  • The Springfield Armory Garrison 1911 4.25" Model in 45 ACP is a no frills handgun with just the right upgrades to make it a great self defense pistol. The original 5" model Garrison 1911 is a 5" barrel model with the same features. Thanks to @SpringfieldArmoryInc for sending the Garrison 1911 4.25 model for this review.

    Always a big fan of all metal, with perhaps some wood, guns. AKs, 1911s, and revolvers always get my heart beating a little faster. I like polymer, too, but they're like basic utility vehicles compared to classic muscle cars.

    Oh, the sweet, sweet sound and feel of a .45 acp. I've got my Government Garrison 2 years ago and now almost 10k rounds through. Only hiccup was some underpowered loads from Reman ammo. I'm sure this commander size will perform as well. Great vid!

    The 45 ACP punch combined with the shorter barrel length makes it a formidable option for concealed carry or home defense.

    • @DBONE117
      @DBONE117 2 месяца назад +2

      It's ironic you mention that because the shorter barrel length actually reduces the punch of the 45 ACP round quite a bit per inch you reduce it by. That's why John Browning specifically chose the 5 inch barrel and I believe he was never consulted with the commander model. I don't think that was something he would have gone for.
      They are fine weapons but 45 ACP already has enough trouble expanding because of its slow velocity when you start going beneath a 5 inch barrel length you best just carry full metal jacket ammunition. 230 grain heavy rounds especially standard pressure don't really expand. Fortunately they have a half inch diameter regardless but then over penetration becomes an issue. I hate to say it but 9 mm round technology has eclipsed the 45 and this is coming from a guy who only carried a 45 for many years.
      That being said I don't want to be the old timers I would see when I was a young man who refused to adapt and died with the rolling tied. I will swim with it instead. So thusly 9 mm is the future if you want a 45 you're really should keep the barrel at 5 in or go with a different caliber imo

    I bought this pistol as a birthday gift to myself partly based on this review. I was considering the EMP Ronin 9mm for a long time but didn't like the idea that the frame is aluminum alloy. I am eating at an Amish-style restaurant with Mennonite ownership today with my pastor as a birthday meal. Why? It is pie (pi) day and they are excellent with pies. Great video.

    My very first gun-and always my favorite-is my Stainless Colt Combat Commander I bought while I was still in the Army in the late 80s. I think I’m gonna grab a Stainless one to bookend my collection. I have a half dozen Springfield .45s already, all the XD models, a Garrison, the bare bone’s government model they brought out (WW2 model), and another full sized one. I might as well grab one, since that original Combat Commander has been my favorite since time began. I’m sure this Springfield will cost about three times more than that Colt did back in the 80s, but I know what I’ll be getting, and know it’ll shoot great.

    Good to see that Springfield is offering a Hollywood pistol that requires no reloading from the opening ha ha. I love a 1911, one of the great design of John Browning. I still haven’t picked up a pair of Colt Officers models that been a long term goals I wouldn’t consider an aluminum frame but a nice stainless steel pair would be great. Maybe for my birthday 2024.

    I'm sure lots of people consider recoil management and muzzle flip a lot . As you mentioned the 9 mm is the hot choice nowadays. And people are putting compensators and lightened\lightning cut slides on their 9mm pistols. And changing out recoil springs. All to lessen recoil on a 9 mm.
    If they would just try an all steel frame\slide pistol like a 1911\2011 they'd be amazed at the way they don't muzzle flip compared to polymer framed pistols.
    Springfield offers lots of 1911s in .45 acp & 9mm. Their choices are
    FS = full size, 5" barrel, 8 rounds
    MS = medium size, 4.2" -4.3" barrel model dependent, 7\8 rounds
    CS = compact size, 3.3" - 3.5" barrel, 7 rounds.
    BBR = small as hell, 3.10" barrel double stack 10+1 rounds.
    And they have double stack 1911s in both .45 acp and 9 mm. 14+1 rounds in .45 acp, 20+1 rounds in 9 mm.
    They have aluminum and steel framed MS\medium sized offerings.

