Oh why when I was young and had energy to go but no money and now old with some money but NO energy. But cheer up I have the Memory Seekers to take me anywhere I want to go so all is well. lol. Thank you two. Hugs and blessings ❤
When I was young in UK I was also the mum of 4 small kids, so getting involved into history was a bit off the radar. I did discover North Wales during that time developed a passion for ancient history but it's really only now in my very old age(84) that I have the time to investigate & find the connecting links everywhere - so thank you RUclips & this channel for the help in expanding my knowledge ! Never too late to learn !
I visited this beautiful place 10 yrs ago on a trip to the UK. The weather was worse than this, the rain barely let up. We had lunch in a cosy pub. The weather did not detract from the quaint village. We were too late to get into the castle but did wander around the garden.
I just love your videos, so expertly done and narrated, and I enjoy a bit of commentary from Will, it's nice to see his smiling face and not just the back of him. Can't wait till the next video!
Lovely tour of the holy island of Landisfarne, quaint village of homes and businesses. I think it would be fun to spend a night or two on the island. Thanks for bringing us along
We were lucky to have a fortnight holiday on Lindisfarne last year, which miraculously coincided with a two week heatwave! Arriving by train (Berwick on Tweed) and taxi, and with a Tesco delivery that set us up for our stay. We walked our socks off each day, yes and it was lovely when the day trippers went home! Your videos brought back many happy memories. Thanks.
Two weeks on the island, wow what a base. Did you find it hard to get around the rest of Northumberland due to the tide? Or did you just stay on the island exclusively?
@@MemorySeekers We stayed on the island, apart from taking the weekly bus to Berwick to buy some garden canvas chairs, as the fixed seating in the garden was in the hottest part. We were not spoilt for choices of walks, my husband’s only disappointed was not getting to see “Vera’s” house on the island.
Fascinating island guys. The architecture and superb stonework of the old monasteries is treat to behold. The skill of those stonemasons of yesteryear were astounding. Thanks for this treat.
Lovely to see a cool foggy morning; in the throes of hot, humid August here in CA, though not on fire in my corner of the state. I've learned to embrace the humidity. I have to say that Lindisfarne is the last place I expected the hand of Lutyens. Really interesting. I hope to see that Arts & Crafts interior some time. As always, a terrific tour of those windswept shores with their famous ruins. I love seeing the different kinds of stone, and how they are joined in a manner that has kept them standing for all these centuries. That parking fee does seem a bit steep for a patch of muddy ground. As a huge fan of The Last Kingdom, I'm very excited for next week. Cheers!
We had so many other castles to visit that week, we didn't want to overload ourselves or you guys! I think we still visit 5 castles with the interior shots during our week. So this one, this time was missed. We would love to go in them all, but at least we can go back and do it another time. ☺
Cheers Neil, I did Bamburgh on a school trip also years ago! Hardly remembered it though apart from the Grace Darling museum which has always stuck in my mind for some reason!
Will has his waterproof jacket this week. :) Really enjoyed this. We’ve been in the area but not to the island. You’re making our travel list get longer and longer.
If you ever visit again you need more time, you missed a treat in the castle! Hope you got to taste the mead, we always end leaving with a few bottles 🥴🍷🍾 Nice to see Will doing a bit lately, making him earn his dinner eh Simon, all the best gents.
We had so many castles to visit during that week, so we missed going in some of them as it would be an overload for us! I think we still go inside 5 during our series and doing all that in 1 week was enough. Not a fan of mead and it wasn't open when we arrived. It might have been because it was a Sunday. Holy day and all! ☺
I was so looking forward to our this year from New Zealand to visit Lindisfarne on May 19th but unfortunately I was sick and missed the day tour. Thank you Simon and Will for this and all the other places we get to see through your eyes.
Dear Simon &Will thank you both for all these wonderful videos , omg lindysfarne is so mesmerising and amazingly beautiful , we love it !Nice to see Will talking to us 😁thank you so much ,northumberland is so beautiful and full of history.Greetings from hamburg !
Absolutely beautiful, Thank you Both so much for sharing it with us! Waiting for your next video to come out is like being a kid again and waiting for your birthday thats just a few days away! The joy and excitement when that day finally gets here is the same feeling!! Bless you and Will SO MUCH for all the time and hardwork you do to produce these for all of us to enjoy!! ❤❤
I am a Northumbrian and made a comment in one of the other videos. I said that the weather is not always a nice sunny day I remember most of the time it was overcast with occasional rain. My first memory of this lovely little island was when I was about seven with my parents and two brothers. It has become more commercial now than it was sixty years ago but always worth a first visit and spend a full day on the island. It always amazes me that in the UK you have to pay to park everywhere you go and that nothing is free. I have lived in Spain for nineteen years and except for the middle of a city, just about everywhere in Spain is free parking. Another good video cheers.
Hello, thank you for commenting again and sharing your memories of a first visit. I don't mind paying for parking if I feel I am getting something for it. Example clean toilets to use if need be. But to put a minimum of £6.50 and 3 hours is just money grabbing for what was a field in essence. Over the course of that day we stopped 3 times at £6.50 a go and the last place was just for 1 hours. It makes it very expensive and I think puts people off from stopping. Maybe that is what the council want? So glad you enjoyed watching.
Great vid, guys. I was in the UK last year. I have a lithographic print on my wall of Lindisfarne Priory, which I purchased at Durham Cathedral. Can't wait to see what you make of Durham. Cheers. 🤓👍
I enjoyed a lot 😊 thank u for sharing such incredible greenery island, I love the birds singing especially like very perfect nature song❤ Im absolutely waiting for next episode 😀
Lindisfarne is beautiful and worth a visit, but it has it's difficulties. If you want to stay on the island, you'll need to book a hotel months in advance, longer if your stay coincides with a Christian feast day ( many pilgrims here). No camping on the island, nearest campsites on the mainland don't have tent places. Don't try wild camping-most of the island is a nature reserve, and local farmers are not impressed by the practice, Buses to the island can be as few as one a week (more in summer), though it's a pleasant bike ride from Berwick-I did it that way. Taxi from Berwick is possible but £££ If you're just day tripping, bring food and drink sufficient for the day-you can get a coffee easily, but most cafes and shops close or have limited hours outside of summer. Hope this helps you😊😛😊
Outstanding! Another excellent video of this lovely 'Holy Island' of LIndisfarne. It is very beautiful there with such charming & rustic wee Churches, delightful & quaint wee Homes & other quaint wee buildings. As well as, the unique & impressive Castle on the Hill, rising above it all. Thank you for sharing another delightful experience on this truly captivating & intriguing 'Holy Island'. Blessings to you both!
