. Im sure there's a better way to do my trick but y'all are creative humans, im sure you'll run with it.
keep up the greaat work Scotty. I really learn alot of money saving ideas
This was really helpful. I never understood why the AC turn on if I have the heat on in winter
My problem is my ac/heater has completely died on me. I hope cleaning the windshield helps 🤔
Thank you. Going to try the Invisible Glass today.
There's also those little jars of Anti-Fog stuff for Eyewear. It's safe for using by your eyes, so it's not going to hurt sensitive lungs or be an eye irritant. It's about $8-$10 a jar, but it works wonders and a little goes a long way. I also use a couple of socks filled with Pure Silica Cat Litter. It works just like those little desiccant packs you get in your new shoes but on a much larger scale. If you don't wanna make them then you can buy one at a store. They have automotive versions in the home section of stores, and I suggest the kind that's made for a closet because it hangs on a garment hook in a car or anything like a support rod on a headrest because it's got a hanger type hook. It pulls in the water in the vehicle & then traps it inside a pouch that you can see. It's clear, so just mark the water levels and take them out (I suggest at least two for a 4 door, six to eight for a big suv) when the water level stays the same for at least one week. Your vehicle won't fog up if you have good weather stripping & you've removed all of the moisture from inside the vehicle. Hope this helps you folk out! I guarantee that it works if you follow what I said. If you live in a really humid area, then leave the moisture trapping packs in your vehicle all of the time.
