As I progressed through X I began to see an interesting relationship between my character and Lao. They appeared as foils to each other, two sides of a coin. One haunted by a past unable to see a future while the other had no past and could only live for the future. Occasionally agreeing but sometimes disagreeing. The final battle felt rather cinematic as it gradual came down to a one on one dual each with next to no health before the final mercy blow was delivered via the large handheld energy cannon of my characters mech.
I was under leveled the first time, so I restarted because I wanted to enjoy the game where I wasn't underleveled for every boss. Unfortunately this made me overleveled by 6, and if that wasn't enough, I learned how to use overdrive... the Skell was a handicap, I didn't even get to hear the song that well. I mean... Luxarr? I was fine with clapping him, and it was harder fighting the chimera in the skell because i used the multi attack long sword which makes fighting groups of enemies surprisingly easy if you can't get hit, and if the auto is drawn to someone else easily. But Lao... I wanted an actual fight, and I knew I wasn't gonna get to enjoy that because beung overleveled is ridiculously strong surprisingly. But... I haven't checked, but there's still the time attack boss simulators, right?
Eh, I was too busy being amused at the fact that Lao spent the entire game blaming humanity for the death of his wife and child instead of Luxaar. Then at the last minute he does in fact blame Luxaar for that. It's especially funny when talking with Lao stans about it.
@@maramba32 Um, no it isn't. It wasn't humanity's fault a bunch of psychopaths decided to blow up Earth because the Samaar couldn't keep their contingency plans safe. They even had a spot on the ship, they were just killed in the chaos of the invasion before they were able to board, so this isn't even a case of the rich people Lao kept whining about taking a space from his family, it was just _bad luck._
@zephyr8072 The ruling class lied to Lao, who signed up for Project Exodus because he thought he could save his family. He only cared about protecting his wife and child, and if that meant dying with them on the Earth he was totally okay with that. But lying to people like Lao, all in the name of saving the rich and well-connected, is morally reprehensible. The people who survived were politicians and billionaires, not people like us. The only reason anyone else got on board is so their skill sets could be utilized. Lao just wants to die, to be reunited with his family, and aligning himself with the Ganglion was the only way he knew how to do that. He knew that if he committed suicide, then they would just bring him back anyway. And even though the Lifehold database was destroyed on impact, Lao came back anyway, which implies that something is keeping him alive against his will. His reward for his sacrifices to help humanity and ultimately defeat the Ganglion is to suffer eternally with the guilt of not being able to save his family or be with them in their final moments.
With how much you can freely do in that whole world, that's enough for that game. I do hope for a sequel with more story on the plate as much as the exploring and gameplay was.
