My rebuttal to the gen 5 comment at 4:33 is so is gen 1. Voltorb and Electrode is just a pokeball with eyes. Exeggcute are just eggs. Every gen has those pokemon. (I'm not defending the Vanillite line tho. That line actually sucks)

This was very well narrated. Good balance between personal reasons, overall atmosphere, and the gameplay itself. Also with a really solid amount of energy, and a feeling of stakes when/where appropriate, it's very easy to get that wrong.
It's very rare that a game makes the final boss the best in the game, let alone the damn franchise. Very few games succeed at that, and literally everything lines up perfectly, my favorite element being Bowser VS Dark Bowser. The music is epic, yes, but I will always be a sucker for "the final boss is a dark version of you". Bowser wins that fight not because of his pure power, but because of his heart and persistence - the two things that his minions follow him into battle for and carry him out almost without question (which this game explores and breaks down multiple times and is at the heart of his most powerful attacks). It's the perfect finale for a game exploring the depths of potentially the most iconic gaming villain of all time.

Most of the games I've played have had some lackluster final bosses compared to the rest of the cast, and M&L are arguably master classes at power scaling and progression, even if the combat systems can easily be abused. Your mileage may vary by personal play experiences.

When i was young i almost never succed inhale anything with Bowser, so this was a problem for dark Fawful, but with magikoopa (this feels weird for me, like in Japan, in France we use Kamek as both the race and the individual one) his jetpack finally get his arse kicked.
German version was even worse with that! We have the main Kamek, the other Kameks that are called magikoopas and Kameks and the red robe wearing guys with propellers on their head from Yoshis Island that are also called magikoopa!

I finished the Nintendo 3ds version yesterday, and some bosses work mechanics a little differently, some seem to take a lot more damage, or have less life😅
1. I gave up on that eating the giga carrot because I didn’t read the dialogue so I missed the part where he was talking about the super-digestive enzyme 2. in the 3DS version Fawful and, vacuum helmet, attack is where the helmet grabs the ceiling and Fawful swings to bowser changes to Fawful, and the vacuum helmet ramming Bowser and the one where he eats Luigi and moves side to side he just spins around Mario in the 3DS version 3. The Dark Star core changes his attack from the little umbrella, spike thing shooting at you to the 3DS version the little dark bubbles going around Mario and Luigi, which are really hard to dodge.
gen 5 has so many glazers, really reminds you how whatever pokemon game 16 year olds played first is considered the internets favourite and cannot be criticised

