Drop the steering wheel all the way down so it's not in your way as much
this is a genius idea - no idea why I didn't think of this!
Tip: if you clean with vertical strokes inside the car, use horizontal strokes on the outside of the windshield. That way you can tell which side any smudges are on.
That's just how I do it.
I wipe horizontally and then vertically. Probably doesn't matter much.
The point was use a different direction outside so you know where a vertical streak is vs where a horizontal one is afterwards. @brookswilson1072
I’ve always done that (yeah right, great point!)
Genius
Detailer here….
Two waffle weave microfiber towels, and a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water.
Either spray onto windshield or first towel, and clean the windshield… Then use the second towel to fully dry and buff out any leftover streaks.
This. I'm in the same line of work, use the same method. Somehow, no one talks about it on RUclips tutorials despite every detailer I know doing this.
So, basically just watch the video.
Thank you for sharing your tip! Diffently will try your way.👍🏻
@@illiniwoodSo basically you didn't read his comment. Specific micro towel and a different cleaning solution.
@@areyoukidding1431 Your cleaning a windshield, not building a rocket engine.
The alcohol bottle hack is genius. I never would've thought of doing that. Great vid!
I feel so stupid for never thinking to put down an old towel on the dashboard to catch drips. It's so simple 😂
After cleaning inside and outside, go back and put Rain-X inside and outside….you’ll be glad you did in winter with a clear view, no fogging, no ice sticking….
aren't you supposed to use a separate RainX product for the interior of windows? i thought they had it formulated differently for window fog or something
thank you ! 🤗 just two days ago I sat on my partner's car and asked to turn the windshield wipers on , only to realise the fogginess was on the inside 😅 🤦 now thanks to your videos we know how we can clean it 🙂
I quite literally did this yesterday to my mom’s car before she went on a weekend trip. I wish this had been posted 24 hours ago. I would’ve used straight alcohol and better quality towels. I used my diy cleaner with Dawn and alcohol and a stack of cheap Amazon basics microfiber towels. It worked perfectly well, but it took forever to dry up all the moisture and buff the streaks. Next time, I’ll do it this way and save myself the back pain.
This guy is frigging brilliant.
Thanks for watching! 🙂
You’re not his girlfriend are you?
@gradysullivan6679 No, I'm not. Have you seen his videos? The guy cleans some of the most disgusting and hardest things to clean in the most efficient, professional and pain-free way possible. Can you do that?
@@gradysullivan6679the guy is clearly gay
This is something I struggle with, but I've also never used 2 towels. I'll try this next time I clean my windshield!
Two towels is absolutely essential. Otherwise you're just taking the filmy residue buildup, dissolving it a little with the cleaner and swirling it around a little, and then letting it dry right back on the windshield once the cleaner evaporates off. You're left with the same film, just moved around a bit. The second towel will actually soak up and wipe off all the crud and oily mess, though, even if it can take some serious elbow grease to get all of it off if it's been building up for a while. Then when it's all dry, no streaks from the buildup will appear because you took it all off with that second towel.
This works great on car windows/windshields, but it's also super effective on residential windows and other glass (shower doors, etc.), and it'll get your mirrors perfectly streak free, too!
Wish more RUclips videos were as simple and straightforward as this. Thank you!
Thanks for the tip with buffing with the second cloth, that totally (and finally) did the trick ❤
Yes and yes. Excellent suggestions! Only thing I might add is that if you have a lot of buildup from degassing of the plastics in the car like the dash and trim pieces, you'll end up with an oily plastic byproduct coating it. Window cleaner usually won't touch that, and isopropyl ends up making the scrubbing/buffing process for that 2nd towel take much longer than necessary because it's not QUITE powerful enough. If that's the case, using either a heavy-duty degreaser (Super Clean, etc) or a great dish soap (like Dawn, consumer or pro versions) will make really quick work of that film and it can be easily wiped away. I use acetone personally, because it's even quicker and easier, but that's a big risk because it can damage the trim permanently quite quickly, so thats a "use at your own risk" product for this.
Also, i find that getting a windshield tool like they have at the auto parts store really helps a lot, and if you open the door and stand OUTSIDE the car while using it instead of sitting in one of the seats, the uncomfortable arm contortions are kept to a minimum. It's way more comfortable in my opinion, especially when you're doing detail work all day for a living like myself. Gotta keep your body in as good shape as possible for that job, as you well know in yours!