    I have a Colt Commander tuned up at Terry Tussey's Shop in Carson City, Nevada. Sweet shooting piece. Also have a Les Baer Concept VII (Commander) that is so nice. Commander size 1911s is pretty much the perfect size personal defense handgun. Even Jeff Cooper praised the feel and size of the commander. Put a commander size in your hand wiggle and wave it around a bit---after double checking it to ensure it is empty. Then do the same with a full size government 1911. The government size feels just a bit too big and the Commander feels just right. My commander sized 1911s are the better size for CCW over the full size.
    When Springfield use super thin grips, they have to use super thin grip bushings. So they won't fit swapping new grips on them as all over grips use regular size bushings. So you have to buy regular size grip bushings, remove the factory super thin bushings, screw in the regular bushings, now you can install new G10s, Pachmayrs, Hogues, etc.

  • @jwright1776
    @jwright1776 19 дней назад

    Both this commander and the government have their purposes. This is the ideal concealed carry 1911 in my opinion, while the government is best suited for a home defense sidearm. All I’d do to these garrison models are some hogue walnut grips, trijicon night sights, and arched mainspring housings. For some reason the a1 has always been natural to shoot for me along with revolvers, but I did wish they had the long trigger. I blame it on xl glove size hands with decently big palms and long fingers.

    Springfield Armory has priced their 1911s too high for 2024. They were a good bargain. But after most guntubers started getting SA 1911s sent to them to review on their channels and gave glowing reviews Springfield Armory jacked their prices up anywhere from $100 to $250 depending on model. Their laser engraving of their new logo back on each side of slide, near the safety and stopped putting SPRINGFIELD ARMORY GARRISON (or whatever model name) gigantic across the entire side of the slide being the only big improvement. I'm not a fanf how SA changed and went away from the standard guide rods and barrel sleeves. Screw in guide rod, or guide rod with a pinhole and loose barrel sleeve. So depending on which Springfield Armory 1911 model you buy your guide rod and barrel design are gonna vary. I prefer the true 1911 guide rod assemblies. Full length or partial, it's preference. But true 1911 design.
    You can't be a 1911 snob if you rock a Phillipine made 1911. The value is nearly gone now in a Springfield Armory 1911. Once you get to $599 and above there are LOTS of excellent, i mean excellent, firearms from the best manufacturers available. Maybe not a 1911, but better than a 1911.

    Sootch do you find it just as easy to conceal a 2011 than a 1911? Every now and then in the reviews I’d like to hear about what you thought as far as comfort carrying it. Love the show!

    • @joeyassyrian
      @joeyassyrian 2 месяца назад

      Generally speaking if you wear a shirt like a flannel, a 1911 should be easier to conceal with the proper belt (Hanks for leather, Kore for synethic, etc.) because something like an AIWB holster with a wing will push the grip closer into your body. Due to its thinness it makes it easier to conceal as well versus double stacks. If you cannot AIWB because of weight or some other issue, then it's probably not a good idea to conceal a 1911 with a full sized grip. It most likely will print 3-4 o clock. 2011s have similar slides/control width depending on the brand but generally speaking the thicker grips will print more, especially if all you wear is a t-shirt.

    Why does 40 seem like an ideal caliber for this platform? From dum dum to Critical Defense and Sig V Crown, ammo tech has improved.

    The US military is still issuing 1911's. I got corrected on this the other day and had to look it up. MP's are still issued them in some units and special forces, delta force, etc still use 1911's.

    Can you do a review on the smith and Wesson M&P Sport II AR-15 style rifle? I personally think it’s a great firearm.

    What happens if you leave the hammer down and engage the safety? Does it engage?

    I agree this is the best bang for the buck I can see. 5" for me, thinking of a stainless but this blue could be too nice to pass up.
