BIS is my favorite. The story is great and Bowser's characterization is the best it's ever been. I also think it has the nicest spritework in the M&L series.
I respect everyone opinion, but I'm sorry to say I disagree with a lot of these gripes, to me and in my opinion, Bowser is fun to play as, and I feel like he got just as much love as the bros do, Bowser characterization was the best too, he seems dumb at times, but he's really not, and can be just as awesome as the bros, Fawful is still and always will be my favorite antagonist of all gaming, but those are my opinion
I agree because although I do like this game I don’t think it’s the best one I feel like the bowsers insides should be like the insides of yoob from partners in time
I disagree with most of your gripes. I enjoyed bowsers main attacks more than the bros, and i even really liked his specials. Also, the fire isn't that hard to time, there's 2 different tells. You can wait for his face to turn red, or you can wait until he clenches his hands into fists. These should both lead to excellent hits. That is, as long as you hold the button down as well, or else he will cough up smoke. When it comes to the star cure arc, i mostly liked bowsers place in it. I think it makes sense that he doesn't do much for it, as he doesn't even really know why he's collecting them or what they even are. Also, given that you just got control of the bros outside bowser a few hours before, i like that they make you explore the world as them. You get to go back to secrets you saw but couldn't reach as bowser. And story-wise, it kind of makes sense, because before you go storming the castle as the bros, they need to power up a bit more in the world first. They've spent most of the game inside bowser, so it makes sense they need to stretch their legs a while before going back. While I do wish bowser had more boss fights, i do love just about everything we did get for him. This is my favorite game in the series(ogsuperstar saga is a close second), and in my top 2 favorite mario games. I feel it's the most different of the m&l games, because you switch between 2 fun parties to play as throughout the whole game.
Honestly my only real issues with BIS are just that the overworld is a bit weak (most of the areas aren't on par with SS or PiT visually and the connected overworld feels a little bit like it was there for the sake of it) and that sometimes the story feels a bitt too much like "just passing through" when you're playing as Bowser. Besides that it's great: Bowser as a playable character (I do agree on lack of bosses/dungeons but it doesn't bother me much personally), the Bros. inside Bowser, Fawful as the main villain (with a whole ass arc contextualizing it makes it really cool) and just the entire endgame is so good.
Bowser’s Inside Story is my favorite game in the series, but I also agree about the overworld being kinda weak. It’s not nearly as cool as the overworld in Superstar Saga and the transitions from one area to another can feel unnatural at times. I’m glad I’m not the only person who feels that way about the overworld
Bowser was really fun to play as and the fire attack was easy to hit. You have to purposely mess up to fail it. Also bowser has more boss fights than you said you forgot Dark fawful Deep sea blooper statue There might be a couple more im forgetting
My gripes with inside story is the sheer amount of puzzles, gimicks and minigames needed to proceed. I personally prefer my Mario and Luigi to be more linear
Honestly, the way Bowser is used in the story is the biggest gripe i have had with the game ever since the first time i played, cause he feels more like a tool than a character most of the time. He is pretty much manipulated or used during the whole game, either by fawful or the bros and when bowser is caged, the other characters didnt really care and only helped him to use him as a tank to storm the last dungeon. I think they should have had bowser learn the bros were in his body after hus boss fight and agrred to form a temporal aliance, he would feel more important. People sometimes say bowser become a more frightening villian in dream team and paper jam, cause they taught him here how to be one, in reality he learned that he should not trust anyone other than him or his minions. Sorry if this sound a little ranty, i had this bottled up and is the first time i see someone have some tipe of similar opinion on the matter.
No I agree 100%, I really hate how Bowser's character was used. It's always been something that's really dragged the game down for me (along with my dislike of Fawful as a main villain as opposed to a sidekick).
"Giant battles are gimmicks" it literally revolutionized the mario and luigi series and has been a part of every game to date since it's release. Ok it's not strict RPG bowser fight, but you're also forgetting that bowser does the majority of the leg work in the final battle, so I'd say L take. And about bowser's special moves, also L take here, because the 1 slight gripe in the mario and luigi series compared to other RPG games is that the Mario and Luigi specials, while fun, don't have a lot of reusability and tactical usage, once you get a stronger one, who's using yoo who? cannon or even mighty meteor once you get fallen star, snack basket and magic window, where a lot of them boil down to strong single target multi hit attacks that do more damage than the last? This is NOT the case for bowser's specials I'd argue, since all though there aren't nearly as many, They are all useful for far longer, the only bad one is goomba corps and there's a possible argument for bob-bomb blitz being powercrept by by kamek firing squad, both being multi hit splash moves, but even then bob-bomb blitz allows you the freedom to divide up damage as you please to enemy targets that Kamek squad doesn't. They all are have far more lifetime I'd argue than mario and luigi's special attacks, and are all useful in different situations, with only broggie bonker being the only high damage, multi hit single target type attack which is common across mario and luigi games. This was a big problem in superstar saga for me, which was otherwise a great game, it just felt very wide and broad but shallow in all of it's mechanics, this is not the case for ANY bowser ability ever in the ENITRE pace of the game, and bowser does the MAJORITY of the exploration in the overworld. Sliding punch? used all the time as an amazing movement tool. Shell roll? majority of mid game exploration is accessed by it. Ground pound? Only verticle bowser ability in the overworld, used for accessing verticle platforms and areas in a completely different way that mario and luigi do, used in multiple creative ways in the overworld. I'd say mario and luigi's Spin and Drill are less frequently used and more gimmicky than any bowser ability at any stage in the game. Heck whole dungeons, sections and areas in bowser's body feel more gimmiky and one note than any bowser ability (and there still the best 2D sections in any mario and Luigi Story by a landslide), there may not be many overworld sections for bowser, like there are for mario and luigi, but you come back to visit them ALL the time as bowser or mario and luigi, I'd say there more fleshed out than any overworld in any mario game. Also dream team was essentially mario and starlow, Luigi's inside story. With slightly better special attacks in the Bowser equivalent sections for dream team (luigi attacks).