Regardless, this is a GREAT guide to the basics, and I'm so glad to see someone promoting the two towel method and isopropyl alcohol. Those are mainstays in my line of work, and it's refreshing to see someone get the correct information out. Well done, sir, great quality content as usual!
i enjoy all your "HANDS-ON" advice/tips, keep them coming...
Glad you like them, Many more to come!
Cleaning the inside windows is an overlooked and underrated maintenance item. People need to do it more often. It’s really not that hard.
You wouldn't believe what a workout this is for short people!
I agree! My arms are too short to reach all the way down inside.
Great cleaning tip, my windshield is filthy! Was wondering the best way to clean it, perfect timing for the video. And how did I not know that you had a RUclips channel until today? Just subscribed. Thank you Brandon for all your cleaning knowledge!
I've tried so SO many things for the inside of a windshield before (including this method) and the only thing that works 100% of the time is treating it like you're washing up a glass in your sink. Just use whatever detergent you use to do the dishes, warm water and a sponge. You don't want the sponge sopping wet obviously but you do want enough detergent/water in it to cut through all the grime. Then you dry and buff with a microfiber towel. Absolutely zero streaks or haze every single time. I do like the towel on the dashboard idea though because when you're doing the dry and buff step you can't let it touch the dash.
Thanks so much. I was able to remove all the streaks and smudges with a micro fiber tall and rubbing alcohal. My windows are now crystal clear.
I'll be dipped it worked😊
Another tip: lean back facing the mirror with the back of your head on the dash … it’s a more natural position to clean the harsh angle.
I have always tried to clean windows in good sunlight. You need to dry it quickly but at least you can see all the streaks. I use detergent for an initial wash, water with a drop of vinegar to rinse and prevent water marks. I used to use endless amounts of paper towels being careful to avoid scratching the glass but you can wash and dry microfibre cloths so I will give those a go.
I notice you wore gloves! Great way to avoid grease from your fingers going onto the cloths and windows!! Thanks.
Thank you so much for posting this!
I've done this and it works great! Another great use of the alcohol in a spray bottle is insect killer. When the weather is nice and we sit on the porch in the evenings we each have a bottle! If a gnat or mosquito drifts by, spray it and it immediately drops to the ground. We also use it on stink bugs and other pests. I also have a bottle by the kitchen sink for any gnats of fruit flies. The only thing we have found that it damages is finished wood so we avoid that.
Thank you so much for your video I cleaned the inside of my windows as you suggested and they are spotless the cleaners they have ever been.
Thank you for using a product that I have at home and don’t need to buy!
I was going to request this the next time you asked us for requests. Perfect timing!
That’s awesome to hear!
How often does he ask for requests?
I haven't washed a weighted blanket (which I try to minimally use because of)
I usually vacuum clean it but idk how to wash it and would love tips.
I did exactly as you said and upon finishing, (and feeling proud of finally such a good job) a seagull flew over crapped mightily on my windshield. The alcohol I used after that was for me.
Bro lol fuck birds now fr every since I got my scat 2 months ago I clean it go back out lil later either shit or pollen everywhere lol. Cars red so they absolutely target it
I am so glad I found your videos!
Two things I find work well for me: first, never clean your windows in the sun ANYTIME. Second, I live in northern Canada, so it gets pretty cold in winter. Even if it is pretty cold out, you can use -35° (winter) windshield washer fluid in a spray bottle to clean your interior windows, especially the windshield. Do not spray cold fluid onto a warm window as the different temperatures may cauase the glass to shatter; best to clean, then warm. I've been doing this for many years with no streaks either.
One day I had to clean my semi's cab windows, but there was no "glass cleaner" available. So, a clean windshield being a must, I just used the WW fluid. I've been doing it ever since. Cheers.
For really hazy windshields a Magic Eraser or Simple Green will cut the grime and then you can come in with the alcohol and/or glass cleaner.
I will be doing this later today. Thx Brandon.😊 i absolutely love your channel
Awesome! Thanks so much for subscribing and watching 🙂
Thanks - i was looking for this 😊
Happy to help!
I love this channel.
Awesome tips!
Thank you!
Nice tip! Use dishwashing liquid warm water to clean the windshield , squeegee the excess, then use distilled water and alcohol 50/50 … it will be even more effective , I know it’s a process 😅
Works great and goes fast. I turned my car so it was facing the early morning sun. 60 degree temperature. It was easier to see all the film.
😭 thank you!!!
Help us know how to clean foggy headlights!! Thanks, Brandon!!!
So in many cases it’s best to get one of the special kits to restore them. That being said I did have some success a while back with this hack - www.tiktok.com/t/ZPR7s4aeN/
Once the oxidation is gone it’s also a good idea to look into sealing them if possible.
