Saw Minnale for the nth time on Friday. Haven't seen the interview yet but I've liked the video already. Wish all the Minnale fans could have sent in some questions too.
The interviewer had a good grasp of the interview and he held the interview in an amicable manner.... GVM as always was gold in the way he presented hinself n the way he answered the questions.
Extraordinary film sir, in my school days.. vaseegara booms me, after entered my college days... So many times watched minnalae film.. especially vivek comedy... lovely scenes...

I can almost see Gautham screaming from the rooftops that the film isn't and wasn't at any point reflective of his sensibilities and he goes on to say that kaaka kaaka was for all practical purposes the first GVM film.. An interesting predicament for all creators who cringe at what they created in the past... But like a mother who's offspring doesn't quite turn out the way she expected, they can never really disown the kid...GVM should give up being this ostrich and embrace the film, its success and tropes as his own in celebration for its iconic status as a romantic comedy....
GVM did not enjoy that much of interference from Maddy, Vivek and other outsiders in the screenplay and direction. But being a debut director, he did not have much choice, but still harbours regret over it. Hence, kaakha kaakha is a first favourite for him.
That’s his personal thoughts and feelings and he has that courage to let it out saying he feels Kaakha kaakha is his first.he is the creator he knows what he has gone through the interference .he has all rights to say how he felt and what he felt,he is not taking anyone’s credit,he is just hesitant being appreciated for what’s not him..so respect that!

I was expecting an interview of Sudhir with GVM last year for 12 Years Of Vaaranam Aayiram but nothing happened. Hoping this year there will be an interview on Vaaranam Aayiram wud be great if Suriya is also there:))

My thought about this film is classic evergreen movie.I'm not into love and romance.Enjoyed the boys parts where they were chilling and discussing about approaching Rima Sen. Supni is an enjoyable old man giving advise to his grandson.The clash between Maddy and Abbas it's a kick in heart to watch it.

I thank God to have made this intrvw to be the way I remember Minnale after 20 years. Sudhir added value to the role of a film journalist. At the end, I felt this is more of a Sudhir-Gautham occassion than of remembering Minnale.

Sudhir, I wonder how ironical it is that you worry about the space for woman, being forgotten in a man's world and things. Yet, Reema Sen is rarely discussed about in this interview.
This complaint can be directed at Gautam as well. But you were the interviewer.
I personally loved Reema Sen in this movie. Loved how she got into a character who got cheated and wandered in pain. Yaarkudayum pesa mudiyaama, sogama appa madi la saayum podhu, kalayanam panum podhu unardhu elam. Longed her to see her again in such a role.

Sudhir Srinivasan, awesome conversation. I think Indian/Tamil cinema does a bad job of what is the right way to woo a girl. IMO quasi stalking is ok'ed in the name of the intention of the hero (like GVM defends here). He is better than most in how this woo'ing is shown but I feel GVM has some room to relook his thoughts here. To be more blunt, GVM quasi stalking behavior in the name of wooing a women makes sense if the hero has very low self esteem. Any person with decent self esteem would not exhibit this behavior. It cannot be the case that almost all hero characters in Tamil cinema have low self esteem...

@@snehakrishnan5170 Ma'am, Balu Mahendran protrayed women in way more realistic than others back then and even Directors like Bharathan,Padmarajan showed their Female actors in a unique way.Their Female actors have strong connections to the society Followed by mani ratnam (sometimes it depends on the script of him how he wants his Female characters to be protrayed).The above mentioned Directors showed women are no less than men.

Hope some may continue doing so. Also the antagonist in gvm movies are not shown as buffoons at the end. There are exceptions like baba segal in aym. In kaaka kaaka, vv and yennai arindhal the antagonist were potrayed well.

Hi Sudhir, I watch your interviews and late reviews too but first time you have really done a great interview in terms of questioning the created with past and present days movies. I feel few of the scenes in Minnale is coincidental with reality before nineties. I’m a nineties kid born and bought from ChEnNaI not for more than 20 years in US and I agree but very honestly don’t accept those things and condemn Indian censorship board where they allow many recent hero’s from TV stocking and royalinf billing girls in movies to core and many families enjoying as it’s movies and when comes to reality they then blame others. Well questioned and answered. I adore Gautam a lot for his stylish and gentleness is portraying women as class in mass Masala movies too. Hope those idiots actors and directors watch this interview and learn.

I love vaseegara song.. i was only 7yrs during its release. Obviously i couldn't have known it back then. But till now that's my fav. May be coz, i think that's how a woman who is a hopeless romantic like me would visualise herself with her man
Watched the film after this interview..i haven't watched it before and i am watching it after 20yrs.. so obviously i thought it's gonna be full of cringe elements.. however it was actually good to go to a film with least expectations.. i thoroughly enjoyed it.. there was not a single cringe moment,to my surprise.. i just loved how 2 strangers meet and connect within a span of 5 days.. it was so natural.. the gifts the dialogs the vibe.. i loved it so much that i regretted for neglecting this movie for 20 long yrs.. the only thing that bothered me was Reema Sen.. looked like she didn't fit in.. the way she emotes, her dialog delivery her reactions..were off..