I’m playing through this game for the first time since I was in first grade, I was never able to beat the game because I was dumb and sucked at games back then, but oh man this game is the pinnacle of nostalgia for me. And even without nostalgia the game straight up just slaps, even these days
Mario Luigi 3 is Best Dream Team is more like Superstar Saga 2 but Bowser actually getting into becoming the true main villain by usurping the new villain of the day rather than being possessed by the new villain
i remember my gripes being the amount of tutorials back then, but i still beat this game way too soon & got a lil depressed & soon after a lot of "bowser my beloved"
Thought BIS is my favorite, you have a valid take on this game and I wish there was more of bowser. Was very brave to post this too lol, I know some people who’d get maaaad at this take. Got my respect👍
I think what makes BIS the best of the playable bowser games is that he is one of the MAIN protagonists throughout the entire game, he's equal with the bros, hell hes more important than them
I recently did a min level run for BiS and it really opened my eyes to the lack of Bowser content. I love Bowser's gameplay (honestly even more so than the bros) especially in battle. But when you're avoiding as many battles as possible, you find that bowser is consistently around 5 levels behind the bros because of how many fewer bosses he has. And then when the boss is defeated, he's given so much exp that he gains all 5 of those levels back. Bowser also has a distinct lack of post-game content like the bros do in the challenge node. Its hard to say if its still my favorite in the series after experiencing all of this, but I will say it at the very least HAD the potential to be the best. And it has one of the best OSTs in the series. And to mention the remake adding giant battle refights, that game also ruined the giant battles so it isn't any fun anymore. Also your opinion on flame sounds like a skill issue 😤😤😤
One final little thought before people get the wrong idea: still an excellent game. If it's not my favorite its still #2. I had similar thoughts about missed potential here and there when I played DT recently. But the whole series is still amazing!
It took me 10 years to finally play the game AND I LOVED IT, but I do think it had a low point once you went to toad town I wanted more bowser I wanted to scare a toad.
PiT is my personal favorite Mario & Luigi Game by a very slight margin. I actually really like not having bros points, and trying to use the bros items efficiently to kill the enemies quickly while also leaving some for the boss is pretty fun ngl (also Copy Flower > Magic Mirror). and the story in PiT is fantastic for a Mario RPG. Superstar Saga also beats BiS for me as well because of nostalgia, but BiS easily has the best artstyle, spritework and music in my opinion. Honestly, Dream Team is kinda mid, and Paper Jam could've been a good game but it's terrible.
Never finished playing it. Wasn't much of a gamer during the time it came out but I can't imagine it was much different. Maybe so nice quality of life improvements
This is such a good breakdown of my issues with Bowser's Inside Story. However, the main difference between us here is that I can't particularly say that I like the game. Bowser's characterization and also Fawful being insufferable to me, along with the points that you made in this video, both drag the game down for me and make it my least favorite about of the Mario & Luigi games (Paper Jam not included). Superstar Saga will always be the best game in the series to me and Bowser's Inside story remains a disappointment for not being able to follow up on what has been building up over the past two games.
No, Bis is not the best, there's a big argue on internet on wondering which is the best between Superstar Saga and Partners in Time. My favorite is Partners in Time, I give it a 10 out of 10, Superstar Saga a 9 out of 10
Partners in Time? Superstar Saga is definitely the best one. But Partners in Time? I’ve got huge nostalgia reserves for that game but it definitely isn’t the best. Maybe 3rd or 4th.
I think this game is a great game but not a very good mario and luigi game they dont feel like they do all to much and starlow takes all the chances they get to be funny if it was just bowser and starlow it woulda worked far better but as is i prefer sss
I agree that bowser did not get as much attention in the game as he could have. What i really wish was in the game was more boss fights where both the bros and bowser could deal damage to the boss, more like the fountain fight. Also i wished all the special attacks remained viable throught the game instead of just spamming falling star and broggy, especially on bosses. It should have been jumps, hammers, punches and fire would be used to test the enemy defenses, which would indicate somehow what special attack would work best. Like how the fire flower did critical damage against the bug on bowser's flame pipe
For me I would have to agree. This was the worst game in series for me. But I also did not beat the dream team as well. For what every reasons I just did not feel the same love was put into those two compared to the first two games. I just picked up a new 2ds xl I want to try and finish the last two games and see if my feels still hold up. I did enjoy the super star saga remake it had a lot of Quality of life improvements. The took out Luigi says Okie Dookie as much tho. Now its only said in certain boss fights. Partners in Time is still my favorite in the series!
Your meant to hold the button for fire
BIS is my favorite. The story is great and Bowser's characterization is the best it's ever been. I also think it has the nicest spritework in the M&L series.
This one was definitely my favorite looking one.
it definitely is.
I also love that they finally gave Mario and Luigi eyebrows in this one.