To avoid getting the mist on the interior just spray into the cloth and start wiping. Much faster and more saves more materials.
I think most of us really want to know if it’s tinted safe for windows, but I wouldn’t wish to see how you would do it with the foam too like, do you put it directly to the glass since there’s the sun or on the microfiber
I like your presentation.
New subscriber.
Good Job
Thank you my guy. Didn’t know 70% isopropyl alcohol works just as good. Clean and disinfected!! Well played sir
Use a swiffer with some of the extensions removed to make it squeegee length and put a shop towel on it. This works for both outside or inside.
Rubber gloves were a nice touch. That avoids skin oil smudges on the glass.
Will try it today...one of the most challenging things to attempt is cleaning glass, especially a windshield, and getting it streak- and smudge-free.
Where do you obtain the Spray Away and do you wash the cloths in the laundry rather than by hand? I just wonder if laundry product residue causes streaking
You can find Sprayway at most big box stores and over on Amazon. When it comes to my microfiber towels I like to wash them separately, I actually have video on my process here - ruclips.net/video/w92Qi-Lnz8M/видео.html
Do not ever wash microfiber towels with anything else other than microfiber towels…
Free & clear laundry detergent only, low heat.
Absolutely no fabric softener or dryer sheets, dry on low heat.
Pro tip - 1 TBSP of white distilled vinegar added to the, “Fabric Softener” area of the washer, will help fully clean the towels, help deodorize them, and soften them up a bit.
You need to use only Huck towels on glass! Zero lint and cleans perfectly! Your welcome. 👍🏻😁
Does this work for car windows that are tinted as well? I'm afraid to mess up the tint!
Sprayway is safe for tint. Don't use any other cleaners (or alcohol) on tint.
Idk why but the bee really made me chuckle 😂
Would the alcohol damage the rear defroster tape?
For me, the best trick is cleaning all at once with news paper and a glass cleaning product, leaves them sparkly
Is it better to mix water with alcohol
I’ve had trouble with the haziness on the inside of my windshield.. the only thing that got all of that nastiness off was 2 drops of dawn in hot water .. then rinse with clear water using a microfiber and done ✅ 😉
Any tips for cleaning the top of a dashboard with sticky lint? I think I used Armor All once long ago and now it is tacky the lint never comes off.
I use 50/50 water and vinegar and newspaper. Newspaper has no lint.
Hi, how do you clean your microfiber towels? I find that mine get all gross with cat fur stuck all over them even after washing them
Good question! I have a video walking through how I do it here - ruclips.net/video/w92Qi-Lnz8M/видео.html
How to clean the back inside window of a Toyota Camry which has a sharp slope - I can’t quite reach it well with my arms even with my knees on the seat and facing backwards. Thx!
Where do buy good micro towels?
Great thumbnail 👍
Thanks!
Quick question, does the alcohol keep the windshield from fogging up on the inside?
The local AAA store sells a fog prevention product that is wiped on, it’s a yellow colored sponge-like thing.
EXCELLENT VIDEO
please NOTE... No Need for Background Noise/Music
We just want to HEAR YOU TALK.
Thank You for sharing this GREAT Video.
I have found through long experience, NOT to use spray on cleaners of any type. I use one clean rag using hot water to clean and one clean rag to wipe dry. It takes several applications to "train" your window(s), but lasts for months. Microfiber rags are nice, but leave a thin film of microfiber particles when viewed in certain lights. Probably better than cotton rags though unless you have repeatedly used the cotton rags hundreds of times and used them only for washing windows. When in a car wash or detail shop, do NOT let them clean the insides of the windows or you will have to start over again in training your windows.
When you say cotton rags , do you mean those smooth kitchen towel types ? Or something like washcloths ?
And how hot should the water be ? Do you make the rag just damp enough but not dripping ?
Warm is fine. It can even be cold in nice weather. If a warm day (never do it on a hot day as the water dries faster than you can wipe dry), don't completely wring it out so that gives you time to dry wipe adequately.
Newspaper works very well but I didn't know about the alcohol 70%
Beautiful results. I am going to switch from Bounty to micro fiber towels. Thank you, I like help when I can get it. 😎
Does that work with caked on dog drool?😮
Good video. No breathing mask necessary?
Would this be safe for tinted windows, or house windows ?
Good question! To be on the safe side I probably wouldn’t use it. I would just use a drop or two of dish soap in a spray bottle with water.
Spray cleaner and wipe. Got it.
