Karen, Thanks for interviewing Rich. He's very special. Not only is he smart but his humor is entertaining as well! His mindset is amazing. One of the few people who have challenged Tesla to do "the right thing" and get a positive response! Granted, I think at this point they pride themselves in blocking Rich, it won't matter because he knows enough to move around them! He stands for "the people's right to repair their own products", which manufacturers don't want the public doing any more! These products cost too much to not be able to repair your own! In that space he has joined many Americans wanting the same, so you'll probably be hearing about this brother in the future as well, while they fight against this type of control. Good job Richie, proud of you!

The Prince of electric cars is Rich rebuilds. I went to technical school for automotive. My dad was an Prince on Automatic transmissions for 60 yrs. My life has been automotive all my life. That's why im enthuised about your craft on electric car repairs and rebuilds man I love this new technology. And with you being able to have an outlet to us little guys its awesome to see technology at the forefront moving like lightning. I love this stuff. I have gone through alot of health issues like cataract surgery and eyesight problems to now catching the covid19 but no matter what I can always document Rich rebuilds channel and man I'm home again. I love what this young man has done for the automotive world. No matter if those guys try to hold you back us the little guys have your back and there's power in numbers. Haters do not apply. Nuff said Peace

I just came home from taking my mom to test drive the Tesla Model Y.
She's a Cadillac XT5 leasee and I wanted her to be up to date on options.
TESLA, through their computer software, is determined to control every aspect of a car, even through resale. A guy bought a used Tesla and they disabled his autopilot (a $7000 feature) because they felt he needed to repay for it. They enabled it when word got out.
TESLA is extremely anal and paranoid about bad press and fake news. They work diligently to debunk and refute any claims against them.
What Rich is doing is basically violating their Terms of Service by taking these cars and rebuilding them - especially from salvage titles. It's similar to how Apple tries to control every aspect of the "user experience". They absolutely can't be certain how their vehicles will react to supercharging. Teslas used to overheat and explode regularly. The last thing they want is a rebuild setting a supercharger on fire or vice versa.
I appreciate Rich's RUclips and I always wondered why Tesla doesn't give this man a job and force him to sign a non-disclosure agreement just to get him to stop doing what he's doing.
They obviously don't want him having that level of access.
TESLA may offer freedom from the gas pump, but you damn sure ain't free from them.
It's the same reason Apple won't let you open up your iPhone to service parts. Apple wants FULL CONTROL of the battery, screen, motherboard, etc.
In the long run, that's why Apple is a Trillion dollar company and Tesla is well on their way to being one.
And that's why I don't buy anything Apple.

Dr. Carr’s class at Howard was the most eye-opening experience that I was fortunate to have at 19 years old in 2007. Keep up the excellent content! 💪🏿☝🏾🙌🏾

Rich is my guy. I watch all his RUclips videos. Very informative, inspirational and funny. He has a crazy sense of humor. Very capable guy that doesn't mind trying anything once. More people should adopt that mentality.
Thanks for hosting Rich. I love his videos. Instead of a G-wagon, consider a Toyota Land Cruiser. Not cheap, but less than Mercedes and more reliable.

I've watched this gentleman for years. He's very valuable to the automotive industry. If Tesla doesn't want to work with him, let a big manufacturer work with him.

If I had an electric car start up company, I would first call Rich. I would retain him, pay him good money, and have him work with my engineers and designers. A Renaissance man. A brilliant one.
Thank you for having this brother Rich Benoit on your show! TESLA headquarters in Fremont, California has had many problems with racism at their site - I'm not impressed with the company but the car is interesting! Calling Black employees the N-word and other racist behavior from the company is very problematic.

I love Rich Rebuild, he did what he could because he couldnt afford it and became basically what i see an Tesla expert, that Tesla doesnt like per se? Idk, but the way he knows it and does what he does is just awesome and he is good on camera.

Same here I love photographer and did help-desk for Kodak, now I'm a lead software and will do b&w photographer later in life, LOL. Also I remember Kodak saying "Flim forever" and now, not so much. Kodak had some great digital cameras but stuck in flim.

I would be so intimidated by the chance that I would be electrocuted I couldn't even begin! I still can't understand how he put this all together. Gifted!
Fortunately in automobiles the wiring connections all have unique plugs, so he transferred the electrical components pretty much like the Tesla workers who were hired off the street did it. The Tesla cars aren't assembled by rocket scientists. What is amazing is Rich risked $14,000 when he purchased a ruined car that most of us wouldn't see potential in - but he knew that he could sell the parts for probably more than he paid for the hulk.
As you follow the story, after six months he got the car assembled, but he lacked the key to start it - the computer required a key that was coded by the factory and Tesla wouldn't sell him a key!

B. The Duryea brothers openly admitted that they didn't invent the 1st ever car.
C. The Duryea brothers weren't black, so what they did or didn't invent really doesn't matter in this context anway.

Look at this: an intelligent conversation about cars, up to & including Tesla. And even though Tesla cut Uncle Rich off (being the petty MF'ers that they are), he still tells people that don't like electric cars, but like speed, to try one. Nothing but class on Uncle Rich's part. A great interview.

Rich took it to TSLA on rebuilding cars. They (TSLA) think they have a moat around their stuff ... But they do not as long as smart gearheads can figure it out. It's complicated, but it ain't rocket science. And Rich is the MAN becasue he and his have the puter skills to dive in. The good old boys out in AZ that rebuild Gen 1 TSLA Roadsters are the same. And EV West has figured out how to take TSLA parts and make your VW or Porsche be clean and go too :D

I've no doubt that Richie's grounding in computer science is real useful in working on EV's. Tesla's are basically computers on wheels. Been following Richie since Car Guru days, brilliant content and funny as f**k. Also, he's a car guy, in the style of Jay Leno. Likes cars without prejudice.

Electric cars reach instant torque IMMEDIATELY. Gas engines need to build torque. Short of a Formula 1 Drag car, Teslas are damn near unbeatable.
