- Continuing our visit to Holy Island, we discover the church and Lindisfarne Priory.
The Lindisfarne Priory was founded around 635 AD by St. Aidan, an Irish monk from the monastery of Iona in Scotland. Aidan was sent by King Oswald of Northumbria to establish Christianity in his kingdom.
The monastery attracted monks and became a center for learning and piety. St. Cuthbert, one of the most famous Anglo-Saxon saints, served as bishop of Lindisfarne and was later buried there.
Lindisfarne is notoriously known for the Viking raid in 793 AD, one of the first recorded Viking attacks on the British Isles. This raid marked the beginning of the Viking Age in Europe and had a profound impact on the monastery and its community.
The raid devastated the priory, leading to a period of decline. However, the monastic community continued, and the monks eventually moved St. Cuthbert's relics to various locations to protect them from further Viking incursions.

Thanks for sharing as we never made it to some of those locations on the island …
There was more to discover than we thought. We really liked the lifeboat museum that was in the previous video. Thanks for watching. Have subbed ro your new channel.
I sure hope you two put on plenty of sunblock?! lol Or at least had water proof hiking boots? Your English Heritage sites are amazing. I enjoyed this two parter. We got to so much more of Holy Isle this way. Hope you two have a great weekend and coming week! Cheers!
We are big fans of English Heritage. Not so much so the National Trust. We have had a good day. Been on the train to Manchester. We didn't take the video cameras. We fancied a day off just indulging our other hobby of street and themed photography plus a visit to our favourite Indian restaurant for lunch.
Hope you weekend is being kind to you.
@@CampervanTales That sounds like the best kind of trip! Plus, really good Indian food? Now I am feeling jealous. Our weather has finally decided to be nice to us. It’s a warm sunny day. We’ve got Pride Week going on. I am going to check out some of the festivities this afternoon. Glad you two are taking time out just for yourselves. Cheers!
Such a nice place and great history but still a nope if I had to drive there lol xx
Lol xx
Don't know if you've been here but I suggest jubilee tower in wales. We went to it on the queens 70th jubilee
Thanks for the suggestion. We haven't been so will add it to our list. Thankyou.

Never seen it 😳
Not going to lie the road freaked me out, I kept saying to Darren the tides not going to get us 🤣
Lol. Imagine getting stick on it. Have you seen any of the RUclips videos of that happening? xx

I think that's so gruesome to open tombs. I wonder why they did it?
LOL yes indeed murky England.
Indeed it is
We had some mead last weekend, they sell it in morrisons 😊
We used to sell it in our honey shop.🐝🍯🍾
@@CampervanTales Yea you said. I didn't know you had a honey shop till today 🙂
@@FreeBirdUKVanLife yep wexhad it for three years. We started it asa place to sell our honey and that of other local beekeepers. Then we added bee related gifts and got our alcohol license.
@@CampervanTales oh man, have you still got Bees. I'm qualified Bee Keeper but not had any hives with being mobile.
We lost the hives over winter. So did a lot of keepers in our area for some reason. Just waiting for a swarm now to go and collect to start again.
