I was looking for 2002 45RFE transmission slippage causes (loose bands, bad solenoids, bad fluid) when this video had popped up on my feed. This is a great instructional video for those who need to know how to change their transmission filter and fluid. But, I see one issue that was not mentioned, well maybe two. One; inspect the bottom of the pan for shiny flakes or chunks of metal. That is aluminum shavings which indicate that something is rubbing on the transmission body. Two; inspect the debris attached to the magnet BEFORE removing it to clean. Blackish fuzz is normal, shiny metal flakes indicate a possible issue of metal on metal grinding or shaving. I'd like to add that IF you use any type of RTV, DO NOT use too much! Excess squeezed to the inside of the pan lip can break loose and plug up ports, although the filter *should* prevent that from happening. Carry on.

I believe that when you remove the old tranny oil from the tranny oil pan and the take off the tranny oil filter...whatever comes out is pretty much what you replace back into the dipstick thingy.. If you're unsure how much you just drained just dump your old tranny oil into a gallon milk jug or a container with some kind of Quart measurement on it. After you get an idea how much you drained you are ready to replace the filter, clean the pan, scrape the old gasket gunk off, clean that nasty magnet then put it back into the pan, bolt the pan back into place also making sure you did not forget to position the gasket AND bead it with that RTV stuff. If you are still unsure how much of the old tranny oil came out, seek assistance from the eye doctor. Nah, just jivin'. You'll see what comes out, com'on. Then start your vehicle and measure how much you need (at engine HOT level). Add what was lost. Done. Drive. :) Just to be sure how much tranny oil is supposed to go into your vehicle, check with the manual as well, fluid section.