some very interesting facts about Dark Star in the original BIS is that, during a Nerve mode(ie no items, no equipment/badges, stache only on level up, no special attacks, Jump/Hammer/Punch/Fire breath only.) low-level run where you only level up stache, and force +1 level only per area arc+always have challenge medal on, I've found some neat things about some of the bosses: 1. Dark Star will always rise up again after 1 turn in its vulnerable state, and that is completely assuming Mario and Luigi never level speed at all and have no gear except challenge medal on, and are very specifically, under level 35. 2. the 4 color orb attack Dark Star does, specifically if it decides to go "Top to Bottom" and is "4 orbs of the same color", is actually almost completely impossible to avoid. I've found this is because the 3rd and 4th orbs are too close to the screen. the 4th gets batted down too fast after the 3rd orb, so you're effectively frame-trapped when jumping the 3rd and will always get hit even if you do jump, the 4th always lands "Right" in the bros's hitbox. from what I understood about this attack, when its top to bottom+4 same color orbs, you have to jump perfectly by the 2nd orb or die. the reason why the 3rd orb traps you into the 4th deff has to due with how close to the screen they are. 3. at level 35 assuming no speed levels or gear, Mario out-speeds Dark Star, and that makes him get 1 extra turn against the Dark Star when its vulnerable 4. Dark Star is without a doubt the most aggressive boss in the entire BIS game, yet its also simple enough to understand. legit the 4 same color orb attack is the most problematic attack it has. cuz its the only truly near-unavoidable attack in the game, and only if it goes Top to bottom. if it goes Bottom to Top then you're fine- 5. the most notorious thing is Dark Star can heal over 120 hp from the Dark Satellmites starting from the 2nd/3rd time it gets up from vulnerable state its at this point you're required to use the not-upgraded Excellent!+POW badge to win not only this fight, but the Dark Fawful and Dark Bowser+Dark Star Core fights too. Junker is very interesting w/these Nerve mode rules because he will make the game a literal Mario Solo. normally you'd free Luigi but with such a low-level(level 19 is the max level at Junker with +1 level per area arc rule.) its pointless to free him. on the bright side it 1 less button to worry about, Junker actually saves the run cuz he keeps Luigi safe in the Trash Can. 🤔 Junker's only problem attack is the trash dump, you just haveta "wait 1 second" and react to what comes out. Blizzard Midbus's hide "Bomb in Snow trick" becomes a lot easier when you "Remember the snowball's design." if you do that then you'll hit the bomb every-time, but without knowing this, that's the only tricky part. Dark Fawful's a massive hp sponge in challenge medal w/nerve mode rules, a bit over 4k hp(total w/both enemies) with 5 turns of waiting til you can suck the Vacuum helmet. and you only have 1 drag attack of leeway before Mario/Weegee get koed. Dark Fawful's simple on paper but its when he switches up his Star Ray attack, esp to the point you have to memorize where the Pink Star is, is where I find he becomes very tricky. esp when he uses the Formation that covers the entire space+may or may not have an Intentional Gap, where you have to let go of Y early to have bowser punch the star, or get hit and die. Dark Bowser's.. basically an over 450khp wall within this ruleset(1500 hp revive w/challenge medal). the fact the final boss is legit significantly easier than Junker Mario Solo, Dark Star, or Dark Fawful, really says somethin fr I can deff confirm BIS deff wasn't meant to be played with no items, no equips(cept Excellent+POW badge, required for the last 3 fights in the game) and no special attacks. Dark Star's deff easy with gear and specials+items, but its when you take away everything that makes it easy, you realize exactly how threatening it actually is. its most deff the hardest and aggressive boss in BIS within these Nerve Mode rules. its only 1 problematic near-unavoidable attack in Dark Star w/the color orb attack. despite this, I'm very happy to confirm its actually completely possible to win and beat the game like this. I made it to Dark Bowser under these rules and adjusted when I saw the impossible scenarios via Dark Star needing the bros to be level 35+Excellent+POW Badge being required 🤲

Also i don't think we should count the tutorial bosses in the same list as regular bosses, they're just here to teach some mechanics so ofc they suck and look pale in comparison. Partners in time is my second least favorite Mario and Luigi game (as of rn, I’m replaying the game before brothership comes out) and I loved the Shroobs boss in bowser’s inside story, since bowsers inside story was my first in the series I played I thought they were really cool. I hope they return one day.

Nowadays I don't have as much trouble but as a kid, breaking that barrier and seeing the boss glow to signal I'd won was such a great feeling
I really don’t like the durmite fight. The insane amount of health and healing make it take wayyyy too long. Also, since it’s early in the game, you don’t even have a good variety of Bros attacks to keep things fresh.
Fun fact: during my first playthrough, I didn't get the fire flower, and I didn't know where the last attack Peice was until after I beat durmite, resulting in the longest durmite fight in my plethora of playthroughs.
I disagree, all the attacks in all of the bosses are really cool and fun, I dont mind having long bosses with those cool attacks, but I agree about Kretin, as Kretin is one of my least favorites...

Uh, in the vast the majority of JRPGs I've played the final boss is the best boss in the game. Including all the Mario and Luigi's and Paper Mario's.

I absolutely hate Kretin. I would rank him lower than the tutorial bosses even. I never had any fun during that fight at all.
HATED THE JUNIKER BOSSFIGHT
I really don’t like the durmite fight. The insane amount of health and healing make it take wayyyy too long. Also, since it’s early in the game, you don’t even have a good variety of Bros attacks to keep things fresh.
That's what made the fight funnier to me instead. I know it's just me but the linger the battle the most fun I have
That’s why I grinded the bros to believe it or not level 12 when I played this game again and then fight it so I can kill it in 2-3 turns
Fun fact: during my first playthrough, I didn't get the fire flower, and I didn't know where the last attack Peice was until after I beat durmite, resulting in the longest durmite fight in my plethora of playthroughs.
final boss is much lower on my list because i couldn't beat him without finding the star attack first and i couldn't find it
Worst boss for me was the clone Mario and clone Luigi it feels so boring
I loved the fight, it was one of the few challenging bosses.

few attacks bad pacing long boss boring attacks KRETIN tho putting junker under kretin is crazy junker is a bit higher for me
I disagree, all the attacks in all of the bosses are really cool and fun, I dont mind having long bosses with those cool attacks, but I agree about Kretin, as Kretin is one of my least favorites...