You have no idea how important this is. I almost been in terrible accidents because of those windshield smears and I almost hit someone. I clean them but they always end up dirty and it’s so infuriating .
What is the music in the background??? Also, love your videos
Can windex be used?
What about Dawn dish washing liquid and water in a spray bottle?
I prefer the Chris Fix video on cleaning the inside of the windshield.
Use the top(back) of your hand to reach the bottom area if the windshield. 👍 (Much easier)
What did you use on the outside of the windshield at the end?
That was the Sprayway glass cleaner. It foams up when you spray it, very satisfying to clean with!
You can jurry rig a 12in rod + a kitchen sponge ( somehow secure them together, now put the micro fiber towl onto it. 😅
Hi what concentration alcohol should we use ??
I think 70%.
Great video! How many years did you go to college, before they taught you how to clean windshields? LOL 😂 There’s a lot of great comments.
What did you use on the outside? The cleaner looked different from the alcohol.
Sprayway foaming glass cleaner.
what did you use for the outside?
The Sprayway cleaner
I mix alcohol 50/50 with water in a spray bottle, works great no streaks.
I use gin, vodka, ever clear and mix 50/50. half for me, half for the glass. Still comes out streaky once in a while.
this way of cleaning is also good for tinted windshields?
I would suspect it is. 3M Crystalline tint has a 3M logo printed on it and they recommend using alcohol to remove it from the tint.
What do you do when there is ice inside your windshield?
Turn the knobs on the dash that says/shows 'Defroster"...works every time!
What about tinted windows?
I would use a mild spray, just water and a few drops of Dawn dish soap in a spray bottle. I may even suggest skipping the dry towel step because tint can scuff easily.
My window shield seems to have a film on it.we've tried 3 different cleaners and it still looks foggy. Any ideas? Thanks
No difference.
@@user-jk2hb5qq8rsounds like you need new tint or take it off. You can't fix scratched or swirled tint
You can’t use windex unless the tint is in the glass !!
This is my job for today 😊 You need to sell your microfiber clothes, I would buy a bunch in a second !
You can grab mine here actually! www.microfiberwholesale.com/collections/clean-that-up

You should add that link on your “more” section as I just see your Amazon store link
Thank you so much for ordering! Just added the link to the more section. 💚💚
Great, you should include it on all your videos as I’m sure lots of your subscribers will buy them 🤩
Ouuuf ta.... that alcohol mist right after spraying... I suggest backing out for just a few seconds and allow it to fall on the towel, rather than your eyes or breathe it in. Besides that, I will try your suggestion, because I just did mine with the stuff at the gas station and they are not clean, very frustrating. Thank you!
Hi question
Is alcohol inflammatory?
Yes but 70% isopropyl alcohol solution can evaporate entirety from surfaces in about a minute. So it’s not an issue.
ENG Flammable = easy to go up in flames or cause fires 🔥 // Inflammatory = causes swelling (puffiness) in soft tissues (muscles, tendons, mucous channels).
[ I'm a non-native English speaker and it confuses me as well, Old Latin (from the Roman Empire) words can be messy 😅 ]
Can I use gasoline or acetone?
Yes, they work great if you smoke tobacco while you clean.
@@user-hm8vs8bt3q I don’t smoke tobacco but yesterday I had to wash my car since it has water bug stains on the outside of my windshield so I cleaned it
What kind of Toyota is this?
That's a pretty good technique. I just wish it it is easier for an old dub like me.😅
Use a steam cleaner wipe off dry after so long as the water in the steamer is pure all good
There used to be some company that made a device with an extension arm and pad for cleaning the inside of the window. I was a great idea, but made out of flimsy plastic that broke after a couple of uses. If anyone knows of similar product, please let me know. I have a minivan and I can't even reach the bottom of the windshield.
No waffle weave microfiber towel? Regular microfiber towels almost ALWAYS leave lint, i hate it..
also .......between 8am-9am or just before duck. or an hour before dark ........fighting the heat & hot glass makes it harder.
I have a Subaru with cameras was a bit tricky to do, I just did it and I have a meeting tonight so I’ll see when driving home in the dark how it worked.
Hi Cathy, I have a Subaru with eyesight as well, did you cover yours or just carefully avoid spraying near it? Also how did it turn out? Thanks!
We have an older car and it seems lime no matter how I clean the windshield it never comes clean all the way. It's greasy somehow.
Did the skies change for you to make that video??? 😮
there's not a great way to contort our body but they are great tools like the window cleaning tool where it makes a lot easier
I Have A Question What percent Rubbing Alcohol Should We Use?.. for The inside. 🤔
