I made a breakthrough when I learned a reggae/punk song that was all quarter up strumming and then did it interchangeably up or down strum. Feeling the strings and how I use them improved my sound.

I've been paying, but not learning for years. I've recently started up again and have been watching a ton of strumming videos. This is the first time I've watched one of your videos. I'm not sure why, but something just clicked for me! I was able to follow all of your patterns and actually FEEL the rhythm. I'm subscribed and THANK YOU! I feel like I just had a breakthrough.

As you work on these patterns, think of your arm as a metronome, going up and down in time to the tempo, always keep your arm moving, even when you skip an up or down strum. Strongly suggest practicing with metronome (lots of cellphone apps) and set the tempo to 60 or 70 beats per minute if you are just beginning your guitar journey. Remember the 3Ps, Patience, Perseverance, and PRACTICE, Good luck!!!

Hi lauren.! Been playing just over two years and got into a rut with a strumming pattern. When I jam with friends they said “why do you play the smae pattern all the time”? I was rather embarrassed when they recorded me and I listen to three songs! Wow I said time to change :() we all need to go back to basics from time to time! Keep up the amazing work and what you do you are a fab teacher :()

@@LaurenBateman What a cowinkie dink,I have been studying the elite walk down this David Myhr musician uses in his cover of Roy's "You Got it"....I finger picked so many years I had to brush up on pick again..The one he uses matches the strum pattern, riding the octaves down..
Came to your channel to get tight again..I grew my nails long on pick hand until picking up pup duty one day, when my thumb nail poked through the bag and (thumb nail) filled.
I did not notice until I went to eat an apple, caught it but that was it!!!! (true story) going to get fluent with a pick again..lol..
I used to go by ear but I noticed it does sound better when you have it consistent..Great Lessons!!!

    Dear Lauren Bateman ,
I Wrote notes on Cardboard so that my notes would stand up right when I Practice.
About my Clip- on Tuner: I practice and practice to Learn how to use it on my own.
What I did was bring all my string in very high pitch sound then I started lowering the sound until the light on the Chromatic Clip-On Tuner goes all green on each string(BA G D C E).
    La🎸 guitara
    sounds lots better.
I started learning from low to high that's what I saw someone do in U-tube, but that way did not work with me.
Instead it done on me with God's help to bring the 🎸 guitarra to a high pitch sound until am careful not to go to high so I would not burst(paw!paw!) La Guitarra strings.
Then I played the guitar and finally it give me the sound that I was looking for, Amen!
So. I learn from this experience that to tune a guitar from low to high did not work well with me, It was to frustrating and the process trying to get it tune was to long and very discouraging.
But tunning La 🎸 Guitarra top to bottom work better for me and to me is Lot's Faster.
My 🎸 Guitarra does not sound any more like 🍪 CookyMonster 🥁 Drum and am no longer a CookyMonster about to brake it,Ha!Ha! Then hide myself in my garbage pan like Cookie Moster so I would not see my Guitara Again,Ha!
I Love you so much Guitar Teacher Lauren Bateman and pleace have a wonderful day Love you,
    Yours,Diana
