Fighting fire with fire, Tombstone and Rotator battle it out in what is one of the smokiest and most flammable fights yet! This battle is from season e episode 7.

0:14 That was the hit that started the domino chain leading to Tombstone dying.
Tombstone landed upside down from that impact, bringing their blade up to the same height as Rotator's, which in turn led to the weapon-on-weapon hit that unbalanced both spinners and caused Tombstone's weapon motor to shake itself to pieces and short out the internals. Normally the motor would have survived that final collision with the wall, but it was already falling apart at that point.

I love how at the end Ray even drops his Heel act and has a bit of a laugh about his loss, and then goes and celebrates with Rotators team.
This fight really was a changing of the guard. The majority of people thought Tombstone would comfortably win this one, but then RotatoR comes, executes it's strategy to perfection, and pulls off a famous win. My mind was comprehensively blown seeing Tombstone fly all over the place.
Flash forward to the present day, where Tombstone is now no longer the top dog, and RotatoR is very much the new king of the horizontals.
No, any bot with a good wedge is now better than tombstone, the meta has change favoring vertical rotator more (uppercut, glitch, witch doc,….)

Got top 16 in 2018 and beat minotaur
In 2019(the year this fight happened it got semi finals)

Starting out with some acrobotics from Tombstone (0:08), both bots end up with broken weapons but never giving up, one completely on fire at the end, going for almost 3 minutes.
This is peak battlebots.
Season 4 episode 7 by the way.
bami going that long while on fire youve gotta give them credit for that many robots on fire dont normally last the amount of time tombstone did blackdragon almost did the same thing aswell
So rather than attending to that brutal looking fire the teams just focused on who was going to win and judges counting down? Shocking unless that's the way it goes with the BATTLEBOT rules?
@@OGA_999 Once your batteries are on fire there isn't much you can do about it. Only option is to just let it burn out.
This basically was the origin story of rotator. After this moment they were taken quite seriously
I first saw this series when I was a lil kid. I somehow got reminded of this program and found the latest vid today. I gotta say this, this is the legit best battlebot footage I've ever seen.

Amazing ! I've never seen a bot have a resistance as big as this rotator.. remember that tombstone has one of the strongest attacks among all bots and rotator practically left this fight without damage
I too felt the same and The brainy thing they did was making a strong shield with inclined position. Based on TOMBstone weight balance, the impact is recoiled to tombstone itself

It was Rotator's unforgettable moment as it was a monumental upset victory by defeating Tombstone in BATTLEBOTS 2019.
When we thought Bombshell's vengeance was a huge upset, ROTATOЯ comes in and and pulls out a victory by making Tombstone smoke. Oh man… what an upset back then. Now the golden machine right there it's considered one of the high tier bots.
Bombshell’s win was a fluke IMO(Ray made a silly mistake), but Rotator won it with good defence.

Even if he would have survived I doubt the judges would have decided for a bot that spend half the round handling his own problems but respect to team tombstone on not giving up and keep on making the best out of the situation.

I think it will be better if tombstone has a centrifugal clutch for that rotating blade. Because when the blade hits the other bot, the shock load might damage the blade motor. If there is a clutch, that shock may be dissipated.

That would have been the tactic I could think of. A strong angled wedge to drive into the hits and let Tombstone break itself. But the driving to execute it and resistance of that bot is ridiculous.

The angle of that wedge is perfect so now all the bots only have to build a special shield with that exact angle to defeat Tombstone.

BLACK DRAGON burned 3 or 4 times and was fine. In fact he won at least 2 of those times.

Although tombstone is very durable and a freaking robust weapon, but its fight is not technical and he wins only because of its weapons strength.

For me the rotator has to be redesigned, because the rotator is actually not being balanced within it's body and is rotating too much outside of the overall size that's making it tough for the survivial

So because of the active weapon rule would tombstone win if it went to the judges?
I'd still give the win to Rotator as it was more aggressive and controlling despite losing its weapon slightly earlier.
The "active weapon rule" is only when starting the fight, it's irrelevant during or after the fight.
The judges score on damage, aggression and control (strategy in the past), having a weapon die would give a real advantage to the opponent in the damage category. However Tombstone being completely dead and on fire at the end of the match would probably mean damage category goes to Rotator, even though Rotator lost its own weapon and the drive was getting a bit wobbly, along with a ton of damage to the armor and frame.
Without a primary weapon, it would be really hard for Rotator to get an advantage in aggression, but combined with having probably better control (since Rotator killed Tombstone mostly by wedging it around) if this went to the judges I'd give it to Rotator.

Sad thing is, if Tombstone hadn't been counted out at the last moment, it would have automatically won the judges' decision.
How so? They were at best equal on damage, and Tombstone was definitely losing the control and aggression categories for two-thirds of that fight. Rotator only had a little stub of a weapon left, but they were still trying to spin it up and use it all the way to the end.
@@ZondaFRoadster Agreed. Not to mention, the last thing the judges would've seen was Tombstone on fire for a lot of the match. That's not a good look to leave the judges on. Same thing happened to Bombshell after it's fight with Yeti.
@@ZondaFRoadster Because Tombstone was the only one that actually used its weapon whilst it was working, and we all know that's pretty much the one-and-done with the judges. Witch Doctor this very same season finished its semi-final fight on fire and barely able to move, yet still won because its weapon was still spinning, unlike the still-perfectly-mobile Death Roll.