I hope that in brothership we get bowser segments. They did say that bowser is there to help 🤔
Bowser was really fun to play as and the fire attack was easy to hit. You have to purposely mess up to fail it.
Also bowser has more boss fights than you said you forgot
Dark fawful
Deep sea blooper statue
There might be a couple more im forgetting
Reggie: Bowser really does suck
But I mean that in a good way!
The first game that introduced the new combo, a new jump and a new charged hammer that was seen in dream team.
My gripes with inside story is the sheer amount of puzzles, gimicks and minigames needed to proceed. I personally prefer my Mario and Luigi to be more linear

False. Partners in time is the greatest. I will stand by it til the day I die.
Honestly I can respect that. Not many people stand by PiT.
That's a better preference.
Like to see pepole like myself that like PiT the most :3
Of course the Steins:Gate fan prefers the time travel plot
I love this style of video!

Bowser's Inside Story my beloved ❤️🔥
My favorite Mario and Luigi game and 2nd favorite mario Rpg behind TTYD
Not possible without Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.

I think what makes BIS the best of the playable bowser games is that he is one of the MAIN protagonists throughout the entire game, he's equal with the bros, hell hes more important than them
Nah, I remembee Bombomb Blitz fondly. I use it alot when i EXP grind.
people miss the fire attack?
Finally someone who gets it bis is not the best but it’s a good game
try the remake and see how it compares
Best Bowser in any Mario game for sure

I prefer SS over BIS.
Of course you do.
I’m more of a dream team type of person
I prefer PiT
